Ah, summer. It was a time when young men would be going out shirtless to woo women, when young ladies would be worrying about their weight and hoping they looked dropped dead stunning in their bikinis on the beach, and a time for the world to make faces in disgust (and possibly lose their lunch) at the sight of the numerous overweight people trying to fit into bathing suits that were clearly meant for someone much slimmer than themselves….but, no matter what time it was, there was one peculiar soul that escewed the chains of conformity and marched to the beat of her own frenzied and asychronous drummer. Naturally slender with a pleasing face and long, straight black hair, it was be puzzling for many why someone with looks such as this particular woman didn’t go into a career of modelling or some other industry where could exploit her natual beauty for monetary gain. She wore large, black framed glasses that, quite easily, could have been replaced with contacts or corrected with a little bit of surgery or magical know-how, so why didn’t she do so? In truth, no one could answer those questions but her, and the woman was so often enthralled in her studies of the world around her that it was highly likely that none of those questions would ever be answered.
For once, however, Gracie did not have her head buried in one of her countless notebooks and journals to write down her observations and notes from study; in fact, she did not even have her head in a book at all as she stood at what she presumed to be the entrance to the guild hall of Lamia Scale. There was an obvious look of unease on her face, presumably because of all the allusions to snakes in the artwork and engraving she noticed in the trim of the marble building….but, that was just a normal reaction, right? Surely anyone with a morbid fear of slithering serpents would be a tad bit uncomfortable knowing they were going to be joining a guild that had an affinity for them...or was that just her? Thus far, it was commendable for her not to have an anxiety attack due to all the snake memorabilia, but it was questionable as to how long that would last. Truly, the only reason she had come here was because she had heard the guild in question had a reputation for pursuing knowledge; being the shut-in-and-study type she was, it seemed like a perfect fit, other than the whole snake thing… She clutched the strap of her satchel a bit tighter as she knocked on the door, but tried to remain calm despite the unease she felt in her stomach.
