To Earthland and Beyond

John had come to Hargeon Town after training some recruits in Era and helping out some kid in Magnolia. There was a reason for his visit to the port town. Passports were being issued here. Work had been somewhat scarce in Fiore, so John decided it was time to broaden his horizons, legally at first. He preferred to do things the legal way if he could without too much trouble. It lead to fewer troubles down the line than going dark did, though going dark generally paid better. Still, despite this, the current illegal jobs he felt confident doing with his rather limited ware didn't offer a great enough reward over the legal ones. As such, he felt he was better off keeping himself clean at the moment. Staying in one place for too long would be bad for him, and as such, he had no desire to go to prison for illegal activities. So, in his effort to keep his nose clean, John was now standing in quite a long line to get his passport. He was in the back of it, of course, seemingly the last person in the whole town to arrive to get a passport today.

He let out a groan of annoyance, not wanting to have to stand around for hours on end while he waited for his passport. Well... he was outside, so he figured he could at least have a smoke to distract him. He reached into his pocket to pull out a cigar before someone nudged his shoulder. He looked up at a rather annoyed-looking man. He wore some sort of uniform, it wasn't a Rune Knight, just some security guy of some sort to keep the line in order. The man pointed to a "No Smoking" sign nearby. John sighed, disappointed, as he put his cigar back into his pocket. The line moved forward... slowly at best. No one came up behind him though. He truly was the last man in Hargeon today in need of a passport. But he didn't want to wait.

John looked around, bored out of his mind and unable to smoke. It was then that he spotted it. Hope! A nest of hornets hanging from one of the buildings near the line. A sly grin erupted on his face for a moment before he walked out of the line, striding off like he had somewhere better to be. The second he was out of sight of everyone else, he drew a pistol. He navigated the back alleys near the building where they were giving out passports, eventually finding a spot where he could get a clear view of the nest. He pulled out a silencer and attached it to the barrel of his pistol before taking aim at the nest. He slowed his breathing, leaving a longer natural pause between breaths. During one of these pauses, he fired. The muffled shot was not heard beyond the alley as the bullet flew into the nest, knocking it down from where it was hung. From it, the swarm of hornets emerged, angered and ready to sting anything that was nearby. The crowd heard them and all turned to look for a moment in horror before running off, screaming and panicking. John waited a few minutes before making his loop back around to the office. The crowd was gone, and the hornets had calmed down by the time he had gotten back to the office. With the only line consisting of the small amount of people who were in the office when he shot the nest, John only had to wait a few more minutes to get his passport, as opposed to several hours. Hornets certainly do have their uses.
