Taking note of Lucifer's warning, El wasted no time on summoning Lyra. Having some extra help would do him no harm. Lyra appeared a bit annoyed to have been summoned out of the blue, but didn't fuss about it. El briefed her through the situation.
Jackal had just barely finished explaining the situation to his childhood friend, when the first enemies appeared. From where he was standing he could see what appeared to be ten devilish tomatoes and around fifteen equally demonic corns. Correction, gigantic, devilish tomatoes and oversised, demonic corns.
El was, really, annoyed with the situation. His first job was what would shape his future, or so he thought. But with this kind of first job he might just forget he ever even applied for it. It would spare him the humiliation of fighting against plants. They may have been oversized, demonic, kinda strong plant but still they were plants. Tomatoes, corns and who knows what next? Maybe some cucumbers or broccoli? Anyways, it was his first job and no matter what Jackal had to complete it in the most badass way a mage could think of. No. Matter. The. Cost.
And he could do that. His arsenal was vast enough for him to fight the plants on multiple fronts, without getting harmed and also without even wasting half of his mana...hopefully. That would be close to his definition of a badass fight against vegetables. Wasting one more second to curse his luck, El gritted his teeth. So hard that blood almost came out of his gums. In the span of less than three seconds, El came up with a plan that thought would sufice. Thought would earn him his victory against these evil vegetables. Well, tomatoes are fruits but who cares?
With a wave of his hand, a sword with silver blade and black hilt appeared in his right hand. Not just any sword. It was Lepida, the spirit weapon of Lucifer. Being able to wield it was only one of the benefits of having synchronized his soul with an aroggant, cocky and clingy ex-demon like him. Though the price to that was kinda obvious.
El didn't use this spell of his very often, but this was an exception. One of the few times he and Lucy had the same mindset. Thus he knew that the Lightbringer, Son of Dawn, Lucifer would not try to take full control of his body this time. That's why he decided it was ok to go all out.
"Lightbringer!"
Jackal's eyes flashed azure blue for a fraction of a second before his right eye was covered in bluish green flames, the color of Lucifer's flames. His hair grew till it reached his waist and his clothes' appearance changed to that of a samurai's armor. Thinking that this was not going to cut it, El decided to go one step further and merge more of Lucifer's soul with his own.
Instantly an aura, bluish green in color, surrounded him, his left also started to emit identically colored flames and his teeth became sharper. Currently he was using all he had. He had merged his aura, eyes and body with Lucifer's aura, eyes and body. This was as far as he could go without losing control.
Taking a glance at Lyra, El decided to shar his plan with her. "I am going to handle ten of the corns. You handle those tomatoes and if you can the remaining corns. If you aren't able to do it then I will assist you.
"You really think I can't handle them? Pfft. They are as easy as making salad. Anyways. I am going to give you a little boost. You may need it.
Lyra winked at her childhood friend before chanting one of her spells:
"Shadows come and bless the one who is covered by your light. Harmonize: Amplify!"
A purple-black light covered El for a moment, granting him an increase in strength and speed. After that she drew her sword, Gehandes, a sword she has been using since a little girl. Way before she met El and was saved by him. Lyra lunged forward, towards the devilish tomatoes. Her sword was now engulfed in blackish-purple light and was 10 meters long and also quite flexible. In this state she could wield her sword both as a blade and a whip. While her movement is slowed down a bit by this, it still gives her a great advantage.
She swang Gehands like a madman, so fast you could just barely see the blade itself. Instead all you saw was just a purple blur, moving around hiting tomatoes. She had to be careful, as the tomatoes were also attacking her. They were capable of shooting ketchup from their mouths. These powerful, red colored, tasty streams were quite more formidable than they appeared. So instead of only attacking, Lyra had to also dodge and defend.
However she had a plan of her own. Divide and conquer is what they say. So she decided to split the tomatoes into groups. Two groups of five. Having split the tomatoes into groups she started forcusing on the first five, the others being too far to currently harm her. She fiercly swang Gehandes, striking all five of them with every swing. One swing. *Guh* Two swings. *Haah* Three swings. She could tell that the tomatoes were more than half dead already. However swinging Gehandes like that wasn't the easiest thing to do. For a momment she had to slow down and catch her breath.
That was her worst mistake ever. The other five tomatoes had closed up on her. And while three of them were too teriffied to do anything the other two started attacking her with ketchup streams. From the left and the right. Finding it too hard to dodge both, Lyra decided to take the impact of one of them. She flew back a couple of meters, almost droping Gehandes from her hand during her flight. Wasting no time and wanting to get revenge she stood up on her feet again. Her eyes on the devilish tomatoes.
"Ohhh...now you did it. Prepare your anus you shitty tomato."
A few meters away, El was struggling with the corns. He had already dealt some minor damage to two of them and managed to kill one. Without using any spells so far. However there were still nine corn alive. And seven of them were unharmed. Tired a bit but unharmed. The plants had already dealt some damage to him, though Lucifer's body granted him some really nifty powers.
While Lyra was dealing with the first five tomatoes
Lyra had just started dealing with the tomatos. Another have of his hand and El was now holding another blade in his left hand. The name of this sword was bloody hawk. A legendary artifact that could resonate with Lucifer's soul. A truly magnificent weapon, capable of dealing great damage to El's enemies.
Sensing the corns were closing up on him, El got ready. First he wanted to see how tough they were. So when the first two corns were near his attackin range he decided to test them. He used his azure flames, one of the two kidns he could use, to bind one of them, while he used the shadow of a nearby tree to hold the other one down for a second so he had time to attack the other. All El needed to kill the corn was two slices with both of his blades. Two swings of both his hand. And not really hard swings at that. Just normal ones. Now, Jackal was grinning about that fact. His opponents were weak and could be taken downs with two swings. Considerig there were nine corns left for him, he should be able to take them down in a minute or two. What he did not think about though was the other corn escaping the shadow's hold. Never in his wildest dreams did he think that possible. Never. The other corn had freed itself and started shooting corn seed at El. Each seed alone did not do very much damage. But all of them together formed a formidable to face attack. However, El still had some aces in his sleeve. Taking the knockback of the corn's attack, El proceeded to hold one of his swords, Bloody Hawk, with a hand made from azure flames. That way he sliced one of the other corns that was still further away.
After El damaged the corns and Lyra got fired up
El was now facing nine corns. Out of which two were slightly harmed. He was firmly confident of his ability to lower his enemy's numbers though. El swang Lepida and three blueish green fireballs, each the size of a head shot out of it. Each one targeting a different corn. The first two hit the already harmed ones. Almost killing them. The third one hit a random corn, that started attacking El with corn seeds. Managing to dodge them El was now wielding both Bloody Hawk and Lepida with hands made from azure flames. Swinging them in a circular pattern, El deadl the finishing blow to the last two corns.
"Three down. Seven to go." stated El with a grin on his face.
Meanwhile Lyra had managed to kill of five of the tomatoes. But was really struggling with the other five. Not only that but five of the corns had noticed her and were now heading her way. Knowing that the tomatoes were close do death. She sighed and used her hidden ace. She fiercly smashed the five fruits (?) with Gehandes, dealing severe damage to everyone of them. Four died, but one barely survived. However it was almost dead, laying on the ground struggling to stay alive. With a thrust of her sword this one tomato died as well. The corns however where now in firing distance and thus started bombarding Lyra with their Corn Corn Cannon.
Facing off against seven corns, El knew that things would be tough. He had already received some damage and thus needed to be extra careful. Three Corn Corn Cannons were shot at El. Jackal, dodging all three of them moved closer to one of the three corns that attacked him. Since the corns were all in different direction it was impossible for him to attack all of them with this kind of move. Instead he focused on one target at a time. As he got close to corn #4 (#1-3 being the ones he killed before) he took Bloody Hawk in his right hand. With a swift move, that looked like a quickdraw manuver, an aura wave shot out from the blade. The corn, being hit by both the wave and the blade, persihed. Leaving only some pop corn on the ground.
"Six more."
Eyeing the remaining six corns El thought it was about time he got serious. He used the shadows of some nearby plant, normal plants, to bring all of the corns in one place. Jumping towards them, El used one of his unique sword techniques. A move he developed on his own while training to master the sword. Grand Swan. While by itself, this move was ferocious and quite deadly when merged with Lucifer Jackal was able to almost double its lethality. A truly all-out move. El grabed Bloody Hawk with both his hands, swinging it like a madman gone berserk. Enemies notirectly hit by the blade also received damage. If you were ten meters or less away from El when he used Grand Swan then you would pretty much be totally screwed. Having nearby shadows force the corns into a close formation was a really brilliant move on Jackal's behalf. This way the corns received not only the strike from his blade but also the extra damage from the blade's savage swings. In an instant all six corns were deader than dead.
"Phewww. That was some workout. It really was hard. I am almost out of spells. Now, let's see how Lyra is doing."
Lyra, having to face off against five corns herself, was now pretty much against a wall. She had used her trump card already and would not be able to use it for a while. She could try going berserk and start swinging Gehandes like there was no tomorrow but that would damage the nearby crops. And any damages would be reduced from their payment. Thus, she tried playing in defense.
El, having noticed Lyra's situation went to help. His azure flame hand disappeared and he was now holding Bloody Hawk in his right hand and Lepida in his left. El started rotating the two swords in his hands like they were the blades of a windmill. Swiftly passing through the corns attacking Lyra, he managed to slay two of them in the process. Three corns remained. But with El and Lyra preying on them they would not make it out alive.
They glanced at each other. Their bond was so close they could communicate with glances. Like twins, but not blood related...or related at all. Using his azure flames, El threw Lyra in the air, making her reach a height of five meters. From there she started violently swinging Gehandes. Not only to attack the corns but also to stay airborne. The momment Lyra started attacking the corns, El started attacking them with blueish green flames. The corns being covered by flames and attacked from above could do nothing to oppose their attackers. In less than half a minute the last three corns had also died.
Having killed every enemy they could find, Lyra and El dropped their defenses. The duo found no need to be alert anymore, since every plant had been taken care of. Truth to be told...they did not find it an easy feat to accomplish. El had used almost every spell in his arsenal and Lyra had gone all out. In the end though, they managed to defeat their enemies. All tewnty five of them. Even though they were but mere plants, they actually proved to be quite the problem. If it hadn't been for the regenerative abilities El gained from merging with Lucy, then he would have sustained a good amount of damage.
They looked around to see if they had damaged the village's crops. A bit of damage was visible here and there but it was nothing the duo could not fix with a bit of hard work. Yes, they were exhausted but they needed the jewels...and any damages to the crops would be reduced from their reward. Jackal was really annoyed at this. Not only did the villagers want their help with the evil plants, they also wanted them not to destroy the rest of the plants. And what if these evil plants showed up again? He and Lyra would not bother coming to deal with them again. That was for sure. It was humilliating enough that this had to be Jackal's first mission...he would no way go through all of it a second time. No. Never. Nein. Nada.
Lyra had already started taking care of any damaged plants, tending to them in every way she could. Trying not to do something foolish. As for El, well he would have really liked to help. BUt you see, Lucifer seemed to have something "reaaaallyyyy important" to say to him.
The fuck is your problem Lucy?
You should try being more respectful to the guy lending you his powers kiddo.
Yeah because you totally do not want to take over my body, Mr.Power-Lending-Gentle-Demon.
Are you always that annoying brat? Anyways you should be careful there are more of the...
A sudden sound cut El's conversation with Lucifer short. Turning around, El couldn't believe in his eyes.
"Damn it! Not again!" |
