EXAM: KAYLA CROFT

Today was the day she had been waiting for. Kayla Croft had her hands clenched into fists and her eyes gleaming with confidence. She had trained for this exam since day 1 and a few months later she was finally able to qualify for it. The wind had tugged at Kayla's hair and clothing blue lightning flickering around her. She had never felt so confident going into something but Kayla felt well prepared and well trained she wasn't afraid not one bit. Today is the day where she will become a c-ranked mage. Not the highest but not the lowest at the same time. Kayla just didn't want to be D-ranked anymore they are the lowest of the low the ones that get stuck with silly jobs such as petsitting or house-cleaning and Kayla was sick of doing house-chores for anybody. She wanted too do real jobs without having some higher ranked member there with her. She wanted too feel the thrill of fighting and not sit around in a strangers house washing their dishes. Her fists had clenched harder, she will achieve this no matter what there was no way in hell Kayla was going to fail, not today at least.

So whatever Elyx was planning to throw at her, she wasn't afraid, and she knows that Elyx would never be hesitant to throw a challenge at anyone so Kayla expected this exam too be tough but Kayla believes that she will push through it. Once she had been notified with Elyx's job request she was a bit intimidated, she was alone for this one. Nothel wasn't here and Lexa sure as hell wouldn't be able to help since she wasn't even in the guild anymore. Taking a few deep breaths the brunette had managed too calm down. She needed to stay calm in this exam, no risky, reckless or stupid behavior. Since she only had 24 hours to get this difficult mission done Kayla had started off right away, checking out last sightings of this crazy phoenix, people had pointed her towards the direction of her own guild, Black rose. At first it was a rather simple start so Kayla had headed back towards the guild but could not spot any sort of bird.Although she doubted that a bird would want to settle down in one place for long. It was going to take forever just to track down this bird. Who knows where it could be flying off to. Asking around to the townspeople they all nodded when I asked them if they had seen this bird.. yet for some reason I wasn't able to spot it, it was frustrating. It had been a few hours and Kayla was still left clueless on where this bird exactly was, it's been awhile since anyone had said anything but from her information no one saw the bird flying away from their town so it should still be floating around here somewhere.. Kayla only discovered a few hints feathers and some distant bird noises. However the hints did aid Kayla a lot, the feathers were sort of a trail to where the phoenix was flying off to and from the spots she had discovered brightly colored redish orange feathers seemed to be looping around. So the black rose member had figured that the bird was just taunting her or something like that before he started shooting fireballs or something. Hiding out in a bush Kayla stayed very still for very long seeming moments before she heard the flap of the wings. Her eyes had widened it was the bird alright... but it was huge! Much bigger then any phoenix she was had ever seen. The brunette wasn't sure how exactly she was going too match up against such a beast. After all it was huge, had wings and had the ability to burn you to death. This was more like a S-Class Boss.

That was stupid to think like they would put someone as strong as a s-class mage into a d-rank exam.. she was such an idiot. She was probably too weak to fight against such a huge bird.. but Kayla slapped herself back into it. She couldn't start doubting herself that wasn't the way she did things. She had to seem confident - confident and intimidating. The brunette's eyebrow rose as she observed the phoenix from a safe distance. It only seemed to be flying around she didn't understand what Elyx meant by Corrupted.. but then it had struck her. The bird had let out a sudden screech loud enough for anyone from miles to hear it. Flapping it's wings so that it created somewhat of a tornado almost instantly destorying everything in its path. Things were starting to really get bad. Blue lightning had crackled from her fingers flowing through the air too zap the bird but it simply vanished to due the strong wind force. Kayla had swore to herself "Damn it! that was way to weak." Was this bird just overpowerful or was Kayla just weak in general? The brunette decided it might work better if she got a little closer but the strong winds from his wings were a problem. She almost fell back instantly onto her bottom but she knew she had to keep getting up. Once she was close enough she had a bolt of lightning zap at the birds legs and it let out a screech of pain before flying away balls of fire coming down so quickly towards Kayla she frooze before she could dodge them. Thankfully only one of them had hit her but only her foot. However it was still hot and hurt like fucking hell. Groaning Kayla had felt as if the inside of her foot was melting with her shoes but thankfully it was only her toenails. After that attack the bird had started too fly away higher into the skies but that was slightly better since it hadn't gone above the clouds yet. Before it could completely get away Kayla was able too hit one of its wings and it was incredibly satisfying to hear the bird screech with agony as it flew away past the human eye can see but Kayla knows it'll be back. It had too be angry after what she had done too the wing of that bird but when it comes back this time Kayla will be sure to kill it. Her foot still had felt as if it was burning and Kayla wasn't sure if she would be able to walk. Groaning she took a look at her foot and it looked like a very bad burn, her toes were black she was pretty sure that she had lost at least half of her toes to that attack but.. it could have been worse.

The street wasn't in good shape either things were melting away because of the fire that the phoenix had spitted out. Some civilians had been burned others only got some scratches and a memory of a terrifying phoenix. A doctor had approached Kayla and offered too look at her foot. Sighing Kayla nodded giving the doctor permission to do whatever he had to do. It wasn't good news Kayla did in fact lose two of her toes. She felt to tired to do much after losing some toes but she couldn't afford to waste time. Even though 24 hours seemed like a lot it was somewhat difficult too locate the phoenix since it liked too fly around in the sky and Kayla didn't have the flying abilities like it did. The brunette had fell asleep for a few hours a little longer then she actually had intended to. By the time she awoke thee was some smoke out on the street and she realized she only had about 3 more hours too kill this fire bird thing and deliver it to where ever the hell Elyx was most likely in the guild on the second floor. The road seemed to entirely in smoke as if it was a large building on fire but it was the doing of the phoenix. Kayla has too kill this bird before time runs out and injures more people, looks like going against C-ranked Bosses isn't as easy that she thought it would be, such a bummer. However by the time the road was cleared of smoke the bird was gone it was no surprise too Kayla she knew that it would probably somewhere else trying to cause fires or burn townspeople. When she had heard shouting she quickly ran over slightly running with a limp because of her missing toes she didn't feel quite balanced. Once she arrived it was there alright, clear in the sky shooting fireballs down onto people. It might have been a good thing to rest up she felt like her magical energy is better then ever. Loud thunder had echoed from the skies blue lightning crackling everywhere it wasn't safe people had to get away unless they want to get zapped. Thankfully eveyone seemed to have escaped although there was something wrong with this spell that Kayla did not realize it wouldn't against him. The lightning eventually died down and Kayla felt as if she had no energy what so ever like she wouldn't be able to lift one single finger. small crackles of lightning still had been bouncing around the air and one managed to hit the bird but didn't do much damage. Once the bird had opened it's mouth Kayla had felt like it was over, that this exam was a fail and she was going to die here. However a voice in her mind had told her otherwise, she feared dying she wont letself die like this. Although by the time she did move her arm was on fire Groaning and screaming Kayla quickly did what they taught her in school when your fire. 'You Roll' Dropping onto the ground Kayla had rolled as fast as she could to get this flame off of her. Thankfully it worked but she felt as if it was still a pretty serious burn on her arm there hopefuly she wouldn't lose that to. Very wobbly. she was able too do a different spell one that trapped a person in lightning and continued shocking them until they passed out. Lightning had wrapped around the body of the phoenix zapping the bird with very high volts in electricity. The bird had struggled against the rope of lightning trying to spit out fireballs when Kayla had gotten closer to her. Kayla at this point was no sure how much longer she would able to maintain the holding spell she felt her magical energy dripping every second she had to do this now. She grabbed a knife and very quickly stabbed it through the birds head. Kayla then had to cut off the wing because thats what Elyx's wanted the wing of the bird. Cutting it off it was still warm as if it was radiating the heat of the bird still The rest of the body of the bird had slowly gone up in flames since she had hit it with lightning it burned to a black crisp. Carrying the wing Kayla had to bring this part of the phoenix too Elyx. She was a bit nervous unsure if he would believe her or wouldn't. As Kayla had approached the guild she looked fro Elyx once she had spotted Elyx she showed him the wing although it should've been the first thing he noticed. Kayla had been covered in burn marks from the phoenix she considered the burn marks as prized battle scars because these marks would represent the first ever exam Kayla had done and she wasn't to sure if she passed it or not but one thing she knew she passed today was the ability too believe in herself in very bad situations and how to push herself forwards even if she feels like she has no strength to do so. No matter what the result is Kayla would be happy to do this exam again if it means she gets better.
