One of the many duties of a servant is to rise up hours early before their master. As such Dubhlainn played his role well with such diligence and responsibility. Should he not present these traits in his line of work, others would not deem him as a respectable fellow, regardless of the alignment. The first order of business was to travel to the vast city called Fat Monsterland, a hidden kingdom, abandoned and empty, and not set foot into since more than 2000 years. The city is located in a wasteland where water is scarce. Thus, there is a system installed that distributes ground water from several dozen meters below the surface through a magical enchantment. Furthermore, the whole town is decorated with several lacrima that ensure heat, light and gas. It is an overall well-rounded and simple city that is self-sustained through the magical time enchantment, and can exist far away from fine nature. He was to wait at the assigned location where he will escort the Guildmaster Gil of Tartarus outside and towards their destination.

While waiting for his job partner and his evaluator, he stops to think for a moment:

A King willing to evaluate an allied soldier from another nation? He must have been bored.

However little did he knew of Gil and the little he did know was from malignant information among the members of Savage Skull and Basilik Fang. He was known to be an upstart but most would say he was destined for the throne.

A King surrounded by his loyal subjects
whose arrogance colored his fame among his people
one who ruled with an iron fist, clad in gold and worshiped like a God
and would only open his mind to a new idea
when and only when the latter only bores him.

What did the King wish to see in Dubhlainn? Surely Janneline isn’t the only reason for that if that was the only reason, he would have declined. There must be a catch and perhaps more to this?

    Job Description :

I AM NOT A BAD KING

even though i do bad things

    VERY BAD THINGS

    such horrible things

Rarely did Gil Vessalius interact with others outside of his guild, even those within his guild seldom saw him. He had good reason to keep his distance with his guild members, with the exception of a few whom he could place his trust in. Those outside of his guild he rarely came in contact with for good reason, it would be idiotic if he were to prance about when he had gone through so much effort to make it appear as if Tartarus, a shadow upon the land, was dead. His plans required secrecy, and the apparent erasure of Tartarus. Try as he might though, Gil couldn't completely erase Tartarus. As far as the public, council, and legal guilds were concerned the guild was as good as dead. Those that called themselves dark mages were the few that knew of Tartarus' existence, but their knowledge was heavily limited, and made of nothing more than rumors.

Dark mages that bore no allegiance to Tartarus, Savage Skull, or Basilisk Fang were put down by Gil, those that of course knew of Tartarus. Mages that knew of Tartarus and bore allegiance to Savage Skull, and Basilisk Fang proved to be a problem. They were allied and therefore untouchable, but that didn't mean that he couldn't influence them some. That and he himself could see if they were truly worthy of knowing of Tartarus, and of keeping its existence a secret. Basilisk Fang was more or less an enigma to the man but Savage Skull on the other hand? He was acquainted with their guild master, and that was putting their relation lightly. Close enough that he, himself decided to personally investigate their members, deeming their worth. That and he simply could not allow to have Janneline associate herself, with complete scum. Savage Skull was filled with "savages" as Gil referred to them, but he wanted to be sure that only the highest quality savages knew of his guild. This view of every Savage Skull member, save for one particularly beautiful guild master, is exactly what made Gil keep the man outside of his kingdom waiting for sometime before making his appearance.

He was a golden image in the otherwise alabaster kingdom, the kingdom may have appeared desolate but a collection of mages did in fact call it home. Though those mages were nowhere to be seen, each on their own mission of sorts, and their guild master was no exception. Emerging from the castle gates the man cast his red gaze upon the "savage" before him, evaluating him, sizing him up. Gil Vessalius was an exceptionally handsome man with a mess of golden hair that fell just right, a particularly regal face, toned in just the right way, and was tall enough that he never had to look up at someone including the savage before him. Standing just an inch or so taller, Gil looked down upon the man before finally, in a deep baritone he spoke,

    "I'm assuming you're the savage I requested?"

The sound of the mechanism lifting and unfolding its doors snapped Dubhlainn back to reality as he stood up straight with such formality. A private carriage is ready for them as Dubhlainn opens the carriage door for his majesty. Janneline advised to Dubhlainn beforehand that he should be treated as a King and revered as such, hence he must play the role of a knight that escorts his King to his destination.

"I am, allow me to introduce myself, I am Dubhlainn Du Lac at your service."

He drew his sword and knelt down on the ground, stabbing the sword on the ground in front of him, a sincere bow which shows and gives the utmost respect to such a fine lord as he. A moment's pause, afterwards he would stand up by the King's word or a few seconds after. He steps aside, extending his arm and bowing down slightly. It was the same carriage that Janneline used to issue back when she was one of Lord Harrigan's elites.

However a thought ran through his head only to realize the job destination. He's now getting the impression that he was here to pick him up in order to visit Janneline afterwards, Valentines day was fast approaching and he is aware of his relationship with his Guildmaster. Hence if that was the case, Dubhlainn would perform his best to follow his commands and end the mission quickly, otherwise, King Vesalius's intentions would remain a mystery.

Don't sweat it, I'm building my momentum, just as old as you are.

    Savage

Hardly described the man before him. He had introduced himself as Dubhlainn Du Lac, a knightly name for a man who was the spitting image of a knight. From build to mannerisms, Dubhlainn was what every knight out to be, or appeared to be. His knight like appearance and demeanor would be put to the test by the golden man before him. His stone face broke for a moment as a dark chuckle couldn't help but rumble in his chest, "I'm pleased. I half expected Janneline to send me some feral dog." The fact that he wasn't was truly what pleased him, though Gil still held some doubts, "You may rise." He swept his hand up, as if he himself could lift the man with nothing but a gesture of his palm, "You have yet to prove to me if you're the savage I think you are." Never one to forget introducing himself, Gil carried on without having to pause as so much for a breath,

"As you should know I am Gil Vessalius. Guild Master of a guild known as Tartarus."

His crimson orbs gleamed for a moment as he inspected Dubhlainn once more, searching for something, but for what it could not be said. At long last he let out a huff of air in what seemed to be annoyance, "Let us continue." He did not yet reveal as to why he had called the man out there, the job was the obvious answer, nor did Gil make any mention of Janneline just yet. He was hardly some lovestruck boy, giddy to talk to others about his complex relation. No, he liked to think that their partnership wasn't a completely public one, at least among their guild members. Without another word, Gil entered the carriage with practiced ease, looking every bit a King when entering it. Once seated, and the carriage having started its journey to the properly named "Spooky Forest", Gil once more addressed his temporary comrade or in this case servant,

"Tell me, if I were to command that you make a vow to me, would you? If you did vow would you listen to me or would you listen to that lovely guild master of yours?"

Dubhlainn proceeded to caress the head of his horse and whisper into its ear. “Back to the lands dear partner” Of course Dubhlainn had to seat in the carriage with the King or else it would be rude not to do so, if he took the reins, he’d be mistaken for a very improper man who refuses to confront his job partner. First impressions is everything to an encounter and avoiding him would be unethical, perhaps Dubhlainn was nervous that he had to face someone of loyalty or rather his code of honor requires him to treat nobility and rulers with such respect, for him he’s but a humble servant who answers those who needs him whether they are nobles or commoners, that is if done under the right conditions, otherwise Dubhlainn wouldn’t be a complete charity case.

To be asked about where his loyalties would lie had insulted him, unfortunately Lord Vessalius isn’t aware of that and thus given that he asked him a question, he were to speak for his reply.

“You may not find my answer satisfactory my King but while I vowed an oath to another Lord I am unable to do so as my honor dictates. I shall never betray my masters until I have aided them in completely realizing their goals. If by chance I do have to bow down to you, I would always prioritize my first master’s orders and if she commanded me to be taken under yours, I will have to obey any order you wish as long as it doesn’t involve betraying my mistress that until the mistress requests me to return to her side.”

"Ultimately her words bind me like chains."

For a moment it seemed as if Dubhlainn would not be joining Gil within the carriage. Not that it truly mattered much to the King either way. He enjoyed being alone just as much as he did good company. Truth be told he would have preferred a woman's company to the Knight's but it was out of his hands, and the knight was well mannered enough. His entertainment value had yet to be ascertained. There was a pause of sorts between his question and the knight's answer, a long enough one that Gil at first thought that the knight hadn't heard him. Yet as the knight spoke, Gil's gaze remained firmly planted on the passing scenery outside of the courage, his palm hiding the growing smirk upon his lips. It wasn't until he had finished that Gil finally managed a chuckle, allowing his smug smirk to be seen. "What a loyal dog you are." He praised evidently pleased by the knight's words, "I must ask her where I can find myself such a blindly loyal servant." He leaned back into his seat, allowing the entirety of his crimson gaze to fall upon the mage across from him. "Have no fear, I'm no idiot. I'd never have you pledge to me if I ever considered bringing harm upon your lovely guild master." He shrugged as if it was obvious, "Besides I'd hate to lose the company of such a beautiful woman." His words seemed genuine enough, "She is rather pleasurable to have around." This time he peered at the man, seeing if he'd get any sort of reaction out of the loyal dog for such a comment about his guild master. It would do his image no good if he seemed as if he was nothing more than an affectionate, doting, schoolboy towards Janneline.

To find and see someone like Dubhlainn in the Azeron Alliance? The stone faced man is a complete oddity amongst dark mages, for most of the things he had done for Savage Skull is done through legal means and having to volunteer to become the corpse collector for all three guilds isn't something an Azeron soldier would most willingly take, given they have to plan their own ambitions rather that spend time mounting the dead on a cart.

Perhaps King Gil's interest can be drawn from such oddities, Janneline was one herself before she became guildmaster. Its funny how the two became guildmasters at the same time just as when the Big three left to lands unknown, Elijah, Lyserg and Lord Harrigan have all disappeared but for what reasons? Perhaps he shall look into this matter if and when he liberates the time.

As Gil made that comment, Dubhlainn gave no answer and nodded in acknowledgement. He'd care less about anyone insulting his master unless he's been given the order. Besides, there were no insults intended and it was clear to him. "If I may speak, Golden King, I won't force an answer from you but my curiosity compels me to ask, how was your first encounter with Lady Janneline?"

He spoke monotonously, his expression was still stone, he pray this wasn't a sensitive topic but perhaps while they are traveling towards their destination he may entertain the King about his matters and to also satisfy his inquiries about Tartarus's new guildmaster.

His original question was supposed to be about the disappearance of the former heads of the Azeron alliance but perhaps that is a topic he should not bring up. Its still a long way to Spooky Forest given that Tartarus is located in a desolate place. Dubhlainn barely partners up with everyone and always performs his tasks alone but this time he was recommended or was put to the test, he must be evaluated as an Azeron soldier.

Dubhlainn's question was a surprising one but he hid that surprise well. A King must always have control over his face less he give his own emotions and thoughts away. The question itself was not a particularly prying one. Though despite it being an almost simple question it was hard to answer. Every spoken word built upon his image or would tear it down. What was spoken once could never be unspoken. "Our meeting?" He echoed, crimson gaze shifting to the passing scenery. "It was a cold night." He began, the image still burned into his head.

A woman clad in white with the beginnings of snow falling from the sky. Beautiful, so beautiful that she could not possibly have been human. Every that from those velvety lips was simultaneously I chanting and infuriating. Never before had he met a woman so much like him. Very few people were so beautiful and knew of their beauty, used their beauty in an undeniably arrogant way. Beauty and power, often seemed to go hand in hand. The woman was more than a pretty face but at the time an ace to a particular guild. So no matter how infuriating she was, Gil was bound by oath not to bring harm upon her. Perhaps that oath which at the time was an inconvenience ended up creating a more than wicked end. He had shared his bed with many women, but few ever made it past that. Yet the Savage Skull guild master was far from just any woman. Now that the two had come into positions of power, a simple might of pleasure was anything but simple. A sudden jolt of the carriage caused by a bump in the road startled Gil out of his memories.

"She was more than willing to keep my bed warm." He would not give his fellow Mage anything else but the simplified version of things. If there was any feelings besides carnal desires, Gil would not mention them. Sweet nothings were just that, nothing, lies, a waste of his breath. "Of course." He began, red gaze shifting towards his counterpart, "That doesn't mean I'm willing to share." His cat like eyes had a predatory look to them, possessiveness thick in his voice, and the unspoken threat hung heavy in the air.

"Now tell me, why is a dog like you in Savage Skull?"

He finds that a bit hard to believe that his Lady Janneline would have met him on a blind date, there must be more to it than just that or better yet its something he doesn't want to disclose to other people. Gil gave a fair response and a man must respect another's personal life if they refuse to share it, a code between men that must not be broken or else they would be considered nothing more than weasels.

He had not questioned his relationship with Janneline any further and for now he must focus on the question at hand, why did he join Savage Skull?

"I joined Savage Skull because of the former Guildmaster Lord Harrigan, naturally I would have followed Harrigan but I was requested to assist Savage Skull in anyway possible so my priorities were extended to the Guild."

That and because his magic cannot be considered that of a legal guild mage, he has accepted the use, the benefits and curse of his magic but forever he will be deemed a monster. In the old days while Dubhlainn was still a soldier he lived only to fight... but never to know what he truly was fighting for. He probably used Harrigan as an excuse for the reasons why he fights but even with that, he still feels empty, perhaps its because of the dear loss of his Captain. He'll probably elaborate if Gil wishes to know more.

Were there any more like Dubhlainn? That is something either one is uncertain off and its hard to find someone who's loyal to their masters but then again Dubhlainn's loyalty isn't pure loyalty but rather a commitment to pay his debt. It was laughable indeed but there are points for his honesty, he had made a large contribution to Savage Skull after all and if he were part of Tartarus, he'd be a great asset.
