The Nonexistent(?) Magic Council!

What's up ladies and gentlemen!? I'm Decayuss. Don't know who I am? That's unfortunate. If you don't, I'll have you know many people call me Deca, and initially I was opposed to it, asking people to call me "Decay" because I used to be a really cold and mean guy. Now I love the nickname Deca!

Now that the small and unnecessary introduction is out of the way, if you haven't read the title--or if you're a little on the slow side--allow me to elaborate on what this thread is for!



The reason why I bring this up is not just because my character is a God of Ishval that's pledged to serve them very loosely, but because I constantly see people of Legal, Dark, and Neutral affliction talking about them. And guess what? They've got no idea what they're talking about! Hahahah...ah...it's funny. All joking aside though, why do Dark Guilds oppose them? Why do people say "Screw the council" when we all quite literally have no idea who they are, what they do, etc.? Why do people want to control something that doesn't really exist?


That's what this site looks like right now. Myself included, for the most part. The way it used to be is PEOPLE registered to be the part of the Council. No one ever did, though. Oh well. And now they're NPCs. Whelp, that's pretty good. Have staff control their actions and what-not. But... how about giving them a name and face?

When I did my thread where I swore alliance to them, I kept it as VAGUE as I possibly could because I had no idea who these guys were, what they looked like, what their personalities were, ANYTHING. I had to make it up, and still be subtle. We don't necessarily have to make entire character sheets or Magic for these people (although that would be cool to see. Like Star Magic or something awesome like that), but at least give em' a name and face like I said before. And maybe a little bit of personality. At the very least this will prevent mishaps, confusion, and completely vague and unnecessary "plots" involving a force that doesn't even exist for the rest of us.

Thoughts?

We have two choices right now.
I was thinking about opening the MC back up for applicants in the future, and they would be a more plot based thing towards events and the likes when we call for them to gather.

That, if not enough people like the idea, can be changed to me making a small list of the MC people and coming up with plot n stuff on my PC for them. That way I can use them towards events and plots for the site when I need them.

Well, if those are the only two options, great! Personally I'd go with the NPC idea, but it's probably best to make an actual poll thread about this. You can do it or I can...I dunno'. Glad this actually got some attention. Thanks, broski.

I support the idea of having them as npc's that way the staff can regulate them and are much easier to use during the events. And even go so far as giving them a lot of background and as well create MC that actually fit the bill

I support this idea, Merlin's has some background working for the Magic Council before as I have previously stated to most people but quit for a reason unknown. If we can make an in-depth plot about the Magic Council, generate NPCs and such at least now I'd find a reason for Merlin to have left the magic council int he first place.

If you're looking for a NPC for the Magic Council may I suggest Dr. Paracelsus von Hohenheim .PHD. Do include him if you are all thinking about remaking the magic council.
He's from Ministrel and came to the Magic Council right after when I left.

Maybe that wouldnt be such a bad idea. Instead making them all new characters. Why not take a look around the site and see what former and forgotten characters are around. Characters that are not properly killed off. Forgotten alts that people arent using anymore. It might be a bit if effort and some extra lore need to be created around them. But i think it would be a fun thing to have for the community

I was as Siren in the process of gathering IC cause to join and petition for Chairman,  involving the previous Chairman Sparrow,  when they decided to shut down the position as Staff Only.   That stung.


Having them as NPCs is shallow, unrewarding, and not productive.

Having them as NPCs also makes sense considering how often people go inactive. It might make sense for a guildmaster to change every few months, but the magical government of a nation? Thats a bit different if they're constantly having to change due to inactivity. ALso, pretty sure the magic council are elected rather than something just handed to people so if we were going to have it PC wise i'd say that we'd need to have elections.

We'd also need to decide exactly what the magic council is and perhaps decide on their equivalent for other nations.

I would personally keep them NPCs but define those NPCs and allow staff and even players to run them if needed. I quite like the idea of former characters who have dissapeared.

Hi I'm pretty new to the site but this topic really interests me.  I think it would be really cool if we had an actual MC rather real people or NPCs for site plot and personal. It'd be nice to have a reason as to why people dislike the MC and vice versa. I also think it'd be cool to have plot relevant politics that would affect the factions. Not actual hard fact rules that must be followed but more like in RP stuff you could chose to follow with in RP consequences.

Yes, I'm on board with them being NPCs for the majority of the MC. However, I wouldn't be opposed to, at least, 3 PCs having special positions in the MC (kinda like how Wizard Saint is handled) would be interesting as well.

Well, we could bring back the outer council idea where each legal guild has a representative among the outer council and can be involved in discussions...but have the main MC be the ones who get to decide things.

That or we allow the rune knight 'leader' positions to be effectively the PC MC characters thus giving the rune knights a bit more relevance and gives something for people to strive for

I support NPC or old and retired characters who aren't being written anymore.

I was just going down memory lane and I saw this thread (Because everyone knows all my memories are of the suggestion forum). I got a little excited that this topic was getting some more light and decided to log on and give my spin. Anyway so I liked the retired character being MC idea because I think it would work wonders for continuity in a world with none. So being the old site grandpa that I am I pulled a list of a few gents and ladies from our site's lore that I think could be remade into some nice NPCs.

-Machio: Player number like 8 and one of the very first Wizard Saints. Putting this long since retired character on the council would make a nice Ancient-Days-Easter-Egg. Also he had maybe 35 posts, it isn't like we could butcher his character. Bonus points: He is really old and has Crash Magic.

-Daichi: This dude was so old I never even met him! From what I heard he was one of the very first FT GMs, and raked up a solid 500 or so posts(a lot more than Machio at least) giving him a considerable place in site history. He may have some personality issues, as I am not familiar with his character, but I'm sure one of our older members can speak better for Daichi.

-Jermin: The old Acid Titan Ex-GM and considerably famous player from when I first joined. I'd say such a well established character, bringing 2k posts to the table and an entire guild to boot. If we are looking for old and famous Jermin is about as good as it gets. Without being from Fairy Tail. I had to come up with at least one not from Fairy Tail.

-Zenshin/Aegis Bright: Speaking of not from Fairy Tail. The former guild masters of Sabertooth both make very viable options. Zenshin might be nice to balance some of the super relics like Machio, while Aegis Bright would continue that theme very well if that is what we are looking for. Also their shared Recreation magic just screams Magic Council power.

-Count Sparrow: He was good enough before, he's good enough to revive as an NPC.

-The Zuo Tree: Because every magic council needs a quasi-sentient tree. This is a joke. Please don't put a literal tree on the council.

-Alleria: I thought this but then I remembered she was evil or something. But you know if we wanted a n evil insider in the MC she may be the go to? Not gonna lie I don't remember really anything about her, but I saw her browsing through old profiles and thought "Oh hey she was a big deal at a time in the past or something!"

-Kyll Vie: Okay so maybe she left with a mic drop, but her character is now just kind of sitting around. A well established, more recent veteran member, with a great track record of being a solid legal mage being one of the first Rising Stars and an Ace of Eclipse Soul. #EclispeSoulRepresent #Ineededmorefemalesonthislist


-Skylar Somethinglastname: I couldn't find the profile so I am guessing that last name big time. She was/is(?) an Alyis alt that was a magic council member, and that's neat. Count Sparrow logic here.

Kihia Avoa: A more recent entry for our newer players. Kihia literally had to ban himself because he was too dedicated to this site. He's an Ex-Gm and Ex-WS, he's also an alleged lady killer. He's also retired most permanently, no fear of him coming back and not liking what we did with his character.

-Admin: Face it that Super Saiyan 3 Pikachu has just been begging for that council seat this whole time.

-NaLu4ever: I believe NaLu4ever is an important, strong, unique and core member of our community and should be recognized for their contributions. Their strong credentials speak for themselves and I think you will be hard pressed to find someone more qualified.

-Zeno-Senpai: Is his character still alive? I was never clear on what all exactly happened to him. But if he is alive, I can't think of any person I would rather see become an immortal part of site lore. He's just THE legend.

I like you, Kira. I like you a lot. And I like this suggestion.

I had no idea so many characters would be viable for the position, but I think it's a warm welcome to be that way. I would love more than anything for Zeno to be on the council; the man, the myth, the legend was probably one of the most inspiring people to me on the site in spite of the fact that we weren't like... best buds were anything. We were just a Guild Master and ace.

If you use someone else's IP, I would suggest getting their permission to use their characters before actually doing it.

I would sya that the rune knight leader should count as a member of the magic council for the at 'least one pc member of the MC'.

MC Honcho should be a PC to organize, designate and delegate (designate and delegate mean the same thing I know, but it sounds kinda cool).

I love the idea of the rest of the MC being former characters. Creates this sort've aspirational, revered, respected and historically famous organisation of characters that the MC should be.

Edit: I would like to add that you should probably ask their permission before the characters are used, if we're going through that at all, unless it's a definite that they aren't coming back to save confusion in the future if they should do so (could create some nasty dilemmas if they did return, didn't want to be a magic council, while their characters were intertwined with some massive plot event as one of the instigators of it's creation).

Even if they aren't coming back, it isn't an ethical thing to use someone else's intellectual property without their expressed permission. Regardless of if they are coming back or not.

Absolutely.  Regardless of if they are gone or not, a character is still a body of work.  While one can't quite sue someone for doing so, it also screws anyone's plans that may, one day, plan on returning to the site only to find their character as an NPC for the magic council.  That's similar to saying that someone who hasn't been around in a while.. their NPC was killed because... reasons!

It's safe to say.. If it isn't yours, leave it alone.  If you want to play with something that isn't yours, you must share. And sharing, requires permission.

Definitely agree that permission is needed to touch anyone's character, regardless of if it's likely for the player to return.
Every character is a mixed bag of personal plots and personalities,  even ties to characters that are still active.

Like,  there's a LOT going on behind the scenes with my characters.   I work plots and concepts,  backgrounds and histories that run deep into the past and future of the RP,  many things that may never even see the light of day. 

I imagine many characters have similar hidden ties.

Right, now that that's established. We should probably stay on topic xD.

Gaining permission for a character(s) of the long-forgotten past may be a little hard so maybe some alternatives should be thought up as a safeguard? Or since that's only a narrowed list of the possible candidates for the Magic Council (the one that Kirahunter produced), if one should not reply or decline about giving explicit permission to use their character, we could use a kind've door-to-door basis and just ask a load of people until an appropriate number of members are found but that might be a little tedious.

If you can't obtain permissions, then you can't use it. Simple as that.
While it would be nostalgic to use an old favorite to hold a position of power, if you can't get permission, then that's just a bummer isn't it?

I don't care if there are guidelines put into place, it shouldn't be a thing to happen in an RP site ever. If you want a character similar to that old character, by all means, make an NPC similar to that character. No safe-guards put in place, no "But we won't smear the character's name". Can't do any of that without the permission. If you can't get the permission, move on and make something else.

The permission bit does present a few snags. That being the easiest people to contact for permission are those most likely to return and want their character preserved. Kihia and Kyll are the two on my list least likely to return but getting a hold of either of them would be very very difficult, by very virtue of their implausible return. I personally think it would be a great way to honor this players for their past activity and I'd hope they'd be more flattered then offended if we opted to use their characters in this endeavor. This would become an essential Hall of Fame. To that end I'm in favor of just going forward and addressing any grievousness that arise as they come. Worst comes to worst we have to say, "Oh it wasn't really that character it was a spy using disguise magic!" Retcons are magical.

But if I'm alone in that sentiment I've adjusted my list to account for ease of permission obtainment.

-Zenshin: I'm still decently buddy buddy with my old Yugioh mentor. I can get a hold of him.
-Count Sparrow: Heero is still around here somewhere right? Someone can just send him a PM.
-Skylar Frost(found the last name): Last I checked Aylia was still active. This was her alt right?
-Zuo-Tree: I mean we could. We shouldn't. But we could. I know I don't want to talk to that guy.
-Zeno-Senpai: I think I heard once that Panda-Sama and Zeno-Senpai were decently close IRL. Maybe our lord and savior and site owner could reach him?

I also added a few that I forgot earlier, now factoring in convenience of contact.

-Shuhei: Everyone loves Shuhei. I haven't seen him in my brief browsing of the site, and before I left I think I may have heard him talking about retiring the old Flash God. If that's right he could be willing to put himself up on the Council.

-Legacy: Good old master of Women Slayer magic, this Ex-ST-GM would make a good council member. Also unlike some people he didn't leave in a flaming display of bridge burning, so there is probably still some ST people with his contact info.

-GalladHeru: If we can't have the Acid Titan I'd hope we can at least get the Magma Titan. However while I like to put his name forward I don't know how easy it will be to reach him for permission.

-Eclipse: As in the guy with the Triforce by his name in the cbox. The OG ice dragon slayer would also be a great 2012 easter egg. I think he still hangs around here on an alt maybe?

-Aian Kamuy: Old Eclipse Soul Ace and technical first S-Rank by exam on the site. I think this ex-admin still has an alt as well making them easy to reach. Another gem for the site's lore hounds.
