The day was bright and uplifting in the city of Era. Home of the Rune Knights and the Magic Council. Its the last place and criminal or dark mage would want to be. The Rune Knights did a great job of protecting the citizens there, and it had been a good while since the city and the magic council had been attacked by any dark guilds. Klein was walking to the rune knight training hall. The place where all of the greenest, most inexperienced people went who hoped to join the noble ranks of the knights. Klein had just taken a job directly from the head of the knights himself. Saying that they had just gotten about five hundred new recruits and they didnt have any qualified knights on staff that were there to train them. So naturally it fell to Klein, a mage that had absolutely nothing to do with the rune knights, to do their tedious work for them. Atleast it pays well, Klein figured.
Once he arrived at the training hall, Klein walked in through the front doors and was immediately greeted by the woman at the front desk.
"Hello, welcome to the Rune Knights training center. How can i help you?" "Hey yeah, i'm the mage from Sabertooth hired to train the bunch of rookies you've got here." Klein replied nonchalantly.
"Oh, right" The woman replied.
"The hall with the rookies is right over there in the next room." "Alright, thanks." Klein said as he walked off to meet the rookies. Entering the next door, he was in the hallway that was next to the door to the training hall. There was a man in official Rune Knight clothing there to greet him.
"So you're the guy here to train these greenies arent you? Well i warn you that some of them are so inexperienced that they are not even worthy of the training. I want you to start off by weeding out the weakest links out of that bunch before training the ones that show some degree of potential." "Alright i got it sir. Leave the rest to me." The Knight nodded and walked off. Presumably back to his office.
Klein entered the main hall and stood on a stage, face to face with all of the wannabe Rune Knights there. The staff wasn't joking about how many there were. There were enough people there to fill a good majority of the Domus Flau pit.
"Alright everyone." Klein began.
"Being a Rune Knight is a very special and important position. It takes strength, determination, and most of all loyalty. Don't think that anyone can just show up one day and join. Im here to make sure that the only people walking away with an official uniform are ones that truly deserve it." Everyone in the room began muttering to themselves and each other. Most likely wondering if they were actually going to make it into the knights.
"So lets begin with some physical exercises to test your endurance. Give me one hundred jumping jacks." The men began doing the jumping jacks and not long after, a few of them already began to quit. They walked out of the room and Klein struck ten people off of the list. He wondered why someone with such little determination even bothered to show up.
"Alright next lets get a little more challenging. Five hundred push ups." The men groaned and began. Klein realized that this might have been a bit overkill, but it was the only way that he could shred down these numbers and make sure that only the best made it through.
A bit later, the men finished the push ups. They were all panting heavily, and as many as three hundred quit right then and there. Klein didn't even bother striking out the names. He just crossed out four pages from the book. That left about one hundred and ninety people still standing.
"Good job men. I know that was hard but you pushed through and stuck around till the end. But theres one more test. Dont worry its not physical. I want you all to demonstrate your magic capabilities to me, as that is the most important skill you can have in the knights." Some men stood there shaking their heads at the request and walked out of the room. Klein struck out about ninety more names, leaving about a hundred. The remaining men began channeling their magic energy and casting some very rudimentary spells. Not the best, but they had potential. Some men tried their very hardest but could not even muster the smallest amount of magic energy from their bodies. It was a shame for sure, but Klein had no choice but to dismiss them. This left about fifty men remaining.
"You have all done a very good job today. You have shown that you have all the qualities it takes to be a Rune Knight. Im proud to say that you all pass the exam, and are ready for your real training." All of the men sighed in relief and began filing out of the training hall.
Klein exited the hall himself and went back to the front desk.
"Heres the list of who passed. I made sure that they were only the best." "Good job sir, Here is your reward." The lady tossed Klein a bag of jewels and he was on his way.
