Alright, first of all, no I did not lose an arm, I am perfectly fine, my apologies for the misleading topic name, but this topic is related to someone losing arms: characters.

My thought is that there should be three different character difficulties: Easy, Normal, and Hardcore. The difficulties are very different, keep reading to find out. (Note: The first sentence of each is just a joke).

Easy: Your character is just the average joe, but they cannot die, or lose limbs. Even if they lose all of their health, they'd just be knocked out, and if one arm got ripped off, it'd just magically grow back in the next thread. However, if you want your character to die, or even lose a limb, you can do that. Why have this difficulty though? Because some people want to be able to do whatever it is they want, with no risk of death whatsoever.

Normal: Your character is pretty fragile, but they can endure a punch. If your character loses all of their health they will die, but can be resurrected through the Sacred Altar. Also, in PvP matches (or even PvE) if someone RPs ripping off your character's arm, it will never grow back, ever. However, this ties into my next idea, a Magitech Body Shop (see below for more info).

Hardcore: Your character is just about as fragile as it gets, even touching them will cause them to break into pieces. If your character loses all of their health they will die, and they cannot be ressurected. Also, in PvP matches (or even PvE) if someone RPs ripping off your character's arm, it will never grow back, ever.

Now for the Magitech Body Shop. There will be five different types of items for sale, Magitech Fingers, Magitech Hands, Magitech Arms, Magitech Feet, and Magitech Legs. There will be different tiers of Magitech Prosthetics, each tier will be more expensive than the last, but will offer better buffs. See the below table for more information.

    PriceBuff
    Tier 0Free20% Stat Debuff
    Tier I5,000 J for a finger.
    10,000 J for a hand or a foot.

No? I'm sorry but this sounds unneeded to me. The difficulty settings should always be in the hands of the rper, meaning when taking a job they should decide how dangerous it could be(and really a responsibility to them too).

Also regarding this magitech shop, no? The reason again to me is that it is unneeded, I mean do we generally see here a demand for buffs on magics and abilities outside of the systems we already have? And in addition to increase stats, I though on this site we try to get away from "Stats for our characters." thing, but further more this does sound like a way to try an out-do others, more PvP based if anything.(And while PvP is nice on here, I thought PvE was more of the focus).

To finally add, this seems like a way to gain additional perks to magic that I don't think are needed, yes I have ideas for my own but I know they will come with EXP...at least I don't want the option available for people to gain an advantage in their magic just because they lose a body part and they pay in jewels.

I just wanted to clarify the stat buff thing. This would be a buff to one single stat, preferably one that is specified in the rules (such as speed). Also, I know it's not really needed, but I thought it would be a fun little gimmick to have. I know I would get my arm ripped off.

I wouldn't be a fan of difficulty levels for several reasons. One, the threat of death is pretty much useless almost anywhere. For PvE, you're in control of death and maiming since you control the NPCs, so a difficulty level wouldn't matter there. For PvP, there's already a tag that you can put in thread titles to say there's no death allowed so anyone can just use that; besides, I believe it's courtesy around here to ask for permission to kill someone's character. As for losing a limb in PvP, I doubt someone would let (I say let because you're in charge of saying whether or not your opponent hits you) their limb be cut off if they plan to just magically appear in another thread with their arm intact. They would understand the consequences. The difficulty level, as it is right now, is flexible enough that this would be something of a downgrade.

I'm not that fond of the prosthetic limb feature either. With the buffs and such, it just seems like a cheesy way to get more item slots. I've seen a couple people on this site with prosthetic limbs and they do alright without even making items. But what I don't like about it most of all (and this is more of a personal dislike than a practical complaint) is the magitech part. We can always say super advance technology is around thanks to Bosco, but it starts to break the immersion when we have a bunch of androids running around. I mean, iirc, we ditched communication lacrimas for cell phones (because of Bosco) and had SUVs at some point (probably because of Bosco).

    >Haven't read Tiger's post since I don't feel like modifying this, so excuse me if I sound like the second half of a broken record.

Plus people could just cut off their own limbs if they had the money and get magitech replacements, which could also probably be repaired and would give more abilities, with this you could get up to 16-20 abilities if I read this right? That's just... I mean you can already get like 10 via primary and secondary magic (you get a third secondary ability at H rank so that's 3 from secondary and 7 from primary), so that would mean... 30 abilities, +weapons/armors/items which increases it up to like 40 abilities, and then you can exchange magic power for passive lower ranked spells...

You see the potential problem, I mean it's kind of neat and maybe a fluff based system could be put in or something, but as or right now, it would double the abilities one could have. Think of the mods man, look at how much they would have to grade!

Even if the buff was for one aspect I still don't agree with it, and the problem is that people can abuse this system in order to gain more boosts and such. While this should not affect PvE too much, it would be vastly unfair in a PvP scenario in which the richer one gets these nice perks to out-do others, which would create resentment and gaps in the player base here(more so if they are any). A gimmick that may sound nice, but can turn to an serious issue.
(Maybe make this part of your characters story of how an ability is created in their magic from loosing an limb if your so interested?)

@joan You added more even if you did repeat some of the things I said, so no worries.

I have to agree this is highly unnecessary, and can be abused quite easily.I will brign it to the dev team attention. But no promosis

I must agree with the comments above, I feel paying for lost limbs are quite unnecessary. I mean, who would want to waste money on this, honestly. xD You don't actually pay for body parts you lost.... :T Plus, having buffs on fingers/arms/legs are rather unneeded as well.

Dig Dug, there is a reason why I Merlin exist and only by my knowledge over medical magic alone may make results permanent to a wizard.

Like what Hikachu said, it is up to us to make a decision whether we'd lose a limb or not. I admire the fact that you're trying to contribute but we find no relevance for it afterwards.

I created Merlin to play a HUGE ROLE for any physiological activity and adjustments a wizard desires and that he be involve in each and everyone of them. He may not be a strong wizard who can save everyone from calamity but his achievements are just as glorious as the deeds of the four kings of Ishugal. (Not to boast)

    Still nice try tho
