Halibel sat on the on a train heading towards Crocus with a piece of paper in her hand. She had been reading over it the whole train ride, ignoring the few people on the train that attempted to make conversation with her. It was the first job she had received that she would be doing on her own. Halibel was excited but nervous, since she didn't want to mess up her first solo mission, despite how easy the task sounded. When the train stopped, Halibel walked off with a more determined look on her face. "I'm not going to mess this up!" she thought to herself. She then made her way to the location she was requested to go to, a mansion somewhere in the city.

When Halibel arrived at the mansion, she was enticed that the elegant design of the building, and it's sheer size. She was met at the gate of the mansion by a young mage that was maybe only a few years older than her. The maid asked "Are you the escort we sent for" Halibel nodded while saying "Yes. I'm Halibel Akuma of the Infinit-" She was cut off by the maid, who now had an expression of discontent. "You're late. Follow me." Halibel nodded before following the maid into the mansion. "This is already looking bad."

Halibel trailed behind the maid trying to anticipate what the inside of the mansion would look like. When she stepped into the building, the elegant interior design of the mansion surpassed her already high expectations. Halibel was lead to a dressing room on the third floor of the house. While walking throughout the house the made ranted on about all the things Halibel would be expected to know and do while attending the ball. She would nod her had once in a while to let the maid know she was listening. "You will be the escort of Master Liam. Fair warning... He is a little... Offhand" the maid said. Halibel changed into a ball gown the maid had picked out for her. "There is a carriage outside waiting for you and Master Liam." Halibel replied "Alright. I'll try my best."

When Halibel arrived outside, she was locked eyes with her date for the evening. He was a handsome blue blood that was able to entice the young mage with one glance. Halibel's breath was taken away by his outer appearance alone. Before he could notice her gawking, she composed herself and slowly walked towards him. "Good afternoon. I am Halibel Akuma of the Infinity Hydra guild. I shall be accompanying you tonight." He hissed at her introduction before saying "Another third-rate hussy? They could have at least send me one with a chest... Whatever." He walked into the carriage, leaving a rather surprised yet irritated look on Halibel's face before she followed him inside. The maid shook her head at the door of the mansion while saying to herself "Can't say I didn't warn her."

Halibel and her client, Liam, were being taken to a ball hosted by an the royal family of Fiore. Halibel was grinding her teeth, trying not to slap the Liam for is previous remark about her chest size. She then remembered that part of her job was to entertain him with conversation, so she made an effort to do just that. "So... One of your maid's told me that you're quite an adept swordsmen. I make use of a vast array of swords an armors in combat. How long have you been practicing swordplay? He rolled his eyes and said to Halibel "A woman playing knight. I'd like to see that... Tell me, did that guild accept you out of pity, or are they just that desperate." Halibel used all the strength in her body to stop herself from slapping him straight out of the seat. Lucky for the both of them, they had arrived at the royal palace.

Liam got out of the carriage first, and helped Halibel get out right after. "I guess in public he has to act nice" she thought. Once Halibel had entered the ball room, she was amazed but all the elegant aristocrats and nobles that were attending the ball. Halibel even noticed some members of the royal family making conversation with some important looking guest. "Wow...This guy must actually be pretty important if he got invited to -this- party." she thought. Halibel and her client made a lot of small talk with some of the less important guest for a while. All Halibel could notice thought was how sad and uninterested her date looked throughout the party.

Halibel watched as her client walked over to the side of the ball room and leaned on the wall. She followed him over to the wall with an awkward smile on her face. "I think there are still a few guest that wanted to greet you... Should I tell them that you're not feeling well?" He gave her a smug look before saying "Why don't you tell them that I'm too embarrassed to be seen with a girl like you. Like really, what was the name of the third-rate guild they pulled you from?" Halibel clinched her fist before asking him "What was that?" He replied "You heard me."

She was close to her boiling point, but before she attempted to punch him in the face for insult her guild, she looked deep into his eye. They looked familiar. Halibel thought to herself "I've had those same look in my eyes before...He's lost something in his life." Eye began to look at the couple as Liam bolted out the door.

Halibel chased after her client with her ball gown impairing her speed. She called out to him "Hey! Wait!" He turned around and faced Halibel with tears in his eyes. He began to speak "Do you know why everyone at this party is being so nice to me? It's not because I'm important. It's because they feel bad for me! It's the anniversary of my mother's death. I'm sure that's the only reason I was even invited. Do you know how it feels to be forced to put on a fake smile when the one person that made you smile is gone? Do you?" gone? Do you?"

Halibel stared at him in silence for a few seconds before saying "I do... I've lost someone I cared for a lot to. But someone told me something that help me get over it." Halibel began to walk closer to him "Honor your mother's memory. She'd want you to be happy. She'd want to see a smile on your face. I know I would anywa-" She was cut off after she tripped on her dress and fell on her client. The both of them were on the ground looking each other in the eyes. After a moment had passed, he began to laugh. He wasn't like before when he was laughing at her. He said "You're a lot like her... She was pretty awkward to." Halibel blushed before quickly standing up. She then cleared her through and said in the most serious voice she could muster in such a lighthearted moment "I'm not awkward."

Halibel helped her client off the floor. The both of them looked into each other eyes again before they both bursted out into laughter. The client said to Halibel "I'll honor her by staying happy and kind... Just like she would have wanted." The both of them went back into the ball room and began to dance and socialize with the other guest till it was time for them to leave. When the party came to an end, they both walked towards their carriage talking and laughing with one another.

While on the carriage, the client said to Halibel "Hey...I'm sorry for the way I acted. If there is anyway I can make it up to you just ask." "Just keep acting like you are now... It -actually- makes you seem like a likable person" she said sarcastically. The both of them laughed again as the reached the mansion of the client. He started to out of the carriage but before he could stopped him to say something. "Oh wait! Before you go I just want to tell you one last thing." Her facial expression changed from happy, to cold and dark. The tone of her voice also changed to match her face "If you ever call me or my guild third-rate again... There will be hell to pay." She then closed the door on the carriage and allowed the driver to take her to the train station, leaving the client with a more than terrified look on his face.
