Autumn was never a favourite time for the novice mage; it seemed that whenever the season changed the cold would arrive very quickly, and then disperse into a temporary heat wave from time to time to really confuse how he felt about the season. Sometimes summer did the exact opposite, where it would just rain for days without ending and be colder than October, but that was that.
Instead of just sitting inside and waiting for the cold to finally reach him, Nao decided that it would be best to trek to a mountain or tall hill, and experience the cold to embrace what the impending weather was going to be like here in Earthland soon. So he grabbed his climbing gear that plot so conveniently gave him (along with his plot armour just to match it), and set off to the nearest mountain he could think of.
His tracks lead him up the Phoenix Mountains, through paths already trekked by many mages and travellers. Some of the muddy tracks seemed to be there from previous people, but he had noticed there were times where he could see giant claw marks in the dirt, as if a giant creature laid in wait.
Nao would sneak up to a point where the mountain seemed to have a huge clearing, only to see a griffin nest perched on the side of the cliff, with the mother missing, but a trail of blood going up the mountain. He would follow it to see that the griffin had been killed and left up on top by an unknown assailant.
Nao figured that if the next didn’t have a mother, than the griffin egg that lay in the nest would surely freeze over. He sighed and began to formulate a plan to help the baby griffin. He figured that if he was going to help the future baby become an adult he would have to make sure he fed it.
But first he knew he would have to sit on the egg and keep it warm, using his heat vision slowly to heat up the egg to keep it warm and loved while it grew. It looked like Nao would be here for a little while.
