"A what?" The girl tilted her head to the side as she spoke with the farmer. There was no way.... She must have misheard him there was no way what he said was true right?"This is the job to catch some chickens right?" She wanted to confirm that this was indeed the correct job, that is what she signed up for, to catch some regular chickens. She had specifically chosen it simply because she thought all she had to do was catch some chickens, pretty simple...
"Yeah you ARE the surpingu mori mage right? You seem awfully small to me! Here at our farms our motto is the bigger the better! So we inject our chickens with magical growth hormones! Makes them taste better to!"
"So how big is it exactly?" So maybe it was a big chicken but it couldn't be that big right? Perhaps maybe waist high? She herself was only maybe 4"5.... So a regular sized chicken seemed pretty large to her already.
"Our chickens stand at about five feet tall and have a peck that can take your eye out!" The farmer seemed almost proud. While Devon seemed more or less worried considering this chicken stood taller than herself. None the less the mage did not voice her concerns to the farmer, it was too late to back down now. Besides she couldn't return back to Surpingu Mori as a failure! What would the rest of the guild think!? She, a C-Rank mage, taken down by an overgrown chicken!?
Fueling herself with these thoughts Devon felt almost sure of herself as the farmer lead her towards where the overgrown chicken was. The white feathered beast was hard to miss and had the girl shaking in her boots. "Don't you dare harm a single feather on that chicken us hear me girlie!? You harm it then you pay for it!" With that the farmer gave her a toothy grin and left.
The girl and the chicken held eye contact. "Don't show fear! It can smell fear!" Still she could not help but shake as she looked up at the chicken that seemed to tower above her. The wind blew ruffling her skirt and hair, same with the chickens feathers. In fact, a tumbleweed rolled between the two the breeze carrying it out of the way. Just like that the young girl turned on her heel and ran, "I can't do this!" However the chicken gave chase much to her dismay. "Leave me alone!!!" She cried as slowly but surely the feathered bird caught up with her. Finally the chicken caught up and a sharp beak landed upon her head, causing the young girl to fall to her knee's clutching the lump on her, tears forming in her red eyes. The chicken seemed to balk at her before stalking away victoriously. At that moment she caught sight of a bag of what appeared to be food in front of her.
"That's right who's a good chicken? You're a good chicken!" The girl cooed, her arms shaking from the weight of holding the large back of chicken feed. She had poked a hole in the bottom of the bag allowing the seeds to slowly bit surely fall out of the bag. All the while she took one step at a time creating a path of food towards the chicken coop. In no time at all the overgrown chicken had caught scent of the food and it was pecking away faster than Venir could poor it. "Good chicken!" Only a few more steps, "Pretty chicken!" Another shaky step back the chicken eating the food so eagerly that it was pecking at exactly where the food was getting poured from coming dangerously close to her toes. "Go get it!" With a burst of strength she tossed the bag and the remaining food into the coop where the giant chicken chased after the bag. "Shut the gate!" She cried out frantically trying to trap the chicken before it ate through the remaining food.
"Wow! You sure look worse for wares!" The farmer commented as the petite blonde approached him. A large lump had formed on her head, chicken food and dirt covered her from head to toe but the task was done. "Well I'll be you actually managed to catch the damn thing!" The farmer laughed, Venir herself looking ready to cry.
"May I please have the reward?" Somehow she was able to remain polite despite having such an experience, "I just want to go back the guild and take a nice long shower...and maybe get this bump checked out." Just touching the lump on her head made her wince. Not to mention she had a long train ride home with nothing but dirt covered clothes. However she didn't lose to the chicken so at the least she could return to her guild somewhat triumphant. In fact! Perhaps Katherine or Deniel would reward her with ice cream when she got back! Thanking the farmer for the reward the girl left the giant chicken farm as quickly as possible thoughts of ice cream, praise, showers, and a good nights rest gave her the burst of energy she needed to get her back to her home.
