Wolfe's B Rank Exam

Letter: "Hello there Wolfe. It's your good friend and friendly Guild Ace of Leaves. It seems you have an idea of what this is going to be, so I'm not going to waste my time with the details. Around Black Rose, I have placed around four elemental Lacrimas. Fire, Water, Wind, and Earth. You're goal is going to be to track down all of the Lacrima Orbs and bring them over to me. They are located all over the borders, so I am giving you a week to find them. You will ace resistance though, when a Lacrima Orb is found, there will be a guard that uses the element they are guarding. Get the item without killing them, harming is fine however. Don't overdo it. Once you have gotten all four of the Lacrima Orbs, come back to the Guild Hall. I think you know what happens from there. Best of Wishes, Good Luck."

Objective: Get all of the elemental Lacrimas. Once you do, get to Elyx at the Guild Hall. Every enemy you face inflicts B rank damage, don't expect an easy fight. Minimum of 300 words per post, 3000 words for your exam. No killing your enemies, they are Black Rose mages as well.

Assistance: You may bring a mage with you on this. Their word count does not matter, it will not benefit to the total Word Count.

Wolfe was sitting in the guildhall on one of the benches with a pile of empty plates scattered across the table in front of him with a letter in his hand. He had been working his ass off for this and finally it was here. The note he held in his hand was from Elyx, and it was the rules and guideline for his B rank exam. Something he had been looking forward to. Even if he was going to die fairly soon, he wanted to know he did something before he bit the dust.

He slowly rose from his seat and tuned around, and walked to the end of the table and then made a straight line for the map of the island on the far wall. After he got there he started to think this over. These fights were going to be in places were the mage had the advantage. Elyx had seen hi in action before and he had a good idea of Wolfe was able to do. He wasn't going to make this easy. As Wolfe looked at the map one of the mages was obvious. The water mage was going to be at the docks. The earth mage was the one Elyx hoped would be a bad type match up for Wolfe but Wolfe still had trick and would go after them last. There was a place just east of the guild where there was a lot of open ground, and that would be perfect for that fight. Now for the other two...

As Wolfe continued to look over the map he started to look for the highest spot on the map still within the town. He found it in a large hill area with a few small homes near the west outskirts. This seemed like a good place for the wind user, to be able to go all out. As for the fire... he was stumped. However, he would have time to track him down later. No it was time to test out his deduction skills as he turned and headed out of the guildhall and towards the docks.

As Wolfe made his way along he made sure to keep a lookout for any bad guesses he made have made or maybe even the fire mage and his lacrima if Wolfe was lucky. As he continued along he saw a few of the regulars around the town he had gotten to know and made sure to wave to each of them and say hi. He even saw a few other guildmates, and waved at a distance to each of them. He had only been in Black Rose for about a month now give or take a little, but in this short time he was already working on his B rank exam, and had made a few Friends and even a team with a fellow Black Rose member and guild Ace Elyx. Wolfe was lucky he found a guild when he did and he was even luckier they welcomed him like they did.

Wolfe was almost upon the dock when he stopped for a second to take a few important details into account. There was no ships at the dock today, which was a good thing if he was too fight anyone there. No major collateral damage.

Wolfe also noticed a few well places crates and a few people on the dock, but at this distance he couldn't make any good details out. After a few he began back on his trek towards the docks.

A short time later he was standing at the end of the dock and was looking around. There were a few of the crates placed around the dock at random places and a few stacked on both sides of the dock near him. There were only 3 people on the dock, and 2 of them were fishing. However, sitting very quietly on a crate on the other end of the dock. When their eye met it was obvious this was his target.

It was almost perfect as the two fishermen silently got up packed up quickly and left the dock leaving only Wolfe and his target. Wolfe walked up to the opening of the dock with a pile of crates on both sides and came to a stop. The mage at the other end of the dock stood up and smirked at Wolfe. Wolfe made no face at all but instead just nodded at the man. Wolfe knew he had the upper hand, bt he didnt want the other mage to know. At worst Elyx told him that he used lightning, at best he had no clue and this was going to be over fast. Wolfe waited a few seconds before the other guy made the first move.

Wolfe saw as the mage shot a wave of water from Wolfe's left side right from the water. Wolfe ducked and rolled to his right. He landed right behind the crates and reached back to grab the hilt of Loki and he felt the shock as Loki released a jolt off and Wolfe could feel the force of the shock surge though his body. He closed his eyes for a second and focused on the pressure of the air around him. That is when felt it. Wolfe looked up at the last second to see a huge hand made of water above him. Wolfe rolled to his right and kept rolling. The fist came down a half a second later and just missed Wolfe. Wolfe rolled from behind the crates and kept rolling till he rolled behind the other crates on the other side of the dock. He then turned into bolt form and zapped along the dock to the edge. The crates went all the way to the edge so there was no way the mage could see as Wolfe edged over the edge and under the the dock.

Wolfe zapped along the under side of the dock and heard as creates were being destroyed from where he had just been at. As Wolfe hit the end of the dock he edged back over the edge and right behind the mage who was once again using a spell to crush the last crate. Wolfe reformed just as the last crate was destroyed and heard a very light "huh?" escape the mage's lips. Wolfe dropped into a croutch and smirked as he made a sound like he was clearing his throat. The mage turned around with a look of confusion on his face, but it was too late. Wolfe threw out his arm right between the mage's legs and thrusted his body up and caught the mage in between the legs and as he continued to stand he picked the mage up and over him as he twisted his body and threw the mage over the edge of the dock into the water. Wolfe followed with the throw as well and went into the water with him.

As the two mages broke the surface of the water about a foot from each other. The water mage smirked as he raised his right hand out and started to make a seal for a spell, but Wolfe just raised his hand as well. The other mage spoke "I have the advantage. you know that right?" Wolfe just responded with a smirk as sparks of electricity started to erupt from his eye. The mage's eyes opened wide as he realized what Wolfe was. Wolfe was already doing the math in his head. With a large body of water like this, it would dissipate the effects of his power but the mage was close enough to still get shocked to shit. The mage fanatically tried to finish the spell, but it was too late as Wolfe released a huge amount of electricity from his body and watched as the mages hand started to shake and then his whole body from the shock. Wolfe just continued as he spoke "Just let me know when you give in." After about 30 more seconds Wolfe finally heard as the man let out a light gasp of words "i.i.i.i.i.....gi.gi.gi.gi.v.v.v.v.e.e.e...give..." Wolfe smiled as he stopped releasing his energy and before the mage had a chance to sink, Wolfe reached out and grabbed him. He then swam them both back to the ladder near the edge of the dock and Wolfe climbed up holding the man on his back.

Once they were on the dock again, Wolfe sat down next the mage and made sure he was ok. After exchanging a few words the mage told Wolfe where the lacrima was. They parted ways as Wolfe walked over to a small crate right near them and opened it up and pulled out the lacrima and placed it in his pocket. Wolfe walked back over to the mage who was now able to stand and helped him up. They exchanged a few words and Wolfe watched as the man left to head towards the guildhall.

Wolfe sat down on one of the crates and started to think things over. However, this was not working out for him. At first he intended to take it slow and do it over a few days, but he was slowly losing his nerve about it. His desire to become an Ace was great, and this was the first step... but that wasn't the problem. Ever since he had returned from the ice island he had been consumed with concepts that were just beyond him, and he didst sleep much to begin with, but every time he closed his eye he saw the same thing. That scene with the living magic at the center of the island. He saw it right there and it was contained and working. However, the magic inside of Wolfe was killing him. If that wasn't enough he had this feeling that he was missing something. He felt like like he had hit a new plateau with his powers but couldn't quite get there.

There was only one way to do it and it was to rank up now and find someone that could push him to the next level. Wolf stood up and took bolt form as he shot up into the sky. He could see the area on the hill and he could even see a figure there. Wolfe jolted in that direction and within seconds he was just above the edge of the hill area. Wolfe dropped down and hit the ground running. The mage had a smirk on his face as he watched Wolfe running at him, but slowly his smirk faded as he realized Wolfe was there and he was wasn't slowing down at all. Wolfe was here, and he was out for blood.

Wolfe started out in a run and started to push himself as he was pushing it. He knew he was faster then this, he knew he wasn't at his limit. The Air mage threw his hands in front of him and started to create visible bands of air in th area between his hands. Then a magic circle appeared and waves of air ripped out from the circle, one after another. Wolfe had a good distance of about 100 yards or so to cover. Wolfe didn't slow down but instead as each wave was about to hit him he shifted to bolt form and zagged to the left and reformed and took a few steps and did the same only zagging to the right this time. Wolfe was closing the gap fast as he was just around 60 yards now and not letting up.

The mage pulled his hands apart and created a new magic circle with each and now there were waves of air shooting at Wolfe from every direction. Wolfe kept zigging and zagging in and out of bolt form and as he dodged the shots. Wolfe was closing in the as really quick now. As he was about 20 yards away. Wolfe thought he was past the worst then he felt as a wave hit him across the back near his shoulder and made him fall forward into a roll. As he came out fo the roll he was back into a dash but he didn't have enough time to dodge another wave.

Wolfe focused and tried to move faster and for a second his body almost looked like it vibrated for a second and a half of an after image appeared for a second but he couldn't do it, and the wave caught him in the shoulder. Wolfe jst gritted through the pain as he was now almost right up in the mage's face. The Mage realized this was about to get ugly and went to turn and run, but Wolfe jolted forward and reformed and threw a right hook and caught the mage in the gut stopping him from running. Wolfe then pulled back his right arm as he swung in with a left hook and got another good shot to the gut. As the mage doubled over, Wolfe raised both hands and grab the sides of the mage's head and pulled it down as Wolfe started to bring his right knee up and there was a loud crack as his knee hit the mage's face and sent the mage flying backwards. As he landed a few feet away he rolled backwards and brought his arms together and a magic seal appeared and a group of waves seemed to form on top of each other making a star looking shape and started to spin. This was one of those spells that couldn't be dodge at this range. The mage shot the spell forward in hopes to end's Wolfe's onslaught.

It was now or never as Wolfe pushed to be faster then he ever had and as he dashed forward hos body vibrated and just about a second before it hit Wolfe his body phased forward and left an after image made of electricity. Wolfe felt as he body did a phasing like teleport and reformed just in front of the mage who's eye were extremely large from shock. Wolfe swung his right hand forward at the age's face but stopped mid swing just inches from his face "Do you give?" The mage quietly answered [/color]"yes......"[/color] As the mage stumbled back and landed on his ass.

Wolfe fell back and landed on his ass as well. He looked across to the other mage and smiled at him. The two talked for about 20 minutes before mage pointed to a box off to the side. Wolfe already knew what was in it and nodded to the man. They both got up and shook hands and parted their separate ways. Wolfe walked over to the box and pulled out the wind lacrima. 2 done 2 to go. Wolfe put the lacrima away and turned to a bolt and took tot he skies.

As he was flying above the town he thought of all the places he might find the fire mage and his lacrima, and as odd as it might seem he kept coming to the same answer.... the black smith's shop. It was in the south eastern part of the city and tucked away in the corner , so it was a little bit from the closest building just in case. It seemed like a small place, but then again, everything was game. He turned and made his way to that side of town. only a few moments later he landed on the top of the building closest to the smith shop and as he looked at the shop a man walked out with a red lacrima in his hand a smirk on his face. He turned his gave right to Wolfe like he had been waiting and knew he was here. Wolfe jumped off the top of the building and landed on the ground in a crouch and without missing a beat he started to stand up as he started to walk. The man placed the lacrima on the ground and then kicked it behind him. So it wasn't in the middle of the fight. The two men walked up to each other and stopped when they were about a foot apart from each other. the fire mage held out his right arm with the palm facing up "I already know your faster then me, but blow for blow, not a lot of guys can go with me. You want to do this the good old fashioned way? Wolfe smirked as he held out 1 finger to tell the mage to hold on one second and then Wolfe closed his eye and then a few seconds later a bolt of lightning came crashing down from the sky and hit Wolfe, he then put out his left arm out and laid it on top of the fore age's with his palm facing down.

The two men clenched their hand down and get a good hold of other. they both brought their other hands up clenched and both men engulfed their hand in their respective element and pulled their hands back. The two men looked each other in the eye for a few seconds and in perfect unison they swung forward and nailed each other in the jaw, and then both men pulled their hands back and swung in again catching each other in the face. The two men started to exchange hits one after another until one of Wolfe's seemed to make the mage hesitate. As Wolfe's hit connected with the mage's face he opened his hand quickly and reached out just a little more and grabbed the mage by the front of his hair and pulled his head forward and Wolfe reared his head back and just as the mage's head was about hit Wolfe's face he let go of the man's head and he drove his head down and caught the mage's face with his forehead. The man stumbled back a step but ca back in woth a hook to Wolfe's face which he kindly responded with the same back. With that hook the man stumbled back again and this time Wolfe had to stop him from stumbling back anymore with his arm still holding on to the mage's. Wolfe yanked the mage back and just caught the man by his shoulder as Wolfe realease the man's arm. Wolfe just smirked as he was covered in blood and gave the man a playful slap and the man fell backwards and landed on his back, Wolfe did the same as he fell backwards and landed on his ass. Both men were cover in blood.

After about 10 second the black smith walked out out of his shop and picked up the orb and walked it over to the and handed it to Wolfe and asked if they needed help, Wolfe ask the an if he could call to the guildhall and ask for them to be helped back. The mage pulled his head up just after the smith had walked away "Kid... i don't ever want to see what it is like at the end of a beating of someone you actually hate..." His head fell back as he laughed. Wolfe chuckled as well "Don't worry old man.... i don't want that person to ever be you." Wolfe started to really laugh and he ended up falling the rest of the way back so now both men were a bloody mess and laughing. The two of the continued to tell jokes and laugh until the wind guy and water guys showed up and just looked at the two fo them and laughed as well and then helped them up and too the guild hall.

After they entered the guildhall they all made it to the main area and the wind and water mages sat Wolfe and the fire mage across from each other who were leaning across the table and giving each other playful slaps and laughing. Both men were bloody with their faces busted up, and most of the rest of their bodies unharmed. The other two ages came back with drinks and the four of the sat down and had some drinks while they told a few jokes and laughed. They were just giving Wolfe and fire mage a little bit to be able to walk on their own.

The mages returned, and boy did they come with a beating with them. It seems they were beaten, but what about the Lacrima? Just as he was thinking that, it seemed Wolfe was doing the right thing now with all of the Lacrimas with him. The boy let out a smile, his teammate had done well, and now he was going to be rewarded. There were no actual questions that Elyx could think of from the top of his head. All he had to do was claim the lacrima and give the rank. Ignite was by Elyx's side as well, as usual, not as formal as he was. Her arms were crossed under her chest as usual, it was normally boring for her to be in meetings and formal events such as this, but Elyx liked to see the members of Black Rose advancing higher up the ranks. Well my friend, it seems you have done the task. The Lacrimas have been brought to me, and just like that, you have done what I have asked. And just as quickly, I am proud to say that you have ranked up. Welcome, you are now a B ranked mage.

After about an hour or so Wolfe stood up and thanked the guys for a good time and walked out of the guildhall. After he left the guild building he he took bolt form and took to the sky. It was coming on late afternoon at this point, and he needed to do this before it was dark. He bolted towards the clearing and a few second later he was landing in the center of the area. On the other side stood a very large man with dark hair. He was sitting on a stump and staring at the ground. As Wolfe landed the man looked up with a smirk on his face, but the smirk quickly disappeared as he looked Wolfe up and down "Hey kid... you look pretty bad, which one did that to you? i know they are decent, but i figured you would have put up a better fight against which ever one did that to you..." He man stopped mid sentence and reached his hand into his pocket and pulled out a lacrima. He held it up and started to stare at it for a minute or so. During this time Wolfe had walked up and took a seat on anther stump a few feet away from the man and just folded his hand in his lap as he closed his eyes and took some deep breathes to help him feel a little better. Wolfe opened his eyes and looked up as he heard the man make a gasping sound. The man looked own and met Wolfe's eyes and the man's were a mixture of fear and intrigue "YOU TOOK ALL 3 OF THEM OUT TODAY? this wasn't just one of them but ALL 3?... kid you have a death wish... and what am i watc..... YOU DID WHAT? WHAT THE FUCK IT WRONG WITH YOU KID?!?!? YOU WENT BLOW FOR BLOW AND WALKED AWAY?!?" The mans eye switched from the lacrima to Wolfe and continued to dart between both the whole time was was talking. After a few he lowered the lacrima and placed it in his pocket and turned to Wolfe.

Before he could say another word held up his hand and waved it from side to side to tell him to stop right there "Don't worry man, i am in no condition to fight right now. I just didn't want you waiting to nothing. ... Wolfe stopped moving his hand and lowered all but 2 fingers "2 day.... meet me back here around 8am or so in 2 day and bring that lacrima, i will need to take it back with me when we are done." Wolfe stood up and started to walk away and every time the mage tried to say something Wolfe just cut him off with "2 days", and then Wolfe was gone.

Wolfe went home for the next 2 days he slept in and grabbed Loki a few times and help heal some of the damage and on the morning of the after the second day he woke up and put on his pants and boots and that was all and he strapped Loki in his sheath right across the small of his back attached to his pants. He then walked out of the building and took tot he sky. A few seconds later he landed at the edge of the clearing. Standing in the center was the man and he looked like he was ready for a battle. The other 3 guys and a few other spectators were scattered along the far edges of the area. The man called out to Wolfe "Hey kid, are you sure about this? you still have at least 4 more days and you are not healed to full."

Wolfe just smirked as he cracked his neck in a few spots and called back out to the man "Don't worry about me. I am well enough. Lets get this going. you take the first shot." Wolfe then reached back and grabbed Loki's hilt and a surge of electricity erupted around Wolfe's body and then was gone. Wolfe dropped his hands to his sides and dropped his body so he looked like he was ready to go. The man just shook his head as he put both his hands out and created two seals.

The earth on both sides of Wolfe shot up and turned into huge walls. The man then turned his hands inward and clapped them together, and as he did the 2 walls suddenly started to close in rapidly. The was a flash of light as a bolt of lightning came crashing down fro the sky and the there was a loud crash as the walls hit. and dust was sent everywhere. The was no sound until the dust started to settle and it could be see the walls didn't actually meet. Sitting in the center of the wall was Wolfe with his arms out to each side. His forearms firmly placed on each wall and arcs of lightning erupting from his body. The man's eyes almost popped out of his head at what he was watching. This kid was not something to scoff at. He realized there was a reason he had taken the other 3 in one day. He started to create magic circles, but the game was on now. Wolfe turned into a bolt and shot straight up just as the walls closed and then another rock pillar shot up from where he had just been and curved and slammed into the ground. Wolfe reformed mid air and then started to shift between bolt and normal form as he started to zig and zag through all the flying chunks of ground the mage was throwing at Wolfe.

Just as Wolfe was closing in he mage he reformed on a piece of the earth and he kicked it back at the mage. The mage ripped another piece and threw it to block the one Wolfe threw back. As the two smashed together the debris made it hand to see, but at the last second the mage took a step back and closed his arms in front of him causing chunks of earth to rip apart fro both sides and come slamming together as a shield in front of him. Wolfe came flying through the debris and was punching down but the mage had seen him with just enough time to react and Wolfe fist met the earth shield. There was a loud *BOOM* and the shield cracked a little. The mage threw one hand down and made a flicking motion and a pillar shot up from under Wolfe. Wolfe threw out his other hand and as the pillar hit his hand he let the force of the pillar hit him up and Wolfe spun his body to catch his feet on the side of the pillar and kicked himself off so he landed just behind the mage. The mage heard Wolfe land but he didn't have a chance to react as Wolfe shifted his body and fell backwards and brought both feet up and kicked them out. The kick hit in the mage's back and it knocked him off balance. as he fell to the side.

The mage had no intention of letting that hit go unpunished. as he fell over he swung out his arm and made a swing movement. The earth under Wolfe started to shift and Wolfe went to roll to the side, but that is what the mage wanted as chuck of earth right under where Wolfe shot up and flung Wolfe in the air, and with another flick a second piece shot up from the other direction. The second piece hit Wolfe in this side. Wolfe had tried to twist with the shot to make sure he wasn't hit With full force. He had done so, but it was still a really good hit and he was knocked to the side. Wolfe twisted his body and managed to land on all fours as he lifted his head to meet the mage's eyes as he too was getting up. Both men got up and dusted themselves off and stared each other down. Wolfe was more then impressed at this mage's skill and ability to use spells in succession. The mage was shocked at Wolfe's sheer combat skill.

Wolfe took a few steps back and then lowered himself a little and took off in a dash. The mage responded with creating a wall in front of him and then causing it to explode outwards. Wolfe knew this was one of those moment where he needed to get it right again and he thought to himself *FASTER!!!* He focused all his energy and tried to repeat the effect from before and once again his body started to vibrate and at the last second his body phased once again. The after image was smashed by the flying rocks, and he shifted forward and reformed about 2 feet from the mage. He was taken back at what he saw but had a good head on his shoulders and he lifted his hands and as he did smaller rocks started to fly from the ground and created rock gauntlets around his hands as he knew this was about to get nasty quick. Wolfe moved in for a shot and was met with a swing from the mage. Wolfe ducked under it and clipped a hook to the mage's side. Wolfe saw a side swing and spun with the swing and ducked as he shifted his body and as he saw another swing he kicked his body away from the shot as he through out his hand and landed in a one handed handstand. Wolfe twisted his hand to cause his body to spine and swung his leg in and brought his knee into the mage's right rib. The mage kicked out his left leg and caught Wolfe in his ribs and as the mage followed through with he kick he kicked Wolfe to the side. Wolfe twisted his body and hit the ground in a tuck and rolled into a crouching position.

Wolfe turned and looked at the mage and the mage looked down Wolfe. they were both pretty damaged at this point. The next hit was going to decided the winner of this battle. Wolfe started walking at the mage, and he did the same. Wolfe let the mage swing first and as the mage came in with a right hook Wolfe shifted his body to move with the hit as much as he could. It still hurt like hell but as the punch connected Wolfe reached out his hand and wrapped it around the mage's so he couldn't pull back. The mage swung in his left hand fro anther hook, but Wolfe blocked it with his right forearm. Wolfe smirked at the mage just as the mage looked him in the eyes. It was obvious that he knew that Wolfe's next attack wouldn't be quite enough to take him down and nothing he could do would help since he would ground out any lightning effect. Wolfe's eye then started to turn black instead of white with a yellow glow. The mage's eyes opened as Wolfe activated his linage and Wolfe brought his hand back and flung it at the mage's face. He went to move but since Wolfe still had his arm he could move much and just as the punch connected Wolfe yelled "CATASTROPHE!" and just as the hit connected with the mage's face a bolt of black energy came crashing from the sky and hit at the exact same second with a loud *CRASH* Wolfe let go of the mage's arm and the mage took a few steps backwards and then the rocks around his hands started to fall back to the ground and he fell backwards. Wolfe walked up next to him and offered him his hand to help him up.

The mage just shook his head for a second and then smirked as he placed his hand on the ground and it ripped open and the lacrima came out of the hole. The mage handed it up to Wolfe and took his hand and let Wolfe help him up.

Wolfe and all the mages slowly made their way back to the guildhall and all 5 of them sat down and started to drink. Who the hell cared if it was only like 8:30 am, it was 5 pm somewhere. Wolfe placed all 4 lacrima on the table and was just waiting for Elyx to walk by.
