Does Koto Have Any Special Characteristics?
Probably the most noticeable thing about Koto is the large red horns that grow from his head. His father also had one, similar to Koto’s left horn. He also has a few body parts that are altered while spell casting. His dragon-like eyes glow bright white and his left hand’s appearance is overtaken by that of a demon’s hand.
What is Koto’s Backstory?
The Azamuku bloodline runs thick with strong mages that have stood the test of time, producing powerful warriors wielding a unique style of magic for hundreds of years. They are a nomadic tribe that uses the concealment of nature to further their survival. Koto is simply a continuation of this bloodline’s cycle. Being only 24 years old he still has a lot of progress to make and does not even compare to some of those that have come before him. The Azamuku family owes the continuation of their name to the art of an ancient illusionary magic, which they have perfected. It is a difficult magic to learn but, when mastered, has the potential to be quite devastating and certainly live saving.
Not too long after birth a ritual took place to grant Koto the tools he would need to wield this ancient magic. Using a dragon claw, a summoning circle was carved into the palm of his hand. Ancestors were called upon to grant him wisdom, strength and guidance but other beings among the dead were listening. The ritual gave Koto even more power than his family desired but twisted his body in doing so, causing the horns on his head and the demon hand that the circle was carved on. This disfigurement caused fear in those around him and distrust flooded the air as the oracles sensed an evil otherworldly presence.
He was cast out and quickly forgotten by his village that was hidden in the isolation of dense forest. However, natives to the forest of the area, under the instruction of the same demon that intercepted Koto’s ritual, retrieved him and took him to their care. These were worshipers of the faceless demon, Noppera-bo, and they came together under the name Yurie. The Azamuku had set up their village in the domain of Noppera-bo and performing the ritual on Koto was what allowed an interaction. Under instruction from the demon, the Yurei raised Koto and trained him in the arts of magic, survival, and worship.
- Noppera-bo:
Noppera-bo would often visit Koto in his dreams in the form of extra training. Through these meetings Koto was drawn to the power of dreams and the awe of illusions and through these meetings he began to form his own unique style of magic. The demon shared lessons in stealth, concealment of emotions, combat, and trickery. These all being key elements to Koto’s Dream Magic.
The goals of the Yurei are simple and that gives Koto’s meaning for living simple. Worship and expansion through any means necessary. The Yurei are not afraid to use force against their foes but only do so when needed. They are masters of deception and reconnaissance. And when Koto had learned all he could from them, he departed to continue his journey in the name of the faceless demon who still visits him in his dreams giving him guidance.
What Does He Enjoy?
Meditation - It is important for Koto to stay tranquil. He spends a lot of his down-time meditating to keep his emotions in check.
Fashion - Koto genuinely cares about his external appearance. He is enamored by expensive and flashy clothing/jewelry.
Nature - Koto was raised in nature and has a deep respect for it. Being indoors for too long makes him anxious.
Pipe - Koto smokes a pipe. He loves his pipe.
What Brings Him Distaste?
Alcohol - Koto stays away from alcohol and other substances that cause you to lose grasp of your emotions.
Surprises - Koto likes to be informed about whatever situation he is walking into.
Arrogance - Koto thinks that arrogance is disgusting. He understands that arrogance is always a veil.
What Motivates Him?
Spread of Worship - The faceless demon demands worship and Koto views himself as a tool of worship.
Being Worthy - Koto wants to prove to Noppera-bo and himself that he is of the best.
Being a Guardian- Koto wants to make the world a better place for the people around him. His approach is a little chaotic but strangely it is one of his values.
What Makes Him Fearful?
Instability of Emotions - Koto’s biggest fear is getting into a situation in which he can not control his emotions. As his power is harnessed through emotions he takes major precautions before expressing how he feels.
Helplessness - As with any other person, it drives him crazy to be in a situation in which he is rendered useless. He will sometimes do too much to try and involve himself in situations where he is not needed.
Death - Koto believes he has real purpose and sometimes is fearful of his death and not being able to fulfill that purpose. This causes him to value his own survival over his friends’ in some situations and also is the reason he does not fight when he knows he can not win.
What Does Koto Look Like?
Besides his uneven horns and bright white eyes, Koto is well built and fairly tall. He dresses expensive and keeps his long white hair groomed. During battle he wears a decorated suit of armor with colors of black, red, and gold. While casting spells his hand morphs into a demon hand and his eyes glow white. The effects of his spell casts is a purple trail that envelopes his demon hand. One can almost always count on his face to be expressionless.
