Sometime ago, Enola had helped several injured Rune Knight veterans by entertaining people for money to help them get the money they needed. The maid had never really figured out how much money they had raised nor did she really converse that much with the Rune Knights, but apparently one took interest in her. One of them had recommended Enola to another Rune Knight who worked as a prison warden after one his prisoners escaped the prison. It was an incident that stirred up a lot of trouble because the person who escaped the prison was none other than Jacob Goodnight, a serial killer that Enola had put away several months earlier. Everyone in Hargeon Town was scared straight seeing as how he had originated from that town and was likely to return to that place and begin his killing there once more.
Enola was quite surprised herself, especially since she recalled sure he would never walk again after piercing his ankle with her feather duster spear. She had even stomped on the poor man’s hand after he dirtied her housemaid uniform. To this day, Enola still had the scar where Jacob had sliced away as her stomach with his meat hook. She also had stiches on her uniform from the same cut, though she tried to ignore the stain on the otherwise perfect outfit. She would have ditched the uniform after the brief battle with him if it was not so meaningful to her. The maid uniform belonged to her late mother, and it still angered Enola when she thought about Jacob Goodnight nearly ruining for good. After that, the maid had contemplated not taking the uniform with her anymore out of fear that she could not preserve the keepsake from her mother. Alas, Shohei did not approve of her other uniform option and thus stuck with the housemaid uniform.
The maid strapped on her limiter that evening before going off to Era. The limiter was a special bracelet that limited the maid’s power and was an object that had been accompanying Enola lately as a way to make her stronger. She had been taking every precaution to build up her strength, getting ready for the day that she would face the man she dreaded so. That day, however, she expected to face Jacob Goodnight. Unfortunately, Jacob had nearly killed Enola without the limiter. There was no telling how well she would fare this time, but she had gotten stronger since last meeting him. The maid expected Jacob to still have some sort of injury from the last time they met. She dearly hoped the odds were in her favor this time. Still, she decided to play safe and bring Anguis with her for backup.
Enola and her cousin, Anguis Pisa, made their way to Era and stopped by the prison to see the warden. Prison was one of Enola’s greatest fears so she allowed Anguis to handle most of the talking while fear gripped the maid. The conversation was short: Jacob Goodnight had apparently dug a tunnel in the wall of his cell to escape and was now likely somewhere on the outskirts of the city or the countryside at the most. With that, the duo went off and headed for the outskirts in search of a disturbance. They found little aside from hints and reports that a large, heavy-set fellow was seen traveling south… the same direction as Hargeon Town. The two knew exactly where he was heading and made haste as they followed his somewhat subtle trail.
Eventually, the two caught up to their target. Jacob was tired and huffing for air as they found him, and he seemed to still have some sort of injury; in fact, he had a prosthetic foot! Apparently, the medical tam in charge of handling him couldn’t save his foot. Nonetheless, Enola and Anguis attempted to grab him and hall him off before he immediately objected. He explained himself, detailing how he simply wanted to see his family in Hargeon Town once more. Before becoming a serial killer, Jacob apparently had his own family but went bonkers after his wife cheated on him and took out on everyone else by committing as much murder as possible. Enola pondered the idea before reluctantly agreeing to take him to see his family, much to Anguis’ disgust. Within a day, the trio had arrived in Hargeon Town, met up with the Goodnight family, and headed back to the prison. The warden was surprised to see Jacob returning without a fight to say the least but didn’t argue with the fact. He instead, slipped Enola the Jewels owed her.
