It was a Sunday again, the time of week where her master dedicated an entire duration of twilight to eve for a life's worth of meditation. The great Märchen von Friedhof did this as often as he could, and whenever he did, he'd leave his apprentice with nothing but a day's worth of errands to keep her preoccupied. Mairin thought of it as her mentor's own way of saying 'Shoo, get out of here, you'll only interrupt me.'

She loved her master dearly, but Friedhof had taken the sun out of her Sundays by taking away Octavia and placing her equally beloved baton in the holier-than-thou cabinet of forbidden things. It was an old, decaying wood cabinet buried in the darkness of Friedhof's basement, a lonely place that he knew Mairin would have equally loved to avoid.

With the weight of Octavia gone from her waist, Mairin had been wondering around town with a small aching pain poking at her side. The loss of her partner at hand was a little becoming for the apprentice muse, growing up with the sword attached to the scabbard at her hip. Now there was no Octavia. Whenever she impulsively grabbed at the space at her right, there wasn't the familiar curve of Octavia's handle or the cold metal of the brass bend rounding over her fingers. It was driving her mad with frustration that she would probably mistake a carriage wheeled by horses as the sound of Octavia rattling against the wooden scabbard.

Mairin idly blew a breath against her hair as a few strays wondered over her hair. Much like them, she had eclipsed the entire town with her boredom in a roundabout way. Back over, and back under again. She tried to find new things, but her list errands did not give any permission at all. "Stupid master Märchen." she mumbled, "He'd list the most boring of all boring things as my things-to-do, and abandon me." she kicked away at the invisible dirt sitting close to her boot as she scanned over the folded paper again, trying to mimic envy for her master's handwriting and his elegant prose in place of hating the actual errands.

She read the 4th one out loud, so loud that she could've sworn the women at the cake shop were laughing at her particularly. "The eggs that you've murdered must be replaced. Go to Mrs. Benedict's shop a few minutes before noon to get a discount. Not only will you be able to get a better quantity of eggs for 150 jewels, but you also won't waste any because they deliver their eggs the next day." Mairin nipped at her lips with her teeth in annoyance, "....Easy for you say, it's only 10 A.M and I'm almost done! What am I supposed to do for a whole two hours?!"

Mairin stood there sadly as the sun was ever so warm and inviting behind her. She tilted her head in it's direction before gripping the air that was once Octavia's handle. 'Sunday' she thought, 'Sun. Day.'

She repeated the phrase in her head, spun it over and made acronyms, then stared at the paper in her hands intensely. The fifth one was crossed out by a fierce black line. It taunted her, wanted her to decipher what had irritated her master's mind and made him regret his decision. Spinning a heel, Mairin raised the paper in the direction of the sky, the sun beaming through the black lines.

It was a little sloppy, the letters stopped at each letter as if they were never meant to be written. But it was there. She could read them, clear as day. She opened her lips as the sun rose higher, hotter, and brighter.

    "Join...a....faction...?"

It truly, truly was Sunny day.

Towa was on the beat today, doing rounds like a good little Rune Knight, she hated doing rounds. Towa sighed stopped looking at the sky, she heard Naomi, Izumi and Saril stop behind her. It had been a while since they had all gone out, she hoped the shift would be over quickly. Towa sighed again and started walking, the three alters keeping up. Towa was quite bored, it was common knowledge that she was on shift today so it was likely to be a slow day. She had a reputation for being heavy handed in her law-bringing, to the point people didn't like to cross her period. She kept on walking only to get stopped by a child, a lost kitten... wonderful. Towa sighed once more and set out to search for the kitten with the child, it took more than a hour to find the blasted thing. Worst part of all they found it in the yard of the child, Towa could not help but wonder how she was so unlucky. You see Towa was a Rune Knight that liked the action, she liked getting shot at and other such violence. It came from her once being the Goddess of War Many, Many years ago, Perhaps Many is not the right word. Towa set off again, only to get pulled aside by a woman.

"Your a Rune Knight, Yes?" The woman asked, Towa simply blinked at the woman. She was on the beat, meaning she was wearing a Rune Knight uniform for once. "Good... so there is a strange girl by the cake shop... she was talking to herself. I'm just worried that she might need medical attention or something." The woman gave a short bow and walked off.

"Wonderful." Towa muttered as she set off to the cake shop that was mentioned. The trip was very short considering the shop was only around the corner and just like the lady had mentioned. There she was... a strange girl talking to herself. Towa sighed and reached back, releasing the latch on War. Izumi gave her a dirty look, Towa simply shrugged, "Hey a girl can hope, can't she?" Towa said as she toward the woman. "Ma'am? are you ok?" Towa called out to the woman as she came within reasonable distance to speak.

The Meaning of Justice Empty Re: The Meaning of Justice

There was a thing called fear, the sickly and violent one that ransacked your system and made you cower -still and wide-eyed. And then there was a thing called anxiety, often mistaken for the other when really, they were nothing alike. Anxiety came from an unsavory situation where your mouth went dry and all the moisture teleported to your fingers, to your skin, to your neck in a frenzy.

Fear was a serious emotion, it was true, and it was factual. But anxiety was always, more often than not, strewn from a misunderstanding. And right then, Mairin misunderstood everything. She was holding unto her master's perpetually mottled list when someone who looked elegantly dressed approached her with a questioning and oddly concerned look. Around her then too, people began staring at her like she had an open zipper or something close.

When the taller woman asked her if she was okay, she knew something was amiss. And in order to make it seem more or less a plausible situation and to avoid anything else, she immediately reached out and clasped the other woman's hands in her own and made a relieved expression.

The gears in her brain were going click, clack, that even her words were senseless. She had no reason but to approach the nearest and most obvious way out of it. "Oh, thank you for asking!" she exclaimed, smiling as far as her lips could push it, "I was hoping to ask you the...um..." Mairin glanced at the paper in her hands, crumpled it between her fingers, and shoved it into her pocket.

She eyed the woman curiously, where her uniform told her small stories of an organization, and without much thinking, she blurted what her heart told her. Perhaps it was better than asking what a faction meant. "I was hoping you could let me join your faction!"

And without much of a hesitation, she discarded whatever logic was there in the first place. As the sea of glares dyed out and the idle chatter of people rose, Mairin threw a fist over her chest.  "I'm ready to face whatever consequences there are."

What her master would say after she'd come back that day, egg-less and caught up in a mess that was supposed to happen long after her training.
