Having gone on a plethora of jobs, Enola and Anguis decided they needed a vacation of some sorts. They decided then, that a few nights in Capital Crocus would do the job of relieving them of stress. It seemed fitting since there were a myriad of sights for Enola to see and stores for Anguis to shop at. The idea of following Anguis on a shopping trip seemed like a less painful prospect than it normally would have. The two had gone on so many jobs together that Enola could honestly say she was beginning to accept Anguis less graceful personality flaws. The maid was even beginning to lessen her scornfulness when the lamia’s more scandalous behavior cropped up in public. It seemed, despite their total differences, that the two were actually becoming a cooperative team. Elyx and Ignite would definitely be proud of the strange bond they were building.
Being able to relax for once, the train ride was much easier to enjoy than on previous train rides. Enola could blissfully look out of the window and take in the scenery that had been seemingly nonexistent at previous times. She could even appreciated Anguis’ humor to some extent as she made note of the oddities they passed, including the strange-looking trees and funny herds of animals that the train made its way past. When they weren’t stressing about a job, the train ride seemed to go by much faster, an epitaph to the saying, “Time flies when you’re having fun.” They arrived at the city late that night. The whistle blew out loudly and steam whirled as the the train came to a slow halt in the train station. A great crowd of people – Enola and Anguis included – escaped the train through its tiny doors and left the station with faces of relief painting their faces.
The pair passed by several places they made note of and hoped to visit the next day. There were many statues, eateries, and shopping centers. One store – Chanelle’s – caught Anguis’ attention. The pair had done some modeling for Chanelle’s and the idea of the brand having its own store prompted the lamia to wonder if it sold the same clothes that Enola and Anguis had worn during the photoshoot. Enola, however, did not have such a warm remembrance of the event and instead frowned as she recalled fainting in the outfit put on her after finding out she was going to appear in one of the most famous magazines in a very revealing outfit. Still, the lamia seemed set on visiting the store, forcing Enola to reluctantly agree to visiting the store she dreaded so much. Hopefully, Anguis would forget all about it after a night’s rest.
The two decided to stay at a tavern for the night. Enola tried everything in her power to stop her cousin from getting stinking drunk and surprisingly succeeded. They were in bed by ten in the evening and awoke at seven in the morning. Enola had gone to sleep and awoken much later than she was used to, but those were the perks of being on vacation. After a brief breakfast, the two set off to do some exploring in the city. Enola had made sure to bring her camera with her to snap pictures of historical landmarks. The day seemed almost perfect until Anguis reminded the maid that they were to visit Chanelle’s. Given how good the day was beginning to turn out, Enola set aside her own complaints and put on a smile as she accompanied her cousin to the modeling store they had seen the night before.
Like with every adventure, something went wrong: Rune Knights were found surrounding Chanelle’s in response to some maniac who had taken everyone inside hostage. When one of the older, more senior Rune Knights stepped up to ask if anyone in the crowd was willing to help with negotiations, Anguis almost automatically pushed Enola forward to take up the task. The maid did was her cousin had volunteered for and stepped forward and entered the store to talk with the distressed man. After some rather tense talking, Enola learned that the man had just been fired from his job and wanted to take it out on the store and its workers. Through further prodding, however, it was revealed that the man had heavy dependence on the job to pay for a plethora of things he needed, such as some simple as a house for his children. Knowing the verbal not to play, Enola smoothly talked him down and explained how those dependent on him would not want this.
Fifteen minutes later, Enola and the crazy man were stepping out of the store, with the hostages following behind him. The Rune Knights quickly tackled the man who, at this point, was in tears. The former hostages gave thanks for Enola’s service and surrendered some of their money to her.
Finally, Enola and Anguis could continue their vacation in peace.
