    A Wizard's Grace Empty A Wizard's Grace

Post by Vox Nihili 23rd December 2014, 1:40 pm

Laying in the back of a cart Dederik idly entertained himself by tossing a ball up and down in the air. The cubes of straw acting as a mattress beneath him as he killed off time on the journey to Beanstalk Villiage. “Vey did zey even send me, I’m not a nature mage.” The foreigner thought to himself as his red gaze watched his ball go up and down while a young, yellow bird slept peacefully on his chest. At his side lay a brown suitcase filled with some belongings for missions that required travel. Toothbrush, a few sets of clothing, weapon cleaning kit for his equipment, first aid medical box, map, compass, travel rations, filled waterskin, water purification tablets, and so on. Simply a variety of equipment for in case something went wrong and he had to rely on himself.

Upon feeling the cart come to a stop his hand caught the ball that he had idly been tossing up and down and held it in his hand so that he wouldn’t lose it if the cart suddenly started to move again. How ever upon hearing the sound of the man at the driver’s seat of the cart calling back to him saying that it was time to get out and that they had arrived at Beanstalk village. Sitting up he reached over to pick up his suitcase and slide off of the back of the cart, leaving the bird to fall to the hay and wake up before it flew over to settle on his head of short, white hair.

Making his way through the village Dederik found a place to stay for the night and then went about gathering as much information as he could about what was happening to the crops. When it started, if there was anyone coming or going around the time of it happening, where it started at and so on. After he had gotten everything that he could out of the villagers he retired to the room he had managed to talk someone into renting him during his stay and went to sleep for the night.

    A Wizard's Grace Empty Re: A Wizard's Grace

Post by Vox Nihili 23rd December 2014, 1:41 pm

The next morning Dederik’s eyes slowly opened up to greet the morning sun before the young man pushed himself up and crawled out of bed, going about his standard morning routine of showering, dressing, then eating breakfast before arming himself and making his way out to the crops where it all started. Fifteen minutes into the walk the sound of a cart coming up from behind him drew his red gaze back before he raised a hand to hail it to a stop. After a short conversation of him requesting a ride in the back of the cart Dederik once again climbed in the back of a cart and laid down to relax for the short journey.

When the cart came to a stop and the driver said they had arrived he slipped out of the card and brushed his Prussian blue, rune knight uniform to get rid of the dirt before making his way over towards the withered and thorned crops. “… Vell, zis should be fun.” He said to himself as he heard the cart start to move away, his hands rolling up his sleeves as he started to make his way towards them. As his foot stepped onto the cursed soil his gaze watched as several feet before him the ground rippled and began to crack open as something started to crawl out of it.

His hands quickly lept into action, his left one drawing forth his gun and taking aim to fire two blasts at what appeared to be a demonic broccoli creature emerging while his right hand drew his longsword in preparation for a fight. The blasts hit the monstrosity head on, giving it pause as it bought him enough time to take up a defensive stance before the thing charged at him. Dodging out of the way of the attack he let the creature charge past him, slashing at one of its legs with his sword to cause it to topple to the ground. Turning around the foreigner gave it a second, savage slash across the back and crouched down, impaling its side with the tip of the sword to watch as it stopped moving altogether.

Post by Vox Nihili 23rd December 2014, 1:43 pm

Pulling the sword out of the broccoli’s corpse Dederik rose to glance behind him as the sound of more digging reached his ears, his red gaze watching as what appeared to be a corn stalk sprouted to reveal a new demonic plant creature. As he saw its mouth open up he dived behind the broccoli’s corpse as a rain of corn slammed down where he was and against the demonic creature’s fallen ally. After a moment it stopped as Dederik saw the form of the beast in the air, falling down towards him in a body slam prompting him to roll out of the way just as it slammed down where he once was at and shoot the corn two times at point blank range. Buying the fallen foreign man enough time to continue rolling out of the way before rising up to his feet in order to face the demonic creation.

Watching the corn beast turn its several randomly placed eyes towards him before it rose up and attempted to charge at him, prompting Dederik to drop his gun and grip his sword with both hands to raise it up horizontally. Its tip pointed at the rampaging beast as he steadied his stance in preparation to receive the charge, letting the monstrousity impale itself on the weapon as his feed dug into the ground, stopping the demonic being in its tracks as whatever demonic life that had given birth to it faded away after all the damage it took.

Placing a food on its corpse he gave it a kick, drawing his sword out of it’s body to watch it fall to the ground before crouching down and picking up his gun, holding it in his left hand again. “Two more bullets left before reload… How many more are zere…” He pondered out loud before turning his attention back towards the crop field.

Post by Vox Nihili 23rd December 2014, 1:44 pm

Upon seeing more of the ground begin to rumble Dederik raised his gun to take aim at the soon to be corpse that would litter the ground just like the other two. “Whats dead and red all over? YOUR ASS WHEN I’M DONE WITH YA!” A high pitched voice squealed gleefully from the ground that was shifting to reveal a large tomato.
“Oh… it’s a Tomahto zis time.” Dederik said with the gun staying pointed at the head sized demon, his head tilted to the side. “You look alil orange… Are you feeling alright?” Dederik replied casually, prompting the tomato to fume with anger, growing more orange as it drooled tomato ketchup before yelling back.
“It is tomato you albino dumb ass!” It replied in an angry tone as it seethed with even more anger before going off on a long list of curses and childish insults, prompting Dederik to rest his sword against his leg while throwing in small comments here and there to keep him going. All the while he started to reload his pistol.

“Corpses say ouch.” Dederik suddenly said as he snapped the chamber for his gun closed and took aim as the tomato demon suddenly stopped speaking its rant to reply.

“What is your cu-“ The tomato started to say, its mouth wide open about to hurl its next insult just as Dederik pulled the trigger on the gun. Two twitches of his finger sent two blasts hurling into the things mouth, causing it to explode as he stared calmly at it with a dead pan expression.
“Not even vorth keeping for zee free ketchup.” Dederik commented idly as he reloaded his gun and started to walk deeper into the crop fields. His gaze shifting around to search for more beasts to leap out of the ground and to counter attack them, figuring that he could search into the cause for it later once he secured the area.

    A Wizard's Grace Empty Re: A Wizard's Grace

Post by Vox Nihili 23rd December 2014, 1:44 pm

After a few moments of thought as to how it was best to secure the area Dederik altered his course and started to instead set his sight on clearing it out in rows in order to prevent the likely hood of getting surrounded by just making a beeline into enemy territory. That was assuming of course that these were relatively mindless creations that attacked as soon as he approached, which is what his assumption was considering a much better plan of attack for them would have been to lay in wait until he wondered in to the midst of them and then strike at him from every direction at once.

As he took several steps towards the perimeter the sound of more dirt rustling came to his ears as off to the side he saw another mound begin to crow as something yellow burst through the surface. “.. I hate zese sings already.” Dederik said to himself as he watched the yellow mutant corn demon rise from the grave essentially, its various, bulging eyes decorating its body swirling until they locked onto him. “You are even uglier zan zee last one.” He commented idly.

Watching as it rose to its full height and began to charge him. Lifting the gun he unleashed a blast from the gun with a twitch of his finger, slamming it into the demonic corn beast’s leg to make it topple to the ground. A second blast was sent flying at it, but just barely missed as the corn creature rolled out of the way and opened its mouth for an attack. Before it could however Dederik’s finger had already pulled, sending a third shot flying directly into the beast’s mouth, exploding within to cause it to stop its attack before it even begun. His other hand reached to his side, drawing a throwing knife and sending it flying into its body to finish it off.

Striding towards the latest corpse that he had produced from the demonic ambushers Dederik casually reached down to grip the throwing knife lodged inside of it. Jerking it out he began to wipe the gooepy blood on his pants leg to clean it off before the sound of rustling drew his attention. Turning his gaze over towards the source of the noise he rose up, gripping the knife in one hand while the other rose the gun up to take aim at the shifting ground nearby.  Watching it intently for the first sign of exposed flesh to reveal itself to eliminate it before its blood could stain his clothing.

When that squishy, red tomato flesh just started to burst from the ground Dederik’s lips curved downwards into a frown, as  much as it might be fun verbally fighting the thing back and forth it was among the messiest of the demonic beings he had fought here so far.  With its reveal he pulled the trigger, unleashing another magical blast flying into the tomato’s red flesh before flinging the throwing knife that was in his other hand at it. Causing the metal to sink into its body to finish it off just as it finished bursting through the ground.

“I wonder if these are edible…” Dederik would idly muse to himself as he approached the unmoving corpse of the demonic tomato creature. His hands reloading his weapon while he came to a stop beside where it had collapsed. Reaching down he grasped the knife that has so far earned its keep and jerked it out of the dead body. Choosing to idly hold onto it just in case while keeping his gun in the other hand as he continued further into the fields. It would not be long until once again the ground beneath his feet would squirm and shift as the presence of yet another demonic farm crop would begin to awaken.

Falling down to one knee Dederik’s arm wielding the knife slammed down as the creature beneath him started to raise up, sinking its blade into the demonic body beneath. Using the knife as a handle to keep his position as another broccoli plant demon emerged from beneath. Using his gun he managed to fire one blast into the creature’s back before the violent shaking it did to try and throw him off made him lose the grip on it. Drawing out another knife he began to stab into its back, once, twice, and a third time to finally bring the beast down.

Jerking the knives out of the creatures back Dederik sheathed one while making his way over to the gun, plucking it up where it had fallen down and proceeds to reload it to remained topped off for any future fights. Glancing from side to side he began to make his way further through the corn field to continue the eradication process. “They really aren’t all that intelligent… Or who ever put them here didn’t do a good job of it. Much more effective to wait until the prey was in the center of them all then come out all at once.” Dederik mused to himself while he continued the exploration.

Soon enough another rumbling and shifting of the ground would announce the presence of another demonic plant creature emerging nearby. His gaze shifting to the area that the sound was coming from to see another of the corn demon plants rising up. Raising his gun he let out a shot at the corn demon as it rose up before hurling the knife at it, causing it to sink into the creatures head while it rose up. As the creature staggered undered the sudden attacks Dederik drew a second throwing knife to hurl it towards the creature, finishing it off.

Post by Vox Nihili 24th December 2014, 2:25 pm

Dederik sighed. It was far more uneventful than he had thought it would be, even though one after one he was exterminating the demonic plants things just weren’t as satisfying. They were rather mindless, unskilled creatures. Even though they were strong, they just lacked the knowledge to properly use their strength making it… simple for him. “Good news is… When I do write the report up on this, I can copy and paste a lot of what I am doing.” He mumbled disappointedly to himself while continuing on retrieving the weapons he had used against the latest disappointment.

Just as usual his ears picked up the sound of dirt being shifted and moved as another demonic plant creature started to awaken, causing his arm to reach out to point the gun lazily in the sound’s direction before settling on the patch of dirt moving. As yet another red tomato monster burst from the ground it was met with a pistol blast slamming into his mouth, staggering it for the few moments that would be needed for Dederik to hurl a knife. Slamming the metal blade into the creature’s eye with a second one soon following, sinking into its second eye causing the thing to collapse. “I suppose I could make a game out of it…” He mumbled to himself idly.

Once again approaching the corpse Dederik leaned down to grip the knives, pulling one out with his free hand and the other with the same one. Wiping them both off on his pant legs he slips one back into their container while continuing to hold the other one idly in one hand while the other gripped his gun. Just like before he set off deeper into the fields, listening intently for the give away sign of the plants emerging from the earth.

However unlike before, the next one’s arrival was not announced by a shifting ground, but instead by a combination of a muffled voice screaming out nearby that drew Dederik’s attention towards it, taking notice of a mound of earth rising up to reveal a demonic tomato plant creature. “Heeeeres Johnny!” The creature roared out before spewing forth a torrent of ketchup in his direction. Rolling out of the way Dederik dodged the strike while lifting his gun up, sending a blast towards the creature to blast in its spewing mouth before hurling a knife into its side. Using the opening of the tomato cursing in pain he rushed forward to promptly dropkick into the tomato in its face, knocking it out.

Post by Vox Nihili 25th December 2014, 4:09 am

Getting up from his fallen position Dederik brushed off the dirt from his outfit and approached the dead demonic plant tomato. Reaching down he jerked out the throwing knife to idly clean it off. As much as he would like to switch to a melee based fighting style to make things more difficult for him, he was on a job after all. He had to handle it with as little screw ups as possible, which meant that he had to use the methods that worked the best. Granted, if he was any other mage who relied more on spells themselves the situation would be much more difficult. But for a well trained soldier, the act of physically eliminating these creatures was rather trivial.

A groan of annoyance finally escaped Dederik’s mouth as the sound of yet another creature emerging from the earth met his ears, resulting in his arm raising up to point towards the demonic plant tomato creature. Unleashing another blast of the gun to stun the creature his other arm drew back in the familiar motion of hurling the knife at the creature. As yet another torrent of ketchup was shot towards him he rolled out of the way to throw yet another knife at it, finishing the creature off.

Post by Vox Nihili 25th December 2014, 4:10 am

Most of the field had been explored by now, there were only a few patches left that Dederik had yet to pass over in his initial examination of the area. Retrieving his weapons he once again ensured that everything was prepared for what was to come. His gun held in one hand while the throwing knife in the other. Advancing further through the fields he continued the idle trek of explorations, taking careful steps as quietly as he could to listen for signs of enemies. Once his initial patrol was over he would have to collect samples of the area, record the events of it, and contact the higher ups…. In other words things that might be of more interest to him.

It was only when he was exploring the last small corner of the field that the familiar sound of the ground shifting would reach his ears, causing him to turn around to see a demonic corn plant rise from the earth to unleash a stream of seeds at him. Reflexively he rose his arms to block his face while jumping out of the way, winching as some of them slammed into his arm and side. Rolling on the ground he came to a stop to fire off a blast at the corn’s foot, causing it to stagger just before hurling the throwing knife into one of its eyes. As it flailed from the sudden counter attack Dederik hurled out one other knife to sink into its head, finishing the mutant off.

Standing up Dederik’s hands would begin to brush the dirt off of himself again as he listened for the sounds of any new enemies rustling about nearby. With a roll of his shoulders he approached the new corpse, removing the throwing knives and seeing to it that all the goopey blood that was inside of the mutant plant was properly removed before sheathing them once again. His red gaze would begin to look around the area before proceeding, walking carefully over the last few areas that he had yet to explore before returning to where he had killed the last demonic plant creature. Writing a note he let out a small whistle, signaling his yellow bird to fly over from where it was out on the outskirts and giving it the order to fly off into town so that he could get assistance with the clean up and sample collection. Along with a wagon to transport the corpses and plenty of yard tools to collect information before it would disappear.

Pulling out a small package containing various metal vials he would begin to collect samples from each of the creatures he had eliminated, properly labeling them with the original plant that they had replicated, time of collection, time of death, and location in form of the order that he had killed them.

By the time that he had finished collecting the samples from the first monstrous, vegetable creation that he had defeated initially the sight of a wagon approaching was in sight. Walking over the short, white haired male pulled himself up onto a nearby wooden fence and lazily sat himself down on top of it to await for the wagon’s inevitable arrival.

When the time that the wagon arrived with the assistance Dederik would slip down from his position and gesture for them to come towards him with the supplies. “Begin using rope and measuring the distance between the holes in the ground with each other and with the corners of the field. We will also need to start measuring the width of the hole every inch, along with how deep it is. In the mean time we will be tagging the demonic plant corpses and then carrying them to the wagon for proper storage until the more… intellectually superior workers can help track down the cause of the magic. In the mean time we must gather all the evidence that we can to assist them when that time arises.” Dederik would say in a clear and calm tone of voice as he starts to walk back towards the first scene that they would have to document.
