By leaning and holding himself against his desk, Harrigan barely held himself standing. While everything around was thrown into a chaotic mess. Painting that fell from the wall and brake out of their frame, the small expensive artistic statues were shaken of the desk and broke into pieces. While the desk itself remained on it's place, but trembled so much that the drawers along with all the files in them were shaken out of the wooden construction.

In time the tremor slowly subdued, giving Harrigan the chance to actually stand up straight and look around his office. And by the sight of what was left his general sarcastic mood turned into anger and annoyance. All his collected art, some of them of a few hundred years old laid on the floor in a million broken pieces. All of them beyond the hope of repair.
Seeing that, Harrigan could only ask himself how the rest of the guild looked like.

With a few steps he turned around so that he would face the big arc formed window that overlooked the guilds courtyard. Where some of the mages slowly and confused gathered, hoping if they could see the cause of all this havoc. The courtyard itself wasn't in such a good shape as well, the gate was a wreck as the chain had snapped of holding the gate up. Making sure that it came crashing down on the ground, in the aftermath of that crash the entire steel forged gate was now crooked.
Yet with all the destruction around him, Harrigan had just eye for one thing only. Following the grim mountain skyline Harrigan's eyes had caught a long and thick cloud of black smoke. Or so it seems. Leading all the way back to something that oversaw the entire Spooky Forest.

It was the Raging Volcano, a mountain of fire and ash that every now and then spew out some of it's boiling magma on the earth's surface. However when it did, it's tremors were never so strong that it would reach all the way to the Spooky Forest and beyond.
Knowing this, Harrigan could only come to one single conclusion. That something made this volcano erupt... and that that something had something to do far more worse then what Harrigan and his guild just felt.

'Bring me Aedre...' grunted Harrigan to the nearest guard.

There she stood, hands resting on the railing of the window, white curtains billowing in and out of the room- just like waves travelling in the beloved sea. Sometimes, there was a sharp sound and the wind blew with more strength, causing the curtains to attack the woman with a certain ferocity that got on her nerves ever-so-slightly. However, she held it in and pushed them away with a snap of her hand and continued to stare at the Raging Volcano- speaking of which, had definitely decided to live up to its name today.
It was raging. Perhaps for the first time in decades.
Spewing out ash and magma was a weekly occurrence; but a tremor was certainly not usual.
    Something was amiss.
"Hmmm." The woman named Aedre hummed gently, trying to contemplate a thousand theories in her head at once, theories about what could have brought the discontent of the volcano. There was a conviction within her mind that she knew the answer, but there was no solid evidence to prove it. Not that she needed the proof anyways. Afterall, a volcano trying to activate was surely not going to be traced to someone who sat miles and miles away, right?
Aedre sighed gently, as the mid evening breeze drifted slowly into the room and messed up her hair for the thousandth time of the day. With an annoyed click of her tongue, she let her hand comb through the stark white hair and let it fall behind in neat layers.
A dreaded feeling pressed on her mind, making her pull herself back from the window and take a reluctant seat on the king-sized bed that adorned an entire side of the room's wall. There was a pervading harshness in the empty room today, and an ominous feeling kept rising in the pit of Aedre's mind every now and then, causing her guts to wrench nervously.
She never had the talent to predict the future, but today she felt like she did.
'This is heavily messed up, isn't it?' She questioned within the confines of her mind, as if expecting the answer to be floating in the air around and let a nervous chuckle leave her lips. The woman's eyes searched for a distraction in the slightly trembling room (thanks to the volcano) and fixated themselves on the few picture-frames that hung lazily off the wall. They were jolted left and right due to the tremor of the Volcano, but seemed too securely attached to the wall to actually fall.
'Tch, what now?' Aedre wondered, while letting out a groan of annoyance when she heard the solid raps of knuckle on her door.
"State your business." She commanded, not giving a walking damn that her voice was dried of every ounce of eloquence and charm that it usually possessed.
"Master Harrigan had asked for your presence- up in his office." A man's voice spoke from outside and his message did make the Slayer's eyebrows shoot up by a fraction.
"Fine, I'll be there." She gave a dry reply, while listening to the messenger's steps descend into the darkness of the long corridors of the guild.
With a fleeting glance cast across her room, Aedre picked herself up from her seat.
'Atleast I'll have something to keep my mind occupied now.'

    --------------

It took a only few, bare minutes for the woman to prepare herself for the little meeting, as she had already changed into the usual attire that she wore outside the guild and for most official purposes. An attire with a monochrome color-scheme, accentuated with a golden sash that went around her waist and the black stockings around her legs and hands.

Aedre was of the firm belief that Harrigan probably had some sort of task to hand over to her; for the man was't the type to call people just for mundane chitchat. From past experiences, she had learnt that he only summoned her to the office if he had something of utmost importance on his mind.
And she was glad that he worked in this way.

The woman's hand turned the door-knob of the Guildmaster's room; or more precisely, her Uncle's room. But, then again, all blood relations were out of the window when they came inside the walls of Savage Skull.
"You asked for me, right?" A rhetorical question left out in the air, as her mind was completely void of any and all thoughts that occupied it previously.

It was time for some serious business.

While one of the guards went out to fetch Harrigan's niece, he started to walk around his broken office. However doing so he quickly realized that most of the artistic antiquities were damaged beyond repair. Knowing this Harrigan let him self slide into his chair with a tremendous sigh, and gazed upon his desk. Which was now a chaotic mess of documents and reports, at first it seemed to be yet another impossible task to sort them out. Until something caught his eye.
Just barely visible, sticking out of that entire pile of paper. Were the letters 'wford' which could only meant one thing. It were the last letters of the surname he shared with his own niece.

These were the secret files he had gotten from an unknown girl from Fairy Tail, containing imperative information on his niece and her whereabouts when she had disappeared from their family all those years ago. Yet when Harrigan had read through these documents it had revealed Aedre hadn't just runaway. No instead of that it was something far more sinsiter.
His brother, had shipped off his daughter to an unknown group he was working with, that experimented in the magical output of the human physique, and tried to increase that by any means necessary. Being obsessed by this research Harrigan's brother saw or thought potential in his own daughter, and send her away to undergo the horrific experiments of his rather enigmatic colleagues.

However they never managed to bring out her full potential, or at least thats what was being described in the files. It stated that because she hadn't reached her mature state yet, her body still couldn't handle the tremendous amount of stress that was needed to bring out her hidden power.
But now, several years later she might be ready for it. Or at least she had to be, because the world was changing. And not for the better.

Aconologia's attack on Era, unknown creatures entering our world from the Arcane Realm and even the Volcano's recently outbursts. These were just a small fraction of what was going on lately, the world seemed out of balance, ready to burst into a chaotic mess. Something was going on, and the world resonated to it. So if his niece was ready or not, Harrigan would need her to become stronger. Because in a changing world every weapon, if it was an object or an actual person, was needed.

His chain of thought was being disrupted by a familiar voice, and as he looked up he saw the feminine beauty that was known as Aedre Crawford, his niece and second in command of Savage Skull. She was above the four pillars. An entity on her own.
'Ah yes, I have something I need you to do...'

    OOC:
Allright I've stalled this for to long, so this is already the start of your exam. Right after this your next post will skip forward in time for a bit, taking you along with a squadron of Savage Skull soldiers and several Garm to the foot of the Raging Volcano. You've been asked to check out what is going on, and stop it at all cost necessary.
How the story goes I let mostly up to yourself, however since this is an S rank exam I am going to some extra conditions.

    - In the beginning I need at least a small bit of mentioning of you traveling towards the location
    - keep in account that there are others with you, they don't need to survive, but I need to see interaction and maybe even a captain like character.
    - Upon scouting the Volcano, you will soon realize that there is a rift in the time/space continuum. Or something like that, it allows beings from another dimension to enter our realm. And even disrupt the volcano. This realm maybe something of your own choice, it can be the Arcane Realm, Demonic Realm. Or even a void area between the realms. As long as it's clear that it the rift is causing the commotion.
    - You need to create a situation where you come under a lot of stress, maybe even evaluating your own past to do so. It might trigger emotions she though long gone, anger, wrath, even fear. of death.
    - Word count is 5000 at least. Which may be done in one or several posts.

Good Luck, and I'll see you at the other side.

Post by Felicity 31st October 2014, 2:16 am

The convoy moved forward silently, yet swiftly on its predetermined path- directed straight to the foot of the Raging Volcano; cutting through the smoky air that settled low among the branches of Spooky Forest and the entire area that surrounded the imposing source of lava and magma. Thick bands of sunlight peaked in occasionally from the dense greenery, thus highlighting the five wagons that toddled forth by trying to escape any living creature's notice. The five carriages were probably the best of magical vehicles that money could ever buy- thanks to the wealth amassed by its owner by various nefarious and unspoken deeds.
The wind howled every now and then, rushing past the branches and carrying away the ashy air with it; only to have it settle back within a matter of minutes. However, the occasional gust caused the curtains of the wagons to twist and flap sharply, thus reminding Aedre of the past hour when she was flitting around her own room in the Guild like an aimless bird that wandered out from the route of its migratory kin.
In her case, there was no trusted group that she walked out of, instead it was the calmness and satisfaction that had left her own mind. She had been feeling uneasy; almost queasy.... since a long time now. To be exact, ever since that battle with the Marilith on the Raging Volcano. The white-haired woman had tried hard to find out the answer, spent hours contemplating a reason, only to end up with a fruitless search.
It wasn't very surprising though, for she didn't even know what kind of uneasiness it was; then let alone hoping to find the roots of its origin.
Her lips were pursed together, as her right hand hovered over the chess pieces that were left on the monochrome board and without a moment's hesitation she pushed forth one of the white knights to knock out its darker counterpart. For a fleeting second, the woman's bright-green eyes slid up to the empty seat in front of her and she was reminded; once again, that there was no opponent at the moment. Once again, she was playing against herself.
A funny smile crept up her lips, as she realized that two pairs of eyes were starting to notice how queer she was being.
Just beside her sat one of those nameless, aimless and shameless men of her own guild; staring at the Second-In-Command of his guild for a second and then meeting the eyes of his companion, who sat across him. They spoke almost non-verbally, pondering whether this woman was even sane enough to be let out in the open world; that is, outsides the confines of Savage Skull. The doubt was almost natural, for most of the higher-ranked members of the Guild were blood lusting, insane and not to mention, inhumanely creepy in their own sense. Except for the Guildmaster maybe.
This doubt of theirs was multiplied several times over due to the fact that Aedre was someone that barely came in contact with the members of the Guild. The only ones that knew her were the ones that she considered worthy of her attention and if they didn't... Well, she still kept an eye on them without their own knowledge. A true blue stalker, one could say.
However, in the case of these men; they always remained without a name Aedre's mind. Afterall, she realized that these men were only in the Guild for the sense of belonging somewhere, to grab some easy money with a few petty steals and kills, or just for enjoying the short-winded elation that life in a Dark Guild offered. Besides, they all lacked the extravagant magical abilities that her subjects of interest usually possessed. So, indeed, there was no need to fuss over them or take the trouble of remembering their names when one of the over-excited ones happened to meet her in a dark corridor of the Savage Skull foyer and introduced themselves with great pomp and show. Apparently, they all believed themselves to be individuals that could strike fear in the heart of millions... But little did they know, that any fear they induced was only because of the Guild crest that they carried around on them with substantial pride?
    "...."
Aedre's fingers barely flexed, but the black knight that had just been eliminated by her was surrounded by a small orb of dark water; and slowly uplifted into the air. The orb pulsated for a split second and reduced in size, followed by a crunching sound of ivory and then the dissipation of the liquid into thin air.
A rich powder of ivory flowed down onto the little table, speaking of how a brave knight had been eliminated in war. It hadn't been spared; because mercy didn't exist in the heart of today's player. Both the men noticed this pointless feat and scrunched their eyebrows contemporaneously in confusion. As if on cue, Aedre's magical output increased tremendously, thus casting an ominous atmosphere inside the vehicle and making the two men almost nauseous. This time, somewhere in the back of their mind, they would have been cursing their luck- having to travel with such an enigmatic and pointlessly whimsical woman. They could have settled so well with their fellow men in the carriages that followed their current one.
They could still hear the echoing laughter from those wagons, but here they were, not able to speak a word and also being a subject to the antics of the Second-In-Command.
"You flinch at such a small display of power.... Have either of you ever entered a battlefield?" The voice of Aedre Crawford questioned, while her magical output lowered down in such a way that it was barely noticeable.
Before either of the men could recover or answer her question that was oh-so-evidently laced with mockery, the Slayer smirked and spoke again, "Let that be, are you sure that you're mages?"
Her mocking curiosity darkened the men's faces simultaneously and one of them dared to speak, "We can prove that to you on the battlefield itself, Miss."
Aedre's lips parted, showing a tad bit of surprise at the way the man spoke, "I applaud the confidence you have, I really do... Can't wait to see how it helps you to deal with whatever peril we might face today." She stated, letting her attention go back to the chess-board with a gentle, but somehow hideous smile.
"You don't have to wait anymore! We're at the foot of the Volcano already!" Declared the familiar voice of William; the one who drove the carriage and also the only one who's name Aedre would know throughout the proceedings of this task handed by Harrigan.

The door of all five wagons opened almost simultaneously, as several men started to step out of them; armed and ready- with weapons and their own varied powers as well. Aedre was the last one to step out and as she did so, the first sound that caught her attention; admist the mild chatter among the men of the squadron were heavy, pawed footsteps, similar to a heavy beast's. What more, it wasn't just one, but several and they were speeding at an alarming rate. But this didn't bother her, infact the white-haired woman was glad that the Garm were able to make it in time.
The bloody and horrifying stench of them filled the air around the Raging Volcano and being someone with an enhanced smelling ability, Aedre couldn't help but have a light cringe develop on her facial features, 'So he sent them as well, huh?' She mused within her head, evidently not being aware of the fact that her Uncle was sending more help her way. The thought even concerned her a mite, as she wondered how difficult could this task be; that the man had to send in so many pawns of his.
Saliva and blood drooled off the jaws of the four-legged beasts who appeared from what seemed to be only shadows of a few nearby trees and bushes, causing some of the men to take a couple of steps back, perhaps due to disgust or more likely fear. As she watched the ferocious creatures for a second or two, Aedre just had to admire them. They were certainlly not the most aethetically pleasing beings, but were simply fierce, resonating a sense of raw power from within. She had absolutely no idea where they had come from, or their purpose of serving the guild of Savage Skull, but she knew that the only person who cold bear that horrifying stench without a frown or carry them along with themselves; was Harrigan. With this, she only concluded that their origins had something to with that enigmatic shadow of a man.
Emerald hues slid from the Garm to the man who had travelled along with her in the wagon; the one who had shown the courage of replying to her strange question. Within a split second, her devious mind came up with a beautiful plan and she stepped forward lightly.
Till now, that guy was standing just a few feet in front of her and observing the Garm as well, so when he felt a strong push to his back, he was in for a surprise; resulting in a stumble, a roll along the dirt of the road, ending up with his face planted firmly in the ground.
The man cursed under his breath, as he sat back up Indian-style, only to have one of the Garms staring him straight in the face. The beast's dirty jaws were only a hair apart from his own face, a comfortable distance for the Garm to tear his head apart from the body.
"The Garm, it'll be your opponent. Defeat it and come to me if you have the power... or the guts." Aedre's voice spoke in his ear, as she stooped over low beside his face and glaced into the Garm's eyes; an indication that the creature was being given a free meal today.
The white-haired woman straightened herself up, as the man seemed unable to move a muscle, or speak a word. Probably paralyzed by fear.
In the next second, a sharp kick landed on his back, knocking his face back into the dust- while Aedre's dress fluttered when she took a sharp turn to face the remaining men.
"Time to go." A statement was made and without another word, the Slayer walked past the remaining men and Garm; directing herself to the Raging Volcano.
"... Is she crazy?" A whisper ran among the men, being within her audible range but---- 'Who cares?'

    -----------

It took about some fifteen minutes to actually reach a place that could be called as the foot of the Volcano, since from that position one could see the land elevating itself up and the ashy air getting thicker with each passing minute. Infact, as Aedre turned around she could hear some of the men coughing and witness a few waving their hands infront of their faces to ward of the troublesome atmosphere. It probably had an adverse effect on the Garm too, for the creatures seemed to almost snap their necks everytime they tried moving their heads around hurridely.
"Okay, so---" Aedre had begun to speak, being all ready to instruct the men and the Garm to look around for whatever was lurking around in this place, whatever Harrigan wanted her to get rid off. But the problem was, she was interrupted by a blood-chilling roar that echoed right from the summit of the Volcano; causing the Slayer to turn around and witness a pit-black hole right in the middle of nowhere- right in the sky.
She squinted slightly, as a sharp sliver of light cracked through the darkness; only to end up flashing so brightly that it momentarily blinded everyone standing below it, including the Garm. The light was bright and it carried a pervadingly harsh heat with it, seemingly trying to burn a person's skin off.
Aedre couldn't see, but she could still hear padded thuds bouncing off from the ground, growls of different pitches and the hurried movement of about seven to eight people. Well, she actually figured out the number by the scents; but still the major cause of worry here was... they were living.
The light still hurt her closed eyes and Aedre had shielded it with her arm, as she heard a male speaking, and judging by the tone she figured that it wasn't someone from her little squadron. Afterall, they weren't exactly in the position to ask something as mundane as...

    "News?"
"The best." Another voice had replied, male as well.
"Thought we might be late." Began another voice, this time female.
"We better separate." And another male.

The light ceased and a second later, Aedre opened her eyes painfully- undoubtedly irritated, "What the fuck was all that about?"

Control is the Key Empty Re: Control is the Key

Post by Felicity 9th November 2014, 7:58 pm

Green irises first focused themselves on the summit of the Volcano; the last sighting of the void in the sky, only to realize that it had disappeared without a single trace. Almost instinctively, her tongue clicked itself in disappointment and Aedre caught movement right in front of her- probably a couple of meters away. A dominating and catchy figure of a man, standing tall with a cloak flapping around his knees as strong gusts of wind blew without much obstruction. An extravagant, violet-colored mane was up as a pony-tail on his head- with the last strands reaching as far as his lower back. The same shade of violet adorned his eyes, highlighted ever-so-slightly by the feminine facial features. For a second, Aedre doubted this person's gender.
"Soooooo, you're the one~" The baritone male voice, the one that most women tend to drool over, dripped forth from the man's lips; albeit he barely seemed to part them to speak. There was also an odd playfulness that laced the voice, something that made Aedre cringe almost instantly.
However, now was not the time to showcase contempt; so she ended up raising an eyebrow in question, "I feel an explanation is in order."
Her statement brought forth a funny laughter, followed by a reply, "So is isolation."
Before the Slayer could even contemplate what the man had just said; soft plop sounds caught her attention and the woman turned around instinctively.
    "....."
All the men and the Garm that has accompanied her had disappeared without a whiff and all that was left to be seen was the barren land that marked the disappointing surroundings of the Raging Volcano. Undoubtedly, Aedre was caught for a surprise- but she daren't show it.
"That's an interesting circus trick..." She spoke, while turning around to face the man once again, "....It always fascinated me as a kid."
Something in the climax of her sentence broke the man from inside and the calm expression on his face slid away to give way for mockery, "GOD! YOU JUST BE SO BORING THEN!"
"Excuse me?" Aedre's hands positioned themselves on either side of her body.
"CIRCUSES ARE FUN! NO MATTER HOW OLD YOU ARE!" The man stated ecstatically.
"Probably because there are clowns like you to be seen." A sword appeared in the palm of each hand, one teal and the other one black.
    "WHAAAAAT?!"
"You heard me." The last statement (or so she supposed) and Aedre kicked herself off in the direction of the man, hoping to cut that damn head of his in just two master strokes.
But.... the blades only met a plume of purple smoke, for the man had evaded the attack with some kind of magic- leaving behind only some mist in his wake.
The woman's boots dug into the crackling gravel on the ground, as she regained her position and noticed the guy in her previous position.
"Catch me if you can~" He mocked and stood calmly by tapping his foot lightly on the ground.
Aedre's eyes narrowed while a smirk graced her lips, "Always up for challenges. It'd be fun cutting you to pieces, you moron."
The Slayer shot forth once again, being nothing but a blur of white and golden; booming with confidence when it came to the techniques of her blades. Teal and black metal slashed in a multitude of directions, blessed with speed and precision that might have scared a creature as small and cunning as a fly.... but not this man.
He evaded, dodged, slid with such grace that each failed slash from Aedre's side brought an upsurge of anger within her.
"While we're at this... I must tell you that your men are enjoying some games with miniature Glutty's" The purple-haired freak informed, while he slid on the dusty ground to dodge a horizontal slash that was aimed at his throat.
"Miniature what's?!" Aedre exclaimed, her voice a key higher than normal due to mere surprise.
"Ooooh~ I forgot to tell ya! My bad!" The man said, as he straightened and made a sign for Aedre to stop.
'Gotcha!' Her brain screamed, as she ignored the sign and burst forward to make an attack; firmly believing that she could pull his heart out in a second by siding with a little treachery and attacking.
But, apparently, the man's bag of tricks was far versatile than she could have imagined.... For her entire body stuck in time and froze. As if someone had pressed the pause button on a DVD player.
    "......."
The man smiled feebly at her, while sighing before he proceeded to speak, "You've now made me use the Forbiddens two times now- that's a first."
Aedre badly wanted to ask what in the world Forbiddens were, but she came to the realization that she couldn't open her mouth to speak and even her vocal chord seemed to lack the ability to produce any voice.
"Anyways, the first thing that was in order was the introduction... I COMPLETELY FORGOT TO DO THAT AND I BLAME IT ENTIRELY ON YOU!"
'This guy is so moronic, I might just puke if I could.' Aedre ended up musing within her head, as she listened to the blabbering like a silent spectator.
The man coughed a few times before he spoke once again, "Yeah... Yeah... So, I'm Greed, one of the Seven Generals from the Demonic Realm- called to Fiore for a special purpose that I'm not supposed to tell you about... And... Um... THAT'S ALL!"
A strong gush of breath escaped her chest and Aedre lost all composure as she regained momentum and nearly fell down on the floor, only to be saved of humiliation as Excalibur dug itself into the ground and acted as a firm support.
"Demonic Realm?! Demonic Realm, you say?! I'm not as stupid as you are! Its a land for demons you dumbass- and not clowns like you!" Aedre voiced her annoyance and disbelief, while she felt completely fed up of this man's (who identified himself as Greed) antics.
"Its a mistake you make, my dear. There's so much more to me than what meets the eye or strikes the mind- and for contemplating any of it, you need to take down the other Generals as well. Believe me though--- if you get such negative emotions get in your way, you'll never be able to do that. You have the potential, but lack the understanding to control the same-"
"Ugh! Just shut the hell up!" Aedre broke out, going ahead for an attempt to stab the man in his chest.
But he dodged, with fluidity that rivalled a cat's and moved out of the way with a simple turn.
"You're wrong to think that I know nothing about you, Aedre Crawford-"
The white-haired woman froze once again, but this time without being under the effect of any magic. The fact that Greed knew the last name that she tried to so desperately hide... was enough to paralyze and numb her.
"-The truth is... there's so much that you don't know about yourself."
The guy extended his right arm to his side and within the palm of his hand, appeared a rolled piece of thick and yellowed parchment.
"A letter from your mentor--- or Father, as you call him. The lord of the Seas has a personal message for you."
Aedre bit her bottom lip at this news, it was true that she felt surprised (or would scared be the right word?) right now; for this man knew so much about her... So much that no one was supposed to know about in reality. What more, he had mentioned that he knew things that she didn't and no matter how much Aedre would deny that last bit, she knew that the lapses and blank spaces in the memory of her life had always been her weak point. What if Greed was speaking about those parts?
But... she suppressed it all. That was a positive point about being Aedre Crawford; you could suppress any emotions if you wanted to. Afterall, there was no way that she would be showcasing any weakness in front of an opponent.
"Give it to me." Aedre spoke in a low voice, as she stepped forward and extended her hand for the parchment.
But, boy, she was certainly wrong to think that this twisted man's intentions could be straight in any way.
"Nope, nope!" He stated in a trembling, excited voice and took a step back from Aedre, while teasingly waving the parchment in his hand, "To get this, you need to evoke the Greed in you!"

Aedre sighed, quite deeply infact; as her brain seemed unable to process the antics of this man anymore. This was a major flaw with her; most people in the world were capable of getting on her nerves, especially those who possessed even the tiny bit of the happy-go-lucky attitude. To be honest, the woman was not a people's person- she preferred solitude, with only special and privileged glimpses into the hearts of the very few people she talked with. Once in a conversation with a person, she was a patient listener and the truth was; she still loves being the audience. But, disappointingly, when it come to the battlefield, this attribute of hers disperses like an ordinary plume of smoke.
Hearing the man speak about things she always wished to keep to herself, pained her... or more like, made her feel defeated. This feeling only acted as a catalyst to the swelling anger and annoyance deep within her. Slowly, but surely, the usually calm Aedre was losing her cool.
"What do you mean?" She questioned Greed's previous statement, her voice dull and lacking even a tiny inch of the anger that bubbled inside her. Nothing but a simple tactic to keep the enemy fooled about her emotional conditions.
"This! This is your problem---- you recheck everything, you make up a question when you already know the answer to it. You lack confidence, you lack the ability to look within your own head, Aedre Crawford! Do you know how big of a fool you are?!" Greed exclaimed, is voice loud and boisterous, soon followed by a hearty laughter.
"That expression of yours, that entire posture is nothing but an act! You're feigning it--- making it all up!"
Something cracked within Aedre, nearly exploded.... and she couldn't hold back anymore.
The swords in her hand disappeared into thin air and with a push of her legs against the ground, the woman launched herself forward, aiming to land a shattering punch straight to the man's face.
The attack was sudden, almost surreal... and this time, Greed couldn't evade. The Slayer's knuckle hit with such an impact that anyone nearby could hear cracking of the jaw-bone, maybe even dislodging. But as the guy's face was thrown to one side, Aedre's hand went straight for the parchment in his hand.
    "....."
The flapping noise of paper echoed within her ears, as her attempt was deemed a failure when Greed had already regained and pulled his hand back and jumped a couple of feet in the backward direction.
"That's primarily anger with just an ounce of greed~ But I'm glad to know that my plan is working on you." His baritone voice stated, being laced with glee.
"Get this paper from me Crawford. It shall be a fun game!"
    "Sure."
The only word uttered by the white-haired woman.
"Then let me go over the rules for you~ If you take this paper from me within the next nine hours, I'll accept defeat and let you move forward and do whatever you came for doing here in the first place. You're free to attack me however you'd like. I won't even touch you."
"Doesn't that sound a bit too easy? I won't call it a game." Aedre stated, just being frank about her opinion on this matter.
But her statement only brought forth a carefree chuckle from the guy, "Why don't you give it a try first?"
With a simple nod, the woman paced slowly to on side, beginning to circle Greed- her eyes glinting in the sharp sunlight and speaking of a crude analyzation.
    'He's looking down on me.'
She circled, like an eagle circling its prey far down on the ground; while Greed only watched, with the parchment held firmly in his hand and his lips parted into a curious 'O' shape.
All of a sudden, her body morphed into a jet of water, bursting ahead from Greed's side and trying to grab the parchment from his hand. However, the man took a step back, while Aedre's body transformed back into normal; starting from her hand, right upto her legs. Her feet slid on the ground to stop the momentum from her previous jump and she sent herself in the purple-haired guy's direction once again, this time attacking from the front.
Aedre then used her right hand to snatch the parchment away, followed by her left- but Greed successfully backed away from both. Using her quick forward momentum, the woman set herself into a backflip and tried to kick the man's hand; but failed with that as well. Just as she landed from the flip, she used the throwback of the ground to leap off and grab the man's hand- but Greed leapt infront right past her.
The Slayer turned back, trying to grab the parchment with her left hand, only to have her opponent take a step back once again.
    'Damn, he keeps darting around.'
"What? That's it?" Greed asked aloud, his voice filled with a tone of boast and brag; while he tried some stupid trick of balancing the roll of paper on the bridge of his nose.
    'In that case....'
Aedre turned her footing around, before launching herself infront and then sliding down on the floor; with both her legs kept in the general direction of Greed's feet.
    '.... I'll stop your movement!'
'Thwack' There was a strong sound of clashing limbs, as Aedre's right foot kicked hard into his shin, as she hoped to fracture the tibalis anterior. But.... that certainly didn't happen- for the guy still stood without a single cringe on his face and instead, pain shot through Aedre's attacking leg and she slid forward to end up balancing herself with the help of her other leg and hands.
"Godammit!" She cursed, while standing up and shaking her bruised leg a bit to ward off the pain.
"You didn't hold back with that kick, cause if I were an ordinary person that would have shattered my leg." Greed spoke in a matter-of-factly voice, while Aedre sped forward towards him for another attack.

Trying and trying, that's all that Aedre did for the next hour or two. No doubt, the white-haired woman was slightly exhausted but it seemed like Greed could continue for several hours more. But, no matter how much regret she felt with each failed attempt, the woman was learning more and more about the man's fighting techniques.

'I can't beat him without subterfuge.'
With that thought, Aedre pushed her feet against the ground, launching herself towards the purple-haired man with speed that left a helix of wind behind her.
    "Your attacks are getting boring."
When she was just a foot away from him, Aedre's right leg went up and missed the backing Greed's face just by the width of a hair- but that was not all; for suddenly, something hit the guy hard in his face and he almost lost his footing due to the sharp pain that coursed through his face. As the man opened his previously tight-shut eyes, his face was a blotchy red.
On the other hand, Aedre had landed on the floor.... most peculiarly, missing the boot on her right leg.
"I noticed that you only evaded to a distance that was most necessary---" She spoke mysteriously, as her body morphed into a stream of water and travelled to Greed's blindspot; his back. Before he could even contemplate what was happening, Aedre landed a kick right in the middle of his spine; thus launching the man forward and trying to grab the paper that had flewn out of his hand by now.
But Greed was full of surprises and he definitely wasn't going down easily. As he was falling, the guy used his hand to lift his feet a little higher and kick the roll of paper ahead- so that it would travel infront of him and he could then grab it easily.
But something else hit the paper and carried it much forward than what Greed had anticipated--- another boot.

His face dug deep into the barren soil... He knew that by the time he would get up and try to retaliate, the Slayer would already have her hands on the paper.
'I should have prepared myself for flying boots.'

"You were kicking off your shoes to increase your range--- smart." Greed spoke, standing tall; with his regal, black coat slightly soiled and a gleeful smile glued to his face. He proceeded to adjust the purple tie around his neck, dusting off the dirt on his clothes, while an ethereal projection of a clock appeared right behind his back. For a second, Aedre feared it was another trick; but Greed cleared that thought right away, "No need to worry, it appeared because I lost the bet to you. It reminds me of the limited time that I have on this realm now- that's the way the Seven Generals are programmed."
He turned a glance back to the ticking clock, "I have exactly three minutes remaining, so let me ask you one question... What do you desire? To enlighten you with an example; the last answer I got was 'happiness'."
Aedre chuckled at Greed's words, a sly smile spreading across her face, "What are you? A wish fairy?" With that sarcastic question, she took a pause- letting her mind revel in the glory of her recent victory. But soon, she continued, "The last person must have been really stupid--- I mean, happiness? I would've found a 'truckload of cake' more sensible. But happiness can't be wished for, it shouldn't be."
Her statement seemed to confuse Greed and he didn't refrain from indicating this with his facial expressions.
"You don't get it? Ha! A moment before, I was the stupid one here... You see, the very explanation of being happy is what keeps you from getting happiness. The more you try to will yourself to states of bliss, the more confused you will get- to the point that you won't recognize yourself. People are truly crazy; they keep smiling... trying to be happy, wishing to be the people they want to be. What should truly hit them, truly hit your last opponent is that its always there- happiness. Not in your dreams, your hopes or your wishes, but in the known, the comfortable and the familiar... Oh, and as far as I'm concerned- I don't wish for anything... I simply strive for it."
Her answer brought forth a smile on the purple-haired guy's face, a satisfied and knowing smile; yet a smile that also wanted to impart some last bit of knowledge.
    "What about power?"
    "I work for gaining it."
"But you desire it... You possess some greed for it-  but let me tell you something... Too often, the thing you want the most, is the one thing you can’t have. Desire will leave you heartbroken. It'll wear you out. Desire can wreck your life. But as tough as wanting something can be, the people who suffer the most, are those who don’t know what they want."

A dry gust of wind swept past between both of them with the most incredible timing. The woman was instantly sent into moment of contemplation at Greed's words, while the clock behind him ticked the last handful of times and the purple-haired man simply disappeared like an illusion. Infact, if Aedre wasn't sure about her sanity, this moment could have made her doubt his reality. For a moment, it was hard to believe that any conversation or any challenge took place. But... despite the meaningless doubt, she knew all too well that the words she heard a minute ago couldn't be a figment of her imagination. Afterall, all we imagine about is the things we know about. And surely... Aedre wouldn't have said something like that. To be honest, she wanted to hate the man's words- as an extension of her hate for him, but for some damned reason... Her mind accepted the reality of his words.

'I need to figure out what I really want.'

    CONTROL IS THE KEY

The white-haired woman opened up the piece of parchment in her hand, her mind still trying to reel from the events of a few minutes before- and simply because of that, she wasn't able to even comprehend what was on the paper--- or more like; not on the paper. It was completely blank, with not a single drop of ink marring its yellowish tinge. Despite of that, Aedre's eyes gazed with a blank stare, her face clearly lacking any sort of expression. It was only after a second or two, that she turned the paper and tried to see if there was anything expressed on the back side.
    'Nope.'
Her fingers instinctively crumpled the paper into a small ball and she carelessly disposed it in one of the nearby bushes; then began to walk in a direction from where she could not only hear commotion, but also sense a small amount of magical pressure. Her walk was unstaggering, however her mind felt completely out of control. Not only was she fooled into fighting some idiot and waste her precious time, she was also lured into it with a straight-to-the-face kind of lie. Aedre Crawford wasn't really used to this kind of treatment. Really.

The Slayer's predetermined path was meant to take her to the other side of the volcano- and she was simply walking parallel to its edge, thus trying to avoid any possibility of getting lost in such an uncharted and unknown area. But apparently... she was meant to lose her path. She was meant to experience trouble every single moment of this god-forsaken day.

The surroundings melted in a way similar to a blob of ice-cream from its cone on a hot summer day. It was a slow transition, a bit painful to be a witness of, since it took away the suspense, fear, anxiety and uniqueness of the whole trap. If Aedre had been her usual, sarcastic self right now, she would have clicked her tongue and expressed her disappointment. But she didn't feel that kind of zeal now. It was some sort of an illusion, for the white-haired woman was suddenly standing on the brilliant vantage point of a mountain in... Iceberg, maybe. She felt the cold biting through her skin, her head even surged with a pang of sharp pain due to the sudden drop in temperature. She shut her eyes tightly for just a second; an attempt to ward off the terrible pain. At that very moment, she also felt a magical presence right behind her. She let out an inaudible sigh and turned back to face another person. A fresh face. A bright face.

It was some male, perhaps in his mid-twenties, with ruffled brown hair and calculating grey eyes that had the unnerving I-know-everything kind of look. He wore a crisp, official-looking suit, the same shade as his brilliant hair. This official vibe around him ticked the woman off within a second and were it not for the strange, yet charming smile resting on his lips- she would have attacked without a second thought.

Aedre knew. Knew all too well that he brought trouble.

"Never been to Iceberg before, right?" He questioned, while his smile widened into a toothy grin.
"Just introduce yourself already." Aedre stated, having completely ignored his previous question. For some reason, she could figure out a handful of things about this man at the first glance itself. Surely, he knew a lot more about her than what could be vice versa. So, there was no point in leading herself to a false sense of security that confirmed she was more informed than him; for she simply wasn't. Secondly, he had something to do with Greed for sure- and it was confirmed by the way his aura felt.
His little chuckle followed her question, before he proceeded to finally answer, "Acedia, sometimes referred to as Sloth." His reply even brought forth a glint in his, whose purpose, Aedre couldn't really place anywhere, let alone understand it.
However, the name struck a chord within her head, as her bright-green pupils contracted with the realization, "Don't tell me... The Seven Generals are related to--- let's see, the Seven sins?" Her question wavered in the open air and simply made the glint in Acedia's eyes brighter.
He nodded in reply though, agreeing to the woman's guess- a guess she had based off all the reading that she did. For apparently, the Seven Sins defined the evil and vices within humans; in other words, just gave the dark side new and fancy names. Nothing but an all new concept that will perpetually confuse the one who's want to delve deeper and understand. The time she had happened to learn about this so-called, Seven Sins, she had brushed it off aside casually. It had just been a thing of fascination for her mind for the moment she read it, something to be forgotten after a little while. Who cared about defining the darker side of the alignment spectrum anyways?

But, perhaps, she should have made a thorough research; that might have actually helped her to get rid of these bunch of flies who prided them with the name of the Seven Generals, right? The woman instinctively sighed, having understood by now that she would need to deal with all seven- and that she might just need the entire day, or days to complete this task. Her Uncle had got her into so much trouble--- and that too, without a proper reason.

The woman clicked her tongue against the roof of her mouth, as she brought the palms of her hand together and made a ball of water condense between them. Acedia's pupils nearly dilated, as for a single second, he seemed to lose his composure.
"Already on the offensive, are we?" He questioned playfully, while the surroundings around them melted and changed tortuously. The orb of water pulsated in Aedre's hand and her pupils flitted around the place- only to see the light dimming and the formation of thick, solid walls all around her. It was another illusion, of course, but the problem was that Acedia was no longer to be seen. Instinctively, the orb in her hand dissipated and Aedre straightened, naturally thinking that it was no use to prepare an attack if her opponent couldn't be seen.

It was some sort of a lab, or so it was indicated by the hundreds and thousands of instruments and test tubes that were propped neatly on shelves all around her. Aedre took a single step ahead, her senses on high alert, as she expected the brown-haired man to jump at her at any particular moment. She called upon Elucidator in her right hand just for precautions and started walking in a straight direction, from where she could see a dim, blue light glowing. As she neared, the Slayer could hear the incessant shuffling of feet, as if a person was trying to quickly make their way to a particular destination, but didn't feel at home enough to let their feet make any noise.

She neared the light, while her emerald eyes fell upon a machine of colossal size, which emitted the same blue light that nudged her into this direction. A second later, in the shadow of the machine, she noticed a man, no tall than five feet, who was bent over a table while writing something in a hurry. Aedre's grip on Elucidator tightened at this sight and she was about to question the man and figure out if he was a threat or not.

But, all of a sudden, a loud pounding of fists on wood shook her senses and the woman nearly jumped out of her skin. Well, the downsides of being extra alert, right? She watched the man near the table look back and his eyes actually focusing in her direction. But, the problem was, there was not the slightest amount of surprise etched onto his face. It was almost as if she didn't exist- for he looked right through her. He turned completely and started walking in her direction; which made Aedre position the black sword in an offensive position. She was ready to stab the moment the guy made a wrong move.

However, what happened next rattled her core, for the male passed right through her! He walked and walked in her direction... then, just phased through her as if she was nothing more than thin air. She quickly steered on her heels and followed him, noticing on the way that she couldn't touch anything in that room. Her hand simply passed through any equipment or shelf she touched. Apparently, this illusion was very poorly made. Then again, there was perfection to it in the sense that she could hear the voices, and everything that fell in her range of vision seemed very much real. The illusion only lacked material consistency.

By now, the man had reached a door on the other side of the lab and had opened it--- in the dim, blue light that scattered throughout the room and extended outside the door as well, Aedre could make out the silhouette of an old man and a young toddler that stood by him. The man within the lab bent over the kid and offered a hand, which the child accepted after a brief moment of reluctance. As the kid stepped inside, Aedre could make out that it was a little girl; blonde haired and green eyed. Aedre's eyes slid over to look at the old man who brought her here and she padded a couple of steps ahead to see his face clearly.

'Harland?' The realization shocked the white-haired lady and she nearly lost the grip on her sword. As she stared at the old man whom she identified as her grandfather, she noticed him turning his back on the door and walking away calmly. Without a second thought, the Slayer rushed to follow him, only to have a strong surge of pain sear through her head, while Acedia's voice echoed in her ear-drums, "You cannot experience anything that you haven't experienced before. You can only see what you saw before."

It barely took more than a second for Aedre to contemplate the meaning behind the words that echoed within the confines her head, 'A memory. Its limited to my own experience.' Her mind romped madly, as she settled her vision on the blonde girl who was now being carried by the scientist to the huge machine that emitted the light that lit up the room. She followed them, watching closely- for she had already made her way to the conclusion that the blonde girl was none other than her own, younger self. This whole set up was her own memory. That's the reason it seemed so much more real, despite of there being no material consistency to the world that currently surrounded her. It was her experience... that she had to experience all over again. The agony was tantalizing, considering the fact that Aedre had no recollection of this event. The only thing that confirmed its authenticity was Acedia's words and her own common sense.

The machine was actually a huge sphere, made of transparent, beveled glass. It was suspended in mid air, a couple of feet off the ground, while blue bolts of electricity buzzed inside the glass sphere. A few minutes before, Aedre hadn't given the machine and its presence a single thought; but as she watched her younger self being propped within the glass sphere by the man--- her head began to process if she was going to be harmed or not. She paid better attention to the machine and tried to figure out its working as well.

Its funny how short a human's attention span is. Even mundane things gain importance when we realize that they affect us in some way.

Her younger self sat within the sphere in a fetal position, but, surprisingly, there was no fear or surprise etched on her face. It gave away that this was probably a daily occurrence for her six year old self; perhaps, she already anticipated what happened next. The electricity that was teeming within the sphere now pulsated as an orb right above her head, before it all zoomed into the body of the little girl. However, she didn't hear a scream like she expected to, for the process that her younger self was going through was certainly painful. Pain was the only thing anticipated after being shot by megawatts of lightning, right?

Did it hurt or not? She never got the answer to that question, for the memory of the lab was sucked out into nothingness and she was brought back to the dry, scorching summer day of the Raging Volcano. Before her stood the man responsible for her being the witness of her own memory... A memory that she had forgotten for some reason. The woman shut her eyes tightly for a second, hoping that the pain in her head would collapse quickly, so that she could relinquish a proper hold on the sword and stab it through the heart of this disgusting man.

It was because of him that she reacquainted herself with something horrible. In her opinion, it would've been better if she stayed in the dark; if that memory never resurfaced. Now she knew that she'd be hell bent into finding what happened on that day, or any preceding or successive day. The only thing that Aedre had realized with it was that she was used as a test subject--- or something similar. Whatever it was, it wasn't pleasant. It wasn't fair. It only gave her more reason to hate Harland, to hate the Crawfords; with the only exemption being Harrigan, of course.

"It doesn't matter how tough you are, Aedre. Some memories always leave a scar. They follow you home, they change your life. Some memories mess you up. But, maybe, that's the point. All this pain, the fear, the uncertainty and the rest of the crap. Maybe going through that is what keeps you moving forward. Its what pushes you. Maybe you have to get a little messed up before you can step up." The brown haired man spoke, his voice an earnest tone of advise, while a smile adorned his lips. His words only brought more walls of confusion to descend on the white-haired woman's mind.

"You had me see my own forgotten bit of past so that I could be happy for it?-" She questioned, her words full of spite and anger, "-Guess what? The trick backfired. I'm just pissed." With that, Aedre burst forward, plunging the black sword ahead of her and trying to make it rip Acedia's chest out. She missed when he dodged and felt the temperature around her go down to a chilling extent. She was back in the Iceberg surroundings, "Not only memories... there's illusion in your arsenal too." The woman muttered under her breath, while she tried to figure out where her adversary was. If this kept on happening, there was no way she'd ever land a hit on him.

"Its one of those things people say, you can't move on until you let go of the past. Letting go is the easy part, its the moving on that's painful. So sometimes, we fight it, try and keep things the same. Things can't stay the same though, Aedre. At some point, you have to let go-- and you did that. You let go, but you didn't move on... You just stuck with the the need to avenge... But, move on now, now that you have the chance, because no matter how painful it is, it's the only way you'll grow."

"There's a good reason why they call you Acedia. You're discouragement incarnate." Aedre's spiteful voice replied, as she backhanded the sword and stabbed the sword horizontally to her right side, with her hand completely extended. Just the place where the man had moved to after dodging her first attack. There was a pained grunt to be heard, while the Iceberg vision disappeared and Aedre was once again back in the familiar setting of the Raging Volcano.

"I just figured there would be a crippling weakness to your powerful technique. Especially, when it allowed you to completely conceal your presence. I thought... where does the man go when his victim is experiencing an illusion. The answer is : nowhere. He's right there--- but you won't feel him till you look for him. Its like wadding in the darkness for a candle." The Slayer explained her strategy, as she noticed that Excalibur had already dug within the brunette's stomach and was now sticking out of his back. She pulled the sword out and let the man collapse to the support of his knees. She could already see his body dissipate, knew that she had overcome another one of the Seven Generals... But, there was something she needed to let him know, "Forgive and forget? That's what you meant to say, huh? It's a good advice. But its not very practical. When someone hurts me, I want to hurt them back. When someone wrongs me, I want to be right. Without forgiveness old scores never settle. Old wounds never heal, and the most I can hope for now... is that someday I'll be lucky enough to forget what you reminded me."

The words were spoken, the man had disappeared, leaving the white-haired woman standing right in the middle of nowhere--- surrounded by nothing but a dry piece of land; the only relief being a green patch of bush here or there. She sighed, as the swords in her hand, having served their purpose, disappeared. Right now, her head was a complete mess; she knew she'd need a good damn while to figure all the infromation out. Sit down, collect it all, observe it, sort it and then finally place it all in the right voids. Exactly how one plays with a set of puzzle. Oh, well, life does have much in common with a puzzle, right? You're always uncertain if you're doing it right. Questioning whether you're taking the right step. Wondering if the final picture would be flawless... Wondering if you'll die without regrets.

'Where do I go?' Aedre questioned, as if expecting the answer to float somewhere in the air. This uncertainity, the liquidity of this mission was her biggest problem. She didn't really have a clue about what was going on, it was just beating around the bush, hoping to find a direction, hoping to stumble upon a solid base of the task. The hope was what fueled her feet forward, as the Slayer walked forward, her sight set upon one part that she hadn't yet walked up to. It seemed like the only logical place that anyone would be at, since in the lookout for these strange men, Aedre had nearly spanned the entire surroundings of Raging Volcano.

On that same note, it was worthy of notice that the way leading to that part decended ever-so-slightly. As Aedre proceeded on the dusty, sun-beaten road, she could feel her body tip forward and the stones hitting her feet rolling ahead by a good distance. The way got narrower with every yard though, giving off that vibe of a dead end. However, the fear of a dead end and a goose chase didn't last long in the woman's mind, as she could smell someone's scent lingering in the air, indicating clearly that someone had just passed the trail. A sly smile rolled up her lips, while at the same moment, she came face to face with the entrance of a cave like structure.

On closer inspection of the entrance, Aedre found the walls of the cave to be made of a smooth, black, volcanic glass, that reflected th sunlight from outside to a fair distance in, thus lighting up the path beautifully. However, at some distance, the sunlight came in contact with a soft, emerald light and was successfully overthrown in the scale of strength. The woman squinted a bit, trying to discern the length of the cave, but to no avail. It seemed as if the cave descended downwards as well and thanks to the height at which she stood, she couldn't see a damn thing. Picking up a stone from the ground, Aedre flung it inside the cave with substantial strength, only to hear it dropping to the ground and then roll forward, "Yep, it descends." She concluded in a low whisper, assuring none other than herself with her voice.

Taking slow strides within the cavern, the woman let her fingers graze the glass walls slightly, keeping herself to one side of the way, instead of just walking right into somebody on the other end. There was sufficient ambience for her trained eyes, and within a few minutes of walking she could sense and see that the way was no longer going to be a narrow cave, but was opening into a huge dungeon-like place. This was the place where the green light wavered from, because as she made her way into the roughly-circular area, she noticed the shallow pond in the middle, with a statue erected inside the water--- the statue of a boy and girl, standing side-to-side, their closest hands raised up in the air and holding up a glowing, emerald lacrima together. In the girl's other hand, a longsword was held, while the boy had a bow; and a quiver hanging to his back.

As Aedre walked in the direction of the beautiful piece of art, her boots clacked loudly against the stone floor; the eerie silence played the part of the magnifier. Reaching at a position where she was only a couple of meter away from the works of sculpture, she noticed the faces in the glow of the lacrima. They were an exact replica of each other. The only part that seperated the faces from this uncanny resemblance was the hair, for the girl had this beautifully sculptured hair that ran straight up to her waist.

'Twins.' Aedre mused within her head, as she proceeded to notice the water in the pond, and noticed in a fraction of a second that it was purposefully made there to reflect the light of the lacrima. After all, the hands of the statue were angled in such a way that the water beneath the base of the sculpture would echo the light throughout the cavern. And, of course, one could notice the mesmerizing effect it had on the walls, as the grassy light was played like music by the gentle waves of the water. The woman kneeled down next to the small pond, while dpping her fingers in the water, meaning to create ripples in it and observe its effects on the lighting. However, the moment she gazed up, a sharp pain jabbed her torso.... As if a dagger pierced into her flesh.

The Slayer's pupils dilated in horror when she saw a thin, fish-shaped metal piece sticking out of her stomach. Her immediate response was to pull it out sharply, letting the wound open and the blood seep into the white clothes that she wore. She grunted a bit, noticing that the fish-shaped dagger had a small jaw, out of which several metal teeth stuck out. It wasn't a normal dagger.... It was designed to literally bite into your flesh.

The woman's eyes glanced around the cave in a frantic search of the assailant, but couldn't see a single breathing soul. The only magical signature she could feel was from the fish itself, and that alone spoke that her opponent was as capable as she was. There was no upper-hand. As she stood up to her feet, Aedre grabbed the wound with her left hand, hoping to at least slow down the damned bleeding. However, another sensation of crippling pain caused her to swear under her breath. Her left hand itself; for there was a metal-fish sticking out from her opisthenar, causing her hand to bleed profusely.

'I can't see it coming, or feel its magical aura till the moment it hits me.' She concluded, her eyes still scanning the place for the attacker. However, the blacking out of her eyes shook Aedre inside-out, as she felt her eyes close shut tightly and heard a single heart-beat of hers within her head. Pain coursed through her spine, her left hand and the muscles near her torso were going numb... slowly, but surely.

"Dammit, its poisoned." The white-haired female whispered, as another fish bit into her stomach; the exact same place that it hit before. This time too, she didn't see it coming from any direction. It seemed as if the fishes had no physical form till the moment they tore into her flesh, 'This is bad, I really can't tell where the attacks are coming from.'

A low chuckle, followed by the words, "108 points." It was a male, and the voice was within the confines of Aedre's head. It wasn't clear, but fuzzy and echoing. The woman closed her eyes for a second, feeling the numbness of her body and knowing that she was in a tough spot at the moment.

"You have no idea what's going on? I should tell you that you're hearing my voice in your head and that if you survive long enough, you'll figure out what's happening."

Aedre gritted her teeth in annoyance, just like what anyone would do when they don't get to see the physical form of their opponent and are rather subjected to hideous words and pressure tactics. She lowered her gaze and proceeded to pull out the metal-fish that bit deep into her skin, only in time to notice it dissipating into thin air with nothing but a whiff of green aura. The woman raised an eyebrow, realizing full well that her earlier calculations had been a wee bit wrong.
'They're just a tangible form of magic and not actual weapons... Question is, why can't I sense them? I guess something is triggering them from somewhere else. How else can I be attacked by something I can't see or sense?' Her thoughts resounded within her head, as the woman tried her best to ignore the numbness that spread through her body like a vine creeping up a wall; albeit, with some flashing speed.

    One. Two. Three.
Right shoulder. Right leg. Left leg.
Three more metal fishes lodged themselves into her skin, this time in quick succession and then disappeared into a plume of magical aura. Blood seeped onto the snow-colored clothing of hers, as she felt her knees tremble slightly due to the soreness. It wouldn't be long before she gave in to the lack of senses. The white-haired female knew that if she didn't take some action or find a shelter from these strange attacks, she'd fall prey to the enemy's trap. The poison was taking effect at an alarming rate, and here she was, only trying to figure out the tactics of her enemy.
"This is going well...." The male voice spoke once again, its voice laced with malice and a strange sense of complacency.

Left hand. Right hand. Right foot.
The string of attacks would continue mercilessly, as emerald orbs could do nothing but observe the tangible forms of the fish appear on her wounded skin and then disappear the next second. All that was left was blood and pain, soon to be accompanied by numbness. She could deal with the pain without batting an eyelash.... But what could she possibly do against the potential toxins that worked their effect on her body?
"Well, have you determined anything about these attacks?"
'Three. He can only materialize three fishes at once. After that, the fish will disappear.' Aedre concluded, choosing against the idea of verbalizing her thoughts, a simple tactic that was part of her training process with her foster parent.
'Never let the enemy know what you know about him, so that he's less wary about you.' The baritone voice of the God of the Seas resounded as a chain of memory.
Poseidon.... maybe it the memory of him that drove Aedre's next step, but the woman stumbled closer to the pond in the middle of the cavern and knelt beside it; closing her eyes at a whim and placing her dominant hand in the surprisingly tepid water. The liquid layered up her skin at the first moment of contact, crawling up her arm like a slithering snake and flowing back into the small pond, having attained a bright red color. Aedre's white hair shaded her face into a pitch dark and she was secretly glad that it did- for the lady was stubbornly prideful at heart.... and letting her pain show on her face to this invisible, but all-seeing opponent would crush her very soul.

There was something seriously amiss in the water though, and she sensed it almost instantly. It wasn't healing her wounds like it was supposed to do... Healing, perhaps very bare healing, but healing nonetheless.
"Tch." The Slayer clicked her tongue out of sheer annoyance and anger, opening her eyes to gaze into her reflection in the water, as she pulled her hand out of the pond. The image that met her eye made the woman's breath hitch in her throat, for her skin was no longer the healthy pale that it used to be, but rather a sickly pallid-green. However, that wasn't all- because a thick band of raven-black ran from the middle of her forehead and down her throat.
'What in the world....' She couldn't even complete the thought, as her mind was jerked away at the sight of both her hands. Not only were they bleeding at the spots where the metal-fishes had bit in, they had changed color to the same green as her face. Black bands had coiled around her palms and elbows, and if one were to trace the path of this weird coloring to Aedre's torso, they could see several black bands running from all the directions, right to the center of her solar plexus. On top of these black bands on her torso, there was a circle of blue and red sections.... A Weird resemblance to.... "A dart board."
"BINGO!" The male in her head exclaimed bemusedly, as a fish stuck stright into her left shoulder.
"That's the perfect answer, but the specialty of our power is that figuring it out won't save you..."
'Our? So he's not alone....' Aedre figured, as she pulled out the fish stuck to her skin with a small grunt. The pain was now taking its toll on her body, after all, there's a limit to how much the human body can take.
"... Since my fish darts don't have a physical form until the instance that they pierce your flesh. That fact makes it impossible to block them." The man continued his explanation; while Aedre rose up to her feet.
"Incidentally, your left shoulder is 54 points. I have a dart board that's linked to various parts of your body. For instance, your right elbow is 27 points." The voice stated, as a fish pierced into Aedre's right elbow at that very instance and another one tore into her right hand.
"And your right hand is 18 points.... Now, I'm at 99 points... Hey, what's wrong? I can't hear your screams. Are you already dead? The game's only just begun.... Triple 6! 4! 13!" The number rolled for a little more, as the metal fishes relentlessly pricked into the white-haired woman's body.
"Bravo! That was just magnificent brother~" A female voice now perked into Aedre's head, its high-pitched tune ringing with amusement--- she was but, a silent spectator to the show that her brother put up.
"Mind telling me who that is... Mister... uh? You never introduced yourself like your counterparts, actually." Aedre spoke up, voicing herself as clearly as possible and lacing her words with the grifter-like skills that she possessed. She now had a plan.
A hollow laugh resounded from the male's side, it was as if he wasn't expecting the question at all, but when asked, it only served as amusement for him.
"Pride. The primordial being of the Seven Generals... and this here, is my sister- Lust." He spoke, his tone of voice not betraying his name by the slightest--- it dripped of unjustified boasting.
"Brother, let's give her a bit of an insight of how our power works... She's gonna be dead meat very soon, after all." The sister chirped, earning the trust of her sibling in a second, as he agreed to her notion.
"Well, well, pay attention kiddo. As Lust, I have complete control of your body and so I'm responsible for linking it to the game of darts that my brother is so adept at playing. Until this game ends, even the almighty being cant de-link you."
"And whenever my darts hit the board, our target, which is you, is attacked by the needlefish. And this, is our ultimate power- Needlefish darts!"
"Oh, please. Stop spewing your vanity into my head- nothing's unbeatable." Aedre criticized menacingly, while she felt her knees grow weaker by the second. She'd need to bring her plan into action as soon as possible.
"Of course...." Pride's voice replied, slow and drenched in contemplation, "We do incur some risks like---" He spoke in a dreamy tone, as if about to spill all his deep, dark secrets out without a care.
"---Brother!" Lust shot in, cutting off the man's sentence.
"Hm? Oh, its okay... She's gonna be dead soon, I know that. Might as well help her die a less curious death. Geez, stop worrying so much, sissy... Well, as I was saying, the risk is that if I miss my target.... my sister and I take complete damage. But! That's not happening in the wildest of dreams, for I haven't missed a target in eons." The man mumbled on, while his sister let out an exasperated sigh.
'Being prideful is a sad vice.' Aedre mused in her thoughts, as a smirk graced her lips--- after all, she finally had the upper hand now.
"Hehe, it seems the game is almost over now..." Pride announced, while another metal-fish hit Aedre square in the center of the makeshift dart board on her body.
"... I'll have to admit though, that if she were pleading for her life, it'd be easier for me to focus. Or if she were to give up and beg me to kill her or if she wanted to be a nihilistic hero and said, 'Not a bad way to die.' Those would help motivate me as I toss my darts. But she'll just have to dread her impending death, never knowing when it will end... but only the idea that it is in my hands-- her very life; at my mercy." As he ended his monologue, another fish would hit the right end of the white-haired woman's torso, causing her to lose her footing and fall back on the rough floor. Her breath was getting turning heavy and ragged with each passing minute, and her legs felt near-damn numb. The Slayer wouldn't be surprised if she completely lost control of them. That possibility did seem to be looming in the air. And as if on cue with her thoughts, a piercing pain shot through her left leg, warning that she had been hit once more.
'Damn. This looks pretty bad...' Aedre worked up, while heaving herself up on her elbows and then sitting upright, observing all the blood that had pooled around her body, 'Too much blood-loss, I'm done for. I could actually die here, so no point in saving what's left.'
"Now, then. Its my final turn."
That single sentence sent a course of tingling excitement running through the woman's body, as she assumed a crouched position and extended her right hand on one side; concentrating her magical energy on that bit and trying to strengthen it as much as possible. Her emerald eyes stared swiftly ahead, her eyebrows scrunched up in concentration.
"Left ear. Right calf." Pride announced in merry, while Aedre closed her eyes in pain--- knowing full well that her much-anticipated moment was finally here.
    "Last throw now~"
    "I trust you, brother. Completely."
"I've got this." He stated confidently, while letting the dart sear through the air and hit the board. A counter above it went from 20 points to 0; thus pulling an exclaimation of joy from Pride's sister, as she claimed, "You're the best brother~ I'll go and check on the corpse for you."
    "I'll tag along."

---- Some five minutes later ----

Back in the cavern, Aedre lay sprawled on the floor, a layer of blood pooled on the floor and only one metal-fish sticking uptight on her forehead; and the dart-markings having disappeared from her body. That did signify the end of the game.... and, well, her death.

Two heads emerged out of the water in the pond, their eyes observing the dead target for a second or two; after which, they pulled out completely and strutted towards Aedre, their heads held proud, pleased that they had fulfilled the task handed out by their master.

"We can be squadron leaders now!" Lust exclaimed jubilantly, high-fiving her brother and just as he was about to reciprocate the gesture--- something big swooped in majestically from the entrance of the cavern and landed right behind them with a heavy thud and a sharp flutter of enormous wings. Before they could even look back at their assilant, both of them felt trapped in the clutches of strong, feathery arms. The grip was so strong, the twins would find themselves gasping for a single whiff of air.

"Get up. You're bad at acting anyways." A thick, regal, male voice spoke--- the owner of the wings and the feathery arms and the realization itself caused the siblings to peek a glance above them, since the attacker was evidently a full head and and shoulder taller than them both. Their first vision was of a yellow beak than was pointed below.... "A BIRD?!" They both shouted in unison, thus causing the so-called bird to strengthen his grip around their bodies.

"Don't you dare call me a bird... I'll have your organs spewed on the floor." The bird ordered, as his grip relaxed lightly and the twins were left shivering like a lone leaf on a windy, cold evening.

"Relax, Orel. Take it easy, I knew they were too dumb to figure out if I was actually dead or not." Aedre's muttered, her voice a little weak and much less eloquent than it usually was; but regardless, sufficient enough to draw a collective intake of air from the siblings. The white-haired woman opened her eyes slowly, and pulled herself up in a sitting position- realizing in that second itself that she couldn't actually feel her legs. The needlefish stood upright from her forehead, as she turned to look at the twins and saw them for the very first time after such a long time of interaction.
Both of them were tall and lanky, with bright, pink hair and shrewd-blue eyes, their facial features were sharp and crude, and if it wasn't for the fact that the sister had long hair and a feminine body; they were an exact replica of each other. In fact, they happened to resemble the statues of the twins in the pond.... Which was now, right behind them. They owned the cavern.

"H-How? How can you be alive with a dart sticking out of your brain?!" The male twin questioned, his tone akin to a bewildered shiver; while his eyes dilated to look like two saucers.
Aedre only raised an eyebrow, observing the siblings with a look of disgust, which soon changed into a conceited smirk. The woman placed a firm hand on the needlefish and pulled it out effortlessly, bringing about a small pop! sound to echo around the silence of the cavern, "Its just a small suction cup... I do have to admit that I own the most weird collection of stuff." She explained, while pulling out the suction cup from the tip of the dart and holding it gingerly in her right hand. A second later, it had been de-summoned back into the little collection-box that she had in her cupboard back in Savage Skull.
"No... No... My darts were perfect! Its impossible to stop them!" Pride screamed, shaking his head vigorously.
"Yeah, but I didn't stop it. I just grabbed it, the moment it materialized at my head. From what you were telling, I could say that you could hear my voice, but couldn't see me. I had plenty of time to switch out the needle for a suction cup; just had to break the tip and attach the cup to it."
"H-hold on, no human has reflexes fast enough to catch a dart!"
"Well, it wouldn't have been possible if had I not known where it would appear. But I knew exactly when and where the last dart would hit. The final dart must hit the board's outer ring as per double out rules. And you were playing a 01 - 501 game. You start with 501 points and the goal is to reach 0. These rules are used in professional competitions."
"I n-never told you what rules I was using!"
"As soon as I knew you were playing darts, my suspicions were confirmed. Remember how your first dart hit double four? The game starts by hitting the board's outer ring. A double in.... a sign that you were confident in your abilities. A skilled played would play by official rules. After all, players with talent and confidence tend to seek public recognition. After that, I just had to do the math and endure the pain. I subtracted your points from 501, and waited until your score was under 40. At that point, I placed my hand in the 40-point area, my forehead. That's all it took. And to improve my reflexes... well, I'm a mage, after all." The woman explained nonchalantly, causing the twins to sigh audibly; but of course, not discouraging from asking more questions, "Do you have some history with darts?"
"I mastered the game at age six, learning to count down from 1440 points. It was part of my training."
"Its your fault for getting cocky and talking too much!" Lust reprimanded, while.... 'Maybe I was seven.'
"Pipe down! You just stood around and clapped."
"Shut the hell up. Both of you." Orel ordered, strengthening his grip around both his victims, as his sharp, avian eyes observed the pool of blood that surrounded his master and her vain attempt to stand up, "Lie down, you probably--" And before he would complete that sentence, the white-haired female fell face-down into the cold, wet floor.
