"Pleased to meet you. I'm..."
Name: Enola Gay
Gender: Female
Age: 28
Birthday: 8
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Special Characteristics: The most noticeable disfiguration imprinted on Enola’s body is a burn – a big burn. The burn covers her entire right arm, right shoulder, right breast, and a small portion of the right side of her neck. Her clothing typically conceals the old burns, her neck burn usually being the only visible portion of the burn.
In addition, there are also small scars along both her hands, signs of a rough and daunting life and liken to fisherman’s knuckles. Furthermore, a tattoo of the Inopia emblem (a smiling swordfish) can be found on the left side of her lower torso.
"Let me explain myself..."
Personality: Enola is your typical maid – a sweet and gentle woman who tends to manifest her joy as a modest smile. She needs very little to be happy though; after all, her optimistic outlook on life tends to see the best in everything and everyone. “The house is one fire? At least we have insurance. There are bears outside? The poor things must be starving.” Definitely a glass-half-full type of person. In fact, she comes off as borderline phlegmatic at times as very little disturbs her flaccid yet upbeat disposition. One might think nothing short of a strike to the face would rouse the woman from her idealistic attitude, although that’s not something one would be wise to test. If one were to awaken Enola’s hatred, that person would be met with a demon of a woman, a living epitaph to the phrase, “Hell hath no fury like a woman’s scorn.”
She may not look it from a first glance, but Enola is an arrogant individual. This makes her for a rather difficult person to work with, especially since she’s able pull her stubbornness off with a sweet disposition at the same time. What her companions might believe is best, she might not… and that’s more than enough incentive for her to ignore them. Attempting to dissuade her from a course of action she’s set her mind to is a challenge in of itself; but there are certain ways someone can appeal to her – greed, revealing a conflict of ethics, or just a simple assertion of dominance (if it works for dogs, it might as well work for her).
If there’s a flaw Enola must admit to, it’s her naivety. Perhaps it’s just a side effect of her optimism, but Enola is a painfully easy person to deceive. If someone told her the sky was yellow, she’d be foolish enough to look up and inspect the sky for a yellow tint. Indeed, no one would be wrong to suspect Enola is an ignorant person when it comes to the dangers of others. This is quite an anomaly, especially when one considers her topnotch education and short career as a criminal. That’s not to say her trusting nature is entirely bad. No, it makes her quite a magnetic person to be around, particularly for those with a poor reputation that might otherwise be ostracized. There is, however, one specific group of people Enola is suspicious of – the affluent. Having more than a few bad experiences with the well-off, she tends to keep her guard up around those with wealth.
Enola is prone to shy away from the spotlight, not out of shyness but out of modesty. She was taught from a young age that, as a maid, she should retire herself to the background and only step in when necessary. Granted, she had trouble keeping that idea as a child. To uphold this precept, she’ll often go to the extent of surrendering credit for something she did to someone else, unless it would harm that person of course.
Over the years, Enola has undergone radical shifts in an ethical sense. As a child, she was your typical little angel, free of corruption. As a teenager and young adult, she polarized and became an ardent thief, highwaywoman, and just a plain thug. Recently, she’s toned things down considerably. The concept of theft is no longer impressive to Enola, profanity is a complete turnoff to her, and prospect of beating someone mercilessly is outright vulgar for the woman. In fact, when it comes to unwarranted beatings, she will always intervene without exception. Having broken that ethical code herself before, she has no desire to see its effects on people again.
Vanity is a one-way street for Enola. While she may be indifferent to other peoples’ choice of ensemble, she is very concerned when it comes to her own. “Prim and proper” might as well be her motto. Every morning, she spends an hour assuring her hair’s appearance. Her outfits must all be ironed, her shoes polished, and her glasses gently cleaned with a soft cloth. Should she dirty her uniform when she’s out and about, she’ll either panic and run off to clean herself or bear through it with an intensely high stress level.
A wizard must inevitably go to battle at some point, something Enola has mixed feelings over. She is certainly not a pacifist; her history of spontaneous mistakes is testament to that. Furthermore, she’s very aware that some situations simply can’t be solved with anything less than a fist to the jaw. On the other hand, Enola should not be mistaken for a brute. On the contrary, she is a very lax woman who prefers a softer approach to problems. She isn't lacking in the restraint department either; when she finds herself on the winning side of a battle, tends to take the merciful route, never harming her opponent in excess; that is, if their human. She's prone to having a field down when it comes to bestial opponents, believing humans to be of a natural higher order than animals.
As was stated already, Enola is a stubborn person; and people who’ve witnessed her in battle can attest to this. With an an arrogant approach to fighting, she often has trouble coordinating with teammates on intricate plans, an often frustrating fact for her companions. In a position of leadership, Enola’s not much more extravagant – she prefers the same old “give it your all” approach with perhaps a few tact team choices thrown in to the plan. The stubbornness is just as real for the enemy, who often finds himself or herself forced to beat the woman to a pulp to make her subsist. It should be noted, however, that this arrogance in battle should not be mistaken for bravery. Rather, it’s more of an honest trouble discerning when to surrender.
Likes:
- Candy || Most people like candy for its enchanting sweetness, but Enola is mesmerized by it for its nostalgic properties. Indeed, when she slips a hard piece of candy into her mouth, she subconsciously finds herself in her childhood home, bundled up in her father’s arms and being offered little sweets. It’s a phenomenon similar to when grown men find themselves as children again whenever the smell of their mother’s cooking arises.
- The Under-Privileged || Having fallen on hard times herself, Enola is quick to empathize with those who’ve run into bad luck themselves. Whether they be the poor or discriminated, the under-privileged have a particularly easy time buttering up her.
- Pianos || Enola’s childhood home was often filled by the charming sound of grand piano. She’s grown to associate the noise of any piano with her childhood, much like the taste of candy. Seeing as how she’s never learned to play the piano herself, she’s prone to savoring a pianist’s tune to its utmost potential in the same manner that a hungry man savors chocolate in his mouth.
- Tropical Regions || Growing up on a tropical cove, a girl gets a liking for the climate: the waving of palm trees and gigantic ferns, the lullaby of the ocean’s splashes, and the intoxicating aroma of fruits. She loves the embracing light of the sun, the howls and whines of jungle creatures, and the never-ending green of the vegetation, which is actually where her preference for the color green derives. There're uncountable rocks to collect, hives of bugs to collect, and rough vines to climb. The assets of a tropical regeion are truly numberless to Enola!
Dislikes:
- The Pisa Family || The Pisas are a wealthy family who’ve shaped Enola’s life more than any other group or institution. They were – according to her – responsible for her father’s death, they stole her inheritance, and they even exiled her from her homeland. Without wavering, Enola harbors a seething hatred for them and is determined to have her vengeance on them.
- Uncleanliness || It shouldn’t be any surprise that a maid would have a problem with uncleanliness, especially someone like Enola. She was taught from a young age from her mother (also a maid) to associate dirt and grime with all manors of immorality. Often times, she’ll take a rather extreme initiative to resolve dirty situations. Drop your drink on the floor? Enola will take care of it. Stain on your shirt? Not anymore – Enola’s already at the dry cleaners with it. A piece of lettuce on your teeth? I’d stay away from Enola.
- Laziness || Imitating her mother’s dedication to the job, Enola prides herself on her sound work ethic. That might be why she tends to have such a problem with those unwilling to work. Another partial reason may be the fact that she had such a brutal teacher when she attended school, a teacher who accepted nothing less than 110%. Regardless the reason, one should be careful about being overly idol in Enola’s presence.
- Profanity || Enola had, in her rebellious teenage years, allowed herself to be swept up in a profane culture. Her former behavior set was a testament to this. In recent years, though, she’s begun to look upon profanity with great disdain, partly out of a growing maturity and partly because her role as a maid demands she be against it.
Motivations:
- Justice || Justice is not just a motivator for Enola; it’s her primary motivator. She has seen firsthand how bad things can get when the balance of justice is compromised – it can end in misery, poverty, and even death. It is her dream that she can one day remedy society’s lack of justice. In fact, the whole point of her choice in joining a guild was the hope that she could one day become powerful enough to distribute justice wherever it is needed.
- Greed || This one is partially linked to her desire for justice as well as her past. Having had her father’s fortune stolen from her, Enola feels it’s only natural that she should possess wealth. One the other hand, she was once a criminal and old habits die hard, that habit being greed in this case. Whatever the source of her greed may be, the fact remains that Enola is easily swayed by the prospect of money. Sweet, sweet money!
- Service || The role of a servant is often looked upon poorly as just a place in life people turn to when they’re down on their luck. Not so with Enola – she’s been brought up to obey those above her With pride. Indeed, one who obediently takes their master’s word to heart is viewed highly in Enola’s eyes, including herself. It’s uncommon for her to be complacent without working doggedly for someone else, whether that person be her master, teacher, or simply her friend. Granted there have been many acceptations to her obedience in the past – and likely in the future.
Fears:
- Aquaphboia || The fear of water may come off as odd for someone like Enola whose entire life has been spent in coastal towns, but there’s a myriad of reasoning behind it. For one, her mother would constantly go on about sea monsters hiding in the ocean; her mother was only joking of course, but the fear has stuck with her past childhood. There’s also the feeling of hopelessness whilst submerged in water – one is much slower in the water, one can easily sink, etc. Needless to say, Enola can’t swim nor does she want to learn.
- Prison || Enola might not be a criminal anymore, but that hasn’t erased the possibility of her past catching up to her… and she knows it. She tries tirelessly to hide that regrettable portion of her past from anyone, even her own brother is unaware of what she’s done. Typically if she’s asked what she did for a living X amount of time, she’ll just make something up. Of course, the fact that she’s witnessed her old companions being dragged to prison hasn’t really helped her fear any.
- Failure || Being a bastard child, Enola has grown up with the idea that she must succeed much more regularly than most people. So much so that the prospect of failure is utterly humiliating and terrifying to her at the same time.
"I'm not one to boast, but I look..."
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 158 lb.
Hair: In its best kept condition, the front of Enola’s generic-dark hair can best be described as a long bowl cut evenly across her forehead. The sides of her hair are cut especially short so as to prevent any rogue strands from tickling her ear. The back of her hair, in contrast, is significantly longer when left naturally, reaching down to her lower backside like a waving dark mane. Typically, though, the back of her hair is not left natural but rather, is tied into a pair of plaited pigtails complete with white bands at the ends. The braids at the base of her pigtails are usually left loose enough to allow her pigtails to bounce and swish with the wind whilst the braids near the ends of her pigtails are tied especially tight to prevent any pesky tangling that might otherwise hinder her. By personal taste, her long pigtails are often seen resting on her shoulders and reaching down to her upper stomach.
Eyes: Hazel
Skin Tone: Cold, light skin.
Appearance: With wide check bones and a narrow jawline, Enola’s head shape resembles that of an inverted triangle. Her small, somewhat widened eye sockets are companied by a ferociously large pair of roundish glasses framed by a thin, brittle metal. The white nose pieces of her glasses rest on a short and stubby nose that tends to turn reddish in cold temperatures. Like many of her facial features, her mouth is also narrow, with the lower lip slightly puckered up by default. Enola’s mouth does a fairly decent job appropriately expressing her emotions despite the constant blank yet curious demeanor in her eyes. Her ears, which in her own opinion are her least attractive features, are large and erect, giving them the appearance of pointing upward like a dog’s ears. In contrast, her neck is short and quite breakable looking though often hugged snuggly by the collar of her uniform.
Enola’s usual attire is a typical housemaid’s uniform and arguably the first thing someone will have noticed upon first glance. The body of the uniform is a black dress reaching down to her calves with the arm sleeves stretching to her wrists. The wrists of the uniform are fitted with white cuffs, each lined with two white buttons. She also adorns a white apron with white straps reaching over her shoulders. A matching white sash wraps around her mid-torso and over her apron, forming a large bow in the back. A column of white buttons reaches from the top of her uniform’s collar down to the middle of her torso, perpendicular to her sash. Like a cherry on top, a matching white cap sits atop her head. Aside from the housemaid uniform, Enola also sports several accessories: a pair of white, cleaning gloves along with knee-high socks (also white) and black, porcelain shoes. Most of the time, a white handkerchief can be found in one of the pockets of her dress.
Without exception, Enola will always wear a bolo tie with the Inopia emblem under her maid uniform as it is one of her most prized possessions.
Enola’s figure is that of an hourglass , with the white sash of her uniform accentuating her thin waist and the puffed shoulder pieces giving her regularly gaunt shoulders a more broad appearance. Her breasts are a modest B-cup and usually rest atop her sash and while being held in place by the straps of her apron. Nothing noticeable can be said about her limbs as they’re average in size; in contrast, her constant erect and attentive stance is significant and has become somewhat of a trademark of hers. Juxtaposing her disciplined stance, however, are her arms which to seem to dangle lazily about in a bit of a sloppy manner as she walks.
When the environment calls for a change of outfit, Enola takes a rather conservative – and green – stance. For swimsuit attire, she prefers a green one piece – one big enough to conceal her shoulders, buttocks, and the cleavage of her breasts. Enola’s choice of clothing for bedtime is a long, green and fuzzy robe complete with a matching sash and a pair of slippers. With both her swimsuit and night robe, Enola tends to let her hair down.
For a winter uniform, she wears a bulky, green zip-up coat with connected pockets on the waist and a thick hood on the back of the collar. The cuffs of the wrists and opening of the hood are all lined with small, white plumes. Her green (who would have guessed?) pants are thick yet tight and slip into her large greyish boots and wool socks. On her hands, she wears thin fingerless gloves while, on her face, she wears a dark mask to cover the bottom portion of her face and leaving just enough room for her glasses to rest on the base of her nose. Her hair is also let loose in this uniform but with locks sliding out from her hood and onto her chest rather than down her back.
Having torn her maid uniform on several jobs, Enola has wised up to the idea of wearing a uniform specifically for going on wizard missions. This outfit is particularly special in the fact that it is her old bandit uniform. The attire's top is a sleeveless, button-up white shirt with leafed collar. Unlike her maid uniform, her job uniform will usually have the bolo tie outside the collar, rather than tucked underneath her shirt. The pants are perhaps the most casual thing someone could catch her wearing: a pair of dark jeans with the waist usually pulled up higher than how an average person would wear them, and a brown belt with an Inopia belt buckle holding them up. Reflecting her old bandit mentality, she wears a pair of large dark boots with her pant legs tucked over them. Instead of her usual white gloves, she wears a pair of dark leather gloves. The most significant difference with her job uniform and maid uniform is the way she wears her hair - rather than pigtails, she binds her hair into a low ponytail and lets it hang down her back.
