    Username: DreadAwk
Suggestion Idea Name: Unison Raids need an Overhaul
Suggestion Details: Honestly, it's pretty simple. Unison Raids are... not worth the effort. Hell, there's -one- Unison Raid in the registration thread, and it's a WIP.

I mean, they're not much more powerful than what's going into them right now, so really, all I want to suggest is give the Unison Raid an effective Rank of the subspells used's Ranks added up, x2.

So, for example, a pair of D-Rank spells would have the effective Rank (and power thereof) of a B-Rank spell, even if the two casters can't NORMALLY reach the power of an B-Rank spell.

This does sound a bit overpowered, except... the mages have to be in sync, and be in complete harmony to use it. And not just that, they can only be used once per thread, making a good "OH SHIT" button to help even the odds between lower ranked casters that work well together, against higher ranked casters.

I'm in two minds about this. I completely agree that the unison raids could do with an overhaul, but having that kind of power would require some level of balancing still, such as perhaps additional MP usage (i.e. instead of 10%MP for a D-rank it'd require 15% from each mage).

Also, unison raids should only be made available to those who've been in numerous threads together and built up a good relationship ICly if the above idea were to be brought in, otherwise you'll just have people jumping in making UR's with everyone they job with.

Honestly? That all makes sense. It would require a bond between the two mages involved that, either they were in a lot of threads together, or both went through some major shit together.

Just... something that could show they had the bond necessary. The main point is Unison Raids need to be viable for everyone, and for there to be a REASON for people to get close enough to someone to be able to, potentially, form one.

That last part there is where you are mistaken. "The main point is Unison Raids need to be viable for everyone," specifically this. If you remember correctly the unison raid was something straight out of mythos in Fairy Tail. Unison Raid is rarer then dragon slayer, mages train their whole lives with another person to be able to pull one off. If you don't have a twin who uses magic obtaining Unison Raid is going to be near impossible. We see one Unison Raid and that's one Lucy performs with herself. Of all the close bonds all of the members of Fairy Tail show the only one strong enough for a unison raid is between Lucy and herself. Arguably Sting and Rouge performed a unison raid but it was never called that, but even if it was you see how they fight together they are like one person. Two people who knew each other since childhood and fought together for their entire lives constantly. That is what it takes for a unison raid.

I don't dislike Unison Raids but let's set some properly high requirements here.

Actually, Zuo, we see four, and two of them involve Lucy, though to be fair, one is Anime-only, so is arguable.

    Unison Raids:

So yes, they're rare, same as Dragon Slayers are. But we've seen, what... six of those at least in the course of the series? And half of them are all in Fairy Tail.

But this is all besides my point. When I said that Unison Raids need to be viable? I didn't mean "EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE UNISON RAIDS". What I meant was that people should have a reason to try to develop that kind of bond with someone.

As they are right now, Unison Raids are flashy and pretty and useless so you might as well just make a big flashy spell by yourself.

Legs, go look at my Lineage. You could follow something like this for additional Mana cost.

    Unison Raid Cost Ratio:

Or something like that. And then for spells that are of two different ranks. Just figure out the middle ground cost between the two ranks used for the Unison Raid and then have that be the cost for such a Unison Raid. For Unison Raids that are made using two spells of the same rank have the damage output be equal to two spells of that rank. For those made with say one B-rank spell and then a C-rank or D-rank spell have the damage output be that of a single B-rank and a single C or D-rank spell lumped on top of the B-rank spells damage output.

Zuo, you memory must really really suck. We have seen Unison Raid multiple times.

    Examples:

As such, to say a literal twin is ever required for a unison raid to work is the same as making otherwise baseless conjecture. Especially given that when Lucy did one with Gemini, Gemini is a Celestial Spirit who can completely copy every aspect of the person they have copied. Including their, breathing, reaction times (from what I can tell), and their magic power down to the very last tid bit (has been clearly stated). As such, that is not the same as doing one with a twin, but rather a replication of one's own self.

I'd like to think Unison Raids are there for the story aspect of it. Makes it so much more bad ass when you can combine your attacks to finish a boss together. But that's just me.

Seijin, I get that, and agree with you. However, if a Unison Raid only does damage equal to the rank of one spell and not rank damage equal to both spells, finishing off anything other than an already half dead D-rank Job Boss seems far-fetched, at best.

Unison raids to me work via spell fusion(which is a system already on site).

This allows two mages to combine spells/one mage to combine two of their spells in order to make a more powerful spell. Should that spell exceed their rank it costs a big amount extra MP. If its within their ranks then it is the cost plus a little bit extra.

However, Unison Raids are a bit above spell fusion. They are not just combining two spells, but more combining the very essence of your magic together for a more powerful attack. As such I think because you need to be fully in sync and stuff and has to be registered that they do need a buff of sorts.

A unison raid to me should be the combined rank of the two mages casting it + an extra 50%. So two C ranks cast it together they are doing 1.5B ranks of damage rather than just 1 B rank. The cost? The same as combining two spells via spell fusion, but ignoring the cost for it going above your rank.

Now what if three mages want to get involved with this (as is possible) then its the combined power of all three plus 75%. So if they were all C rank that's 1.5B ranks + 75% = 2.6 B ranks of damage (or 1.3 A ranks). Thats how I'd see it working.

We'd probably need something like 'they have to be in the same faction(guild), they have to have done x amount of missions together and performed x amount of spell fusions' or just have it that the mage who registers it has to prove via linking to threads that they are in sync with the person.
