Setting: Forgotten Desert
Contest: Foot Race, 12 miles.
Rules:
-No Weapons, No Armor, No Magic Items
-Teleportation is forbidden
-No spell with a travel range greater then twenty meters(see specifications)
-Attacking your opponent is not permitted, however attacking them indirectly through use of environment is allowed. (I.E. shooting them in the back is not okay but shooting a cliff to drop an avalanche on them is.)
-Flight in no form is permitted
-No fire spells are permitted
Specifications:
Regarding restrictions on travel spells:
The restriction only applies to spells that specify their limit in distance. Should a travel spell's only restriction be duration it shall be permitted.
Regarding Flight:
Does it let you fly? If yes: No use. If no: Okay
So while the rule will be kept in place IC I will only enforce it if there is visible evidence that it permits flight regardless of OOC knowledge of the spell. But if you sprout wings then we cross into "duh it lets you fly" territory and you can't use it regardless of how you use it.
Regarding Direct Attacks:
Attacking Directly is considered using a spell where it targets the opponent. Spells that do not do damage still do count as attacks. By this definition using a buff spell or a heal on your opponent would count as an attack and cannot be used, just to make a fine point that the target of your spell cannot be your foe regardless of effect.
Now if your opponent is running along the side of a cliff and your spell just so happens to cause an avalanche that crushes them, no problem.
Not even the very edge of an AOE spell can make contact with the opponent, as to prevent cheap shots such as shooting an explosive directly in front of an opponent so that they are caught in the blast but "were not directly hit."

It was a big day for Fiore. For the first time in as long as Simon could remember someone was being challenged in a duel for their wizard saint position. Not once since he walked into the doors of Fairy Tail four years ago had this occurred. Naturally with his luck it was him getting challenged. Regardless he wasn't too upset, as the challenged party he decided the rules of engagement(as long as his opponent would agree to them). Which brought him to the "Forgotten Desert" which would remain forgotten long with all the media coverage this was going to bring in. Simon stood on the starting line, which was a thin stone platform just big enough so that the two contests wouldn't have to stand in the sand while they waited to begin. Looking out it was a seriously grueling day to be in the desert, a harsh summer day with not even a shred of a cloud to be found, the sun beat down like a rock and roll drummer. Simon pitied the spectators, sure they probably had some magic cooling device things but those wouldn't get there far. Simon himself being a fire mage didn't suffer from the heat as much as others but even he felt it hot on his face.
The path ahead didn't look like it would be much kinder, just sand and more sand. Except around the eight mile mark where they would spend two miles running through some ruins which Simon thought was gonna be pretty cool. The starting platform was just wide enough for feet to stand on but long enough for a full track of racers to line up, on either side were wooden bleachers filled with people, fans, news reporters and an occasional historian. Some came to see the smug kid get put in his place by the new hot shot, others came to see the standing "champion" hold his title. Either way just their being there got the phoenix excited, he loved publicity. Part of Simon wanted to be nervous because this Katherine girl had a tough reputation and anyone strong enough to even make a challenge was going be a tough customer. But the other part remembered he could run as fast as four hundred miles per hour with out even casting a spell and he got over it. Speed was his thing both his primary and his secondary boosted it, the second far more then the first but still the extra bit from his primary helped. So with his hands in his pockets, a grin on his face and a really strong desire to find some water in his throat he awaited the arrival of his foe, part of him hoped she was capable of going fast like he could or else it would be a rather boring race. But then the little meek part of him left reminded him to be careful what he wished for as arrogance was a common folly of his.

Rule Amendment: As this is a race I would like to set a rule in place that I forgot to mention in the original agreement of the terms:
1 post = 10 seconds once the race begins.
If Katherine should agree of course.
