    Rules

    Setting: Forgotten Desert
    Contest: Foot Race, 12 miles.
    Rules:
    -No Weapons, No Armor, No Magic Items
    -Teleportation is forbidden
    -No spell with a travel range greater then twenty meters(see specifications)
    -Attacking your opponent is not permitted, however attacking them indirectly through use of environment is allowed. (I.E. shooting them in the back is not okay but shooting a cliff to drop an avalanche on them is.)
    -Flight in no form is permitted
    -No fire spells are permitted

    Specifications:
    Regarding restrictions on travel spells:
    The restriction only applies to spells that specify their limit in distance. Should a travel spell's only restriction be duration it shall be permitted.
    Regarding Flight:
    Does it let you fly? If yes: No use. If no: Okay
    So while the rule will be kept in place IC I will only enforce it if there is visible evidence that it permits flight regardless of OOC knowledge of the spell. But if you sprout wings then we cross into "duh it lets you fly" territory and you can't use it regardless of how you use it.

    Regarding Direct Attacks:
    Attacking Directly is considered using a spell where it targets the opponent. Spells that do not do damage still do count as attacks. By this definition using a buff spell or a heal on your opponent would count as an attack and cannot be used, just to make a fine point that the target of your spell cannot be your foe regardless of effect.

    Now if your opponent is running along the side of a cliff and your spell just so happens to cause an avalanche that crushes them, no problem.

    Not even the very edge of an AOE spell can make contact with the opponent, as to prevent cheap shots such as shooting an explosive directly in front of an opponent so that they are caught in the blast but "were not directly hit."

    As agreed upon by Katherine Wickfield and Kirahunter
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    It was a big day for Fiore. For the first time in as long as Simon could remember someone was being challenged in a duel for their wizard saint position. Not once since he walked into the doors of Fairy Tail four years ago had this occurred. Naturally with his luck it was him getting challenged. Regardless he wasn't too upset, as the challenged party he decided the rules of engagement(as long as his opponent would agree to them). Which brought him to the "Forgotten Desert" which would remain forgotten long with all the media coverage this was going to bring in. Simon stood on the starting line, which was a thin stone platform just big enough so that the two contests wouldn't have to stand in the sand while they waited to begin. Looking out it was a seriously grueling day to be in the desert, a harsh summer day with not even a shred of a cloud to be found, the sun beat down like a rock and roll drummer. Simon pitied the spectators, sure they probably had some magic cooling device things but those wouldn't get there far. Simon himself being a fire mage didn't suffer from the heat as much as others but even he felt it hot on his face.
    The path ahead didn't look like it would be much kinder, just sand and more sand. Except around the eight mile mark where they would spend two miles running through some ruins which Simon thought was gonna be pretty cool. The starting platform was just wide enough for feet to stand on but long enough for a full track of racers to line up, on either side were wooden bleachers filled with people, fans, news reporters and an occasional historian. Some came to see the smug kid get put in his place by the new hot shot, others came to see the standing "champion" hold his title. Either way just their being there got the phoenix excited, he loved publicity. Part of Simon wanted to be nervous because this Katherine girl had a tough reputation and anyone strong enough to even make a challenge was going be a tough customer. But the other part remembered he could run as fast as four hundred miles per hour with out even casting a spell and he got over it. Speed was his thing both his primary and his secondary boosted it, the second far more then the first but still the extra bit from his primary helped. So with his hands in his pockets, a grin on his face and a really strong desire to find some water in his throat he awaited the arrival of his foe, part of him hoped she was capable of going fast like he could or else it would be a rather boring race. But then the little meek part of him left reminded him to be careful what he wished for as arrogance was a common folly of his.
    ~~~~~~~~~

    Rule Amendment: As this is a race I would like to set a rule in place that I forgot to mention in the original agreement of the terms:

    1 post = 10 seconds once the race begins.

    If Katherine should agree of course.

    "Oh this is such a pleasant day. Perfect weather for some Ice Cream. Ooh or a Root Beer Float!"

    The Angel mused happily in the heat wave as she basically danced her way to the location. Enjoying the sun that was up in the air and looking at the horizon in the distance. She was just happy to have the honor to duel a Wizard Saint. She was wearing her typical clothing to go out and her body was that of a Storm Goddess Slayer. Thus she was used to the heat of the desert and the elements that associated with it. Katherine happily hummed a merry little tune as she walked up and looked at all the people that came to watch. This would be amusing, Fiore needed their heroes and as a Wizard Saint Simon was going to be rooted for. Katherine Wickfield however was an unknown. An enigma that came out of nowhere to challenge a Wizard Saint. This would be an anomaly, but she wanted to represent the guild of redemption.

    The Angel of Chaos walked to Simon with a polite smile on her face and a cheerful demeanor about her as she extended her hand to the young man. She simply said, "Hello dear. My name is Katherine Wickfield. Your challenger for this foot race of sorts. Sounds like fun! So what shall be the rules dear and may you give me an idea of the terrain that we have to go through?" She looked at the distance to see the desert sands and several things out in the distance. Were those ruins? Katherine gave a concerned look at Simon, "Are those ruins? So your saying we are going to race through valuable piece of Fioran history and potentially destroy part of it or do you have a plan to make sure this countries heritage is safe."

    Taking another look around for his coming opponent, and maybe a godsend drink of water, Simon caught sight of her. An angelic young woman to say the least dancing through the vibrant sun light of the desert.... Simon wasn't impressed. When he heard Katherine Wickfield he was expecting a real penny dreadful type, but no just another unusually colored hair girl who always looked like they were about to go to a photo shoot. Not that mister purple-hair and blue feather coat was much better himself. Regardless he had been hoping for a change of pace. In response to her greeting Simon grinned and offered his hand "I'm Simon the Phoenix! Nice to meet you. As for terrain it's exactly what it looks like, sand, sand and more sand. Now the ruins you are worried about are nothing to be worried about."

    Glancing over at the distant shape he explained "I wanted to have some terrain for the race so I hired some mages to construct a rough replica of some old world looking faux city sector using some specialized building magic. Then had it completely wreaked, then had some sand mages have their way with the place. I had to wrestle a giant for the funds but I would say it's worth it. Nothing of historical value within at all. The rules are straight forward but detailed. In general no items, no fire magic, no flight, no spells that seem to permit flight, no attacking the other racer and no long range teleportation." Simon pointed out a sign off to the side of the starting line "Exact details over there. But bottom line: 12 miles from here, a perfectly straight line from where the starting line is, is a little platform identical to this one. Magic sensors will indicate who first makes any physical contact with it, touching the platform with magic won't do you any good. But it will detect your foot through your shoe assuming the shoe isn't made of lead." Remembering his own rule and common sense Simon took this time to shed his plus sized phoenix-feather trimmed coat as it was a non-permitted item and was really freaking hot. "Any questions?"

    "Several things, why would lead boots affect the sensors on the platform to start? Why a foot race to decide the title for Wizard Saint? Also would you like a brownie to go with the Ice Tea I got you?"

    Katherine opened her bag of goodies and procured 2 bottles of Iced Tea and a plate of brownies. She also pulled out what seemed to be a sword, pieces of armor, a ring and other magical items that she might carry. This was her small act of kindness considering everything that this tournament stood for, but there was a gleam in Katherine's eyes. This was a game to her, plain and simple. However there was a small need to make the attempt to get a higher position to help people in need. A place of honor was awaiting her if she won, but that was secondary to her primary goal. Katherine took a swig from the cold Iced Tea as she made notes of the sand and the ruins that were there. Formulating plans and strategy.

    "And I feel really dumb for asking you this, but is this because racing is the one thing you are comfortable with? I am afraid that I never heard of you before until a couple of days."

    "Lead is like a universal jammer for sensors of all kinds. I could have spent an extra fifteen thousand jewels to get one that could detect through lead but I figured no one in their right mind would wear lead boots to a foot race so it seemed excessive. You aren't wearing lead boots are you?" Simon really didn't understand the significance of that question as it was a very little thing, but the follow up regarding the race was something he had been anticipating "I understand the purpose is not completely obvious. But it's really quite simple. As a Wizard Saint I am expected to be a hero. Now a lot of people see being a hero as standing up and fighting bad guys but what is more important is saving people. Preventing disasters, minimizing damage when you can't, and saving as many lives as possible." Simon pointed out in the direction of the finish line "That finish line is our crisis. What you do once you get to the scene is important but all the magic power in the world can't save a life already lost. Being the first man on the scene makes you the real hero."

    Inspecting the tea the phoenix shook his head "In short it's a little crisis response thing. Also in a crisis there is no time for tea and brownies. I appreciate the offer but I never eat or drink immediately before a race, got to have at least twenty minutes to sit on it." He tried to not take offense to being offered a brownie, but he managed anyway. Simon associated sweets with small children and greatly hated being compared to one. The real blow was the last question, which was a serious jab at the pride as far as he was concerned "Now I will confess that racing is without a doubt a great skill of mine. But as I explained, speed is critically important. Finding out about a crisis quickly is also important to a fast reaction time but I couldn't device a very great way to make that into a contest. Speed is easy to compare. So are you ready to get this started? The heat is probably killing our spectators."

    "Oh a pity really, I make freshly baked brownies to be a good sportsmanship person. To be fair though I have to disagree in part of what you say. While I do agree it is best to protect the people of Fiore, it would not be decided by a foot race. Wouldn't it be faster if we could fly, teleport or use another method? Running seems like the most inefficient means to get there where you are in danger of obstacles, environment and terrain. Peoples lives are at stake after all and that crisis would have that many seconds to be in danger. So I am saying rules may need a bit of a change to represent what you are saying."

    Katherine chewed on the brownie and took a sip of tea as she though bout what was being said. She raised a single finger up in the air as she thought about the situation a bit. This was utterly rigged for him to win. Not only could she not use any of her magic (As they would all hit kirahunter directly), she needed to improvise. Buy time to come up with unique usage of her magic to push her advantage. In essence she was buying time for herself.

    "I also would like some time to tie up my wings if you do not mind. Reflective instincts and all that. Involuntary actions can be a bit of a pain when no flight rules are given.~"

    Just stall for time...

    OOGC: I just realized.... What do you mean speed spells with only limit being distance?

    OOC: "Only limit being distance" is meant to target spells that say "This spell lets the mage travel x distance." This rule exists as an extension of the no teleporting rule. As there are a million ways to acquire a teleportation like effect without actually teleporting, so spells like "Let's the user travel anywhere in the world in half a second in a way that doesn't count as teleportation." Are out.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Simon shrugged "Maybe running isn't the fastest way to do things. But heads up, I'm called Simon the Phoenix for a reason. I can fly and I like to think I am pretty awesome at it. That rule works in your favor. I can tell you think this is all rigged, growing up in a bad place I'm pretty good at reading people don't deny it, but I'm not without my hindrances. No fire magic means my primary magic out, no flight also impedes me, the no item rule I included to rule out an item that I have that lets me travel at the speed of light. Of course there is also the part where I just want to have a high stakes race, sure I've had to make a mad dash and dealt with time crunches but it was never a head to head race. Chances like these don't come too often." That really covered all the major balancing rules he had put on himself and he was about to go into technicalities of a bunch of tiny things that when twisted around looked like a hindrance to him when he felt heat building behind his eyes. Not the petty little impending heatstroke he was facing, but real heat, the heat of fire. This was a sign he was familiar with and he knew he was about to have an attack.
    Honestly now he was glad Katherine had stalled the start. If they had gone the second he would have wanted the attack would have started halfway into the race and that could have cost Simon his title. Knowing it was coming Simon had a few seconds to brace himself, he gave up on the next part of his sentence as to make it seem he never intended to say any more, he shifted his feet to stabilize his stance and then causally smiled. Then it hit, the patch of intense heat he felt behind his eyes filled his whole body and intensified dramatically. As he had described it in times past it was like the fire inside of him was trying to break free and burn him to ash the whole experience was complete with a splitting head ache. Simon completely froze however thanks to his preparation and move to "act naturally" freezing in place like he did was for the most part completely unnoticeable. Given a few seconds it passed and Simon could move "Yeah go ahead and fix your wings or whatever you have to do. I need a minute anyway."
    OOGC: Won't be able to post until after Xmas most likely. Going to be very slow until the 26 th.
    Katherine listened to the man's long winded explanation to why it was balanced. It was one of the few times where she could think, not really paying attention to a word he was saying as she went to take off her jacket and grabbed her belt to tie her wings down with. She felt wonky and imbalanced in retrospect, but in essence it would have to do. She took a few steps before falling flat on her face. She really wasn't going to enjoy this race in the least. Sighing as she walked it off and heard the last of the conversation, she sensed something was wrong with the boy. She looked at the man and sensed an illness to him, while being such a high profile figure meant she couldn't cure her ailment... She would at least delay the attack.
    Walking up to the man the clouds began to form over Kirahunter as they finally started to drizzle, cooling the desert sand for the first mile of the track. It would however stop any ailments that he was having, but realized it was still a minor intervention. The angels nose began to bleed as she messed with fate, but still smiled.
    "Can't have that happening in middle of the race now can we?"
    Simon was too busy being grateful the attack was over to notice Katherine mostly ignoring everything he said. But he sure did notice the sudden rain and Katherine's apparent noticing of his bout with his condition "How did you notice? What did you do? Is your nose okay?" Simon was on the defensive now. His condition whatever it was needed to be kept under wraps, a Wizard Saint couldn't risk revealing a moment of weakness. He had been told by his magic council contact(the short old guy the magic council uses to keep tabs on the Wizard Saints) that weakness on the part of a Wizard Saint made the whole system look weak. If one were to fall from grace suddenly it would be like a dark guild marching up to Crocus and burning every flag in the city. While it would have little impact on the economic and military power of the Council it would greatly weaken their image and the weakening of the magic council's image meant increased crime rates and bolder moves by dark guilds.
    Originally Simon was not greatly concerned as the attacks were short and infrequent. They still were but even after visiting countless experts medical and magical not even a diagnosis could be made. Bottom line he needed to know how Katherine noticed so that he could prevent it in the future. He also needed to get the race started because he was getting stir crazy "But seriously I would really like to get this show on the road. I've already been here longer then I was planning. Places to be, people to save, monsters twenty times my size to slay."
    "Dear, one notices many things when one pays attention. Let us say that I have ways of knowing that can allow me to prevent things from happening before it actually does. Call it the abiity to look into the chaos of the universe and see all possible outcomes. Like one is you dying in the race from that, but by altering a small amount of fate I can remove outcomes that I don't find desirable. However altering fate has a price and always comes back at you."
    It was actually different than what was actually being told. There was sure a few outcomes of him dying in the sand, but most did not. It was like interpreting a confusing sea of infinite outcomes that could be entailed, all shaped by decisions and outcomes. She smiled as she wiped her nose, the Angelic blood in her was already curing the wounds that were in her. The magic in her body was apparent, but who was to say what she exactly was. Nodding in agreement, she walked to the starting line.
    "Chaos embodies everything dear. Life is chaotic. Magic is chaotic. It is by will of living beings that order is actually implemented. For example if not for the order implemented by your parents or mine. This could have been the bloodlines that we inherited?"
    A small ripple of chaos ensued as she was stepping to the starting line. It was time to race now... Enough time was given for the 2, now it was time to race for glory. To decide which one of them could go home to take the prestigious title of Wizard Saint. Katherine was beggining to get used to wings getting tied by now...
    Simon wasn't sure what to say about Katherine's little chaos speech but his general devil may care attitude provided a response for him "Chaos shmayos. If it has a physical form I can beat it. I may not be able to hit Chaos itself but I can sure as hell break anything it throws at me." Feeling pumped Simon put his hands to the ground and took a runner's stance. He grinned like a hyena spotting a dead antelope and with a glint of purple flashing in his eyes he said "That's enough of that. Go on boom. Let's race!" A pair of fire works shot up from the ground on either side of the starting track and exploded into the sky with a loud boom taking his own signal Simon dashed forward full tilt. Going from 0 to 400 in hardly a second Simon was sight to behold and he was only just getting started. Sand kicked up behind him like nobodies business as he shredded the distance between him and the finish line. However even at this speed 12 miles would take him a little while to transverse and he wasn't going to leave anything to chance.
    Simon just needed a little distance to play his trump card, it was a bit flashy and he didn't want anyone to mistake it for an attack on Katherine. The sand had hardly an impact on his speed as his feet didn't remain in contact long enough for them to sink in at all. This was a factor he had planned for ahead of time when picking what terrain to race on however he doubted it would impact Katherine dramatically either(assuming she was worth competing for the title of Wizard Saint sand would be a petty obstacle). If he really wanted to impede her the race would have been on water with no vehicles as he could run on water without reducing his speed at all. Putting ample distance between himself and the starting line he stopped, his momentum carried him several meters forward but he was able to slide to a stop. He didn't care if Katherine passed him at this point, it wouldn't matter soon. He spread his feet wide and bent his knees "Allow me to teach you all the meaning of god!" A massive golden magic circle spread out on the ground with Simon at it's center, this was the beginning of his ultimate God Leg spell and would serve as Simon's endgame.
    Katherine was amazed at how the race started, the sudden burst of speed that Simon had started and Katherine had to respond by causing her back to bleed and start racing next to him. Katherine stepped immediately ahead of him by Rainbow stepping 50 feet in front of him to not get the wave of sand. She then took off like a bolt of electricity and started to beeline straight for the finish line. The nice thing about a straight race track is that the obstacles were immediately visible in front of her and would allow a straight shot to victory. As she ran at those speeds she started taking damage, her physical body not being able to handle the stress as she ran like she never before. At first it was the open sands and then through the ruins ahead and straight to the finish line. She needed to be almost immediately stopped right at the finish line. She was bleeding, battered, bruised and extremely hurt. However the race was immediately over right where it stand.
    OOGC: Calling it. I won. If 1 post is 10 seconds and my character travels at 110,000 MPH (Halved due to running and not flying). The 6 mile limit was for flying and not running.
    Without acces to the fire spells, you have no range attack to stop Katherine.
    110 000 miles per hour = 0.0327272727 seconds per mile
    Katherine Wickfield is hereby DQ by violating on of the agreed upon rules.
    -No spell with a travel range greater then twenty meters(see specifications)
    -Flight in no form is permitted
    After checking the spell i have determined the it does not grate a boost to running speed just giving flight.
