Job: Strange Vulcans! (Part One)

Job Details:

Leading a one directional trail of footprints deep into the forest, a scruffy blonde haired kid no taller than most of the common foliage that essentially littered the environment of the forest. His eyes were blue, but also sharp and calm. He wore only a jacket today, no shirt underneath simply due to the weather. His bare chest was exposed, and the bandages he had from going about his previous mission alone. His short pants didn't protect him well from the elements, and his boots dug into the sodden dirt with each lonely step he took.

Xavier stopped at a fork in the road, a sign stood marking off the two directions to go from that point forward, and there was no telling quite what lie ahead. Here he waited, as this was the selected rendezvous for him and his partner of whom he had yet to meet. he had no idea what to expect from this person, and he wasn't very excited about waiting in an unfamiliar place for him. Not that he didn't like the forest, he loved the outdoors, this one in particular just isn't one he's explored. he was here investigating a case of Vulcans who were causing alot of trouble to people in nearby civilized areas. He clutched his weapons, two steel hanbo, tightly in his hands. Together they form a bostaff, that almost doubles his height. He was wondering who he'd have to use it on first, the vulcans, or his partner should a problem arise.

Alexei meandered his way through the forest, his sharp eyes looking around for any signs of life. It had been a little while since he'd been through a forest, especially one like this that blocked out most of the sunlight from the trees. He scowled. It was very hot out, causing the God Slayer's Brightshade Cloak to stick to him through sweat; if it weren't for the job he'd agreed to help somebody with, he wouldn't have been here in the first place. Damn him and his need for money...

Blane was dormant at the moment, Alexei having shut off the magic flow to the Light Elemental's book. He'd only recently learned he could do that; Blane had neglected to tell him, likely because he enjoyed tormenting the Slayer. Now that he knew he could, however, he could finally enjoy some peace and quiet...at least until he ran into his partner. He didn't really know anything about his partner; he'd just seen a Help Wanted sign and picked it up, figuring it would be interesting to try out. So here he was, trudging through this furnace of a forest, looking for a person he'd never met before, to kill some stupid Vulcans.

Joy.

Xavier turned to look behind him when he thought he heard the sound of footsteps. He could make out the figure of someone in the distance. Connecting the two ends of the Hanbo, and twisting to lock them into place, he form the full staff, and he impaled the ground with it so it could stand on its own. He waved to Alexei who just appeared to be a redhead, he didn't look particularly wizard like at a first glance, but strapped on his side was a book that looked fairly magical. "Hey over here! Are you my partner?" he shouted to him, the jovial look on his face seemed to lift all of his worries. He was jut grateful to finally have someone he could look to for assistance, instead of having to take a beating on his own. He had to stop thinking like that though. If he ever planned on becoming a wizard saint, he''l end up taking the blows for once. He chastised himself before Alexei got too close. Anticipating an upcoming fight Xavier began charging electricity subconsciously, and the once calm hair on his head stood on end as it sparked between spike of hair, if this weren't a different universe, he would be comparable to a super saiyan.

"Hey over here! Are you my partner?"
Alexei's head slowly turned to face the scrawny, blonde-haired child in front of him. He had an interesting look to him, to say the least; his eyes showed that there was somebody of intelligence behind them, but his attire suggested that he hadn't put much thought into preparing for a humid forest scenario. Granted, Alexei hadn't either, but that was more because he didn't have more than one set of clothes than because he didn't put any thought into it. The other thing that stood out to Alexei was the boy's height; the two were the same height, a very strange occurrence for the young God Slayer. The other boy was probably slightly younger than him, which was even stranger; he almost never had to do a mission with somebody younger than him. This was shaping up to be a strange mission.

Alexei activated his Soul Gaze, using his powers to peer into the other boy's soul as well. His scale was that of a typical do-gooder's; balanced towards good, blah blah blah. His alignment was somewhat boring, honestly; Alexei hoped the other boy would be able to entertain him through his personality. "I believe I am your partner," the Light God Slayer asked softly, his eyes still glowing a faint violet from the Soul Gaze. "My name is Alexei Sarona. What is yours?"

Xavier watched as this boy turned to meet his gaze, Xavier still smiling wide, and then the boy's eyes began to glow purple. He didn't think much of it at first, he's expecting to see weird things in "his line of work" but following that, he could feel a very invasive presence, wash over him. It was as gentle as a breeze, but he could only tell because this wasn't the first time somebody performed something similar to this on him. The first time, it was on that day... when everything turned sour. He suddenly become very depressed, things so easily reminded him of that recently it was getting hard to move on.

The jovial, carefree countenance faded in a few seconds, replaced by a more down-to-earth and observant one. He was on edge now, what ever his partner was doing he already didn't like it, and that was a rather rocky start. His thoughts were clouded with memories of his past, and he didn't hear exactly what his new friend had said, except asking for his name. "Just call me X." he muttered, a little annoyed. He grabbed firm hold of his staff, and tore it from the ground with tenacity. "Something's coming."

"X, huh?" Alexei muttered, smiling slightly. He had used a pseudonym in the past as well, but had since moved beyond that; he no longer cared enough whether or not people knew his name to use a fake name all the time. The other boy also seemed somewhat irritated, which Alexei could sympathize with; both of them seemed wretchedly unprepared for this kind of terrain, and the blonde-haired youth seemed injured as well. Overall, they were in a sorry state, and they hadn't even fought anybody yet.

Suddenly, the other boy tore his strange staff from the ground and muttered something about enemies coming. Alexei tensed up, listening intently; sure enough, something was coming through the forest towards them, its noises clearly audible. Alexei closed his eyes and concentrated. An adult Vulcan suddenly sprung from the foliage, directly behind the young God Slayer, but Alexei was prepared. The Brightshade Cloak turned a bright white as he whirled around and cast the spell he had been preparing. "Shineblades!" A set of four swords comprised of black light suddenly appeared surrounding the Vulcan. Two blades parried the ape's attack, while the other two slashed at its backside; as it fell to the ground and roared, Alexei leapt back to be even with 'X'. "Your turn," he muttered as the light blades moved to protect Alexei.

“Your quick on your feet, I can respect that.” Xavier commented on Alexei’s performance. The Vulcan began to stand back up and he rushed at the beast, positioning his hands at the center of his staff, twirling it through the air, landing five consecutive strikes on its head, and following that up with a jab to the gut, and it staggered, falling on its back. “I’m usually quite a fan of animals, but this jobs demands that I rid this land of your presence.” The Vulcan reeled onto its feet trying to stand once more and fight back as these two seemed to get quite the surprising counter-offensive. It didn’t take the time to regain balance before attempting to pound Xavier with a meaty fist, and fell to its knees just behind him. Xavier placed a hand on jus over the beast’s spine to mark his target, and then with his left, brought down a righteous force. Luckily for him, blows like that from Xavier tend to paralyze his foes, but its fur seemed to cause the electric effect to dissipate, but the blow was enough to bring this thing down. “I’m sorry.” it was hard for him to look at the fallen beast downed even if it did make the first move on them.

Alexei watched the smaller boy bring down the Vulcan the rest of the way, evaluating him for combat readiness. He was certainly better prepared than his last mission partner, who was atrocious at hand to hand combat; the electric-manipulating youth could certainly handle himself in a fight. Speaking of electricity, that was a surprise as well; Alexei hadn't had the pleasure of working alongside a lightning user in the recent past, even when the God Slayer's magic had been more conducive to such a combination.
The Shineblades folded behind Alexei in a nonthreatening way as he walked up to the beast to admire it, standing next to his partner. "That wasn't fun," he muttered, frowning slightly as he inspected the wound. "I was hoping for more of a challenge." He shook his head lightly as he stood up once more, watching the jungle carefully. "That fight will draw more, though." He sat down in the clearing, concentrating before setting up a Flashbang light bomb in a random spot in preparation for the incoming fight. He relaxed his mind; in order to fight at his best, clear thoughts were paramount. As it turned out, the young Light God Slayer's prediction was right, as several loud beasts could be heard approaching from the undergrowth.

From the west, slowly making progress after their fallen brother, two Vulcans of the same size emerged from the dense woods and foliage. From the southeast a Vulcan of a much greater size who appeared to be more muscle bound than the others swung from tree to tree in response to the cry from earlier. And finally, from the North, the direction that both of the boys were walking along this path, came an even bigger foe than that of the last, who also appeared to have a few extra limbs. A spare pair of arms, the better to battle them with that were identical to the other pair. It was hard to tell if he was deformed or simply some magic were at work on him, but no matter what it was they wouldn’t be around to figure it out for long if they couldn’t react quickly. All of their eyes were a heinous shade of red as they encroached on them.

Xavier looked at his partner bewildered at how quickly the danger caught up with them. “If you can keep the big guy distracted, I can handle the other three. Sound good to you?” He found himself clutching his staff with determination, just simply hoping they could pull through with whatever luck they had left.
