Job: The Rarest Flower

Job Requirements: Find the mysterious white flower deep within the Spooky Forest! Minimum of 10 posts. Must defeat at least one batch of monsters. 150 words per post.

Job Location: Spooky Forest

Job Description: The medicinal shop in Magnolia can't seem too pay their workers enough too journey into the Spooky Forest too gather a specific type of flower needed as an ingredient in a powerful medicine. Find it for them! But watch out...something's lurking, stalking, snarling.

Enemies:
Weak: Goblin x3 (Who knows what they're doing, and why they've decided too follow you. But they are not friendly...at all. A few hits should clobber them out for the count though.)

Normal: Wild Pack Wolves x4 (Four wolves have been stalking you...and they've decided you're lunch! Defeat them with at least 2 hits on each one of them! They attack with claws and fangs, each will attack you once each round, roll too block!)

Strong: Lone Wolf (This wolf rolls solo, and that alone should prove how tough he is! He attacks you twice each round on his own. Every so often he'll attempt a pounce attack too pin you too the ground. Roll 3 "Block Die" if he does this. If you roll 2 or more Blocks, you don't get pinned. If you get pinned he bites you for "4 Attack Die", though you can still attempt too block. Take him out with 5 hits!)

Boss: Dire Wolf (This wolf is....huge too be honest. He stands about ten feet, quite big for a wolf, indeed. He'll attempt too run circles around you too confuse you, but stay focused! Every so often he'll dive in for an attempted bite or claw swipe against you. Roll 3 "Attack Die" each time he dives in for an attack! Roll 3 "Block Die" too see if you get away. If you don't block you'll be shredded for C-Ranked damage, be careful! His normal bite attack also deals C-Ranked damage and can truly hurt! Put him down with 10 hits! Good luck!)

Reward: 2000 Jewels

Ni-Ju waived to the driver as he retreated into the distance and hoisted the pack containing his trap gear and shotgun onto his back. Turning back towards the forest that held the object of his search, his first impression of the place was one of great age. A place where the hand of man wasn't welcome and just might get bitten off if extended too long. Shrugging off the chill that accompanied that rather grim thought, Ni-Ju picked a direction at random and headed into the forest. Stepping lightly over a fallen branch, Ni-Ju found himself suddenly ankle deep in the putrid smelling bog mud that made up most of the ground of this part of the forest. Swearing lightly under his breath, Ni-Ju pulled his boots out of the mud and continued on his way forward. As he passed through a small clearing dominated by the lightning struck shell of a hollowed out oak tree, a faint rustling sound echoed from the stand of cypress trees directly to his left.

The thought to roll the monster die slipped my mind thus this separate post for it.

From amongst the shrubbery the bristling grey heads of several wolves made themselves known as they emerged into the edge of the clearing. Eight in number, the wolves seemed the typical fare for a place such as this, small wiry animals only likely to stand and fight if they held a clear advantage over the prey in question. Waiting until the lead wolf had fully edged its way into the clearing with its more timid fellows just behind it, Ni-Ju targeted a small rock a few inches from its right fore paw and unleashed a Macro Earth Detonation.The stone laden forest floor provided ample targets for his spell resulting in a cacophonous chain of earth strewn explosions that rocked the ground and sent bits of debris flying in all directions. Brushing what he was fairly certain was wolf innards from his vest with distaste, Ni-Ju paused to survey the damage he had wrought on the forest in getting rid of the wolves.

The explosions had extended the size of the clearing by about twenty feet and torn all the trees that had inhabited the spot into a fine mulch that that was spread over the whole area. Figuring that no wolf he knew of could possibly survive such devastation, Ni-Ju said a quick prayer for their souls to rest in peace then continued further into the forest. Another solid hour of trekking through the dense brush had him wishing that someone would invent something to wipe out the evil menace known as the mosquito all the while without ever having caught the slightest glimpse of the orchid he had been sent here to collect. He was quickly coming to see why the shop had hired a mage to do this rather then doing it themselves. Well regardless of what he thought of these people they were paying him and that meant he needed to give this mission his best shot.

Kicking it into serious mode, Ni-Ju began searching over each new plot of land he encountered with a new enthusiasm, inch by bare inch in order to find the elusive flower that was the object of this whole gathering trip.One such searched area yielded a plenitude of mushrooms that were rare to find around Hargeon Town that he knew from past experience just so happened to go great in a stew or soup. Gathering up enough for a large potful in a piece of wax cloth, Ni-Ju tucked the delicious little bundle into his pack for when he returned to the mansion later and set off back through the woods at a brisk pace. Ni-Ju was so intent on finding the flower that the sudden appearance of a frightened rabbit running at his feet almost startled him into clearing out another section of the forest not to mention having to change his underwear.

Taking the rabbit as a good sign after thinking it over for a bit, Ni-Ju decided to play it safe safe anyway and unslung the shotgun kept on the side of his pack. As his jaunt through the forest continued, he couldn't help but be glad that he was doing this job alone. The lack of consistent light, the constant sound of swarming insects, and the dangers of quicksand and bog marshes kept this place like something from a horror story and even someone with nerves of steel would be a little twitchy all things considering. Thumbing off the safety on his weapon, Ni-Ju tucked the stock of the shotgun into his right elbow and leveled it at around waist height. If something popped out and got too close he wanted to be able to do more then yell at it to go away while having his face bitten off.

'Monster Dice' :

The piercing howl of a close by forest wolf sent shivers running down his spine and caused an involuntary tightening of his hand around the grip of his shotgun. Scanning through the undergrowth with a practiced eye, an indistinct patch of grey-black sent warning signals flooding through his brain. Acting on a long trained reflex, Ni-Ju leveled his shotgun at the blur and pulled the trigger, unleashing an ounce of solid steel buckshot at the main body of his target. As the shot reached his target, it burst into wet red chunks. Ni-Ju stepped closer to make sure that the deed was done and the creature wasn't left to die in agony. Much to his surprise once turned over it was revealed to be the carcass of a long dead deer. Having chosen the time for its attack very carefully, the wolf jumped out of its hiding place onto Ni-Ju's back and sank its teeth into his left shoulder.

Dropping onto his back and repeatedly lashing out with both elbows, Ni-Ju managed knock its jaws loose and pin the creature between his pack and the ground. Reaching out in desperation for anything to use as a weapon, his hand came across the half buried form of a  softball sized piece of rock. Taking the muck covered stone in hand he brought it down as hard as he could manage on the side of the wolf's  ribs. With each strike the strength of the wolf seemed to ebb away until after nine or ten blows it stopped struggling and faded into unconsciousness. Dropping the bloodied rock and staggering to his feet, Ni-Ju pulled a kerchief from his pocket and bound the wound in his shoulder. With the immediate problem of bleeding out temporarily taken care of, Ni-Ju looked around for his fallen shotgun. Finding it lying covered in mud a few feet away he retrieved his weapon and carefully reslung it on his pack to be cleaned when he possessed the spare time to be able to do so.

After another hour of searching the flower remained as elusive as when he had started and the light had begun to fade, leaving the forest a dark place far more fitting of its namesake. Gathering some dead wood as he walked, Ni-Ju decided to settle down for the night as soon as he could find a defendable enough place. As true night set in, Ni-Ju came across a small clearing where several cedar trees had fallen against a large boulder, forming a kind of three sided barrier of wood and stone. Settling in with the boulder at his back, Ni-Ju arranged his gathered wood into a neat pile and set about making a small fire. As the hours of the night passed, Ni-Ju faded in and out of a fitful sleep, the sounds of things being hunted and eaten echoing through the trees, putting his nerves on edge with each new cry.

As the light of morning dawned, the insistent chirping of birds greeted Ni-Ju's arrival back to consciousness.Rubbing the sleep from his eyes and getting back to his feet, Ni-Ju put out the remains of his fire and took care of a rather urgent bodily function simultaneously by the simple expedient of urinating on the fire. Zipping up his trousers, he took his first solid view of the clearing since he had gotten there the night before. The trees were mostly cedar and ash with a sprinkling of cypresses here and there and the boulder he had spent the night against had actually been covered in a thin set of vines baring bright white little flowers that had probably been dormant at night thus his having missed them when he blundered into the clearing the night before. Staring at the flowers blankly for a moment, Ni-Ju almost slapped himself. A whole night of fatigue could have been avoided if he had been just a bit more observant.

From the open side of the clearing the growls of a pack of wolves of the same size as those he had encountered the day before made their presence known. Unable to use a bigger spell for fear of what it would do to the flowers, Ni-Ju placed his back to the boulder and waited for an opportunity to rear its head. The wolves, far more wary then those he had encountered last time, spread out over the northern edge of the clearing, cutting off any chance for an escape. Getting a sudden flash of inspiration, Ni-Ju pulled a shotgun shell from his pocket and hurled it at the wolves to his left. Willing the steel shot it contained in the shell to explode, he was rewarded with a loud set of yips as two of the wolves were blasted from existence by the force of his micro detonation. Without missing a beat he focused on the air to the side of another wolf's head and let loose another micro detonation. As another three wolves met their end at the hands of his explosions the others thought better of trying against so devastating a foe and fled back into the trees. Gathering a handful of flowers and placing them carefully in the box he had kept in his pack for the purpose, Ni-Ju stopped and took one last look at at the clearing that had sheltered him with a strange sort of fondness. Maybe one day he would come back and build a little house for himself.
