Solo Job : Find Those Puppies! Empty Solo Job : Find Those Puppies!

Post by Tess 6th August 2014, 9:46 pm

    Job Information:
Allison was rather interested to see the owner of the puppies.  After all, they had been beautiful, purebreds, and she was sure that he was very upset.  Allison had chosen this job because once again, she could get to help someone, and once again release even a little bit of suffering in this world!  She beamed brightly at nothing, and skipped up to the owner of the puppies` door.  She knocked twice, very hard and loud, and waited patiently for the door to open.  Eventually, it did, and the door opened just wide enough for Allison to squeeze inside...

Once she had successfully entered the home of the puppies` owner, she was once again directed to a small parlor / living - type room by a maid.  Allison wondered vaguely where the puppies` owner was, but decided that he was probably busy and just finishing up some work or something.  She patiently waited in the parlor room until the door opened and a small, but oddly thin man walked out into the room.

He introduced himself as simply the lost puppies` owner and invited Allison to take a seat on the couch across from him, as well as offering her some water.  She accepted the seat and declined the water, then waited for him to begin his story, or for him to specify more information about the lost puppies` and what she was expected to do.  Right now, Allison did not even know his name, so she was at a loss of what to do besides wait for him to begin speaking.

"First of all, I would like to thank you for coming.  I am not going to tell you my name, but as you can see, I am in a bit of a predicament right now, here.  You see, a new litter of beautiful, new, puppies was just born, yet I accidentally allowed them to escape due to my own foolishness.  A few days ago, I left the door to the pen slightly, just a crack, mind you, open, and yet all of them escaped!  I want you to find all seven of them and retrieve them for me.  This may seem like an easy request, and it is, but they are very mischievous, whether or not they are easy to catch.  If I have not already mentioned it, there are seven of them, and each should be wearing a collar and is a dark golden colour, like honey.  I very much appreciate you doing this for me."

Allison tilted her head in contemplation the entire time the man was talking.  What he had said wasn`t much different from what she had heard, and he hadn`t even had the grace to tell her his name.  However, she was here to help him, and perhaps the poor puppies were suffering, anyways.  After all, she had heard that some of the other villagers were feeding them, and what if they had already taken some in as their own pets?  No, Allison simply had a duty to find these poor little puppies.  She stood up.  "Eclipse Soul is honoured that you chose us for this job.  I will get the puppies back to you safely, do not worry."  Allison beamed at the man, and he nodded and motioned for another servant to come inside to escort her out of his home.

After leaving the man`s home, Allison was at sort of a loss where to begin.  The, she remembered that some of the people around the man`s home had seen the puppies and fed them, so she decided to go ask some of them if they had any idea where the litter of puppies could be.  Allison tilted her head, did 'eeny meeny miney moe', and ended up choosing the house to the left of the owner of the puppies`.  She knocked twice, very hard and very loud, and patiently waited once again for someone to answer.  She half expected no one to answer the door, but eventually the heavy wooden door swung open wide to reveal...  nothing.  Allison tilted her head and blinked her eyes for a moment, wondering if it was just an illusion.  But no, it was true.  There was honestly nothing in front of her.  She shook her head and turned around to walk away when she felt a tug on her skirt.  Allison looked down to see a young girl who looked to be no older than 5 tugging at her skirt with what looked to be as much vehemence as she could muster.

Allison crouched down to the little girl`s level and smiled at her kindly.  "Hi, my name is Allison... what`s your name?"  At first, the girl seemed to terrified to actually respond to her, but after a few moments, she warmed up.  "M-my name is Lia...  Are y-you looking for my mommy and daddy?"  The girl seemed positively frightened of Allison still, but she reassured Lia that she wasn`t looking for her parents.  Mentally, Allison corrected herself, Well, at least not before I see whether or not you fed the puppies...  Allison and Lia chatted for a little while about random things as Allison tried to get her to talk about dogs and puppies.  Eventually the subject turned to cats.

"I`ve had a pink kitty cat for as long as I remember, as she is special, a magical kitty."  Allison laughed and smiled warmly at the girl.  Dang it, I need to get her to think about puppies, thought Allison hurriedly.  So she said, "Do you have a pet, Lia?  Any dogs, cats, kittens, or puppies?"  Mentally, Allison crossed her fingers and hoped that it was enough to get Lia to say something about the golden litter of puppies, if it turned out that she had seen them.

Lia replied exactly as Allison had hoped.  "Well, my family doesn`t have any dogs or cats, since my mommy is allergic to both of them.  But some puppies came around to our house a few days ago, and they were really cute!  There were two of them, and I named them Gia and Mia, to rhyme with my names!"  The little girl giggled and then said, "They were really pretty, and had silky fur.  I wonder where they are now?  I thought I saw them heading over to Mrs. Markowitz`s house when they left our place..."  Allison silently thanked the gods and patted the girl`s head.  "Thank you so very much, Lia.  I hope I see you again later, I`m actually searching for these missing puppies that you`re talking about!"  And with that, Allison leaped up and marched away to the house across the street, after inquiring to Lia which home belonged to the Mrs. Markowitz that she had mentioned.

Allison walked confidently up the steps of the house across the street, the one that Lia had specified belonged to Mrs. Markowitz.  The stone steps felt much larger and much more menacing than Allison supposed they actually were, and she wasn`t sure why she was so nervous.  After all, she was only coming to inquire about some mischievous golden puppies that had wandered off and escaped from their owner`s pen.  But nonetheless, Allison was apprehensive about her to - be encounter with the owner of home whose door she was approaching.

Eventually, after what seemed like an eternity, Allison reached the front doorstep of the woman`s house.  She took a deep breath, lifted up her first to knock, and brought it down sharply on-  nothing?  Allison`s hand flew wildly through the air as the door was opened precisely the moment Allison tried to knock on it, and she grabbed the door`s frame to avoid plunging forward, carried by her arm`s momentum.  After regaining her balance she stood up straight, brushed her skirt flat, and looked up into a stranger`s eyes.  It was an older woman in what appeared to be her late forties to early fifties, and she had a stern set of her brow.  Allison immediately got the impression that this woman was highly intelligent and highly successful in whatever her business was.  She straightened up and said, "Mrs. Markowitz?  Hi, I`m Allison, a member of Eclipse Soul, a mages` guild.  I want to ask you a few questions pertaining to one of my job requests..."

After declaring why she was here, Allison was invited inside without another word.  She was directed to another parlor / living - type room, and once again offered some water.  Allison declined, as usual, and once again waited for Mrs. Markowitz to begin speaking.  "Now, before I say anything, let`s get something straight, you and I."  Allison nodded, and the woman continued to speak.  "If any one asks you where you heard all of this, it wasn`t me.  I have a reputation to keep up, after all, but I will assist you with your job as much as possible.  Now, I also need to tell you that I knew that that litter of puppies belonged to the cranky man down the street.  I didn`t say anything to him, since only a few of them appeared at my door, begging for food, but I expect that`s why you`re here, right?"

Allison tilted her head and nodded to the woman with a curious look in her eyes.  She had already correctly guessed why Allison was here.  And she appeared to know the man that had requested for Allison to take the job.  Hmm, thought Allison, Perhaps I will get more information than I planned.  This is a good thing.  She waited patiently for the woman to continue.  "No one in this neighbourhood that knows the resident of that house would doubt that he would hire a mage or mages` guild to search for any lost belongings of his.  Be it servants, animals, anything.  The puppies are of course, no exception, and he knows that none of us would steal a single thing from him."

The woman then went on to explain how she had found four of the puppies at her house a few days ago.  "I fed them some dog food left over from when I kept one as a pet, before.  I know that it`s unhealthy to feed them human food, after all, and they weren`t mine.  They didn`t even have a collar or anything on them, so it wasn`t as though it would have been obvious to anyone where they came from.  Either way, you don`t need to know the whole story.  There are the four of them still penned up in my backyard, so I`ll keep them for you until you find the other ones, alright?"  Allison was overjoyed.  Half of her work had basically already been done for her, and she beamed at the woman.  "I appreciate it very much, Mrs. Markowitz.  Thank you!"  Allison smiled at the woman once more, then was dismissed and left the house feeling very refreshed and positive.  Now, all she had to do was find the other three puppies, and her job would be over and done with.  Allison would be free to find another job and to get back to the guild hall of Eclipse Soul.

After leaving Mrs. Markowitz`s home, she ventured farther down the road, towards a beautiful park / picnic type area that seemed like a plausible place for the puppies to be.  As she was practically skipping down the lane, she noticed a flash of dark, golden fur, behind a clump of bushes inside the park area.  Allison immediately broke into a run and headed directly for the area where she had seen the fur.  Once she finally reached the area, she was panting, out of breath, and the puppies were no where to be seen.  Allison rolled her eyes, supposing that it had been either her mind playing tricks on her or she had been too slow to catch the mischievous puppy that had decided to tease her by revealing itself for one moment.  Allison slumped down on a nearby park bench only to have a small, beautiful golden puppy saunter up to her with a casual wag of its tail!

Allison immediately regained her energy and crouched next to it on the ground, reaching out a tentative hand to pet it on the head.  However, when her hand was less than an inch away from it`s fur, it sprang forward and away and disappeared in a flash.  Allison sighed and tilted her head in contemplation.  She closed her eyes and sat down again, listening carefully for any sounds... there!  She had heard something unnatural in the brush beside her, she was sure of it.  Allison leaped up faster than the puppy could move and tackled the bush... and came up with a glimmering, beautiful golden puppy, squirming in her hands!

She gently petted it and whispered soothingly to it, and after a few minutes, it reacted to her perfectly fine!  She took a small dog biscuit out of her coat pocket that Mrs. Markowitz had given her to use as bait, broke off a piece, and gave it to the puppy.  The effect was immediate; she was now, in effect, the new best friend of the puppy.  It pranced around her and followed her wherever she went, and she was secure in knowing that it would not leave her side now.  Allison smiled, scratched it behind the ears, and decided to wander over to the play ground part of the park in search of the two remaining puppies.  After all, now that she had completed five - sevenths of the mission, it couldn`t be too hard to do the rest of it, right?  Allison tilted her head, glanced down at the puppy beside her, and set off at a jog, heading for the play ground part of the park.

After what seemed like an hour of jogging, Allison finally reached the play ground and began searching for the puppies. She glanced up at the horizon line and realised that the sky was turning a beautiful streaked orange, purple, and pink, and thought to herself, "Geez, I had better find the rest of these mischievous little puppies fast, or I won`t get back to the guild hall before dark." Allison continued to search harder, and harder, going through all the bushes in the area numerous times before she decided that it was futile and that there were simply no more puppies to be found here. By then, it was dark, so Allison decided to simply bring back the extra one she had found to Mrs. Markowitz so it could get fed and be given water. [i]I`ll simply continue to search for the others alone, she thought to herself, Or I may lose them all, and that would be even worse.

As she was walking back to the woman`s home, the small puppy trailing her, she heard sounds of barking coming from behind her. Allison turned around, half expecting to see a coyote or wolf or something and lo and behold; there was another of the beautiful golden puppies! Allison laughed to herself and walked slowly up to the two rejoicing siblings, and handed them each another part of a dog biscuit. She led them both to the pen in the back of Mrs. Markowitz`s house, and so six adorable golden puppies rejoiced together under the barely dark sky. Allison smiled at the scene, but her smile faded once she realised that she still hadn`t found the last puppy. And, it was almost time for her to be getting back to the puppies` owner, as he would probably be expecting her before most of the people around here went to bed.

Quietly, Allison fed all of the puppies part of a dog biscuit, and they eagerly followed her towards the ornery man`s home, which was their home. Some of them snarled as they came close, but they all soon were leaping towards it as soon as Allison pulled out a dog biscuit from her coat`s pocket. She smiled happily as she looked at the six of them, all prancing about together... wait, what?? Allison stopped and did a double take. She recounted them frantically and then paused again. Somehow, there were seven of them! Seven puppies! Allison confusedly retraced her steps mentally and realised that somewhere along the way, a seventh puppy had joined the group, without Allison even noticing. She laughed, and then knocked on the client`s door.

The man answered with a rather sleepy and unprofessional look on his face. Allison didn`t quite understand this, since she expected people working in business to stay up late, but didn`t particularly care and let all seven of the puppies run into his house, free and happy. The man grunted and took out his wallet, counted off 1000J, and handed them to her without another word, without a single thanks. In return, Allison handed him seven small dog biscuits and a huge, a thousand watt, beaming smile. The door was then slammed in her face, and Allison turned away from the door, still smiling. Today had been yet another successful day; she had managed to find all seven of the puppies and not leave a blemished mark on her so far perfect job record. Well, if you could call her jobs so far perfect... Allison still winced as she thought of all the havoc that she had gone through on the library and book job.

Allison kept smiling to herself and walked home, her hands behind her back and her feet light upon the hard road. She was doing good things as a mage, and she couldn`t wait to see where her next job would bring her. Perhaps next time, she would end up battling monsters to save people, or protecting merchants from bandits. She could not stress how much of a good decision it had been to become a mage, and to join Eclipse Soul. Allison continued to mull over her thoughts as she began the rather long, but not at all tiresome, journey back to the guild hall of Eclipse Soul and the place she now called home.
