It had been several days since Haruhi had a mission on hand. She was feeling quite bored, and unusual to her, quite lonesome. Her memories were filled with wonderful times spent with her parents, her sibling, grandparents, and pets. She missed this. She enjoyed being on her own, but wished sometimes for support of her family.
"Wake up!" screamed a member of her guild, Tartarus.
Haruhi woke up suddenly. Her face had an outline of the tables texture pressed into it. Along with a small sheet of paper pressed against her face.
"Lyserg stopped by. He wanted you to run some errands for him." said the man. "He wrote them on that sheet of paper that's stuck to your face."
Haruhi peeled off the sheet. She read and reread the list of chores that Lyserg wanted her to do.
"But why me!?" She screamed as she threw a small tantrum. She rammed her face into the table in a pathetic pout. The table expanded and blew up without a moments thought.
"Add "Buy a New Table" to the list, you brat" the man said.
"Why don't you go take care of these chores!? If you're going to give me hell about it why not show how much better you are!" Haruhi yelled. Getting right in the face of this man who easily stood 3 feet taller than her. A man of almost 8 feet. Haruhi hopped of the stool she was standing on and made her way out of the guild hall.
"Where do you think you're going? You need to do these chores!"
"Thanks again, Mr. Bastard! Oh ughhh I mean Bastro!" Haruhi giggled and ran through the guild hall doors.
Haruhi was relieved to finally be away from the guild.=, and pulling a fast one on Mr.Bastro felt pretty great too. She started making her way through the town. She was stopping by shops and markets to see what kind of items they had. She found nothing of even a small interest to her. It became curious to her that a small woman kept starring at her as she made her way back and forth down the street side. Haruhi finally had enough.
"What is wrong with you, you old bat? Is there something on my face?" As she points to her face. "My back?" She reaches to her back. "My butt!? Did I sit in something?" As she cries from embarrassment.
The old woman runs her finger down Haruhi's face "Hush child. Let me speak, will you?"
Haruhi, utterly freaked out by this woman dragging her finger down her face, screams frantically and bats the womans hand away.
"What the hell! Don't touch my face ! AHHH! Why!?" She yells. Haruhi pulls her hand back and slaps the building behind the woman. "Crash Slap!" She screamed. The building's wall burst into pebbles and dust. Setting into a pile of rubble on the other side. "See what I can do? Don't ever think of touching me again."
"You're still talking, you sweet, little, brat." The old woman repsponds.
"Don't call me that, you crazy hag!" Haruhi yells.
"You'd think your guild masters grandmother would be treated with more respect." She stated calmly.
Haruhi's face turned a pasty white. All blood flushed from her face. She hadn't realized this was Lyserg's grandmother. She might have treated her better if she had known.
"You're Lysergs grandmother!?" Haruhi questioned. "I'm so sorry. Sorry, sorry sorry! If I had known I wouldnt have... or done, or said. Please don't tell him!" Haruhi pleaded. Haruhi was scared beyond a point she had ever been before. She knew only rumors of how powerful her guild master was and did not want to have to deal with him.
"Hush child. I'm not going to say a word to him. Please, take a seat with a lonely old woman for awhile." She gestured to a small box next to her. Haruhi sat next to the old woman.
"I can tell you're a good little girl." She said. "How about I tell you a little bit about my grandbaby."
Haruhi chuckled about her powerful guildmaster being called a grand"baby".
"Alright...." Haruhi said quietly
"It was a long time ago. I used to get up early every saturday morning to clean and prepare for this little rascal to come over. He always had so much energy. He loved nothing more than to meander into my freshly cleaned house and wreck every inch of it. Throw blankets, and pillows. Papers and ornaments. But once you saw his cute little smile, you couldn't be mad anymore. Something was so innocent about him. He used to love standing by the big kitchen window and watch my husband, his grandfather, practice magic. He was intrigued by mages. All of them. Although, something about his grandfathers magic was spectacular to him. See, his grandfather was a fire make mage. They little guy had an amazing time watching him. After he grew to a reasonable age his grandfather agreed to actually introduce him to magic. He was so excited. He had never had a chance to learn from a real mage. You know, books and letters can only do so much. He showed him forms and breathing techniques. He loved it. He came over every saturday and sunday from that point on. Nothing could change how he felt. He worked very hard and became a very proficient mage. Able to use all sorts of spells. Although, I know for a fact he wasn't able to use your magic sweetie. He worked very hard to reach a level that all guilds would appreciate. He wanted to join a guild more than anything. He tried for every guild in Magnolia, and for some reason was turned down. They never turned anyone down. But for some reason still unknown to me now, they did to him. He was devastated. If you had seen the look on his face you would have burst into tears that moment, too."
I doubt that. Haruhi thought to herself.
"No you would have." The old woman said.
"How did you know what I sai.... wait, you're a mage too aren't you?" Haruhi asked quickly.
"I indeed am, young one. Telepath. Mind reading magic." She smiled and winked at Haruhi.
"I'm sorry, please go on." Haruhi said
"Anyway, he was extremely dispondent after that day. He had been training everyday until those days turned into weeks and months and years. He thought he was finally going to achieve what he had set his heart to so long ago. He made the immensely stupid decision to challenge a guild master after that. He knew that his odds of winning her on depending on how giving the master was that day. Without hesitation though, he fought. He showed no mercy and received none in return. On that day my grandson passed away. He was killed by his own idiocy."
Haruhi's face was swept of emotion yet again. She knew her guildmaster was still alive.
"Nobody knew at this point that he had mastered a lost magic. Through terrible means he was able to be brought back. He felt as though this was the turning point of his career as a wizard. Working and striving to be stronger than the guildmaster that made a fool of him. I had heard that he became a guild master himself. I am so very proud to had found out he achieved what he had been looking for."
Haruhi was overwhelmed finding so much out about her own guild master. That before he was this amazing wizard he wasn't even able to use magic. She loved it. This womans story inspired her more than ever.
"Thank you for telling me this." Haruhi said pleasantly.
"You're very welcome my dear. Now run along home. It's getting late. I'm sure you have someone waiting for you."
Haruhi made her way down the side street they were on. She reached the end and looked back to the woman only to see she was gone. The boxes they sat on and all of the womans belongings had disappeared. Haruhi, slightly surprised, turned back and headed back to her guild. The entire walk home she kept thinking to herself about what the woman had told her. She couldn't believe it. Her master, Lyserg, being lesser than another mage. It left her astonished. Haruhi finally made it back to the guild. She walked in and made her way to the bar. She got a drink and started yammering to other members about that she was told. Some were more enthused than she was. Others gave her no second notice. After telling and retelling the story, a small statured man made his way to Haruhi.
"You said this woman stated she was Lysergs grandmother?" he asked.
Haruhi nodded.
"Well, although a touching story my dear, Lysergs family died several generations ago. All of his closest relative were outlived by him by many life times. That couldn't have been his grandmother."
Haruhi was baffled. She believed what the woman had told her. Was she lying? Or just plain confused? Haruhi thought about it for a long while. Whether it be true or not, Haruhi wanted to believe in it. She wanted to be motivated by this nameless mage who became strong enough to lead a guild of his own.
"Wake up!" screamed a member of her guild, Tartarus.
