Chikane was once again sitting in her office, looking at a piece of paper that sat on her desk. Once again, it had the face of one of her own mages on it. This time, Axel Rover was in the spotlight. He was one of Fiore’s rising stars, and his track record was indeed somewhat impressive. Just like Naziel yesterday, Axel was due for his own B-rank exam. The wind mage had completed a B-rank mission before, so Chikane was certain that he would be willing to test his skills. While his magic only fed hers, Chikane wanted to see exactly how resourceful Axel could be. This once again meant that she would be fighting, but once again she did not mind.

The white haired demon had to learn about her guild members after all.

Once again, she was in her green hoodie and jogging pants with the fake armor plating. Rising from her seat, she left her office once more in order to stand at the balcony looking over the entire guild going about their usual day. A fight was sure to break out any minute, but Chikane would let them do as they pleased for the moment. She was out here for one person, and one person only.

“Axel Rover!” Chikane once again used her booming voice, making sure she got the attention of the wind mage. “I would like to see you in my office immediately. Bring no one with you at all. And don’t make me come get you.” With that, Chikane turned on her heel and went back inside her office. She sat back down and waited for the wind mage to either knock or burst inside the office.

The white haired mage hoped he knocked first, doors were ever so expensive.

Axel as in his usual spot on a bench reading, when he heard Noriko, the newest Guild Master, shout his name. “Axel Rover!“I would like to see you in my office immediately. Bring no one with you at all. And don’t make me come get you.” Axel's face soon lit up into a big smile. he was not entirely sure, but right before Mari left, Axel was due for his B-Rank Exam. Because Mari left, he was not able to do his exam, but no that his new master had been chosen, he thought for sure that he would be able to do his exam now.

Axel quickly finished his book, then walked up to Noriko's office. He knocked, and then said, "Heyo Master Hitsugaya, It is me Axel!" He waited for his master to open the door.

Axel heard Chikane tell him to come in, so he opened the door to her office. Once he came in, Axel began to talk. "Master Hitsugaya, I do not think I have done anything yet to deserve your attention, but if this is about my exam, I want to let you know that I will do my best to succeed! We have had a decline of strong members, and well, I was hoping that I would help rise that number. Also, if there is ever an invasion, we need to have members that can succesfully defend the guild. I will do what ever it takes to help Fairy Tail!" Axel said to chikane. As Axel spoke, his enthusiasm for his exam got higher. If Chikane did not call him up for an exam, he would feel very embarassed and sad.

Chikane smiled as Axel had the right idea in mind for why she had called him up into her office. It was what she had done for Naziel yesterday, so he might have had some clue as to her method. This was perfect, as she only would have to explain why she had picked him and the basis of what his exam would be. The white haired guild master laid her arms across the desk and stared into Axel’s eyes, making sure that the fire in his eyes was real before she began to speak.

“You seem to already have a bit of knowledge on the situation Axel.” Chikane started, her tone light yet still authoritative. “I believe that you shall in fact represent the guild well. As for why you are indeed here, it is because I have been going through your most recent job reports.” Chikane waved her right hand at a stack of papers that sat on the right side of her desk. “And I must say, that none of the reports fail to make me impressed." Chikane sat back in her chair and looked outside her window, noticing the great scenery of Magnolia town, before looking back at Axel again. “You shall be taking your B-rank exam today. I wish to test your abilities as a mage, and to see whether or not you are capable of rising in the ranks.” Chikane explained again for the wind mage, as she adjusted the work on her desk.

Her eyes twinkled with a bit of mischievousness, but the fact that her head was down looking at papers meant that it was out of view to Axel.

Axel was excited when Chikane told him he was to be taking his exam today. He was finally going to become stronger, and he could not hold back a smile at that point. "Really? Thank you Master Hitsugaya! You will not regret this decision! I will be as strong as Simon and Nightken! Now, where do we go to take this exam, and what will I have to do? Fight a forest full of vulcans? Slay a dragon? Save a princess?" Axel said. He was so excited for this moment that his mind suddenly filled with ideas of what he was going to do for his exam.

Chikane chuckled, amused at the imagination that her guild member had. Axel seemed to have high hopes for this exam, which had the guild master laughing evilly in her mind. His ideas ranged from vulcan fighting, to fighting dragons. Chikane was sure that he didn’t expect to fight her like Naziel had done the previous day, but he was going to have to find that out now. The white haired guild master leaned closer to her desk.

“Why what an imagination you have there Axel. Keep that, because you’ll need it in any future exams I’ll give you.” Chikane’s voice was filled with amusement, and she had a smile on her face. “But you’re exam is a bit more simple than that. I shall just have you test your skills against someone from the guild in a one on one spar. It shouldn’t be anything more than that.” Chikane spoke while scratching her cheek. She had held off on saying that she would be the one fighting him exactly, wanting that to be a bit of a surprise when they got outside for the actual match.

That should be entertaining.

“So are you ready?” She asked the wind mage, hoping he was ready to get the match started. She sure was.

Axel was shocked at what his exam would be. Another fight? I guess I can go for it, but my last one did not go all that well, Axel thought. In his last exam, Axel attempted to kill one of his guild members due to confusion. That guild member was Mari, the former guild master of Fairy Tail, until she dissapeared out of nowhere. Axel did not even get the chance to say he was sorry for that conflict, and he regretted not being able to tell her.

Axel had his body half-out of the door, waiting in anticipation for his new guildmaster to get up so he could follow her to the fighting area. "So who am I going to fight? Ebony? Leonard? Or maybe Heero?" asked Axel. He knew that they were the previous guild masters, and have met all of them except for Heero. "Maybe I will go against Nightken and Simon as a team?" Axel also pondered. It could have been possible, as Nightken and Kira were B-rank mages. Even though it was to be a simple fight, Axel still could not help but expand his imagination.

Chikane got up from her chair and moved to a dark corner of her office, picking up the blade that sat in the corner. It was Hono no uta, the buster blade she had found a long time ago in Midi. The white haired guild master had found herself using it a bit less since she got to Fiore, but she always had it on hand just in case. She wanted to use it in this fight with Axel as well, as she had rarely had any chance to do so yesterday against Naziel. Axel wasn’t a dragon slayer, so she would be a bit more free in what she could do with it.

“You shall find out soon Axel. You’re opponent will be outside with us shortly.” Chikane spoke while moving past Axel and outside the door, giving him a smile while she was walking out. Chikane walked down the stairs from the second floor, moving towards the doors outside. She paid no mind to the guild members yet again, as she was currently busy thinking of how she would approach Axel’s exam with her. She couldn’t go all out, as he wasn’t a dragon slayer like Naziel, so that left a more tactical approach. Thinking of a quick plan while opening the doors to go outside, she immediately made for the training field on the outside.

Chikane was all prepared for the fight that was going to occur between herself and Axel.

Axel hastily followed Chikane out of the guild hall and into the training field. As he arrived behind her, Axel noticed there was no one on the field yet except for him and chikane. He wondered when the others would come, but after minutes he then realized that no others would be coming. So I assume that the guild master herself wishes to test my might? why did I not think of this outcome? Well, I did it before, and it went rather well before the interruption. Nothing will stop me from attaining B-Rank! Axel thought. He readied his mind to prepare for what his new guild master had in mind for tactics against him, then he began to speak.

"Well Master Hitsugaya, I could only assume that you are the one I am fighting? It makes the most sense, anyway. Well in that case, I cannot hold back, can I?  I will give it my best, I swear to you!" Axel said. Again, he hoped he was right that chikane was his opponent, or he would be embarrassed.

Chikane giggled at Axel’s perception. The white haired guild master nodded, affirming his suspicions of her being the person he would spar. There was little chance of him winning, but that wasn’t going to be the point of the exam. She would test his will and ability to plan on the fly, wondering what it would take for him to keep up with her in a fight. Chikane hefted Hono no uta on her shoulder while placing her free hand on her hip.

“You sure are going to fight me Axel. And you better give it your all, because I want to see your very best!” Chikane’s blade was ignited in a torrent of red hot flames, showing off her burning spirit. The guild master was excited to learn how another one of the mages in her guild fought, and a wind one at that. This would probably be one of her more interesting spars, but she was going to make sure that Axel knew he wasn’t going to come out of this unscathed.

As painlessly as possible, of course.

“So you better not hold back on anything!” Chikane exclaimed while hopping back 5 meters. She wanted some space beforehand so that her guild member could have room to operate with whatever he was going to do. Chikane hoped he didn’t try the trick that Naziel did to her yesterday. Even with how absentminded she was, there was little chance of her falling for the same trick twice.

And if she did, well she might be a little peeved.

As Chikane had finished her words, Axel took it as the start of the fight. He pondered whether or not he should attack first, but then knew this was not a fight to the death, so he had room for error if he made the wrong decision. He finally decided to go for the first attack. I believe I should start small. I do not want to use up all of my energy on the first few attacks, Axel thought. He steadily gathered the wind around him, and formed three wind orbs that began to float above his head.  Axel walked back a few feet, and when he thought he was far enough, Axel made for a dash towards chikane. Even though his attack is meant to be long range, he decided to get in close and launch. He was not certain the attack would hit, but if it didn't, atleast he would be close enough for a physical assault. Once he was back were he started, 5 meters away from Chikane, Axel launched one of his wind orbs at her.

Chikane was impressed with Axel as he started to walk away, but then decided to rush head on. This was something that she hadn’t expected of the wind mage, given that her magic fed off his, and thusly she was impressed. He obviously had guts, trying to make this a closer ranged fight, but he seemed to ignore the fact that Chikane was a primarily a close range fighter. She thrived off fighting face to face, as it made the blood in her veins boil with excitement.

This is why she immediately began to run towards Axel to meet him head on.

Chikane quickly moved out of the way of Axel’s wind orb, trying to not get hit with the innovative spell. Chikane swung her heavy blade down towards Axel’s shoulder, trying to test his reflex capabilities. While not the fastest blade in existence, Hono no uta could move at nice enough speed for the white haired guild master to surprise you with an attack or two here or there.

She was just testing to see if Axel was ready for her blade. Chikane hoped he was, because her blade was not something to take head on. Not unless you were Heero, and that was only a one time deal.

As Axel knew it would happen, Chikane easily dodged his orb, then took out her sword, attempting to assault Axel. Since he knew that she would dodge, Axel, had already token out his Fortune Blade right after Chikane dodged.Realizing that Chikane's blade was going to fast for him to block with his own sword, he quickly moved to the left with the help of a gust of wind, effectively dodging her attack, however she was able to scrape Axel's shoulder, cutting a piece of his coat and leaving a small scar.

Axel scurried back fifteen feet, and after a few seconds, he began to dash towards chikane yet again. This time he commanded his orbs to launch away from Chikane five feet on either side of her. That way if she dodged Axel's sword by going to the right or left, she would likely get hit by an orb. Axel knew that she would not get hit if she jumped away, or got away quick enough to dodge even the orbs, but he had to try something. Once Axel got in front of Chikane, he slashed downward.

Chikane clicked her tongue slightly when Axel managed to nearly completely dodge her blade. She still got him on the shoulder slightly, but it wasn’t exactly what she was expecting. The white haired guild master just pulled her blade back up in an offensive stance and waited for Axel to pull his next move. She didn’t have to wait long, as the wind mage launched his two remaining orbs on each side of her and started to charge her with the intent of slashing her with his blade. Chikane quickly observed the situation and, wanting to not have a scratch on her blade yet, decided that using her Cold Step spell to make a quick getaway. Thus she did, barely managing to dodge the blade as it nicked her clothing.

Chikane created and launched a Flame Baseball at Axel, before using the last two bursts of her Cold Step to generate as much distance from Axel as possible. This was per the flame mage’s usual, wanting to see how her guildies reacted to her basic spells. She could have brought the heavy guns out early, but then again she might hurt her guildies too much.

She already knocked Naziel out cold once. She didn’t want to do it again without a purpose.

Axel watched as Chikane dodged his attack and managed not to get hit by his two orbs, leaving an icy trail in her previous position. Axel then witnessed Chikane throw a ball of flames coming at him rather fast. His reflexes turned on and he slided to the right using a gust of wind, with the ball of flames barely missing him. He was lucky, but he knew he would have to get on his game if he wanted to show his master he was ready to attain a higher rank. Axel drew up wind in his right hand, preparing it for his Wind Bullets. He stepped back away from chikane until he was 10 yards away, then he held his right hand out towards Chikane.

He fired his first Wind Bullet, that was going 15 yards per second, and could likely hit Chikane this time. The millisecond he launched his first bullet, however, he Became the wind and used his Wind Teleportation to instantly appear 10 yards away from Chikane, then launching a second Wind Bullet. He launched himself in the air the Milisecond it fired with the help of his flight ability. He thought for sure the attacks would connect since they were less than a second away from chikane, but to be sure he was on his way to appearing directly above Chikane in the air, with his sword out. If she miraculously avoided the two hits, she might go airborne, leaving Axel a chance to strike.

Axel noticed that Chikane had somehow blocked his two Air Bullets. He was now in-air, attempting and Ariel assault, but it seemed Chikane was ready to meet his attack with one of her own. Axel had witnessed flames erupt from Chikane's very hand, engulfing it in the fire. Axel knew he could not cancel his assault, for he was now too close to Chikane, so he did the only thing he could think of doing at that point. Axel used the wind around him to make him start spinning, faster and faster, until he and the wind around him resembled a Drill comprised of wind.

Axel headed directly towards Chikane's fist, and hoped that he would win the clash with his Wind Drill. Of course, he knew that Fire could easily beat wind, but if Axel predicted correctly, his drill would be engulfed in flames, and unless Chikane was a fire dragon slayer, she might still get inflicted with a bit of damage, since a flaming vortex would basically be on top of her at that moment.

As Axel collided with Chikane's fist, he realized he was dead wrong about CHikane also being affected. The only thing he accomplished was getting himself even more damaged than he would have been if he just took the punch. The fire engulfed his wind drill, and after seconds of being in the middle of burning flames, the drill dissipated, and Axel got blown back to the ground, 15 yards away from Chikane, due to her punch. Even though he was In deep pain, Axel stood up, ready to continue fighting Chikane. He was not going to give up on B-Rank because of mistakes, so he knew that he could no longer make them.

Just as he was thinking of another way to fight Chikane, Axel realized he used most of his spells already. He took out his Fortune Blade, and decided to run towards Chikane. He knew it would be bad to fight with his magic anyway, since Fire beats wind every time. He had to take a different approach. Once Axel got close enough, he launched a barrage of slashes, from upward to downward slashes, left to right slashes, etc, hoping some of them would hit.

Chikane landed with a shrug after her attack landed on Axel. He flew, but she was sure that he was fine. At least, she was certain that he would live after that. The wind mage was tough, no doubt about it from what she had read about his exam with the previous guild master. But this was something he probably didn’t really expect. Chikane was definitely a close range fighter, no questions asked, and her strength was something immense. When it was all said and done, he was going to quite indeed lose this fight.

However, she didn’t want him to quit until he passed each test.

Chikane engaged him in a quick swordfight, clashing blades constantly and just overall testing his swordsmanship skills. They were relatively okay, but she noted a few flaws in his stance and style. She would have to fix that quickly, but right now was the time to check out his tactical thinking skills. This would prove to be one of his last tests, but maybe one of the most important ones he would have.

Chikane cocked her blade back, engulfed it in burning flames, and then performed her blade’s Tamashi Hori Kuzushi spell. This was something Axel would definitely need to figure out about, if he took the hit his exam would end sooner than he thought. If not, his exam would still probably end fairly quickly.

All depended on him though.

As the clash of swords went on, Axel realized Chikane was sort of an expert at the blade, and he had a bit of trouble keeping up with her strikes. In the middle of the sword fight, Axel found time to release his left hand from the blade, and press a button on his Wind Necklace that brought forth it's magical power. Gusts of wind immediately covered Axel, allowing him to use these winds to push him in any direction, making him almost twice as fast as he was. Just in time, he thought, as Chikane engulfed her sword in flames, ready to slice Axel.

He knew that if he got hit by that attack, it would be over sooner, so using the gusts of winds brought to him by his Necklace, Axel dodged the strike by dodge-rolling left. Axel than stuck his sword in the ground so that he could gather enough wind to form three wind orbs. Axel knew he had no time to think, so he immediately threw all of the orbs at once towards Chikane, hoping that they would hit her before she turned to greet Axel with another strike.
