Crickets chirped nearby, hiding in the tall grass; One would see their beady little eyes glistening off the setting sun. This was the perfect time of day, not too hot, not too cold, and there wasn't alot of sunlight to bug him. Walking along the dirt path he couldn't help but think about his purpose here. Riches certainly were intriguing? But what was the real reason? The Magic Council distributed this job among guilds legal and dark alike, however Tartarus was still in the shadows, only rumors among scared civilians.

Yet however, he found himself here, at the entrance to the Ancient City. Looking ahead he seen caved in building, monstrous holes in the earth, and vine covered ruins. The typical Cliche scene of a Treasure Hunt, however, they weren't here for the treasure. They were here for the hunters that wallowed deep within their own psyche. They were lost now, attacking any innocent of non that came close. It was beginning to be a problem for the Magic Council, and just like usual, they ordered in someone to take care of the mess.

Alakai raised his head, looking up at where the moon has already begun to rise. A curious thought, this is the only time of day where the moon and the sun are easily visible, and they both sit opposite on the horizon. He wondered why that was? But he couldn't come up with any logical reasons. So he stood there, waiting for his partner to join him. They can't really be counted as partners, just more or acquaintances tackling this together. However Alakai really didn't feel like he needed help handling a few mortal hunters. Or perhaps he was sent to monitor him. Did his rampaging deeds already reach a rumored state? Either way, he still waited for Lyserg to get here.

Remembering their first encounter, he could feel a tingle crawl up his skin. Screams and images were burned into his mind. His hands, they were all killed by him, and the warm feeling of their blood on his hands soothed him. Something about seeking after the very life essence of a human is what drove him to kill. And he knew, with more sacrifices, he was given more power. This job would help him achieve such a thing.

    Job Description:

The weather was peculiar. Nearly too perfect to be true. A mixture of endearing and suspicious. It was almost as if Lyserg could see the sun moving on the evening sky. Waiting a moment, contemplating just how often he had seen the moon come up and night-time enter this land, he stood there while his partner was already scouting out the area. Taking a glance around himself, falling behind a bit he traced the landscape. Ruins of a lost kingdom. It was funny. The more he looked around, the more Lyserg recalled how this place had looked a thousand years ago.

He recognized the plaza to his right. A gigantic space on which a market was held every week. He recognized the broken down tower in which the Wizard Saints used to hold their meetings. He recognized the housing possibilities that once made up the streets of the place. Back then, the people that had still spoken his language called the city Valyria. Now just the ruins of what once was. Interesting, to say the least. Time had ravaged this place into a pile of dust. Picking up the pace again, Lyserg now trialed behind Kaido who was already waiting to enter the catacombs. Catacombs, not even Lyserg knew existed up until now. He had guessed, but some secrets were inaccessible for him.

Walking up to stand right next to his temporary partner, he stood beside him looking down. In full gear, with his beloved armor and both of his blades he knew this would be the first real accomplishment he would make in this world. With his body straight forward, Lyserg turned his head and looked at Kaido. "I still wonder why we decided to make this a joint mission." He calmly stated with a dry tone in his voice. Then, letting his glance trace around he skimmed the buildings for an entrance to the underground world of this city. "I would say we cut right to the chase and find an entrance to the catacombs. I have seen enough of the ruins for now."

Taking a step and starting to walk around, Lyserg let his eyes swipe around. Nothing left, nothing right. Knowing Ancient Ruins and cities together, the tower was likely their best shot. "Kaido, I would suggest that we go take a look in the main building. Catacombs tend to run towards the center." An earnest suggestion, he motioned over to a tower which's top half was completely gone and only had three walls left standing with several floors collapsing out of the non-existent fourth wall. It looked like someone had torn open a small box of sand on only one wall and the sand was now spilling out of that wall. An entertaining image, to say the least. "The... or at least one of the entrances should be there." He stated monotonous.

The Hunters became The Hunted || Alakai and Lyserg Empty Re: The Hunters became The Hunted || Alakai and Lyserg

Post by Alakai 22nd May 2014, 11:51 am

These Ancient Ruins, they were once a large domesticated and powerful city, now reduced to crumbling architecture. Alakai wondered about how the city appeared, the regal glory behind it, but he was more curious in it's destruction. Was it a slow dying flame, or a massive explosion taking everything out in its wake? This intrigued him, he was always about how things went out of existence, and he wondered if it was a marvelous end.

It didn't take long for his partner to step out of the shadows and come up next to him. Alakai didn't bark, or mention he was late, it's not like he waited till dawn. That, would irritate him. They both stepped forward, surveying the area, it was quiet and peaceful, minus the caw from a bird or the chirping of crickets. Those did not bother him one bit, what did, was the nagging feeling that this quiet, was staged...

" Perhaps i was just generous enough to bring you out with me? The question is,  why did you join me?" He said glancing a stare at Lyserg. It didn't sound like griping, but that comment pulled at him. Alakai scanned let to right, there was nothing here but hoes, dead buried buildings and vines trying to pull them into the landscape. "Catacombs are burial vaults buried beneath the city correct?" He said as he walked up into a caved in hole in the earth, " So i would suspect that is why these were all created. So in essence, these are all entrances."

Pondering over that, he really didn't want to get lost and have to overdo himself by wandering all night. Maybe these hunters had a map on them. Surely they already scoped out the labyrinth and found the treasure. At least, he hoped. Hope, such a pathetic feeling; Alakai hated to lean on feelings alone, he preferred hard solid facts. "We will go with your suggestion, it may lead us to a body at some point, and i want to find a map. " He said as he walked off in the direction of the tower, it was the tallest building standing, but even then it was still a dying disaster.

Standing there at the tower, it look as it a large mole had dug in through the side. Curious, as it didn't look natural. The stone door were blocked, so that was going to be their way into this building. It would be tragic if it would collapse on top of them just as they got inside. "It looks sturdy enough." He remarked as he glanced over the sound and serene stone structure.

"Generosity... you don't have to try and delude me into thinking that is a feeling you would present me." Lyserg didn't try to snap back, but he simply spoke out what he thought was the truth. Kaido would certainly not have felt generous towards him. He had neither reason nor the personality to act in such a manner. He knew that much during the short time of their acquaintance. "I joined you because this place seemed interesting and we don't seem all too incompatible." He added with the idea to show Kaido he wasn't trying to quarrel or fight with him, but simply speak straight with the boy.

He sighed inwardly and glanced into the distance. "While these are all entrances, we need one that we can definitely find back to." He spoke already starting to walk. Looking straightforward, his cloak would sway in the calm winds that pushed dirt and sand over the ground and against his shins. "The catacombs have been advertised as a gargantuan labyrinth. But as it usually goes with these kinds of places, they were built up after the idea that all roads lead to Rome." An old idiom that he hadn't used in a while. It described what he wanted to express however. Lyserg wondered if Kaido would be able to pick it up.

It was a relatively long walk. While the tower didn't look far away, its size was not to be underestimated. It was about a mile away, despite looking like you could toss a stone at it. "It will likely have the biggest available entrance in the surroundings." He spoke behind him, without looking back. Lyserg didn't mind the quiescent atmosphere. The taps of his leather boots and the metallic shaking of his steel padded armor parts didn't travel far in the flatland they were in. It was quiet, but not too quiet. It was never too quiet. And after a comparably short walk for the distance, he arrived and turned around to check for Kaido.

Underground Labyrinth, one built that all roads lead to Rome. An idiotic thought, that was impossible. But he understood the meaning behind it. One wrong turn and they could be lost forever. He didn't so much like that idea, being left in maze to rot. He sneered and just kept walking. It sure was a long ways to this tower and the sun easily set fast behind them; Soon enough a tall shadow was cast over the valley and the only sunlight you could see was touching the top of the tower, the one they were heading for.

It was silent the rest of the way, he just trailed behind Lyserg a bit, looking around him, expecting for this place to be so much more than it seemed. When they finally reached the tower Alakai looked down the gaping hole left in the side of the tower, He couldn't see to the end as the light blocked his vision."Let's proceed," He said before stepping into the mound of debris and rock that had given way from the tower. His hand brushed against the outer opening before he stepped in. Though the shadow casted from the setting sun gave him no light to see with on the outside, the inside was a different. His Vision wasn't blocked and he could see everything perfectly.

Dusty, old, covered in local vegetation, the inside was no different than the outside. Did he get his hopes up for something else? Either way he just scoffed and tried no to die of suffocation of the dirt and bugs that hugged the area. Looking around he couldn't see any signs of an opening. Were they wrong? There were footprints though, several of them, that left imprints in the dirt around the stones. Could they perhaps be from the Hunters? And could they follow them? Alakai just stared at them, trying to find a pattern within their steps but it was all impossible.

The Hunters became The Hunted || Alakai and Lyserg Empty Re: The Hunters became The Hunted || Alakai and Lyserg

Post by Tuna 10th June 2014, 1:47 pm

As they stood before the gigantic black pit, Lyserg halted. Staring down, he glanced around for a short moment looking for something. It had to be here. Hanging from one of the outer walls. If there was anybody down in that labyrinth, it would be here. He just needed to look around for a short moment until he found it. The torch had broken off of the clasp on the wall and was now lying bare on the ground. Lyserg swiftly moved over and grabbed it, whilst Kaido was already stepping down into the catacombs. Trailing behind him, Lyserg entered the labyrinth behind him as well, lighting up the torch with a small fire lacrima he had brought along him provisional.

As the dim flame from the torch shined streaks of light upon the surroundings, Lyserg looked around. The place looked steady enough to not break in upon them whilst progressing on this quest. Even though he wanted to catch up to Kaido, he let him lead as he didn't seem to have a problem seeing in the dark at all. Peculiar. As the dust and dirt thickened and the path widened up indicating that it wasn't long until they would reach a clearing, he noticed the footprints shine up under the flame. They had no clear direction or pattern, but the definitely told them to follow forward. And that was when he spoke for the first time since entering this maze. "We should go about this strategically. If the catacombs are really as big as advertised, then we should watch our step. I can feel a clearing coming up however, we should take a break there and discuss how to proceed."

Speaking loudly and clearly, Lyserg listened to the echo of his voice travel along the straigh-lined path. And if he wasn't completely off, this route would bend to the right in just a couple 100 steps and then clear up after another 50 or 60. Satisfied, he continued to trail behind Kaido, whom he clearly put his dependence on for this quest. He was stronger, so there wasn't any shame in relying on him to lead this party. And Lyserg was positive that Kaido would feel better with more responsibility.

The Hunters became The Hunted || Alakai and Lyserg Empty Re: The Hunters became The Hunted || Alakai and Lyserg

Post by Alakai 11th June 2014, 9:13 am

The air was damp and dusty, and smelled of mildew; it was rather disgusting and Alakai covered his mouth and nose with a soft cloth he kept in his coat, perfect for just these occasions. He felt pained as Lyserg had lit a torch to see with, the dancing light messed with his eyes, but it would be worse it he was trailing the man. Perhaps it was better if he stayed oblivious as to where Alakai's true power came from.
Forming a tick in his jaw, his annoyance grew evermore as Lyserg seemed to delegate orders onto Alakai. But either way, his request was not taken lightly and Alakai stopped as they walked into an opening. It reminded him of a large cavern, with stalagmites and stalactites growing top to bottom. With his eyes he could even see bats hanging, who were rather jittery with Lyserg's light.

He turned to face him, removing the cloth from his face, " Do you think we will run into any traps?" The tall man placed on hand in a pocket on his hip and the other ran through his hair. The air was less dense in this part of the catacombs, and he preferred it didn't get any worse. Looking around he noticed the ancient patterns marked along the stone, and engraved pictures. Quite exquisite, if they were cleaned up actually.

"Do you think they will lead us to them? Either by marking where they have been, or footprints?" Although Alakai wanted one, he probably wasn't going to find a map just strewn across somewhere, and It was definite the hunters had been here, as there was no other paths from the opening, and they had gear in boxes lying about.
Alakai walked up to a wall and gently touched it, wiping away dust with his black gloved hand. The material used to make these stones were sturdy, cause they would have had to been here for hundreds of years. Pulling away his hand, he grimaced at the dust that accumulated on his clean outerwear.
