Find The Ring [Lyserg;Solo]

Job Description:

A sunny day and Lyserg had found himself in the crummy village-sized city known as Oak Town. The oldest city in all of Fiore, Lyserg had even been alive during its foundation some 550 years ago. With the purpose to function as a cultural center, it had been established as the city where all literature of Fiore would be held. It had the greatest library Lyserg had ever witnessed. During the past year, he had spent many anonymous hours there to study the vast and rapid changes that had taken place in the past five centuries. But today he wasn't there to slander through the humid alleys that were starting to decay and already showed mold in some places. No, today he was here for another task. He had picked out fairly simple ones to reinvigorate his control of Time Magic and gain some experience as to the social interaction these people nowadays fostered. A ring seemed to have fallen in the old river that had flown beside Oak Town already 500 years ago. Lyserg wondered how many rings had fallen into there while he was asleep.

He had met with his client just a few minutes ago and had a small conversation about the ring with her. She claimed it was a keepsake of her fiance's family and that it would be incredibly embarrassing and irresponsible if she wouldn't get it back after losing it. Lyserg, who showed a minimal amount of interest in the trivial problems of the woman, agreed to go find it. The woman, called Emy Milton, would have to accompany him though. Another requirement Lyserg made was that the woman would wear the same dress she had worn on the day that she lost the ring. He figured this way the finding would move faster. So stepping towards the river, Lyserg took another glance around. Tracing the environment, he figured that the ring might as well have been stolen. The rotten town seemed full of thieves, petty criminals and people who had to lower themselves to nothing more than dogs for the act of mere survival. It was likely that someone had slid his fingers into Miss Milton's pocket and was now happy about some hundred jewels.

Arriving at the riverside, he then began to question Emy Milton about the ring. The day she lost it, the time she lost it, the location at which she lost it. Slowly, but surely, the woman's recollection came back. She was reluctant and air-headed, and it was torture to pull everything out of her in the questioning manner Lyserg had to for the time being. Under normal circumstances he would have verbally abused the girl into oblivion, but as such a thing was neither necessary nor appropriate at the current time, he layed low and steadily squeezed the woman's unorganized mind dry. Until they had finally figured out a premise from which they could start working, around 15 had passed. Despite Lyserg's nature, it had felt like an eternity to him. Ironic, he thought. He disliked the irony of his very being. Especially because he couldn't defy himself. Acceptance towards this fact was there. Nonetheless it stressed him out at times like these. As they had finally finished however, they started walking downstream to a location that Lyserg estimated to be correct based upon his estimation of the river's speed and flow.

Arriving at a position Lyserg deemed correct, he started to search the surroundings at first. He moved through the grass. Laying his hand on the ground, he was starting to get faint memories that came from the earth they stood on. Trying to go back all the way to the day his client had lost it, he thought that maybe he could find a recollection of events that gave image to where the woman had lost it. But the earth had always been a too solvent matter as that he could get clear images from it. Moving a bit forward in his kneeling position, Lyserg then used his "Auge der Zeit" on the water before him, which he had reached. Dipping his fingertips into the water, he concentrated and tried to recollect the rivers past. But as this was a fluid substance as well, there was no use. In that case, he had to resort to the woman's clothing. And so he got and approached her with a stern face.

Approaching her, he didn't want to give price any of his abilities. He didn't want such a mere citizen to potentially spread the news about his abilities, so he refused to give her information about his magic and capability to envision past of matter. The woman was sitting in the grass, slightly depressed as the search was bringing no fruition. As such, Lyserg carefully placed his right hand onto her left shoulder, crouching down, beginning to talk in a reassuring manner that they would certainly find the ring. She seemed reluctant to hand out a helping fee, so finding the ring was the only way to make this truly worth it. Concentrating on her clothes' past, he envisioned them getting put on in the morning, getting washed two days ago and having gotten wet because of a downpour three days ago. Then, four days ago, he envisioned the ring being lost. Miss Milton had had it on near the river with her fiance, when it slid off her finger, just enough for it to stay in the grass while she had rested her hand on the earth. Lyserg's left labial angle jerked upwards.

Getting up, he then told the woman that he would search a bit longer. Moving downstream, he estimated that the rain from two days ago would have carried the ring along the grass and dirt into the river bank and then carried it along some more. Likely twenty to thirty meters had the ring traveled. And indeed, just after a little bit of concentrating on the water, Lyserg had found it. Calling over to Miss Milton that he had found the ring, she came rushing, still sobbing from before. With a happy smile, she now asked Lyserg to get it out. As he didn't quite want to get himself wet, he inquired if the ring just bared sentimental value or if it had actual value, perhaps magical. Miss Milton responded that it indeed bared some sort of magical powers, as her fiance had reported. For ages it was a ring that attracted luck and procured happiness. With a satisfied tone, Lyserg then stressed that he was a water mage and getting the ring out would bare no problem.

Asking the woman to step back, as he didn't want to harm the clothes she was carrying, Lyserg then activated his spell "Ruin". Stepping into the water, in a range of three meters, the water would start evaporating, breaking the stream right in the middle. Even the earth he was walking on starting to decay and crumble down into dust. The only thing that stayed as it was, were Lyserg and the ring that was now lying in the dirt. It would seem as if Lyserg controlled the water surrounding him, but the woman would not realize what was actually happening. Then, he picked up the ring and stepped back out of the river. Even the ring was completely. Letting his spell pass over, he handed it to the woman who inspected it and confirmed that it indeed was her engagement ring. It was Lyserg's luck that the ring had a higher value of magic than he could muster at the moment, and that the woman was even right about it. Satisfied, he accepted the payment and then caused his appearance to vanish out of his client's memories.
