Job: The Rarest Flower(Kihia and Talen)

Talen looked over at Kihia as the two of them walked through a dark forest. They had decided to go on a mission together to find a herb that was used to create a very powerful medicine. Talen had decided to invite this new member of the guild along with him so that the two could get to know each other a bit better. Talen normally knew at least a little about the members of his guild, but he knew almost nothing about Kihia, other then the fact that he was an ice make mage.

Talen sighed and took out one of his keys. He had hoped that it would not be necessary to summon her for this, but it looked like he had no other choice. "Gate of the huntress I open thee, Artemis!" A female spirit came out to the doorway, and she jumped at Talen almost knocking him off his feet. she wrapped him in a tight hug, saying "Talen, why do you always wait so long to summon me?" she pouted a little bit. "Do you not like me?" "You know I love you," Talen said with a slight smile, "But it's not my fault your contract says that you can not be summoned inside a city." "You know I hate those disgusting places." Talen laughed a little. "Well," he said, "do you mind helping us out?" "Sure, what is it?" "We are looking for a flower with amazing healing powers, do you think that you could find it?"

Artemis stood thinking for a few minuets before answering, "I think that I can find it by following the tracts of injured animals, but it would take a wile." Talen turned to Kihia, asking, "What do you think we should do?"

Kihia was quietly walking behind Talen with Icarus resting on his right shoulder. He was studying his surroundings as they walked through the forest; he pretended not to notice Talen looking back at him. He didn’t know the Celestial wizard that much, the only thing he has been able to deduce from studying Talen that he was incredibly close to most of his spirits, a kind of relationship that reminded him of a family. Kihia was aware of the mission that Talen and himself was on, and was trying to think of a way to help find this flower.  

He had noticed when Talen pulled out one of his celestial spirit keys, and summoned one Kihia hadn’t seen before.  He listened closely to the two talk and was amused by it although he barely smiled. He was taken aback a little when Talen turned to him and asked “What do you think we should do?” Kihia thought for a moment, he heard Artemis’s idea and agreed that it would take a while.  Hmmmmm, but she in a way her idea may be valid… Kihia looked at Talen and responded “If we can find a fresh set of animal tracks, and find the animal. When we do, we try and see if a petal from the flower we are looking for that might have been caught on an animal’s fur or if one fell off the animal. If we find a petal we could simply backtrack the animal’s tracks and we may be able to find one of the flowers…” after he finished he stared at Talen for a moment, and then Artemis. Eventually he returned to studying the surrounding forest for any possible sign of the flower.

Kihia had agreed, more or less, to Artemis's plan before, once again, staring off into the distance. Talen shook his head before saying, "Well Artemis, I guess this is our best plan. Lead on." Artemis simply nodded before crouching down and starting to look at the tracks on the ground. Talen had always been very impressed by the spirit's ability to track. She could follow a trail in almost any environment in almost any condition. She had tried to teach Talen this skill once, but he had no talent for it and she had given up in frustration.

Artemis soon had a trail, and she lead them along some unseen path until she held up a hand as a signal for the two mages to stop. She pointed ahead into a small clearing. Talen could barely see something moving around inside. Artemis silently put a finger to her mouth and turned around ready follow a different trail. However, as Talen turned to follow he stepped on a twig, causing it to make a snap that seemed to reverberate in the oddly quiet woods.

Artemis rolled her eyes before drawing her bow and whirling around, standing as she did so, ready to fire an arrow at the first enemy she saw.

'Monster Dice' :

Kihia had stopped as soon as Artemis had raised her hand for them to halt. He then started to observe the clearing she had pointed to barely seeing any movement himself. He didn’t even notice that she had motioned them to go a different path, he broke his gaze when he heard the twig that Talen had accidentally stepped on. Kihia tensed as he noticed Artemis readying one of her arrows, he lift Icarus off his right shoulder and adopted a defensive stance. He then heard movement from the bush behind the group; he turned his head and noticed a pair of yellow eyes staring at Talen. “Talen look out!” Kihia quickly spun around pushing Talen out of the way with his right hand as the creature attempted to pounce on his companion, as he did this Kihia swung Icarus with his left arm to strike the creature before it could land. Icarus made slammed into the creature’s upper neck and sent it to the ground. Kihia then quickly re-adopted his stance to observe what he just hit, it was a single solitary wolf that was now somewhat dazed from Kihia’s attack. Kihia then took a quick glance towards Talen’s direction, and said “Sorry about that, but are you ok?”

Kihia pushed Talen out of the way as a large gray wolf jumped out of a bush at him. The ice mage knocked it to the ground with the weapon that he always carried before asking Talen if he was okay. "I'm fine, focus on the fight." Artemis mumbled something to herself and the arrows head started to glow with a faint green light. She fired the arrow int the ground just in front of the wolf. When the arrow hit, large roots came up and entangled the wolf, holding it in place.

Artemis looked at the celestial spirit mage, saying “Talen, when I say be quiet that means be quiet!" “You know that I am not as good as you at being stealthy.” Artemis rolled her eyes and fired an arrow into the wolf. It let out a sharp yelp when the arrow hit and struggled even harder against the roots.

Kihia nodded when Talen said he was fine, and watched Artemis unleash her attacks onto the wolf. As Artemis started readying another arrow Kihia rushed at the wolf. When he reached it, Kihia executed a clockwise spin to strike Icarus into the wolf’s side. “Ice Make…Spear!” Kihia reversed his spin as the ice spearhead formed onto Icarus slashing across the body of the wolf as it passed by. Kihia then stopped spinning and thrust Icarus into the wolf to kill it.

Kihia slowly pull Icarus out of the wolf, and nodded towards the wolf. He turned to his companions, stared at them for a moment and then let the ice spear fade away. He knelt down to begin cleaning the blood of the wolf off of Icarus, as he did this he said, “I am sorry once again for shoving you out of the way… and I am glad you are not hurt.”

Talen looked at Kihia with an aggravated expression. Kihia had pushed him out of the way, when he had not really needed the help. Even if the wolf had gotten him, Talen doubted that it would have done to much damage. After all, he thought to himself, I'm not completely helpless by myself.

Artemis looked over at Talen, and seeing the look on his face, said in a scolding tone, "Talen, this mage here probably just saved your life, be thankful!" Talen hung is head before reluctantly saying, "Thanks Kihia." Talen did not like having to be helped by others, he preferred helping others in need.

After apologizing Talen took a look inside the clearing, just to see what was there. To his surprise, he was a single unmistakable white flower sitting in the middle of the clearing, illuminated by a single shaft of sunlight. "That's it!" Talen shouted to the others excitedly. However as he said this, the brush around the clearing started to rustle, and shapes became visible. That's not good, Talen thought to himself. As he prepared himself for the fight, the celestial mage also felt Artemis returning to the spirit world and cursed under his breath.

'Monster Dice' :

Kihia nodded at Talen, he chose not to say anything noticing the reluctance of his companion. He stood back up and rested Icarus onto his right shoulder, and resumed observing his surroundings. Kihia jumped when Talen shouted, and looked to where the celestial mage was pointing at, and indeed there was the flower they were looking for. He then froze when he noticed the creatures coming out of the bushes towards the group.  Kihia sighed and started spinning Icarus, A pack of four wolves, three goblins, and another lone wolf… Kihia then took a quick glance towards Talen’s direction to make sure he had a clear shot to his targets and said “Ice make…Ring!” Kihia nodded, he had a clear shot and the enemies were approaching slowly this time, probably due to they didn’t know how the other creatures that would react. Kihia stopped spinning Icarus and held it out in front of him; Kihia doubled checked his targets and planned a flight path that wouldn’t damage the flower. “Ice make…Spear storm!” Kihia launched multiple Ice spears towards the approaching creatures standing still to aim each one accordingly.

Three Ice spears flew towards the Goblins, each one impaling a different goblin in the chest, killing them. Another set of three ice spears flew towards the lone wolf striking two of its legs and one into its thigh. The remaining Ice spears were split up between two of the wolves in the wolf pack. When they impacted the wolves, they let out a yelp and fell still. Kihia nodded satisfied with the results of his attack, without wasting a second Kihia rushed passed Talen, towards the remains of the wolf pack.

Talen was impressed by how quickly Kihia had dispatched the enemies that had appeared. Just two spells had finished 5 enemies and injured the rest. Talen had seen make magic before but Kihia was very impressive. Well, Talen thought, I better show him I'm not weak either.

Talen took out one of his keys, saying as he did so, "Gate of the Gambler, I open thee, Melissa!" The female spirit walked out of the doorway to the spirit world, a large smile on her face. "Hey Talen!" Melissa said, she almost seemed to not notice the monsters around them. "Its been a wile, hows it going?" One of the wolfs started to walk towards the two of them, bearing its fangs and growling lightly. Melissa casually took out her deck and pulled a card out. "You never seem to summon me during a mission, why is that?" She then through the card at the wolf saying as she did so, "Ace of hearts!" The card flow into the wolf, exploding when it hit sending the wolf flying back. "Well," Talen said as he took a small log from the ground and charged at the wolf, "you do take half the reward." Talen brought the branch down on top of the wolf, and watched the wolf stop moving.

Melissa now turned to the next wolf, it seemed a bit more cautious after seeing what happened to its companion. Melissa took out another one of her cards and launched it at the wolf, however the  card missed and went flying at the flower, "No!!" Talen shouted and he dived at the flower. He managed to get between the card and the flower. When the card hit his chest it exploded, causing him to grunt in pain.

"Talen!" the gambler spirit said with a gasp. Melissa had a furious look on her face as she immediately took out her deck and through two cards at the wolf. One hit the wolf in the face causing the wolf the slide back a few inches. The second card went flying past the wolf and hit a tree, blasting a chunk out of the base. The tree groaned for a moment before falling on top of the wolf, finishing it off. Melissa ran to Talen's side and bent down over him. "Are you okay?" she asked with a slight, compassionate smile. "I'm fine" Talen said as he sat up. "And that's why i don't summon you for missions, amplified luck," he rubbed his chest tenderly, there was a decent sized hole in his shirt, "In both directions."

Kihia quickly stopped his advanced when he noticed Talen had summoned Melissa and had engaged the rest of the wolf pack. He quickly jumped out of the way to prevent himself from getting hit by the celestial spirits attacks. He saw Talen pick up a branch and finish off one of the wolves, he smiled gently, Well he definitely can hold his own in combat… Kihia then noticed one Melissa’s cards miss her target and go flying towards the flower, he tensed and got ready to charge intercept it. Kihia then saw Talen jump in between the card and the flower, I can’t get there in time! The card impacted into Talen’s chest, Kihia stood there for a moment trying to confirm that Talen was ok. He barely had noticed Melissa had defeated the last wolf from the pack and had started to run over to Talen side. Kihia turned to start moving towards Talen, when he felt Icarus hit something in the turn. He then whipped around to see the last wolf falling down from attempting to pounce on Kihia. He then dashed towards the last wolf, and swung Icarus down onto slamming it into the ground. Kihia followed up the attack by thrusting one end of Icarus down onto the wolf’s head to finish it off. Kihia was shaken from Talen taking hit of the card that missed; he turned around to look at Talen and Melissa. He observed them; Melissa was kneeling beside Talen who was sitting up. Kihia quietly walked over to Talen and Melissa, trying to hold his emotions at bay. When he got to them, Kihia just stood their coldly staring at Talen, after a moment he said, in shaky voice, “Next time… let me get hit instead please…” Kihia stood there for a moment longer, and then walked over to retrieve the flower.

They had gotten back to the medicinal shop, gave the shop owner the rare flower. He gave his thanks and handed Kihia the two thousand jewel reward. Kihia nodded at the shop keeper, he wasn’t in a talking mood since he was still shaken by Talen’s action. He split up the reward and Talen his half, Kihia simply nodded and they started their trek back toHargeon town.
