As the young blunette turned around to face her, Aedre noticed her widened, bright-red eyes and could vaguely sense the reason to the surprise as well. As the young girl muttered something to herself incoherently, the wind roared and the weather only worsened by each passing second.
"W-Who are you? C-Could you be someone who was called for the job?" The girl's voice sounded frail due to the fury that nature was unleashing at the moment, but since Aedre possessed sensitive hearing she could still make it out somehow.
"Mhm, here for the job as well. Name's Aedre." The pinkette stated, as always keeping her last name and affiliation a secret, even though it was common among mages to reveal both. "I'm Blanc from the guild of Blue Pegasus" She heard the girl introducing herself and only gave a small, reassuring smile while returning the shake as a friendly gesture. A second later, some realization seemed to hit Blanc, "Aedre, do you perhaps have some magic to recover Cheria from her icy coffin?"
The young girl stood up and so did Aedre, dusting off some snow from her pants. Looking at the feline in Blanc's arms, the young woman noticed the ice that entrapped her. Aedre's lips quivered for a second to say something, but closed again, concluding with another nod as she gently picked the cat from the blunette's hands.
"I can try atleast." She mumbled, as a substantial amount of water and steam was released from the tip of her fingers. The liquid was burning hot now, melting the ice successfully and a feeble fire of hope might have instilled itself into its owner.
But just then, "A-Aedre... come here and look."
At the beck, the Slayer looked up to the direction that Blanc faced, only to see several dog-like creatures running in their direction, their noisy stomps and growls clearly heard by both the Slayers.
In normal conditions, Aedre would have stayed where she was and fight these beasts, but with a frost-bitten feline and a young girl by her side, the pinkette lost most of her confidence. She had to take care of both of them and even though, the fact that Blanc was a mage could be considered assuring; in edre's eyes, the young girl still seemed to carry a gentle aura around her. She didn't look all that ready for a battle yet, especially not with her companion being in such a state. Aedre's eyes turned to look at the road that led straight to the village center and then back to the approaching beasts. They had to get away somehow.
"Blanc, I think we have to... RUN!"
She waited for the girl's reaction for a second, but getting nothing much, a strong sigh left the Slayer's lips.
'I have to this then.' She concluded, holding the cat with one hand and rushing to Blanc's direction in a slightly crouched position. Without a second's delay Aedre picked the girl up in an impromptu fireman's carry, her vision locked onto the wolves that were fast approaching.
Turning around, the young woman focused and set off in all her speed, using her shadow form to increase it as much as possible. So to an onlooker, the three of them might just look like a mass of black swishing past.
"Sorry for this... but we have to get Cheria better. Besides, there's someone else on this job with us. I'm hoping that they'll expect us to meet at the village center and that's where we're headed to." Aedre explained, feeling slightly guilty for Blanc's condition, which could have been slightly uncomfortable.
Nearing the village square, the Slayer dropped her speed tremendously, before finally stopping and letting the girl down gently. They were standing next to an age old statue, covered head to toe in snow, so that not a single soul could figure out who or what the statue was about.
She placed Cheria down on the slab that served as the base for the little monument, while rubbing the back of her neck and thinking of making it any better for the feline, who was still in a state of near-unconsciousness.
'Here goes nothing.'
Placing both her hands some inches away from Cheria, Aedre made a little bubble of water with some concentration. It covered the cat from all sides, as it was hollow inside, except for some kind of steam; which was a mixture of oxygen and some heat. The bubble floated safely in mid-air and Aedre turned to face Blanc, "Its warm so it should help her. She can even break out of it anytime she feels like."
The sound of hooves and growls were back and in the near periphery of the Slayer's vision, she could see the wolves coming once again, this time with more numbers.
"Now that Cheria is safe, its time to have a real battle." The pinkette stated, cracking her knuckles as a gentle yawn escaped her; only to be stifled with graceful mannerisms.
'This better gets interesting.'
