Now that I'm head of Intelligence for the Rune Knights, I intend to revive them and make them worth playing.
There is next to no motivation to be a Rune Knight for most people because they cannot see any benefits to it.
In addition to providing some benefits, I would like to set a dynamic system in place to make people feel more like a Rune Knight. To feel more like they're a part of something, and to make the organization feel more alive.
I would like to pose a Research and Development system.
With Research and Development, I would like it if there was a way for Rune Knights who are active to gain "R&D" from their rank ups. Rune Knights who gain R&D are capable of contributing to a group pool of research that benefits the group as a whole.
The pool of Research would be used to create equipment that Rune Knights can call upon through use of their Rune Knight badge. Their rank balanced with their position in the Rune Knights would allow them access to higher clearance for various equipment.
The equipment would be staged at different clearance levels and a Rune Knight could only request clearance for so much at once. For IC sake, Clearance requests would be handled automatically and not by an actual person (IC), to avoid instances where the Operator should have granted excess clearance in life threatening situations. To keep it balanced out and not willy-nilly.
Though higher clearance does seem like something that should be issued to someone in threatening situations. It can be something to think about.
Clearance would be granted and the badge would call in the equipment one way or another for their use.
I can imagine a Rune Knight in plain clothes calling in a case and getting clearance then changing in typical anime showy fashion into a Rune Knight uniform with a pursuit set up to give chase.
Similar to all this there should be a level of standardized equipment freely available to Rune Knights of certain ranks. The Rune Knights are the defenders of the kingdom, they rebuild cities, they challenge armies- they are an army- and they protect royalty and citizens alike, they keep mages in line. They're legit.
Yet they don't have no standardized equipment? They'd hardly expect their knights to go ask the rampaging mage politely to please stop, and surely they would and no one would get hurt. Their Knights would have a level of standard protection, and a means to defend themselves and a means to communicate with the rest of the force.
So, think about it. Rune Knights don't currently have any benefit except that which we assume we have. But assumptions can only go so far, especially when not mechanically supported by the OOC.
I don't really have a system in mind myself, I just have rough ideas such as I've shared. The idea is to get SOMETHING out there for the Rune Knights to give us some semblance of organization and some sort of reason for people to decide "Yea, I wanna be a Rune Knight." as a legit option when compared to the opportunity to do something like be a guild master for 3-4 H-rank spells, auto-rank up, guild events, and special guild related things such as a "Guild Weapon" and the "Guild Ship".
I'd be happy with almost anything reasonable and not the equivalent of being thrown a candy bar when everyone else is eating fancy cake. As well as some guidelines of things Rune Knights can do.
