The King of Thieves || Ao, Kari, and Adessa

The sun was hot overhead as she peeked through a pair of binoculars. They departed from Hargeon yesterday, and had only arrived in the desert this morning. After a few hours of walking, they rested on a hot sand dune. Kariline searched for the Head Quarters of these infamous thieves. The information they received said that they ran off into the desert, and they made refugee in a old ruin. Even with all this sand she should be able to spot something.

And there it was! In the far distance, she seen a glimmer, and a white shade bounced over the sane, it led her sight straight to the ruins, which laid to the east of them. It was barely a mile out, but glancing it over, she seen that the color blended in with the sand dune right next to it, moving camouflage.

She stood up and looked at her teammates, which were probably drained from the hot heat. Looking to the west, the sun was already starting to set, setting out now would mean they would reach it when it got dark, this could be good for sneaking up on their base. They still had a mile walk. Thirty more minutes of rest, and then they would go get that Lacrima!!

"Alright guys, or actually, Girls. We will head out in about twenty to thirty more minutes, i spotted thier base to the east, i advise waiting till the sun descends before advancing, as the cool air would make us feel better and it can provide darker cover for entering the base." She thought about other ways it would be possible to enter without being detected, she could use her Metal Magic Demon to possibly dig their way under, but sand is so unpredictable.

The heat, the heat was unbearable. Ao was just somehow still walking behind her two partners for the job. Wearing a beanie for a job in a desert was cruel for her but she hadn't shown anyone her cat ears yet so she had to put up with it. When they finally stopped Ao collapsed due to exhaustion. She didn't like warm weather, but it was better than cold. She somewhat heard what Kariline was saying but not a lot, she just heard what she wanted. Like that they will probably go in shade, which was the most glorious news Ao had heard all day. She just crawled into a small shade she found and made a sound that sort of could be recognized as purring. It might have pulled their attention but the next thing definitely would. While in her sleepy state Ao accidentally took off her hat, letting her cat ears pop up.

She got some sand in her eyes, which made her wake up and when she saw their faces, Ao felt something was missing. Her hat, she yelled, causing a small sonic scream but nothing big. She was embarrassed and felt like a liar for not telling her team mates this. I'm sorry for not telling you this. She was on the edge of crying.

Out of the 3 people that walked to the desert, only Adessa seemed to have the common sense of bringing liquids to the desert. Really team mates could you have more common sense than this? She simply drank her water flavored with orange drops in it and had an ice cream bar that was melting. Thanks to the invention of coolers and ice, she had enough beverages to hydrate the whole group. However nobody ever bothered to ask why she was carrying a cooler with her, but did they even know what a cooler was the main issue. Damn inferior teched Fiorians.

Adessa spoke up, “So tell me the reason why I have to wear clothes in somewhere so hot? Doesn’t make any sense at all.” She continued on foot until they got to the shade. She put her stuff down and opened a cooler to pull a can of soda out that was refrigerated by the cooler. She then casually started drinking when Ao pulled her hat off. She raised one eyebrow and walked up to the crying Ao and said, “Oh my god you are so cute!” She started to cutely pinch Ao’s cheek while whispering so only catgirl could hear, “When we get back to Lamia Scale there will be so much tests~”

Walking over with the group she kept her eyes on the horizon. It was almost about time. Kariline looked over at Adessa; the crazy scientist girl, and Ao; the shy girl. She sighed, this was all for a purpose, she made it a critical reason to check out how each person used and prioritized their magic. Not only for reasons that could harm her, it was good to know the people that are closer to her. Plus they wanted to be part of a team, how could they attribute themselves?

The sun finally fell beyond the sun dunes, and a few moments later it was dark. She noticed something odd between Ao, and Adessa. Something about a hat, but she paid no mind, she couldn't afford to lose focus. " Alright, its time." She said before taking a stance and sprinting off into the desert. She knew tho others would follow, but they wouldn't have much time. for the past half hour or so, Kariline was studying the patrols of the guards, to time out their movement. To avoid a large tangle, if they could pick off the pawns, the king wouldn't be a problem. As the Saying went, " The pawns make the king."

As she got closer, three thieves noticed their advance and ran out to greet the girls.

'Monster Dice' :

Ao smiled at Adessas response, she hadn't felt happier in a long time.  She wiped off her tears and got up. Now actually paying attention to Kariline. She listened to what Kariline was saying, while stuffing her hat into her bag. Ao looked at Adessa for a second but turned away almost instantly, she was still shocked by Adessa for calling her cute, no one had done that before, not even her own family.

Ao sighed as she heard Kariline say it was time to attack. She wasn't really in the mood to fight, even though she enjoyed it weirdly. There usually wasn't things better in her life than the fights she had been in but hopefully this would change today. As she fought together with others for the first time in her life. And when they walked towards the cartels base, three men suddenly ran towards them. They looked fairly strong but no matter.

As the men closed in, Ao took in a deeb breath and yelled, Sound Pulse. A red circle appeared from Aos mouth and hit one of the men straight on, sending him backwards a little bit. The sound wave had caused an incredibly loud noice, which did seem to affect everyone there, including Aos team mate. Oops, sorry about that.

Adessa stood there for a bit longer, but just casually drank more soda. She sighed softly, this was going to be an interesting fight to say the least.  Adessa pulled something out of her pack that looked like robotic combat gloves, saying “Made these for you. They are called Shotgun gloves, I needed them field tested.” In fact Adessa did not know if they even worked.

There was not simply 3 people running up, but 3 from the left and 4 on the right.  Thankfully the 2 groups were spread apart so if they took them out quietly… Nope Ao ruined any chance of stealth by screaming at them from top of their lungs. Or one of them, it mattered little because her scream caused Adessa to cringe. How was that going to help the team if it hurts them at process? She needed to be away from the group to not hurt them…

It was then that Adessa told Kariline, “I have an idea, but it may be a bit… unorthodox even for me.” With little to no warning Adessa grabbed Ao by the waist and lifted her up. She lifted her up and ran at the fighters. It was then she threw Ao like a football yelling, “Ao grenade!” Her plan was to have Ao’s screams cause damage where it most hurt. Adessa would follow up in the chaos right after her, one of her arm converting to a blade. There was an evil happy sadistic smile on her face, Adessa was going to have so much fun.

Spoiler:

Taking the gloves from Adessa she grinned, wow, this was unexpected. Kariline slipped them on, a perfect fit. The felt snug around every curve of her hand, but how was that possible? She glared at Adessa, was she taking measurements in her sleep? With a quick swift motion she pulled on the string that was on her fore finger. An explosion left the glove and it pulled Kariline forward. She grinned. This was going to be fun.

Looking back she seen Ao let off a scream, It rang in her own ears and she gritted her teeth. When she said that her magic was sonic power, Kariline did not expect this. This was defiantly going to put a hurt on her plan. Suddenly her scream attracted more, so much for a tactical entrance.

She watched as Adessa picked up Ao and threw her, heh not a bad plan. She grinned, this mission was going to be more of a game than anything with these two. She charged in at the men and using her new gauntlets, she let off an explosion and pounded one right in the gut, sending him flying back past the rest that charged them

Ao was happy with her attack, she wasn't that strong at the moment, even if her magic had the potential to be strong. She looked a lot happier than before but this happiness was a shirt one as Adessa picked her up. Adessa threw Ao at the two men that were still running at them. This seemed to shock them, but the one who was most shocked was Ao. She landed not on her feet but on her bottom and not on the ground either. She had somehow landed on one of the men, but as she didn't weigh almost nothing the man just stood up and looked angrily at Ao.

Ao was scared to the bottom of her hearth, she didn't know what to do, so her instincts took over. Tears started to fall from her eyes and her mouth was shivering. The men looked confused, why was this girl crying all of a sudden, but then it happened. Aos crying went from regular to almost sonic, the noise was deafening for a few second and covering enough area to reach Adessa. The men fell over, as they were close to the source, they tried to calm Ao down, but before any serious damage was done to them, Aos scream stopped. Crying that loudly was extremely exhausting for Ao. She fell on her back, trying to catch her breath.

Adessa’s plan worked like a charm, there was a satisfying loud enough scream that filled the air and the group of three people fell to the ground. Adessa still grunted from the pain in the ears, but nothing to different. She was going to need an Aspirin afterwards when this was done, her head was already splitting from Ao screams. This was going to require ear plugs if they were going to work together again or train to not hit allies. This was going to be a serious problem in future, but despite the pain Adessa pushed through.

Adessa rushed towards the first downed person and jammed down the sword into the man’s throat. There was the sound of blood gurgling in the man’s throat and then nothing but silence. As she pulled the blade out there was a minor fountain of blood from a nicked artery that sprayed Adessa and Ao all over them. This felt good, the battle was just started and already her heart was pounding. Was this what mages felt when they did their jobs? Maybe not exactly, but as the blood sprayed there was a single comment. Adessa looked at tired Ao and said, “Good work Ao. You get ice cream later.”
