The Rarest Flower (Rita and Lance)

Job Information:

Rita scanned the request board that sat in the guild hall. She looked at the jobs trying to find the easiest one with the greatest pay. a '2000J' reward caught her eye. It wasn't all that much cash but the job seemed easy enough. She ripped down the flyer examining it. "All I've gotta do Is find a flower,eh?" Rita thought looking at the top of the flyer. The freshly recruited fairy read further in learning that the forest had a 'few' problems with wolfs she sighed thinking it might be to much. Just as she was about to put the flyer back on the board she saw Lance sitting down beside Lea like he usually was. She look down at the flyer than back to Lance."Hmmm" the shadow wizard thought  putting her hand to her chin.

She set her plan into action. Rita purposely paraded right past Lance with her request in hand. The wizard moved towards the front door pressing her hand on it before turning back. "I'm going out on this job!~" She called out to the guild "Oh. I sure hope I don't get hurt while I'm away! I'll have to go through a dark and scary forest infested with dangerous things how could a poor little girl like me survive such traumatic conditions all alone!~" She called out counterfeiting her words the best she could to get Lances attention.

Lance sat at a table talking to Lea when he heard Rita shouting something "I'm going out on this job!~" She said as she was about to walk out the door but then continued "Oh. I sure hope I don't get hurt while I'm away! I'll have to go through a dark and scary forest infested with dangerous things how could a poor little girl like me survive such traumatic conditions all alone!~" she said and then it became clear to Lance what she was trying to do. He stood up and stretched and Lea did the same "I will be going to..." he said with a sigh as he put on his jacket and followed Rita out the door.

When they were in the streets he looked at Rita with a smile "Looks like I will be accompanying you along with Lea." He said as he rubbed the back of his head laughing a little "So, were to?" He said taking a look at the flyer "Spooky forest eh?" he mumbled then nodded "Alright then lets go!"

Rita looked back at Lance a bit curious as they tread the streets of Magnolia "You sure it is safe for her to tag along, I mean I wasn't joking when there was all sorts of dangerous stuff in this forest." The wizard quietly asked her partner in a bit of a concerned tone. She glanced back down at the parchment in her hands. "Especially wolves..." Rita whispered re scanning the job . "I'm not forcing you to do anything Lance." She began briefly. "I don't want to see her get hurt Lance..."

Given the time to travel to there destination just out side of Magnolia, they made it to the outskirts of the forest. The path layed out ahead of them was lined by tangled masses of branches and other vegetation. The whole forest was dark and eery at a glance. Rita looked down at Lea concerned before kneeling down to speak to her on eye level. "Listen you don't need to come with us if you don't want i'm sure one of Lance's friends can watch after you until we get back." Rita said trying to convince Lea  that this was possibly dangerous, Especially for a child.

Lance walked behind Rita as she expressed her concerns for Lea "Its fine if she tags along. She has been itching to go out onto the field with me for a long time and this will be perfect." he said as he stared at Lea who was watching a butterfly flutter past her. "You know Lea, if you don't want to go on this job its fine." Lance said patting Lea on the head. Lea shook her head "No dad I want to go with you..." she said and Lance shrugged before turning to Rita "There you have it." he said with a smirk as he continued on.

Lea had been a baby all her life and was treated like one as well. She thought that this job was the perfect time to prove to her dad that she was strong.

Lance caught up to Rita and smiled "Lead the way Rita." he said as he stayed close behind her.

Rita sighed and shook her head leading her group further into the forest. "We best be going then, The sooner we get this job done the sooner we can get back to Magnolia." Rita mumbled as she walked on ahead of Lance. It was like one of those scenes from a horror movie. everything was still and quiet all until she stepped on a twig on the path that let out a 'snap'.

The sound was followed by a faint growling. Rita turned back to Lance cautiously. "That wasn't your stomach was it?..." She whispered now hearing rustling from the bushes around them. Rita started in a glare at Lance looking back to Lea "Lance, Keep an ey-"

out from behind the tangled mass of trees and shrubs darted four streaks of silver. One of  wolfs lunged at Rita sending her tumbling against a tree stump. The wolf snarled at Rita as it bared its teeth howled. Fangs ready it charged for her. "Sha-Shadow Make:S-Sword!" Rita stuttered. The beasts fangs were  now inches away from her neck being held back by a fragile magic conjured short sword

By now the rest of the pack was charging for Lea and Lance, claws and fangs outstretched. Rita turned at this still holding the one wolf back with her unstable weapon. "Trust me, I've got this- Just keep Lea out of this!" Rita shouted turning back to the wolf with a glare as her blade remained to hold up against its jaws.

'Monster Dice' :

Lance got caught off guard by the sudden entry of the wolves. He noticed that in an attempt to save Lea Rita did a spell the made a sword appear in her hands. he pushed Lea back a little "Stay here." he told her as he faced the wolves running at him "Rita be careful." he told her as he closed his eyes and thought about wolves. "Shadow claws..." he mumbled as claws sprouted out of his hands, they had shadowy auras around them.

He ran at the wolves and jabbed one of them in the side with his claws and making it wince a little. the other wolves surrounded him and started growling. He looked around and smirked as he crossed his arms "Dusk blade!" he said as a sword appeared behind him and when he released his arms the swords separated into five and sped towards the wolves. Two of the swords got one wolf while another wolf easily jumped around them.

The remaining two wolves growled as they leaped towards him. The now poisoned wolf scratched his leg as the other one jumped up and bit his arm. The wolves growled and refused to let go as Lance winced in pain. In an act to break free Lance got his free arm and stabbed the wolf that was on his arm and flung the wolf on his leg away. The wolf that he had stabbed let go and was poisoned while the wolf that was on his leg was detached from his leg but was no harmed from the throw. "Its not nice to sneak up on people like that..." he told the wolves as he held his arm in pain.

She kept a strong hold on her weapon as the beasts jaws crushed down against it. The blade was unstable enough and the crushing weight of the wolfs fangs did not help. Fragile, The blade began to crack all until the blade shattered into pieces that eventually evaporated into magic dust. Just in time Rita defended her throat with her hand. The wolfs  fangs sunk into her palm forcefully as she struggled to reach her weapon to no avail. Her back had been plowed against a tree and she couldn't get to it in this position, But the fairy wasn't going to give up so easily. She balled up her free hand into a fist and hurled it into the side of the animals skull. The wolf's teeth let go of her hand and It let out a whine as it was knocked to the ground. They both staggered back to their feet quickly. Rita looked down to her blooded fist seeing the damage the animal had inflicted on it. The wizard released a dry chuckle as she retrieved an oddly short appearing scythe from her back. Rita flicked the stem of the weapon downwards as it extended, The killing machine now towered down on the wolf standing at 6 feet. Lacking any hesitation  she struck down on the beast as the it yelped in pain that sank into silence.

Rita let out a relieved sigh. Now that they were all gone. She walked past Lance and knelt down patting Lea on the head with her bloodied hand relived that she wasn't injured. "Heh... Sorry about that you okay rookie?" Rita asked the child. Before Lea or Lance had a chance to say something Rita was nailed in the head with a stone. She grimaced putting her hand to her head smearing her blood. She turned to see a group of 6 goblins holding the rocks backed up by about 12 of their wolf friends. Each and everyone on them looked absolutely pissed. "Lance... Whatever you don't try anything stupid..." Rita muttered as she readied her scythe.

Lance sighed as six goblins and twelve wolves that looked pretty pissed come out of the forest, ready to attack. Lance took a step back and was ready to run when Lex started speaking to him "What are you doing? Don't run... Face the monsters before you, protect Rita, get that flower and get the hell out of this hellhole!" Lex told him and Lance smiled and nodded before a sword appeared in his hands "Sorry Rita but if I have to protect you, I will do something stupid." Lance said with a smirk as he got ready to attack.

Lea looked around cautiously at the fight that was about to start then started looking around before spotting a flower of particular interest to her and grabbed it before putting it in her pocket and turning to Lance with her arms thrust outwards "Ready when you are Dad!" Lea said smiling a bit.

"As if, You truly are stupid if you think i'm gonna sit around and let you do the fun part by yourself." Rita insisted brushing some dirt off of her. She looked at Lea and grinned. "Those goblins don't looks so tough I bet you can easily smash em' into next week." Rita encouraged Lea as she cleaned the blood away from her scythe with her sleeve.

The Fairy wasn't about to let Lance out do her, she swung her scythe sending dust in the air, and with that she vanished all together. Before anyone knew it she reappeared behind the group of monsters. She brought her weapon to one of the wolfs side. It let out a whine for it didn't know what hit them. The animal spiraled around to face her along with the rest of the pack. Rita regretted her decisions and wished she had split the wolfs up before bothering to attack head on, because now the whole feud seemed even more menacing, bearing their teeth at her as they snarled and growled.

the first to strike back was none other than the animal she had struck in the first place. It lunged at her but she parried the attack by springing onto its back and using it as a push off to attack another member of the cluster, crushing its back while she was at it she sent a scythe into the next wolfs skull.

Monster Counter:

"Those goblins don't looks so tough I bet you can easily smash em' into next week." Rita said and Lea shrugged "I am more than a healer than a fighter....." she started but smirked at Lance then continued "mom." she said then started laughing as Lance's eye started twitching "L-Lea!!!" Lance stuttered when he drew his sword as a wolf ran at him and he stabbed it in the side. The wolf winced a little as he clawed Lance in his bleeding hand and Lance returned with a hard kick to the side. The wolf dropped down and Lance turned away from Lea and Rita, trying to hide his blushing face "Lets just get this fight over with!" he said as he put on his hood and charged at another wolf sending two really hard jabs to its skull. Lance kept quiet as Lea's laughter could be heard in the back.

The wolves had become a bit less menacing a more scared like as the two wolves Lance had killed went down, but either way they weren't going to back down. Lance grimaced as he lifted his sword into the air "Give me the power of your squad Shadow King! I call fourth the squad of shadows!" he said loudly as four shadows in the form of archers and soldiers came out of the ground and stood behind Lance as they got surrounded by the rest of the wolves "Ok, I want the archers to shoot two arrows each and the soldiers I want to hit two times!" Lance said with a determined look on his face. The shadows nodded as they got their bows and swords ready. The archers both shot two arrows each making two wolves go down and the soldiers stabbed two times each making two more wolves go down. the rest of the wolves took down each of the shadows in one slice as once of the wolves jumped toward Lance. Lance blocked it with his sword but as the wolf applied force to it Lance winced a little "Its ok Rita.... handle the rest of the wolves... I got this...one..." Lance muttered as the sword slowly started to slip out of his hand as blood dripped from it. Lea stared in fear at her dad and started to have tears in her eyes "Rita, help dad please!" she said in a shaky voice. The goblins stepped back and readied to throw their rocks.

Rita was put right in the middle in the next course of events. She could Listen to the pleading Lea and help Lance allowing her to be pelted with stones. Or she could listen to Lance and leave him to fend of this wolf and protect Lea.

The Fairy had something allot better in mind, She was never good at picking sides so she wasn't going to pick a side in the end.  She watched as the goblins were about to fire a round of stones at Lea, Rita wasn't going to let that happen. "Shadow make: Wall" She shouted crossing her arms over one another  as the creatures sent the rocks for the child. Will that her shadow stretched out from under her towards Lea. just in time It shot out of the ground creating a thin 5 by 5 barrier in front of her that the rocks bounced off of.

Rita refused to Let that little girl down for she planned to aid Lance as well. Rita could tell by The way Lance handled his weapon showed that it was not a stable block. Rita wasn't going to let him take more of a beating than he needed to in front of his child. She took a step back sliding her feet into position on the ground. The girl was either REALLY reckless or REALLY committed because she charged right for Lance who was dealing with the wolf. With all the force she could conjure she shoved Lance away from the wolf pushing him down into the dirt.

Finally exposed an opening the beast lunged at Rita who had just pushed her way in front of it. It was a good hit, for the wolf at least...

Rita had been sent to the ground and her scythe had been knocked out of her grasp laying 5 feet away from her. The wolf got her. Its teeth had sunk into the right side of the girls neck. blood gushed down her guild crest that had been branded on her neck the day she shyly crept into that guild hall.

The wolf's jaws had punctured a external-jugular vein in her neck and she was lucky it hadn't been her trachea, but the strike could still easily kill her by now she was practically pouring blood from her neck while the animal just kept tearing into the wound causing Rita to cringe and grit her teeth in pain.

Lance got shoved away just in time and got up holding his arm "What the hell?!" he said he staggered up and saw that the wolf was mauling Rita. He was pissed now he got his sword out and growled as he ran toward the wolf "DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIE" he shouted as he jumped up into the air and landed on top of the wolf. The wolf winced as Lance jumped off "Screw you..." Lance muttered as he brought his sword down and sliced the wolfs arm off and kicked it across the field.

His body erupted in a black, purple and red aura as he turned towards the remaining three wolves. He lunged towards them and kicked the first one in the side the punched it. He turned to see another wolf jumping at him and he quickly brought his sword up and the wolves head came off. The final wolf whimpered as Lance walked towards it with a shade covering his eyes "This will teach you a lesson not to mess with me..." he said as he stomped the wolf into the ground and stabbed it.

Lance put his sword away but as soon as he did he was pelted in the head with 6 rocks and Lance fell to the ground, knocked out from blood loss and pain. Lea covered her mouth as she saw her dad on the ground bruised and beaten. She put her hands in front of her, closed her eyes and started chanting "Guarded by day, Guarded by night, forces of light and dark combine to protect the people that I love most." she said as an a yellow seal appeared from under her feet and exploded in a mass of yellow sparkles appeared from her and landed on Rita and Lance (The sparkles heal the bleeding a bit and heals 10% of HP for me and you).

Lance got up smiling "Thanks Lea..." he said weakly as he shakily crossed his hands over his chest "Dusk BLADE!" he yelled as a sword behind him appeared with a black aura around it and when he flung his arms out the sword flew towards the goblins then separated into five. Each of the sword hit one goblin and after the dust cleared Lance could be seen on top of the Last goblin with his sword through it.

He hopped off the goblin and walked over to Rita as he pulled his shirt off "You need this?" he said before bursting out in laughter and putting his shirt back on before pulling out some bandages. As he bandaged Rita's neck up he grimaced "Sorry we couldn't find the flower... lets go to the client and tell him we failed.... we cant take any more fighting..." Lance said sadly as he helped Rita up and started walking to the clients house.

Rita watched as Lance took out the wolf that had nearly ended her along with its friends.He apparently had over done himself in the process, for he collapsed but Lea quickly changed that. Her spell didn't do Rita much good, She still could feel herself practically dying but she wasn't loosing blood as quickly as before.

On the other hand, Lance now had enough strength to finish off the enemy. He quickly finished the job, disposing of the goblins before he tuned his attention back to his guild mate. Rita gave an un-amused look as Lance made a little joke about the shirt, referring to something that had happened before. "Now isn't the time to be making jokes." She wanted to snap at him but she kept her mouth shut so he could patch her up somewhat with the bandages that he had.

"Sorry we couldn't find the flower... lets go to the client and tell him we failed.... we cant take any more fighting..." Rita  gave a nod in response as she was helped to her feet.

By the time they made it out of the forest Rita was using her scythe to stay balanced. As they approached town Rita looked over at Lance examining his injuries that she had missed. She wanted to say something but just silently blamed herself for taking him along. In due time, The two reached the job address, A  drug store. The place seemed relatively old and need of repair but the two approached they would approach the building anyway.

Lance sighed as used his sword the walk. As they walked into the drug store he placed the flyer on the counter "We couldn't find your flower..." Lance muttered "We are sorry... We cant fight anymore..." He said weakly as he looked at the guy. The guy nodded "I understand..." he said as he looked at Lea with interest as he saw a flower sticking out of her pocket "You there... Little girl..." he said as they were walking out and Lea turned around "Hmm?" she said as the man smiled "That flower in your pocket! That's the one I we are looking for!" he said as Lea pulled out the flower and gave it to him and in return the man thanked the group and gave them a bag a jewels.

Back on the streets of Magnolia Lance smiled at Rita "I told you Lea would come in handy" he said as he patted Lea on the shoulder "If she wasn't there we probably wouldn't still be alive." he said as he picked up Lea and put her on his back. "I also wanted to say thanks... for taking me on this job..." he muttered as he held open the doors of the guild and then collapsed in a seat "That... was... tiring..." he laughed and then smiled at Rita "I look forward to working with you next time!" he said with a smile.

It was quite the turn out. Lea had the flower with her all along so the job was not a total loss after all! Rita wanted to jump for joy as she and Lance received their reward anyway. The two Left the drug store relatively happy despite there sore and bruised bodies.

Back outside Lance told Rita how it was a good choice after all how they had taken his little daughter along."I also wanted to say thanks... for taking me on this job..." He started."I look forward to working with you next time!"He finished with a smile. Rita did not expect to hear this from Lance, she all thought it was a mistake taking him along, but it made all the difference If he wasn't there to take out all the wolfs Rita could easily been in a grave by now. "Well..." She began shyly. "I also wanted to thank you Lance, for being there  to help me out in the end." Rita said returning the grin. In that moment Rita quickly pecked Lance on the cheek and then ran off. She turned back and waved goodbye to Lance briefly before she had to get going so he would not see that her face had gone red.
