Job: Why Did the Sky Stop Crying?
    Rank: A
    Job Location: Forgotten Desert
Player Requirements: Two B-Ranks allowed, higher levels allowed. 4 mages max for a team, must be at least a minimum of 30 posts long, 550 word min per post. The monster dice must be rolled a total of 15 times in this thread.
Job Requirements: Help the researchers or guard them as they fix the Water Lacrima on the sky platform that produces artificial rains for the desert. Doing both will earn more .
    Job Description:
Welcome to Project Oasis. I'm Knalla, head of the Magic Science division of the Magic Council. If your reading this, then you want to know just what Project Oasis is. Well, I'll tell you. Were bringing rain to the desert. With regular science, it would be impossible. However, were talking about magic here. Well, a massive magical object, to be precise. We have placed a gigantic water lacrima inside the clouds above the desert sands. It seemed to going pretty well, until there was a freak lightning storm that struck the lacrima and damaged it. I need you to go out there, via airship, and either help fix the damn thing or guard the researchers while they work. The sudden aspect of water seems to be bringing in some strange animals around the work site.

    Enemies:
    Weak: Wyning Gulls
These stark white creatures are very easy to see coming. They don't really do much except screech pretty loudly. This wouldn't be so bad if one or two showed up.. but when a flock of thirty do, they have the power to shake the rivets right out of metal. That's not very good on a sky-barge. So, key point. DON'T LET THEM GATHER ALL AT ONCE!

    Normal: Sky Sliders
These birds are pretty freakin' weird. We've never seen anything like them, to be honest. They are birds, that's for sure, but they have the body of a fish. However they fly and breath air. It's quite..confusing to say the least. Anyway, you need to keep these things away from the sky-barge. We use ballasts of air to keep the barg level in the sky, and the fins..wings..whatevers on these baby's are about as sharp as a razor wire. One wrong burst of air and the lacrima, and everyone on board will plummet to the desert floor below. That's bad, by the way.

    Strong: Some..thing.
Okay, I REALLY don't know how to describe these things, other then ugly. Imagine a lizard with wings, that's not a dragon, but tries to act like one. It's massive, about the size of the barge, and can take a direct hit from B-Ranked lightning bolt and smirk. Good thing it doesn't come around often, or the researchers would have quit a long time ago.. We suspect this thing's weakness is it's wings. If you see it, aim for the wings.

    Reward:
Once the lacrima is fixed, your free to leave. If you only helped or guarded, you will only receive 25k jewels each. If you do both jobs, you will receive 20k jewels each.

"In times of strife, friendship is hard to come by. But it is also harder to hold onto. Relish the relations you have and strive to rebuild the ones you've lost, because you never know when you may have the chance to again."

Those lines kept replaying over and over in Alye's mind. She remembered all the people, small or tall, young or old, friend or foe, and if she knew them now. Most she could not say she did. As she sat by the window in her room that sat near the top of the Eclipse Soul Castle, a soft rain was falling over the cobblestones and forestry. Blue eyes looked over the immaculate white room before her. 'It's quiet. Just as quiet as always...' Alye's attention moved back outside where she stared up at the plump clouds. When did this become enough? When did she let this become the norm? Alye's hands gripped the white gown she wore. When did she start pushing everyone away?

Alye thought back. Back to a happier and simpler time. A little smile came to her lips as she remembered her first joining Eclipse Soul. The guildhall was bursting with members and you could always hear someone telling a tale of their mission in the Great Hall. Now? There wasn't a soul talking. Sure the member count was rising, but it paled in comparison to the old guild. Alye remembered always going to bar and being the only one that ordered water. It would always cause Zenshin to chuckle at her.

    Zenshin...

Alye's eyes closed in sadness. When he left the guild, Alye was nothing but angry. It took her some time to calm down and reexamine why. She had been angry with him because she felt like he didn't care about Eclipse Soul at all. That he just cared about power. But looking back, Alye now realized why she was so upset. She had lost a friend and she felt helpless about it. To be prefectly honest, Zenshin had been one of the first persons that Alye actually opened up to. And for him to just leave without even telling her goodbye...

    Alye had been in pain.

She had racked her brain for the longest time to try and see what his reason for leaving was. When she finally realized what it was, she felt like an utter fool. He wasn't doing it for the power. He wasn't doing it for pride. He did it because he wanted to grow and Eclipse Soul couldn't help him anymore. Alye's eyes opened once more as she looked back outside. She could just make out the sun's rays beating through the thick clouds. The white-haired woman hadn't spoken to Zenshin in such a long time...

"Relish the relations you have and strive to rebuild the ones you've lost, because you never know when you may have the chance to again."

If she reached out to him, would he answer? Not as a member of Eclipse Soul, but as Alye. As his old friend. Was she worthy to be in his presence after acting like such a child and cutting herself off from him? Alye's eyes fell upon a pen and paper sitting across from her. Should she do it?

Heavenly fate seemed to answer for her as the sun broke through the clouds and radiant light drifted through Alye's window and fell upon the paper. Alye took a deep breath as she leaned forward and grabbed the pen. She had recently heard about a job in the Forgotten Desert that had intrigued her. Zenshin and herself had been to that place before... Would he come again? There was only one way to find out.

    "Dear Zenshin.

I hope you've been well lately. I know it has been quite a while since we've last spoken, but in these troubling times it better to have friends that you can count on than enemies. I would very much like it if we might see where we stand. If you're interested, there is a job in the Forgotten Desert that could use our talents. It could be a nice way to reminisce about the last time we were there! If you'd like to come, just meet me at the Airship Port in Era. I hope to see you there!

    Sincerely,

    An old friend.

Alye put the pen down and looked over her writing before she sealed it into an envelope and placed it on her nightstand. She grabbed the letter once she had gotten changed into travelwear and took a deep breath before she left to go send it off.

"Sir! A letter addressed to you!" a new member of Sabertooth exclaimed as he panted and handed Zenshin a white envelope. Sir, I don't know how I feel about that. And a letter? I don't get mail he thought as he took it and thanked the eager young mage. He was a bit of a renown figure in Sabertooth at this point, training directly under its guildmaster for six long months. Zen took his finger and stuck it in the edge of the letter, quickly sliding it to the side, tearing it open and revealing the actual note inside. Slowly removing the letter, he hoped it was another person thanking him for saving their village, thank you notes really put him in a good mood. What he read wasn't that, on the contrary, it was a letter that seemed like more of an apology than anything else.

"Dear Zenshin, I hope you've been well lately. Sincerely, An old friend."

Immediately, his brain recognized a few patterns. Old friend... must be a former guild member from Eclipse Soul. Can't be Kyll, I've already met up with her at my old grave site. This is also a bit of a flowery diction, must be a girl. There weren't many girls in Eclipse back then... so it must be Alye. I'm also curious on how we stand. I wonder if Iana would hold it against me if I went on a job with an old friend of mine that happens to be a female. Eh, I bet she won't he eventually concluded, getting off the chair and walking down the steps of the guild. Picking up his trusty straw hat off the table, he reminisced in the memory of how he got the hat. It was one of his first jobs with Alye. Of course, he was oblivious to the fact that she harbored a hate for him when he left, thinking that his note summed it all up pretty well when in fact, it didn't even reach anyone passed her.

A lot had happened in the time he left the guild to this point. For one, he was actually in a relationship, albeit it a dangerous one, it was still one nonetheless. If he'd stayed in Eclipse Soul, it might've been her that he'd try to get into one with, but his decisions and destiny stated otherwise. Other than that, he had spent six months on the Serene Cliff side with his friend and mentor, Aegis Bright, during which he learned many new things, developed new skills, and even gained a few new scars. He hadn't stopped to think about the damage he'd cause with his actions of leaving Eclipse Soul. Zenshin thought that his debt had been repaid to Zeno since he went all berserk and left him for dead in that dreaded castle. He wasn't aware that some people were hurt by his leaving of the guild that had betrayed him and limited his growth as a mage.

I guess I don't have much of a choice, looks like I'm going to Era he thought quietly as he shook his hat to clear a but of the dust off before putting it on and walking out the front door, his next destination was the Era airship docks.

It was a sunny and peaceful day in Era on that shimmering morning. There were a few fluffy streaks of clouds in the sky but it was nothing rain-worthy. Many in the city were milling around doing their daily grind. It was the same as any cosmopolitan scene. As the citizens went about their day, a rouge wind seemed to wash over the city. It wasn't violent, more like refreshing. It's gentle curve washed over the archways and alleys of Era's cityscape. It scaled up the skyline of buildings and seemed to center near the top of the city, where the railways and such were located. The air in the area seemed to intensify just a tad which caused the more observant citizens to look at the sky above them a bit apprehensively. They had nothing to fear however.

The winds seemed to condense even more around the air terminal before there was a small yet somehow gentle mini-tornado which caused everyone around to gasp and move back in awe. Someone called out for everyone else to look at the sky above. Above their heads was a woman with long white hair descending from the heavens. As she neared the ground her hair gently flowed upwards with the wind letting her serene beauty enchant the crowd. Most recognized her immediately. The Wizard Saint, Alye Reyold. Others knew her as the Storm user from the reclusive Eclipse Soul. Once her winds had died down, Alye noticed the people and waved friendly to them. She spent the next twenty minutes giving out autographs or taking pictures with people on their cameras. Once the commotion was gone, Alye told many goodbye and sat herself at a bench to wait for Zenshin. Those passing her would stop and ask why she was at the air terminal when she could probably fly faster herself. She would just politely tell them she was waiting for someone. Some would wish her a nice flight and move on but a few asked her if it was a man. Alye, thinking nothing of it, would say yes. They'd then ask if it was a love interest... her boyfriend. Alye chuckled and told them no promptly. With that, they left too. Alye only smiled as they did. It was a funny thought.

As Alye sat there and took in the city around her she thought back to the missions her and Zenshin had undertaken before. Their first one with that infernal squid was certainly a time she would never forget. Not only because the thing they had been tasked with killing was quite grotesque, nor when Zenshin took it's skin as a some sort of weird pelt, (Alye wondered if he even still had that) or how Reniro got injured. But because of what Zenshin had said at the end of the mission. He had told her his name. It would seem a normal thing to anyone else, but Alye knew how precious that moment had been. How much trust he stocked in her for her to know something so sensitive. That was when Alye could really say that Zenshin had become her friend. That word flashed in her mind again. Friend. Was Zenshin her friend still? Would he acknowledge her request? Would he even bother to show up here? Alye looked towards the entrance of the terminal.

She would find out sooner or later.

Their Reunion [Quest; Alye and Zenshin] Empty Re: Their Reunion [Quest; Alye and Zenshin]

Post by King Zenshin 6th January 2014, 6:59 pm

Making sure that "Promise" was securely sheathed on his back, he set out through the guild doors and into the desert, where he'd traverse to reach the grand city of Era. After he was about halfway there, he stopped and waited, feeling the ground shake under him. A sand worm It came at him like a trait, its head slowly rising up out of the sand until its entire body was halfway submerged in sand. The worm let out a fierce roar and put on a good show, but that's all it really was, a show. Zenshin turned to face it, its distance was something he could only guess at due to recent events. Staring at it, he yelled "Stop!" No dice, it swallowed him hole, causing him to let out a sigh and simply fall throughout the innards of the beast.

Judging at the speed at which it swallowed me, I should be at Era in about ten minutes, assuming he doesn't go and change directions he thought as he removed his sword and dug it as deep as he could into whatever footing was under him. Zenshin jerked to a stop, only able to do so because of the sword that provided support. Three hundred one, two, three the seconds were counted off. Five hundred thirty nine... forty. As the final second was counted off, he pulled back on his weapon, causing a huge gash to form in the lining of the sand worm. Sand began pouring in through the wound, which quickly became much worse as it got scraped against the coarse granules that the beast was so famous for swimming through.

A few more cuts in specific places later, the monster was missing all of its hearts, and with that, stopped moving. Zenshin slowly trudged back up, careful not to cut himself on the bacteria ridden teeth that he narrowly managed to avoid on the way in. Hmm... I don't think I have a souvenir from this yet, I think I'll take a tooth. After cutting out one of its many, many, razor sharp, serrated teeth, he exited the creature. What a ride. I can't show up to the terminal smelling like this though, I'm sure some random Era noble won't mind a surprise visit a thought came to mind. Inside, everything smelled like dead pests, but now that he was out and around one of the most proper cities in Fiore, he could *smell* the difference. So, he made a quick stop at the first house he saw, intruding and using their shower as well as fixing up his clothes with a tailor lacrima that littered the houses of the wealthy.

He felt a bit bad about it, but then he got over it. What were they going to do? Call the Rune Knights on him? If he kept going down the road and all the way to the terminal, he would've disturbed many more than just a small household. Zenshin exited with his newly tailored clothes and thanked the family for this hospitality while waving goodbye and making a beeline for the terminal. A giant crowd surrounded the terminal, huh, somebody's popular he thought as he brushed up against different people to get to the epicenter of the commotion. Although he was a newly inducted Wizard Saint, Zenshin was still as unknown as street urchin in the Oak Town slums, just the way he wanted it.

The background is where he belonged, gathering information and the like. He had no need for the fame that status brought, but it was there regardless of whether he wanted it or not. As he neared her, he bumped into several people, it was like wading through a pool of butter. "Watch where your going pal!" "Shove me again! See what happens!" "The nerve of some people!" all the voices cried out, he ignored all of it. When he finally reached Alye, who was facing away from him, he outstretched a hand to her shoulder, attempting to surprise her from behind. "Assassin! Look out Lady Reyold!" another voice cried as a knife was thrown with near perfect accuracy. Although it was a pretty dead on knife, it wasn't fast enough to actually hit him. In a single movement of his upper body, he grabbed the knife as it was about to pierce his wrist.

"I don't reccomend throwing sharp objects at me. I'll retaliate next time" he said, staring at the man with his right eye, his left closed permanently. The sheer pressure of his words and tone were enough to scare the man into attacking him again. "Rune Knights! Mages! Their's an assassin going for Lady Alye" The drawbacks of anonymity when trying to greet a very highly regarded figure from behind. I guess I can see where the confusion would come from The knives were very well thrown, but because of their near perfect accuracy, their trajectory was predictable. Two were spinning towards his face quickly, faster than the last one he'd caught, but still not fast enough. Zenshin tossed the knife at one of the ones thrown, removing it as a threat while moving his right hand to intercept the other one, the one whose blade was mere inches from his good eye.

Knife magic. Huh. That sounds a little ridiculous, but then again, so does a magic where you can create anything from something that comes out of clouds he thought as he tossed the third knife down into the ground. Finally, the Rune Knights arrived to break up the commotion. "Finally, you guys are here! Arrest this assass- Hey! Let me go!" he exclaimed in confusion as they grabbed his arms from behind him. "We're terribly sorry about this. You'd be pleased to know he will be imprisoned for a very long time for attacking someone this nation is so proud to have" one of the arresting officers said. "But he's the-!" the man piped up before being silenced. What a nifty spell "Just get him out of here and explain the situation, I won't be blaming him for anything. He was just trying to protect the Lady behind me" he said, pointing a thumb backwards at Alye.

They nodded and took him off, and by now, everyone had abandoned the terminal except for the loyal conductor of their transport. "Surprise?" he said half heartedly to the most likely shocked woman before him, his right eye moving from side to side, exaggerating his nervous feeling. He wondered how she would react to such a start of their reunion.

As time ticked onward, Alye began to get a bit antsy. She had been sitting here for at least twenty minutes yet there was no sign of Zenshin anywhere. Maybe...he wasn't coming after all. Her crystal blue eyes scanned the terminal around her as she tried looking for him, but it was to no avail. The crowd of people around her was beginning to only get worse. Many asked her questions about her personal life - to which she cooly deflected from answering - or how her guild was doing, whether not she thought she was stronger than her brother or not, if she'd done any recent jobs, anything and everything to be honest. Alye had no idea how her brother enjoyed being in the public eye as he does, but all this certainly reminded the woman as to why she tended to stay up in the high mountains that housed her guild hall.

Ten minutes had gone by and by now word of Alye's presence must have spread to the city below because a large crowd was beginning to form inside the terminal. Reporters began approaching her along some fans that she didn't even know she had. The woman was in the process of giving out her seventeenth autograph before she heard a wave of unsettlement seem to ripple from the crowd from behind. She heard someone say something about shoving, but she quickly dismissed it. There was no way that anything serious like a dark mage attack would happen right here. They'd be pretty dumb to do a thing like that. The white-haired woman smiled as a little girl was placed on her lap. The girl was sucking on a large rainbow lollipop, completely oblivious to the outside world around her as she took a picture with a Wizard Saint. The camera went off and the girl was plucked from Alye's lap before a mage from Blue Pegasus sat next to her. He flashed an award-winning smile at her and the people around causing the ladies to swoon. Alye on the other hand just sat there unphased. He then looked at her and moved closer, wrapping an arm around her waist trying to pull the woman against him. Alye, again, was unphased. She sat there and examined her nails as the man tried in vain to try to move the woman, her physical strength clearly over his. The people around them laughed as more flashes went off.

Maybe this fame thing wasn't that bad?

Or it probably was. Just as the Blue Pegasus mage disappeared in the crowd, someone started yelling something about an assassin. Alye began turning just as she felt an odd burst of magic behind her somewhere. She prepared to defend herself in time to see Zenshin swat a knife constructed from magic to the side. Did he just...save her? That is what Alye thought for a couple moments before she realized that someone in the crowd had thrown the knife, but not at her. At Zenshin. They thought that he was trying to take her out...

A sweatdrop appeared on the back of her head as she watched the knife-conjuring man be hauled away after the situation was resolved. Once the Rune Knights had taken the man away the crowd had already dispensed and dissolved to nothing. It was completely empty other than Zenshin, herself and the skytram conductor. Alye stood up slowly, a bit shocked as she looked at the humble man before her. She was quiet for a moment, looking him over quickly before she her lips parted for a moment then broke into a smile.

Alye rushed forward and wrapped her arms around Zenshin, hugging him tightly. In all honesty, she didn't even realize she had done it until her arms were around him. She'd missed him so much more than she'd thought she had. "Zenshin... You came!", she said with clear happiness in her voice.

Their Reunion [Quest; Alye and Zenshin] Empty Re: Their Reunion [Quest; Alye and Zenshin]

It looked like Alye was much happier to see him than he thought she'd be while the crowd of people around them were a perplexed as to why she was so happy to see someone who's name they'd only heard of. "Zenshin? The Saint?" a voice piped up from one of the members of the chattering crowd. "Isn't he the guild master of Sabertooth? Brought it back from near expulsion from the legal guilds of Fiore I heard" another voice said, probably answering a question asked by someone else, Zenshin ignored it though, well, before he was assaulted by a member of the "Sorcerer's Magazine" photography and interview crew. "Of course I came Alye, why wouldn't I?" he asked before being blinded by the flash of a camera lacrima.

"Saint Zenshin! How do you know Alye? Are you two in a relationship? Are you two related? What is going on? Who was that man who just got taken away?" a woman in a very "business" suit and an equally as serious pair of glasses said. "So loud. Could you step back." he told her, not as a question, but more as a command. She did before asking more questions, again, he ignored them. Zen yawned and pushed through a crowd of people with one arm while leading Alye by her wrist with another arm, eventually getting past everyone and ending up inside the train car, which was much more quiet than the busy platform. "Much better. I don't know how your brother can do it, all those people taking pictures and harassing you, it's terrible. Oh well, at least there's peace in this train" he said before letting out a sigh of relief and sat down on one of the red leather seats.

"I mean skytram, I always confuse the two for some reason." Zen said before a voice came on from all sides. "The tram will be leaving shortly, thank you for your patience" said the skytram conductor. In a few more moments, the vehicle jerked and began moving along the metal "rails" above them. Back to the desert, brings back memories... like when I got this thing he thought as he took his hat off and stared at it, thinking of one of his first jobs, as well as one of the first with the now famous Alye Reyold. Some people would do *anything* just to get some face-to-face time with the famed Saint, but he wouldn't, he would just send her a message. No one could stop him from an audience with an old friend, no guards, no self righteous bystanders, no one. Well, except maybe Iana if she was getting jealous.

"So how's Eclipse Soul doing? It's been so long, and I've been trying to keep up with filling out all the dammed paperwork that comes with running a guild. I don't know how Zeno does it" he said while he moved his body and laid down on the rest of the booth. Honestly, he just wanted to enjoy this tram ride and rest up before having to travel through the hot desert as he had plenty of times before this one. It was like it was the only place that had problems, aside from the Spooky Forest of course. There was no mistaking that the forest had its own enormous set of problems.
