Find the Ring! (Deniel)

Job Information:

Deniel was walking along the streets of Oak Town once again. He finished two jobs here already, and he was on to do another one. That was all he seemed to want to do. He wanted to get stronger and stronger, what better way to do it than start at the bottom of the barrel and work his way up? This time, he wanted to do a mission nice and simple. His last one made him get a little violent, and he figured that he should take a small break before he goes into another one. Finding an engagement ring for a woman should have been simple enough. He was given the address and the name, and he was nearing it.

"Alright, Deniel, another mission, let's go. He held the request forum in his hands, taking a look at the address once again. He approached the house of the client and took a deep breath. "Hope this wont get awkward like the rest...."

He took a deep breath and knocked on the door. A few seconds later, Deniel was met with a woman a couple of inches shorter than him, Deniel was, afterall, quite the tall person. For the first time, this client wasn't completely creepy or weird. She seemed normal enough, and greeted Deniel with a smile. "Yes?" "Uhhhh yeah, I'm here about the uhhh....job. The ring, I believe?" The woman's smile widened as she stepped outside, grabbing Deniel's hand. "Oh yes, yes, yes! Come, I'll show you where I dropped it and you can do your job finding it! It's a good thing you came along, you know, I was about ready to give up on finding it. Hopefully you can find it. That ring is important to me, you know." She let go of Deniel's hand and let him walk behind her through Oak Town.

"Uhhhh. Yeah.....right. That's.....good to know. Glad to help." She was a nice person and she wasn't really that weird, but something about her made Deniel feel a little awkward.

"It's Deniel, right?" Deniel was lost in thought for a few moments, staring blankly ahead of him. He realized she asked him something and snapped back to his senses. "Uhhh yeah. That's it. Deniel." Emy was happily walking, perhaps skipping ahead of Deniel as she spoke. "What a strange name, and you look kind of strange as well. Oh yeah. But you know, if you're a mage, then you must have a lot of stories to tell of adventures you've been on! I wanna' hear some!"

"Uhhhh.....sorry. If you wanna' hear stories about adventures, you may wanna' go to someone who's been on some. I'm a beginner, a rookie, I'm not someone who goes on that many adventures." Emy's happy walking and skipping slowed down, obviously disappointed. "Oh.....I...I see. Oh well!" Deniel could notice her disappointment, and he didn't want to disappoint his client already. "Tell you what, in a few months or so, when I actually have some stories to tell, I'll perhaps come back and share them with whoever you're getting married with."

Emy happily nodded at him, returning back to her cheerful self. "Alright, sure! That would be great!" The two finally reached the location in which she dropped her ring inside a river outside of town. She showed Deniel the exact location she dropped it, and gave him a description of what it looked like. "It's a golden ring with a small amethyst jewel on the end of it. It should shine should it come in contact with sunlight as most rings do. That might give you an extra hint on where it's at. Got it!?" Deniel was listening in on her and he gave a nod at the very end. "Got it!"

Without hesitation and without removing any of his clothes, Deniel jumped straight into the river. "Wh....what are you doing, Deniel?" Deniel dived down for a few moments, exploring the bottom of the river, searching for anything that might be the ring. After a bit, he returned to the surface to catch his breath and answer her. "I'm searching for the ring. There is no better way to find something in a river than to be in the river."

"I....uhh..." After a few awkward moments, Emy burst out into uncontrollable laughter about Deniel's outrageous and silly solution. He simply grunted and returned to searching for the ring. Deniel's patter was simple: Dive down and search the bottom of the river to find the ring, and if it wasn't there, move on a couple of feet. This method was slow, but it was probably the best for finding such a small object in a river. Deniel found something shining in the river, and quickly swam over to see it. He dove down to the bottom and grabbed the object, returning to the surface with it. It wasn't the engagement ring. It was a simple shiny piece of stone that was reflecting the sunlight. "Tch. No dice."

He tossed the piece of stone away and dove back down into the river, searching for the ring. The objective of the job was simple, but it wasn't going to be something he could do right away. This would need some time and patience to get done. When he returned to the surface for a fifth time, he found that Emy was following him with his trip down the river. "Any luck?"

Deniel shook his head at her. "No, but I'll find it eventually, don't worry." Deniel dove back down into the river and continued his search. He wasn't sure if he was right now. He had no idea how long the ring had been missing, or how much the river carried it away. He could be here for hours for all he knew. Still, he wasn't going to give up. He continued his search through the river, and Emy continued following him. Her hopes were starting to die as well, and she thought she might as well just go and buy another ring. Over an hour of searching had passed, and Deniel was just about to give up. "All of this for one stupid ring....it'd better be worth the 500 jewels."

He decided he should take a break for a few minutes. He climbed out of the river and shook himself a bit. "Whew.....jeez...." "Any.....any luck?" Deniel sat down and shook his head. "Nope. Sorry."

"Oh...." Emy looked down, a little grimly. She had hoped that the ring wouldn't be gone forever, and that's why she sent out the request board. If he couldn't do it, though, then her hope was lost. The engagement ring was really valuable, and she knew her fiance would be upset to know that she lost it. Still, she could just replace it. "Well....thanks for trying, anyway." Deniel looked down at the river, not wanting to stare at her. It was a simple job, yet he still failed it.

After a few moments of looking down, though, something caught his eye. "Hey wait a second, I think I see something!" Deniel ran straight down into the river and dove inside, going for something shining in the water. He picked it up from the dirt at the bottom and resurfaced. In his hand was a golden ring with an amethyst jewel. "Youfoundityoufoundityoufoundit!" Emy ran back down to Deniel, snatching the ring straight from his hands as he got out of the river. "Thankyouthankyouthankyou! Here's your payment! Take it, please!" She handed him a bag containing his 500 jewel reward and ran off, leaving him where he was. Soaked, pride hurt, but still paid. "Mission....complete.....I guess."
