I'd start by reading the rules and trying to get a clear image of what exactly you do when you Fairy Tail rp.

Just click yourself through and read it at your own tempo... I'd start with Character Guidelines and such. Try to get a clear image of how it'd work placing your own character into an FT universe someone else created. o-o

Think about all the aspects of your character and especially what magic he/she is gonna use. Fire, Water, Gravity, Speed, Physical, Arcane, Dark, Light etc.

Pop up in the cbox every now and then so you can ask your questions to other players so they'll help you :3
