Nightmare Incarnate: the Beginning [Kayra and Delvic]

Delvic shivered as the magic did its work he knew he would not escape if they noticed him at all, they aimed for the magic that created them. He felt his consciousness fading, but held firm in case he needed to run. The “beasts” looked around wildly and then took off at Fear. Each beast rending itself into the shadow, it seemed over run with the horrible monstrosities.

Delvic faded into the past recalling his master covered by the horrors he had conjured and to save him being consumed. It stayed behind the others protecting the “light” that now faded with fear, and regret. It stood before him blocking him from sight, and curled around him warm, and full of life. Delvic felt a shudder and then passed out completely. It howled and charged for the shadow. Joining into the throng of claws teeth and fury. The shadow howled as it was clambered upon unable to do much against the wave of demons.

The cloud of fury swept over the shadow once again all fangs and fury, they had finally gotten hold of it and were not about to let it go. “It” noticed a difference between these beasts and itself, one was a simple beast and the other had direction, from the “light”. It bit tightly unto the great shadow and seeing another thing killing the shadow, in trouble it pushed one of the others out and in the way, like a nudge to do the right thing.

The fury continued as the rogue shards buried themselves loosely among the demons that howled and gave a new energy to the ravenous attack. The sound drowned out everything that had been heard before the howling, roaring, and tearing. Shattered the levels of even the loudest of sounds before you could almost swear you heard the screams of Fear, barely over the din of the dining demons.

Tentacles lashed about piercing two more of the feasting pack, before the others pinned them.

It roared in anger and with the three remaining others tore away at the shadow. The light it felt was fading and “It” felt more and more aware of the thrill of tearing into the shadow to ignore the driving chill that permeated the air. It heard the rending of tendril and rejoiced; the others that surrounded it undulated and slashed like a single living thing. “It” revolted from the others as the shadow of Fear dragged itself upright and away, fighting towards the mists. It heard there roars of triumph as they jumped and slashed at the writhing mass of darkness, and knew the end was coming the shadow turned on them lashing out before the end.

“It” jumped in determined to end this fight. It roared and charged past Kayra knocking her over, and it lept upon the shadow biting and clawing with the only force it could still muster, the battle had been hard, but it was now over, for “it”, for them all.

“It” felt the shadow fly into the mists and the others follow quickly after and disappear. The fog lifted and nothing remained of the horrors that had enveloped them all. The “light” brightened as the shadow disappeared along with the others. Fluttering objects filled the newly created clearing, and “it” gathered them curious. It then smelt carrion, the “other” was badly hurt, and the “light” was growing cold.

It lifted each of them up and trudged slowly through the forest, “it” was tired and they were heavy, but it could smell people and fire and the thick lumber of houses. They continued on and on this way until “it” finally collapsed, and dragged itself forward. The form slowly broke as its limit came and a corpse tumbled onto the grass dragging two young mages behind it.

The story was told that the two had defeated whatever killed the other Rune Knights and the last survivor had with his wounds, tried to bring them to safety, at the cost of his own life. “It”… no he was a hero.
