Euphelt sat inside the warmth of the guild lobby. After passing through the snow and ice, lugging around a large briefcase full of her things, the weight of burden was soothed by the comfort of the inside. Euphelt relaxed into the padded wooden seat, watching guests walk to and from around the lobby, brushing off some of the snow that had gathered onto her leather briefcase.

At first she was not sure if she would even find the place. Her search for an employer lead her through a snowstorm, as she was told by a vaguely suspicious man with a dagger in his belt that a guild of treasures and eternal comforts could be found up the path. While she did lose him some way through that snowstorm, an action she regrets, she did manage to find the orange lights of the candles and lacrima after trekking for a few minutes forward.

The maid was waiting for someone to come by. The receptionist at the table had told her that an individual would come collect her after she said that she wanted to work for the guild. Euphelt wondered if this was meant to be an interview or something similar. Were the servants of Silver Wolf of a different caliber than a normal hotel? Were they demanded more of the master where a normal servant would struggle?

Euphelt may not show it in her facial expression, but she felt some determination to prove she's among the best maids out there. Euphelt takes out a handmirror, inspecting her appearance down to the detail. Not a hair was to be out of place, nor would there any snow on her clothes. Euphelt sought to make a good first impression before this guild member would make an appearance.

Post by Leona Jarnefeldt 20th September 2023, 10:15 am

Wearing a sleeveless green turtleneck shirt with khaki capri pants and white and silver tennis shoes, Leona had dressed up a little for a day in the office. She had found that guild staff members were not nearly as uncomfortable with her wearing a sleeveless turtleneck as they were her wearing a tank top or tube top. If she dared wear a crop top some of them might get so uncomfortable that they would spontaneously combust on the spot. Not wanting to lose guild staff members for any reason, Leona decided to go with what she was wearing.

In Leona's right hand was a white coffee mug with the Silver Wolf emblem printed in silver on the side. She needed to get her own mug so that she could customize it and have the Silver Wolf emblem match the color of her guild tattoo, but that was for later. Right now she was staring at a long day in the office with mountains of paperwork waiting on her. But right now she was stalling and standing just outside the guild cafe while sipping coffee. She was going to need a refill soon and she was not particularly eager to go to the office before she got it.

Leona had made decent progress towards becoming a decent administrator, but she still had a long ways to go before she could call herself competent. One of her biggest problems was that she did not like doing it. She would much rather be out in the field on an adventure than be sitting behind a desk filling out forms and reviewing them. Leona fulfilled her administrative responsibilities because it was her job, but there were plenty of other things she would rather be doing with that time.

Cunning is the art of concealing our own defects
    and discovering other peoples' weaknesses.
It was almost a bit strange to be out and about without a disguise. Mercury had been under cover for so long after her faked death that she kept reflexively checking to make sure she was disguised, only to remember that she no longer needed it. Within the walls of Silver Wolf, she had rarely covered herself up, of course – her guildmates and Leona had been well aware of the fact that she was obviously not dead. But Silver Wolf was a guild that saw a lot of visitors for the spas, and while the magic and wolves protecting the hall made it next to impossible for anyone will ill intentions to make it to the building, she’d still always felt it best to err on the side of caution when in the public eye.

But now, she was free to be herself again. Maker was finally dead after over a year of her time and expertise in espionage. She’d lost two very dear friends in the process. Genesis had given his life to bring Maker down, and out of necessity Blade had taken his own life a few days after the completion of their mission. It still hurt for her to think about them both. Mercury had never lost anyone that she cared about before, and the pain of it, of having to say goodbye to them and watch as they left, was something she didn’t expect she’d get over any time soon… if ever.

Still, she knew that neither of them would want her to lose herself with grief. As such, Mercury pressed on with her life, focusing on her duties with her guild and doing her best to settle back into a normal routine. She was on her way down to the labs when Lyvia flagged her, the receptionist alerting her to a visitor that expressed an interest in coming to work for the guild as a maid. Giving Lyvia her thanks, Mercury made her way to the entrance hall. It wouldn’t be difficult to figure out who to look for; a lovely young woman about Mercury’s own age sat and waited patiently in the traditional black and white garb, carefully inspecting her appearance in a pocket sized mirror.

Approaching the woman, Mercury gave her a friendly smile. “Hi there! You must be Euphelt? My name is Mercury; I’m the ace for Silver Wolf.” She offered Euphelt a cordial handshake. Mercury was dressed casually in a pair of khaki pants and a green button up shirt that was tied around her chest. The beanie on her head covered most of her hair, but plenty of wisps of her lavender locks still poked out from beneath. She wore a bracelet around a wrist that looked as though it had been fashioned out of ancient gold coins, and on her left ring finger was a ring with an emerald stone indicating her engaged status. Sitting on her shoulder was a crow, who watched Euphelt with his beady black eyes but otherwise remained quiet for once in his life. “I’ve been told you’re interested in offering up your custodial services. We’re always more than happy to have a few extra hands around. Gods know there’s always something that needs doing. Why don’t you come along with me and I’ll introduce you to Leona, our guildmaster. She’s the one who has final say on things like this.”

Nodding for the woman to follow, Mercury would lead her into a hallway and up to Leona’s office, where they found the guildmaster sitting over a pile of paperwork. Mercury knocked on the open door to get her attention before leading the newcomer inside. “You look like you’re in dire need of a distraction,” she teased with a grin, knowing how much Leona disliked administrative work. “Leona, this is Euphelt. She’s just arrived and expressed an interest in coming to work for us as a maid. Figured you’d be interested in meeting with her.” From there, Mercury would stand off to the side and let either woman continue their own introductions with one another.

    A Wolf's Maid Empty Re: A Wolf's Maid

    Post by Crystal0 20th September 2023, 4:17 pm

Euphelt was tinkering with the folds in her bonnet when she was approached by a woman in beanie. The maid puts away her hand mirror, gets up to her feet and bows before Mercury instead of taking the handshake. Not taking the handshake after she stood straight again, Euphelt spoke in her monotonous tone, "Yes Mistress Mercury, I am Euphelt Fillecygne, humble maid at the beck and call of those who require my services." Euphelt gives another bow. The individual before her, Mercury, from Euphelt's perspective did not seem to largely care for her mannerisms or appearance. If anything, the crow is the one doing the judging. "And humble greetings to Master Crow."

After being told that she would be meeting the guildmaster, Euphelt considered the possibility that perhaps this was the true test instead. A review by the guildmaster, the highest individual in the Silver Wolf guild and by all definitions, her future boss. Euphelt's face remained the emotionless poker face, but she gripped her briefcase's handle tighter as she followed the lavender haired woman through the hallway towards, she would presume, the guildmaster's office.

As she entered, Euphelt took notice of the smell of coffee. From her past experiences, coffee drinkers are poor morning people, needing the energy provided by the beverage to get through a morning's routine. By smell alone Euphelt was trying to deduce the blend in which Leona preferred her coffee, but she had been told before that her own coffee blends taste better, so she refrained from too much inference. As Mercury introduced her, Euphelt stepped forward and made a bow.

"Good morning Mistress Leona, I am Euphelt Fillecygne, trained as a maid of the utmost caliber by Fiore's finest maid school Elegante Academy. I am capable of various roles such as housekeeping, guest greeting, janitorial, child raising and if permitted serve in administrative and other ad-hoc duties. I can be asked to adhere to a single individual or collective's orders. You will find no faults in me Mistress Leona, that is my guarantee as a maid," Euphelt delivered the entire introduction in a rather flat tone, her face not once twitching in any form of emote. Perhaps it was her own personality or the result of her training as a maid, but not even in her eyes can you sense any form of emotion. It was a plain, blank stare.

One of those HUD-installed helmets from that grim day had been in Yuvon’s care for quite some time now. It always came as a challenge to fragment and recombine the components of such intricate technology compared to similar artifacts powered by magical means, especially since his Memory-Make had to start from scratch without any magical signatures to act as a control point. In many ways, it was like chemistry – fragment, piece together, and figure out what parts held what purpose, and how those parts were enabled to achieve those purposes. Once all of those branches were laid out, simply turn to point zero and play around with them like building blocks-

And now, he had a very strange device in his hands. Welp, ought to report back to Beta, Miss soon-to-be Mrs. Arseneault.

… He panicked for a moment upon watching her escort a clear, donned-up maid towards Leona’s office, but he kept his distance for a moment. She wasn’t who he thought of, after all… which brought forth a sad sensation through his chest.

    A Wolf's Maid PXP2tdP

Still, he felt driven to report to Miss Arseneault, especially given his duration of silence. Buuuuuut… once he got to the door, years of manners hammered into him by Minstrelois standards – almost puked upon thinking that – made him wait in silence, holding in his hand what looked like half of a technological visor with a red glass screen to display an HUD. After all, this was Leona’s office, and two ladies just entered – whatever they intended to do in there was private business.

Green, old robes, golden appendages, and a golden mask – Yuvon ought to consider a change in fashion these days… or did he?

Some time after finishing what might have been her second or third cup of coffee Leona had finally forced herself to go to her office and actually get started on the paperwork. Of course she had refilled her coffee mug before going into the office because it was a little-known fact that Leona ran on coffee. Well, anyone who had been with Silver Wolf for any length of time knew that the blonde adored the beverage and was a frequent visitor to the guild cafe.

Leona had just finished a stack of papers when she heard knocking on the door and in came Guild Ace Mercury Arsenault. With her was a young woman dressed in an immaculate maid uniform clutching a briefcase. The Guild Mistress stood up from her desk, waved in greeting to both Mercury and the newcomer, and walked over to them feeling shabby all the while because of how well-dressed they were in comparison to her. She was just glad that she had not worn a tube top or she would have felt even worse about how she looked... and would have probably made things very awkward.

"Hey Mercury! I'm glad you dropped in!" Leona greeted the Silver Wolf Ace, a person she had not seen in awhile. The lavender-haired young woman was always welcome in Leona's presence whether it was a slow day at the office or a hectic one. Leona turned her attention to the who had introduced herself as "Euphelt."

"Hi Euphelt. I'm Leona Jarnefeldt, Guild Mistress of Silver Wolf and Wizard Saint of Courage. Welcome to Silver Wolf Guild Hall." Leona calmly greeted the newcomer, who had a stoic facial expression and was a bit taller than the Guild Mistress. Euphelt had quite a list of talents and Leona had paid particular attention to the part about being capable of handling administrative duties. Of course Leona was not going to dump everything on Euphelt because that would be irresponsible of her, but having a backup plan in case she was away from the guild hall was never a bad idea.

Leona was about to speak to Euphelt further when she heard a knock on the door.

"Excuse me for a moment, Euphelt and Mercury." Leona requested of them before walking over to the door to her office and opening it. Outside stood Yuvon, a familiar face she had not seen in awhile. He was holding a fancy-looking object she had never seen before, but she did not pay attention to it for long because she looked him in the face.

"Hey Yuvon! It's been awhile! Come on in if you want!" Leona bade Yuvon to enter her office if that was what he was inclined to do.

Well, she was certainly polite and professional, if a bit… detached? Euphelt bowed several times in the process of greeting her, and Mercury had to fight to not look as amused as she felt. Despite being second only to Leona in the guild’s hierarchy, Mercury was exceptionally casual and laid back, and not altogether big on formalities. Still, she had no desire to scare the newcomer away by being impolite, so she merely smiled, though there was perhaps a twinkle of mirth in her eyes.

The bird cocked his head when Euphelt greeted him as well. “He certainly thinks he’s a master, bossy little bastard.” Despite the perceived insult to the bird, Mercury turned her neck over to give him a small smirk, reaching up pet her fingers against his chest affectionately. He leaned eagerly into her fingers. “He is aptly named Bandit, and he is a feathery little terrorist but he’s cute enough to keep, I guess.”

Shortly afterward they found themselves in Leona’s office. The guildmaster greeted Mercury cheerfully before turning her attention to Euphelt. Mercury stepped aside and leaned against a nearby wall to observe the exchange, forcing herself to ignore the alluring scent of Leona’s coffee. Mercury had already had a couple cups herself that morning and truly should not give in to the temptation to have more – not that the additional caffeine would truly affect her one way or another. The maid was about as formal as she had been with Mercury, all business and professionalism, giving a few more details about her background and skills. It was a well rehearsed and pretty little speech, even if the woman’s tone lacked much by way of personality.

Mercury sensed the arrival of another individual, her internal radars monitoring a lifesign as it approached the door to the office and knocked. Leona excused herself to open the door, revealing Yuvon. The Ace’s eyes caught sight of the device in his hands, but she said nothing toward it for the time being as Leona invited the scholar inside. “Good to see ya, Yu! Euphelt, this is Yuvon, one of our guild members and scholars.”

Apparently she was making a lot of introductions today. Not wanting things to get too far off track, Mercury turned her attention back to the newcomer. “I don’t think I even knew that schools for maids existed,” she admitted, genuinely curious by the notion. “But it sounds like you have a pretty wide array of skills that could certainly be useful to the guild. You also made quite the journey to get to us all the way out here in the mountains. Is there any reason in particular that you want to work for Silver Wolf?” Mercury could only imagine that there were easier places of business Euphelt could have applied to that didn’t involve having to navigate her way through a blizzard, leaving her to wonder if there was some particular thing about the guild that had drawn the maid’s interest.

    A Wolf's Maid Empty Re: A Wolf's Maid

    Post by Crystal0 23rd September 2023, 12:48 am

Euphelt had thoughts running through her mind as Leona addressed her. She noted the attire and the casual nature of speech that Leona and Mercury spoke, inferring the possibility that her boss, might be someone who is not what she would call high class. To Euphelt, there is a comfort in that fact, it meant that in the due time when she needed to rest her best, she would be given the adequate space and time to do so. However she had to shove those guesses aside for the time being, she needed to be on her best behaviour.

When Leona attended to the door, Euphelt stood aside to give the guildmaster space, a small curiosity forming in her head as she stared blankly. That curiosity would be answered as she sees the person at the door. This person, named Yuvon, striked Euphelt as weird, purely on the choice of fashion alone. The oddity in their hand was even more odd, it reminded her of one of her belongings, a keepsake that she does not know how to use. But the make of the object in his hand was much different, and very small.

Regardless, she was introduced to him, and she makes a bow towards Yuvon. A scholar? Euphelt might need to find him in the future, perhaps he can solve a small mystery she has. The time for it is not now however, so she refrained, as she had been asked of Mercury a rather important question. Euphelt nods, before pulling out a flyer from her apron and presents it to the individuals in the room.

It was clearly a fake with its scrawled handwriting and badly drawn guild crest. On it, big large words that barely read, "Looking for servants at Silver Wolf".

"After I picked this up, a man asked to be escorted up the mountain. I also lost him after a blizzard had consumed us," Euphelt explains in a cold matter-of-fact tone, which was no different from her normal speaking voice. "I told the receptionist but she told me not to worry about it, I believe she said the wolves will handle it. Afterwards I expressed my interest in working here."

The maid bows once more, lower than before. "I must be frank that I have failed to escort this man properly, I deem it a failure on my part. I humbly apologise, such a failure is unbecoming of someone such as me."

Post by Yuvon 28th September 2023, 1:01 pm

    … Huh.

Blinking awkwardly was his first move – he had… reserved assumptions, but they were debunked at the sight of Leona’s office. Still, Leona gracefully invited him to enter her workplace, and so he did, almost as if he was stepping on a floor covered in eggs. The maid’s name was revealed by fair lady Arseneault – heavens forbid she ever heard him say that – to be Euphelt, and Yuvon did as expected of a man of his caliber and gently bowed with a rested hand to his chest in a noble fashion. “Mademoiselle, a gracious day to meet your acquaintance. I hope that my intrusion doesn’t discomfort you,” he greeted in an apologetic tone, for one reason or another. He was more than content with a responding bow from Euphelt.

… The flyer looked dumb. However, Euphelt’s input to the flyer that she showed worried the scholar to ask: “Oh dear, hopefully the wolves found him. I can take a look too, but reaching the guild’s zone should make things much easier on him than the unforgiving blizzard.” This maid was much more… monotone and straight-faced than others he’d met in the past, and yet her loathing feelings towards her self made Yuvon’s brain snap.

“I prefer that you do not speak ill of yourself, mademoiselle. As for the flyer… did… did we make that?”

    A Wolf's Maid Empty Re: A Wolf's Maid

Post by Leona Jarnefeldt 29th September 2023, 12:24 am

Leona watched Yuvon greet Euphelt with impeccable manners and listened to the maid answer Mercury's question concerning what had brought the blonde maid all the way to the guild hall. Leona was interested in the answer and watched as a flyer was shown to the established Silver Wolf mages. The Guild Mistress took a few steps closer to take a look at it and blinked when she saw how low-quality it was. The flyer looked like something someone had scribbled onto a sheet of paper while blindfolded.

It was... well, it was awful.

Leona crossed her arms across her chest and opined on the "flyer" the blonde maid was holding.

"I don't think we made that, Yuvon. I know I didn't. I can draw the guild emblem better than that." Leona remarked to the masked mage directly and Mercury and Euphelt indirectly. She had done a decent job of carving the Silver Wolf guild emblem into a pumpkin at a Halloween event some time ago, so she could definitely draw it better than the mystery artist responsible for the awful one on the paper. Just looking at it made her feel slightly upset because of how crummy it looked. It was like someone was deliberately insulting the guild she led.

Leona put that out of her mind and listened to Euphelt talk about a mystery man who had accompanied the maid for part of the journey before disappearing without a trace. The Guild Mistress wondered who it could have been. She also wondered whether the gathered mages should bother looking for the man or just let the matter drop and focus on Euphelt.

"Euphelt, Mercury, Yuvon... do you think looking for this mystery man is something we need to do?" Leona posed a question to the trio. If they wanted to go looking she would grab her olive green jacket out of her room. If they did not want to go looking she would let the matter go and keep talking to Euphelt instead.

Cunning is the art of concealing our own defects
    and discovering other peoples' weaknesses.
Mercury peered at the flier that Euphelt produced, her brows narrowing at the paper while the woman explained about the man that had gotten lost in the blizzard. “May I?” She asked, pointing to the flier and then, should Euphelt agree, taking it from the would-be employee so she could examine it closer.

It was absolutely atrocious. “Yeah, this is definitely not ours.” The lavender haired woman was in full agreement with the guildmaster. She continued to peer at the paper, scanning it for traces of DNA and various dust particles, or anything else of interest that may give her a clue as to what region the paper may have originated from. As she did, she listened to Yuvon and Leona discuss the situation, with the former hoping the man wasn’t harmed and the latter asking if the rest of them felt that they needed to search for the individual.

“I guess that depends on if you want to find someone that clearly didn’t have friendly intentions for us,” Mercury said simply, offering the pamphlet back to Euphelt. “If the wolves do find them, I imagine the only help they’ll provide him is to discourage any additional attempts at whatever the guy was thinking of trying.”

She glanced at Euphelt to explain. “We have security measures in place that prevent those with ill intentions toward the guild and its members from being able to locate us. If he got lost in that storm, it was probably a good thing. Besides, you’re not a member of the guild – or at least, you weren’t at the time, assuming you are planning on staying around – so it was hardly your responsibility to lead anyone here.”

With a shrug, Mercury looked back to Leona. “If you’d like him tracked down to ensure he doesn’t come around again, you know I’m always happy to teach a lesson and send someone packing. But, I doubt it’s worth our time. Plus, Miss Fillecygne only just came in from the storm herself; I imagine she’s earned a bit of warmth and a roof over her head. Maybe even a meal, or at least something hot to drink.” In the end, if Leona felt that the man was worth investigating then Mercury wouldn’t hesitate to join in and put her considerable tracking skills to use. But as far as she was concerned, the man got caught being up to no good and she help little sympathy toward whether or not he was still lost in the storm.

    A Wolf's Maid Empty Re: A Wolf's Maid

Euphelt felt disappointed that her flyer was largely a phony and the possibility that she had been tricked to escort an individual who likely had bad intentions. Euphelt may not visibly show it on her face, but her body language can still speak for her in other ways, as she shook in her boots, her dress hid her shame from view from the rest of the individuals in the room.

Mercury's scan would trace the paper to the nearest town from the guild, the same place Euphelt would have picked up the flyer and its ink no different. However fingerprints of the same individual would keep popping up, an individual who would have created the flyer.

"I see," Euphelt recalls a certain detail mentioned by her escort, that he could never climb up because of a snowstorm that would engulf him at a certain point. As she remembers the details of her trip up, adding to the context given by Mercury, a moment in her trip begins to make certain sense.

"If memory serves me well, I recall a certain peculiarity. The snowstorm only ended after I had seperated from my escort during the hike up. If I have inferred correctly, then my escort would be of ill intent." Euphelt bows again, knowing she had wronged her future employers before she had even begun working with them. Euphelt would consider this a blemish on her record. A top maid would never let such a fault to occur.

Her stomach rumbling would disrupt her moment however. Mercury's comment did remind her that she had not eaten over the hike up. Euphelt straightens herself, adjusting her appearance quickly with a quick brush of her hand. Her eyes had faced away from the crowd for a brief moment, before fixing itself staring at nothing in particular.

"Forgive me, Mistress Mercury is correct in how I would like a meal, my stomach is rumbling," Euphelt could never believe how bad she is performing. The maid needs to be better, to show why she's such a top maid. "Would everyone a meal cooked by me? At my school, I am required to know how to cook several meals to ensure a balanced diet as well as coffee among other producable beverages.
