Dressed in a lavender t-shirt and black skirt with black thighhigh stockings and white tennis shoes, Diana was in her new form under the alias "Jane Wesson" and walking through the quiet city streets... or as quiet as a city like Capital Crocus could get. In any case there were not too many people around and there was enough space on the sidewalk for her to walk unimpeded by fellow pedestrians. In her right hand was a to-go cup of double espresso from Capital Coffee and it was three-quarters full.
Diana had went out for a late-night coffee run while disguised as Jane and no one had suspected that the blue-eyed blonde standing before them was Diana Winchester, not even her longtime acquaintance Jasmine DuClare, an employee of Capital Coffee and the employee who had served her. The blonde mage had acquired the ability to change into her new appearance shortly after her return from the space station her Infinite Improbability Chronometer had taken her to. Diana did not know how exactly she had gotten the form, but the new look was perfect for fooling longtime acquaintances... she would use it whenever she wanted to travel the city in peace without having to deal with anyone. Being able to change between appearances at will without requiring any special tools was a handy skill that Diana would make frequent use of in the days to come.
While on the space station Diana had thought about her family and how disconnected she felt from the rest of the world. One of the only people she felt any real connection to was Aliarey Casidy, a fellow Guildless mage and longtime friend of hers. The other was her older sister Lucia, but they had not seen each other in years and part of Diana did not want to see her again because she was afraid of what Lucia would say if they ever met. The younger Winchester was afraid that her sister might be able to see through her facade and see that she was just an empty shell who was good at pretending to be human.
As Diana walked past a tall office building of some sort she took a drink of her coffee and passed by one of the few other people she had seen, a black-haired young woman with brown eyes wearing a pink jacket over a gray tank top and gray sweatpants with white tennis shoes. The blonde thought for a moment that she had encountered her acquaintance Amber, but that was not the case because Amber's eyes were not brown. Diana took another drink of her coffee and mused for a moment about the quality of the beverage, which was as high as it had been since she started patronizing that establishment.
Tonight was a good night so far. The weather was noticeably cool but not cold, there was not a single cloud in the clear night sky, and there were few pedestrians on the streets; all of those factors combined to make for an enjoyable evening for the blonde. When she eventually got home she would go to sleep, wake up, and look for a job so that she could earn the money needed to support herself and save up for a trip to Crescent Island. Once upon a time Diana had wished that she could go there on a vacation with Lucia, but now she was more inclined to either go by herself or go with Aliarey as her guest.
As she walked Diana found herself thinking about what might have been had her family not died from drinking poisoned wine at a family banquet over four years ago. Maybe she and Lucia would have remained close instead of becoming estranged, but that was not a given. Perhaps they would have drifted apart anyway due to Diana getting older and wanting to leave the family home to make a life for herself away from their abusive mother. Another possibility was that both Winchesters might have decided to become freelance mages; perhaps they would have even worked together from time to time. Still another possibility was that some of the other Winchester sisters who wanted to travel the world might have joined forces with Lucia and Diana to form a team.
There was no telling how things could have gone had almost all of the Winchester family not died on that night.
