It calls us back to who we truly are.
It had been quite a while since Serilda and Mythal had attended a festival that took place outside of New Rhaegar. Since Mercury had spent such a long time in hiding due to her presumed death, the Silver Wolf ace had been locked into either staying on the island or inside of her guild, or being in disguise. This was the first holiday where she was able to be out in the open without having to hide. As such, the group decided to change things up a bit this time around. While the Xocili and Rhaegarians were having their own celebration on the island, the smaller group of them, including Saffron and Cedric, opted to spend the evening in Magnolia where they could enjoy Fairy Tail’s hosting of the event. To say that things were still complicated as of late was putting it mildly. Maker had been defeated, which was a massive wave of relief off of all of their minds. However, the war was still at large and not looking like it was going to die down any time soon. Seberg was also still running around somewhere, which was a concern in and of itself. The biggest revelation, however, was Xavier’s return. They had all previously thought the former God King had perished on Rhaegar by Vandrad’s hand, but when he reached out to Mercury he had revealed that he was still alive. At the time it wasn’t much of a concern. He seemed apologetic and genuinely wanting to repair things with Vandrad and his family as much as he could, and after some discussion it was decided that they should view him with caution but not necessarily with hostility. Only then for him to turn around and attack Vandrad, and in the process reveal that he was the very same man that Saffron had been dating for several months up until that point. It had been rough on Saffron, and Mercury as well, who had slept with Xavier without realizing his connection to Saffron. Unfortunately, things had not gotten any simpler as a couple short weeks later, Saffron and Cedric had gone off on a mysterious mission in Iceberg that had opened up a door to a whole other slew of drama for the poor Fairy Tail mage. She’d fallen into a deeper funk, and Cedric had expressed some concerns about leaving her alone for too long, so they had elected to bring him and Saffron along for what had traditionally just been the siblings in the past. The six of them, plus the two children, wandered the streets together. Serilda was dressed up like a witch, in a long black robe that was cinched at the stomach with a crescent moon shaped brooch. Beneath the robe was a pair of shorts and a strappy black top. She wore thigh high leather boots and a wide brimmed witch hat. Walking beside her was Alexia, who was dressed up in a zip up onesie with a hood, fashioned to look like a black cat. The little girl had paint on her face in the shape of whiskers and a triangular cat nose, and she carried a bucket filled with candy from trick or treating in one hand, while her other hand held on to Serilda’s. “Mommy, look!” Alexia pointed at a stage where people were gathering in small groups at a time for a costume contest. Currently there were about a dozen adults on stage in costumes with varying levels of quality and originality. “I see them! Look at all those costumes. How fun!” Mostly Serilda was just entertaining the girl’s excitement, but it was always interesting to see what kind of outfits people came up with this time of year. She peered at the billboard in front of the area, which listed a schedule of different contests. “Oh hey, look Mythal. They’re doing a children’s round in a few minutes. What do you think, girls? Do you want to do a costume contest?” “Yeah!!” |
