A Simple Uneventful Job.

A simple archaeological dig. That was all it was. Samira couldn't even remember the last time she had been at such an event. Usually, if she was dealing with something ancient and long forgotten it was magical in origin or very dangerous. Countless times it had been both. It was nice to be on a simple job again, even if it was not planned. Although most might have considered it to be completely and utterly boring.

Samira didn't quite have a full agenda really. There were things she checked on and needed to do, of course, but to say she had a regular full-day job was inaccurate. Most of the time she could drop what she was doing and move onto something else if needed, which is what happened. Her day had originally had very different plans but they changed the moment she received a letter via magical express mail.

The closed envelope appeared in her inn room through the mail portal and flew right toward her head where it not so gently made an impact. It was paper and light so it was far from being anything that could cause an injury but it was still a bit of a surprise for her. Even more so when the thing continued to hover in the air, demanding to be ripped apart and read. With vocal screaming words that could only be overpowered by the Galactigram. That mailman was getting ridiculous with his magical enhancements to his invention, but Samira had to admit it was at least efficient.

The thought of sending a summon to give a rather creative complaint in regards to the newest version of the mail transport crossed her mind, but it was forced to the back rather quickly. Her focus had transferred to the letter itself. Or rather, the curiosity of its contents and who it might have been from overpowered whatever amount of spitefulness had been brewing within her.

The shouting envelope received its demand. Taken, torn apart, and its insides completely removed. Samira was surprised the enchanted thing didn't let out a scream as if she had murdered it. The mailman probably would add that specific trait in the next one, she thought. With a shake of her head, she forced herself to let that thought pass and forget about it. Her eyes then went to scan over the words that were written so neatly on the paper.

The letter was short but informative enough. An archeological professor wanted help with digging up the remnants of an ancient creature he had found. He was a bit fearful of hiring just any mage and so he wanted to reach out to capable mages for the task. Why not just go over the masses and skip the filtering process of the job board and go straight to one of the more powerful and supposedly more responsible ones? Surely it would also help to put in some good words about knowing her grandfather as well. That way he wasn't a total stranger and technically had a connection that made a little bit of sense for reaching out.

There was the thought of declining. Many likely would have. Samira, however, was interested in knowing just what sort of ancient creature had been found in the sands of the Forgotten Desert. Perhaps it was something never before seen or rare. With her magic being what it was, she could also easily ask her summons for assistance to get the job done that very same day.

Well, maybe getting the job done on the same day was a bit too optimistic. It was possible... if destruction and not careful preservation was the intent. The longer Samira considered the job the more she had to conclude that a vast majority of her summons would need to be told not to go all out and destroy the place with the goal of simply making a hole in the ground. Maybe just a select few would have to do to avoid any damage to the ancient find.

A chorus of voices sounded in her mind all at once. The voices belonging to each of those spirits that were magically connected with her. It was difficult to tell one from another but she could get the general idea of what each one had to say just by knowing them so well.

The overall thought most of them had about the job? It was absolutely boring and uninteresting. They had zero interest. However, they had no trouble being offended by her assumption that they'd be a little less than careful during the project. That only made resisting the action of an eye-roll that much harder for Samira.

There was no satisfying or winning when it came to those fickle and hypocritical beings. They were dear friends but my goodness did their nagging and complaints get tiresome every now and then. Anyone else might have found a way to shut them up by that point but the summoner just let them continue until the eventual silence that would then become an opening for her to finally speak.
