Autumn has arrived and with it another Halloween event! A variety of activities that encompass both the fun and the frightening sides of Halloween await participants. From sampling a special Halloween punch to listening to Halloween-themed music to playing a slightly macabre twist on a classic carnival game, there is plenty to do. While participants are free to wear costumes if they want, doing so is not required to participate in the festival.
Completion Requirements:
As you take part in the activities and complete them you receive a coin-sized golden skull token handed to you by event staff. In order to complete the event you or your group must have at least three skull tokens from completing activities. Once you have the required number you can turn in the event and get your rewards.
When an activity requires a roll, rolling IS required. However, you can choose what activities you participate in and if no roll is required you can choose the outcome.
Thread Word Count Requirement:
The event must be run by players either individually or in groups of up to six. Lone players are allowed to complete the event by themselves.
The Word Count for each player is 2,000 words.
Just like with jobs, the Word Count stacks. If two players participate in the event, the WC is 4,000, three players have to reach a 6,000-word WC, etc. Please bear in mind that the WC of all players contributes to the total WC so that players still have a chance to complete the event if one of the group members is unable to meet their part of the WC.
Location:
Any town or city.
Deadline:
Wednesday, November 30th at 11:59pm EST
Activities:
- Coffin Up Candy:
- Coffin Up Candy: In this slightly grim twist on the shell game, players see a piece of candy placed into one of three small coffins, which are then moved around by magic until they come to a stop. The player's objective is to choose the small coffin with the candy inside. Choosing the right one results in getting several pieces of Halloween candy along with a golden skull token. Choosing the wrong one results in the player finding a small plastic skeleton in the coffin but no negative consequences.
Participants must roll a single Normal Die to choose the outcome. Participants get a single skull token regardless of the outcome. Should participants choose the right coffin, the candy inside is up to them. Miscellaneous details that add to the experience are also up to players.
1, 2, or 3: Success! You chose the right coffin and get some Halloween candy in addition to a Skull Token!
4, 5, or 6: You chose the wrong coffin! No candy for you!
- A Little Night Music:
- A Little Night Music: The event organizers have set aside an outdoor area where Halloween-themed music is playing constantly. It is meant as a place for festival attendees to mingle, listen to the music, take a break before or after doing other activities, or do all three at once. Details such as the music, the decorations, the area itself, whether the music is being played by a DJ or not, and other details are up to the participants.
No dice roll is required for this activity. Participants get a single skull token.
- The Tunnel of Terror:
- The Tunnel Of Terror: A tunnel ride has been set up for festival attendees looking for something to get their adrenaline going. When participants enter the tunnel they find themselves walking through a long tunnel with white special effects fog hanging low to the ground. At the end of the tunnel is a dock area where boats are waiting. Once the participants get in the boat it automatically disembarks and heads down the river.
The trip starts out tame, but once the boat passes through a shimmering purple barrier the ride amps up in intensity. A few seconds later very strong illusion magic makes participants see things they fear all around them. The images are not real, but the magic is so strong that it is very difficult to tell what is real and what is not.
Participants must roll a single Normal Die to choose the outcome. Participants get a single skull token regardless of the outcome. The details of the ride (decor, lighting, what the boats look like, personal fears, etc.) are up to the participants.
1 or 2: You must have nerves of steel. You made it through the ride perfectly fine!
3 or 4: Things got a little intense for awhile, but you made it through all right. You are not easily shaken.
5 or 6: You were so scared that you spent most of the ride consumed by terror at what you saw. You may want to take a few minutes to calm down before moving onto something else.
Participants get one skull token for completing the activity.
- Witch's Brew:
- Witch's Brew: This activity involves trying a free sample of punch poured into a plastic potion bottle by an event staff member dressed as a witch (or warlock) stirring a cauldron full of punch. As expected of Halloween punch, there are tricks in store for the unwary that take effect when the punch is consumed and there is no predicting what might happen. What trick will the punch play on you?
Participants must roll a single Normal Die for the effect the punch will have on them. Details such as the appearance of the event staff member, the taste and color of the punch, and other details are up to the participants.
1: This punch is... just plain punch. This time there is no trick, only a treat!
2: Drinking this punch makes your vision flash blue for a few moments before it fades back to normal. However, you now see ghosts and you will see them everywhere you go for the duration of the festival.
3: Within seconds of drinking this punch you notice that your gender has suddenly and dramatically flipped. Thankfully the same magic in the punch that changed your gender has also protected your clothing from damage; you stay decently dressed and the clothes still fit, but how you handle everything else that comes with the sudden gender change is up to you.
4. After drinking this punch you start to feel a little light on your feet. When you look at your body you notice that you have turned translucent like a ghost and you also give off a pale aura. You can still interact with the physical world and can still be seen, but you will certainly stand out in the crowd.
5. Drinking this punch will make your eyes oddly shiny and your canine teeth suddenly grow long and sharp. You look like a vampire and might have difficulty eating, drinking, and talking for awhile.
6. This punch is the trickiest one you can get. It will cause a random change that can be anything from your voice increasing (or decreasing) in pitch, hair growing very long or disappearing altogether, or anything else. The effect is the player's choice.
Participants get one skull token for completing the activity.
- Whack-A-Ghoul:
- Whack-A-Ghoul: In this classic carnival game adapted for Halloween players get a rubber mallet and the objective of hammering down small zombie heads as they randomly pop out of nine holes on the game board. Players get sixty seconds to hammer as many of them down as they can before the ghouls disappear back into the hole they emerged from seconds after appearing. The zombies start off emerging and disappearing slowly but gradually speed up, so be alert!
Players must roll one Normal Die to determine the outcome of the game. Participants are free to come up with details such as the appearance of the game, whether the game features sound effects or not, etc.
1 or 2: You were fast with the mallet and hammered many ghouls back to where they came from. Good job!
3 or 4: You were not very fast, but you did hit a good number of zombies on the head. Sometimes slow and steady wins the race.
5 or 6: For whatever reason you did not hit very many zombies. Were the zombies moving too fast for you?
Regardless of the outcome participants earn one skull token for completing the activity.
- Field of Screams:
- Field Of Screams: In this activity participants are tasked with navigating a maze in the middle of a corn field, but little do they know that they will have to run for their lives. Fifteen seconds after the participants enter the maze a loud scream sounds from speakers hidden in the maze... that is the signal for an actor portraying a masked killer armed with a knife to enter the maze from a location unknown to the participants and begin chasing them down.
The goal of the players is to find the exit within fifteen minutes. If players are unable to find the exit, then they can also win by evading the killer until time runs out. However, if they are tracked down and "killed", they are eliminated from the game. To keep things fair for ordinary people, a field that disables the magic of all mages for the duration of the game envelops the entire area of the corn maze.
Alternatively, a player may be selected at random to play the role of the killer. You do not need to roll a dice to determine if you are the killer or a victim. If you are in a group, the killer does NOT need to roll for their outcome, as their success will be determined by the rolls of the victims. If you are doing the event solo and choose to be the killer, with no other players acting as victims, you MUST roll for your outcome. Players acting as victims must always roll.
Details such as the size of the corn maze, the appearance of the masked killer, and other details relevant to the game are up to the player.- Victims:
- 1. Through a combination of speed and luck you made it to the exit without even seeing the killer. Nice going!
2. You encountered the killer, but through speed and/or luck you survived long enough to find the exit and get out alive. Nice work!
3. You ran into the killer and were unable to find the exit, but you managed to evade them long enough to win by time running out. Time was on your side!
4. You encountered the killer and were able to run for awhile, but eventually your luck ran out. Whether you got trapped in the maze, got exhausted, or just could not get to the exit before you were caught, you did not quite make it.
5. When the killer was released into the maze you were one of the first to be spotted and likely one of the first to be killed. Luck was not with you this time.
6. Before the game starts you are taken aside to an area away from the other participants by an event staff member. There you are told that you were selected to be the killer! Now you are tasked with eliminating as many of the participants as you can before they escape or time runs out.
- Killer:
- 1. When the signal was given you hit the ground running. You managed to locate and "kill" everyone in your path before they got anywhere close to the exit with plenty of time to spare.
2. You entered the maze and had to take minute or two to hit your stride, but when you did you managed to eliminate everyone before they got too close to the exit and still had a bit of time on the clock.
3. It took you awhile for you to gather steam, but when you finally got going you managed to eliminate everyone just before time ran out.
4. You tried your best to eliminate everyone and almost succeeded, but a few lucky individuals managed to slip away and reach the exit.
5. Try as you might to catch them, a lot of people slipped away from you before you could get within range to eliminate them.
6. Your would-be victims kept slipping away right as you saw them and you were unable to catch very many people.
Regardless of the outcome and their role, all participants earn a skull token for completing the activity.
