Special Characteristics: For some unknown reason, Faris never seems too bothered by the temperature around him. He's been seen wandering his home of Desierto as well as the streets of Iceberg in similar levels of exposure. That is to say: without a shirt.

Personality: Faris is certainly an interesting individual. One look at him would give the impression of some random desert bandit boss. And yet, when he starts talking that impression shifts quite dramatically. He isn't some self-important, stuck up leader type. In fact, most people might be keen to instantly tsg him as either the comic relief or the 'lancer' type. He speaks with a certain cheer that holds the weight of true confidence behind it, reinforced with an enthusiasm and zeal for life that makes him seem so much less intimidating than his physical appearance might imply.

But underneath this exterior of a goofball dressed in an outfit too serious for him are the more subtle traits of a good man. Faris is the first to downplay anything truly impressive that he does, primarily in an attempt to not gain an unsightly ego. His own tendency to give up his own excess profits to the needy seems to reinforce his more grounded view of himself. This odd disparity extends even to his combat. As a student of a bandit turned bounty hunter, Faris is a surprisingly honorable fighter, avoiding employing dirty tricks of his own as well as having the knowledge to foil the most common types of cheap trick thrown his way.

However, he is not without his flaws. His tendency to not mince words has earned him few favors in his homeland, and even less in the lands he has visited since then. These bling words become more and more barbed as his--admittedly lower than average--patience is tested. Once it has been frayed away, Faris is known to become the headstrong, stubborn type. For all of his attempts to make himself out to be as cheerful and carefree as he believes himself to be, there are certain things that just stick with him. In spite of having travelled to lands where the supernatural has been more widely accepted, he still finds himself keeping things close to the metaphorical vest, never quite sure of who to trust. Suspicions can arise anywhere back in Desierto after all. But all in all, he's an amiable enough person that these traits don't absolutely destroy any capability he has to build relationships.


Likes:

• His Home: While it has it's flaws, Desierto is Faris's home. He has his gripes about how Desierto is run, but he will always be the first person to come to bat for the people of his home and the right for their country--desperate for change as it is--to exist.
  
  
• Astrology/Astronomy: Were he a proper mage, Faris might well have had the knowledge and skills to be a celestial spirit mage. While he calls it a hobby, he has a depth of knowledge about Astrology and it's related subjects that show it to be more than a passing hobby. Interestingly enough, this has not caused him to be at odds with Astronomers, and in fact seems more interested in working with them than Astrologers.
  
  
• Cooking: While seeming strange on the face of it, a person like Faris enjoying the act of cooking isn't all that surprising. Growing up in poverty meant that he had to learn quickly how to make food that would last while also being palatable enough for his body to not reject it outright. Now that his days of cooking solely as a survival skill have passed, Faris has taken an interest in cooking as a skill, and has managed to even become quite good at several aspects of it.
  

Dislikes:

• Pergrande: On the face of it, disliking an entire country sounds quite awful. But Faris's disdain for Pergrande isn't based in some old rivalry or some kind of bigotry. Faris dislikes Pergrande because he sees it as the worst case scenario for what his homeland could become. A place ruled by a single group with such absolute power and wealth that they can declare an entire group of people's existence illegal. As someone who wishes to see his country progress, it's only natural that he has a distinct disdain for a country that seems to be so far backwards in that particular aspect.
  
  
• Summer: The most miserable time of year in his homeland. Desierto's desert climate results in unbearably hot days, with nights so cold one could easily mistake them for the middle of winter. Growing up in that area has given him a certain level of disdain for the season, even in more temperate climates, as there are some things that are just universal about the season, such as the heightened pest population.
  
  
• Willful Inaction: Most people would describe this particular phrase with the more simplistic term of 'cowardice'. And while inaction from fear is something he believes can be overcome, the true breadth of this phrase is much further reaching. When someone has all the power and means to make a choice that would help the many, but refuse to do so. When someone could put an end to an entire situation with a few words but remain silent. The choice to take no action when a very simple act could result in a better outcome for others simply because it benefits one more to not act. That is perhaps the most disgusting act a person can commit, as far as he is concerned. If you have the power to act, then you should act.
  
  

Motivations:

• Improvement: Perhaps his greatest flaw as well as his biggest motivation. Faris has never been able to be satisfied with his level of skill at any point in his life. Many have claimed that this inability to be satisfied unless he is actively improving some skill or part of his life to be what will be the death of him, with some claiming that it will eventually leave him a burned out husk of a man. But his own desire for growth has spurred him on regardless.
  
  
• "I Want Desierto to Change": Desierto is Faris's home. Ever a patriot, he is very much one to get wrapped up in the symbols of things that he feels are uniquely Desiertan. However while he does have a birthday, it was not yesterday. He is more than aware that his homeland desperately needs change. It needs leadership that is more akin to their ally, Bellum. It also needs leadership that does not hoard absolute wealth and power. Of course, to say any of this in Desierto would be akin to signing a death warrant. So Faris keeps these beliefs close to the vest. But he hopes to one day be able to enact the change he wishes to see in his home, as he ardently believes it will be better for it.
  
  
• Become Respected: Faris has never been anyone important. In Desierto he was just a single bounty hunter amongst the tens of hundreds that scoured the sands for that little bit of money to allow them to eke out a subsistence living for another day. Outside of his home, he has been keenly aware of the looks that come his way. In truth, he doesn't want to reach the staggering heights of responsibility or power that the Sultans of Desierto have become oh so accustomed to. Instead, he just wants people to simply treat him with respect. While the baseline respect one would give to their fellow man is all well and good, his desire to be respected extends out to every aspect of his life, and has at times bordered on obsession, making it a deep flaw in his character in spite of how it motivates him.
  

Fears:

• Stagnation: Constant improvement is one of the only ways to keep getting ahead back home in Desierto. To stagnate in skill is to drown beneath both the literal endless sands, as well as the endless sands of inescapable poverty. While he hasn't lived in his homeland in quite some time now, Faris has never quite managed to shake that fear of stagnation, and still sticks surprisingly rigidly to a routine of practice and training.
  
  
• Imprisonment: Regardless of if it's been back home in Desierto or in some other country like Fiore or Bellum, Faris's primary goal has always been to help 'the little guy'. As of late, he's become quite comfortable with the freedom he has to go where he pleases. So between the hit to his reputation amongst those whom might otherwise accept his help as well as the sudden restrictions to his freedom, the idea of becoming a prisoner is something that is incredibly unnerving to him.
  
  
• Falling back into Poverty: The only reason Faris is alive and wandering around instead of rotting in some prison back in his homeland is because he had managed to squirrel away enough funds to 'convince' an official to omit enough information to turn a situation that could have led to wrongful imprisonment into a temporary exile instead. While the punishment was archaic, it taught Faris a lesson. Poverty can be more dangerous than any magic. If he had not had the money for that bribe, he'd be rotting away in some prison for someone else's crime. He has so far managed to remain out of poverty. But the threat of it has always seemed to look over his shoulder like a monkey on his back.
