Well, this was certainly going to be a risky mission. Ever since the disastrous events of Joya, the continent of Ishgar had been thrown into political turmoil. The attempted peace treaties between Bellum and Pergrande had failed catastrophically thanks to the unfortunate intervention of several known and unknown individuals that were against the treaty, and by the time the literal dust had settled the country of Joya had been almost completely wiped off the map. The death toll was staggering, and Serilda had barely slept since. She and Mythal had been pouring over all sorts of reports and organizing investigation after investigation to get to the bottom of a very tragic and complicated situation. It was a slow and stressful process, only made harder by the fact that three fourths of the nations of Ishgar had understandably closed their borders, Fiore included. Yet, that did not stop the rest of the world from turning, and there was still other work to be done that didn’t have the time or luxury of waiting for politicians to sort themselves out. That was how Serilda had found herself in a region of territory between Hosenka and the forests of Sakuramori, approaching the guild hall of one of the newer legal guilds known as Luminous Rose. A job opportunity had been directed to her, and while Serilda didn’t have a whole lot of time these days to take on missions that weren’t related to Rune Knight matters she understood why she had been approached for the work. A team of expeditioners had gone missing deep in the frozen wastes of Iceberg, and the individual that had funded the mission feared the worst. Unfortunately, between the dangerous, frigid climate, the hostile barbarians that called the country home, and the general state of the world, the number of mages powerful and qualified enough to launch a rescue mission were few and far between. And given Serilda’s particular type of magic, her status as a Goddess of Ishgar, and her political influence, she was a natural choice for the job. However, she was not going to be running it alone. The client had hired a second mage that was a member of Luminous Rose to accompany Serilda. The field marshal had never met the individual and knew very little about her, but it seemed the other woman’s power was also nothing to scoff at, and between the two of them the client felt that the pair would be more than enough to get the job done. So Serilda had sent a message to the guild to the attention of one Fortunita letting her know that Serilda would meet up with her at Luminous Rose. Given that the women were essentially going to have to sneak across the border illegally, it seemed wise to start in an area that wasn’t as crowded or heavily watched as Era where the Rune Knights were located, so she was more than happy to make the quick journey. Most of her travel was cut by simply teleporting to Hosenka, which was a town that Serilda spent quite a bit of time in. From there, she simply walked the rest of the way to the guild. Since this wasn’t an official Rune Knight mission, Serilda had foregone her uniform that day in place of one of her personal armor sets. She wore a pair of leather pants below a loose fitting white blouse with long sleeves. The blouse was tucked into a leather underbust corset that was secured in place with a steel belt encrusted with jade stones. She wore thick leather gloves and boots, and strapped on either hip were her two scimitars, the swords secured in simple but high quality sheathes that masked their enchanted energies. Her long white hair was pulled back into a loose bun at the base of her skull, and she walked with a confident, upright stride that spoke to her noble upbringing and her position as a leader of high note. Beside her walked a beautiful large wolf with thick fur as black as the night sky with cream colored dusting throughout the coat that made the creature appear to be covered in stardust. The wolf trotted obediently by Serilda’s heel without a leash, alert to the world around her with a calm and collected eye. Gently making her way into the entry foyer of the guild, Serilda took a moment to stop and take in her surroundings, observing the space and the various people gathered there. Then, she made her way over to whatever would seem to serve as an official greeting area for guests and waited politely to get someone’s attention. “Good afternoon. My name is Serilda, and I’m here to meet with one of your members, Fortunita. She should be expecting me…” |
