It was hard to tell just how long she’d been fighting for but the six foot redhead knew that she couldn’t hold out much longer. No matter how many of the thugs she knocked down, there always seemed to be another wave of them coming towards her. Where was the law? Where were those who were supposed to stop this kind of thing? It rankled with the woman more than it probably should have but such questions were ones that she'd heard so many times before. Questions that she herself had been forced to answer on more than one occasion. Oh yes, she knew what it was like to be accused of inaction by those that she had been sworn to protect and she supposed it was kind of funny that she was now seeing it from the other side. Not that she was in the mood or situation to appreciate the irony now. She might not have been a guard officially any longer but her desire to protect others had not diminished although now she was little more than a wandering force for good. Defending those she could and then moving on, never staying in one place for long. Such was her life now but one that she had come to embrace with relish. There was no red tape anymore to hold her back and finally, she’d been able to do what she’d desired ever since she’d been a little girl. To protect those in need.
Another punch whistled past her head and the slayer countered by summoning her strength and catching him hard with a powerful strike to the ribs, her magic amplifying her already considerable physical strength. Blood burst from the man’s mouth due to the impact and he crumpled to the ground in front of her, the latest attacker to fall before her. She was surrounded by unconscious people but not a single man was actually dead, such was the accuracy of her blows and knowing her own strength. Her gifts were to be used to preserve life, not end it, after all and that philosophy was what she lived her life by. She had promised both herself and the giver of her powers, the spirit of Nature itself, to do so and that was one that she wouldn’t break under any circumstances.
An arm clutched onto hers at that point and a voice uttered into her ear, sounding both petrified and amazed. “I’m not worth all of this. Just hand me over to them if that’s what they want.”
“I won’t do such a thing and that’s the end of it.” The warrior replied, her gaze briefly flicking towards the blonde woman that she’d been protecting all this time. “These thugs will not put a hand on you and if I have to leave every thug in this town lying then that’s what I’ll do. I don’t know what these animals want with you but it’s not going to be simply to take you out on a date. Stay behind me.”
“You’re strong but you’ve reached your limits.” A loud and gruff voice boomed at that point, followed by the emergence of a figure that had to be seen to be believed. A male, covered in tattoos and wearing more jewellery than either woman could have thought possible. A man of wealth it seemed, no doubt stolen from other people. He was tall too, standing head and shoulders above the rest of the thugs. “I ain’t got a clue where you crawled out from, Red, but I rule this city and what I say goes.” A smirk crossed his hideous looking face. “Give us the blonde bitch and I might just leave you alive so that my men can have a little fun with you. If you don’t, then I’ll smash your face in and leave you in a pool of your own blood.”
The armoured warrior said nothing, her right hand tightening around the handle of her whip, while her left clenched into a fist. It was an insult of the worst kind and in return she simply said. “I would rather die than be sullied by your men. Stop hiding behind your peons and face me like a man, unless you haven’t got the courage to do so?”
The atmosphere seemed to become more tense at that point and the smile vanished from the face of the thug leader. Taking a step forward, his form would start to change, the disfigured man changing into a type of minotaur, a large axe appearing in his right hand. The redhead assumed that it was a takeover of some kind and quietly uttered to the blonde woman. “Find a place to hide and stay there. It’s not going to be a safe place for you to stay beside me now. Run. I’ll cover your back.”
“Alright and thank you.” The woman gratefully responded, before starting to run back up the street.
Not being the fastest mage, the amber eyed warrior couldn’t run at a blistering pace but she was more than capable of doing as she declared. A few thugs would be the first ones to try and get past her but the guardian would crack her whip a few times, lashing out at her opponents and dealing decent damage to them, causing the fools to crumble in a heap. However, the leader was at a completely different level and as he suddenly started to charge towards her, all she could do was brace. The impact was horrible and the redhead was launched backwards, smashing into the ground hard and leaving a crater where she did. This guy was something else and as she struggled to get back to her feet, she wondered if perhaps she’d bitten off more than she could chew.
