The Hot Sands Empty The Hot Sands

Post by Esper 29th October 2021, 10:55 am

There was no calm to be found on this night in the middle of the desert, whatever tranquility a night in the middle of the desert could possibly have. Esper had expected an exhausting voyage on these shifting sands after only two days, but a little part of him had looked forward to the evenings away from the city. He imagined himself back in the wilds, appreciating the way the dazzling night sky appeared to reach down and kiss the top of the dunes in the distance he he relaxed. He was soothing himself the entire time, thankful for his fur because the desert evenings were frigid.

Esper found himself laying there, his head buried in his paws looking up at the dune before him because Desert Village has dispatched a Job Request to Fairy Tail in order to locate a missing caravan that had yet to return from Rose Garden. The caravan was scheduled to refill the grocery shops and marketplaces of Desert Village, and given it was a highly significant caravan that had gone missing because many lives depended on it. The only thing that gnawed at Esper was that caravan was lost in a placed called the Forgotten Desert.

He had only met the Elder of Desert Village two days prior, who had led him in the direction he had been travelling for the last two days. He wanted to locate them on his own terms, and while training in the desert was a good way to do it, he'd had enough of it. The more he thought about it, he realized that practicing his magic was just as beneficial as, if not better than, survival training. Aside from that, there was the issue of time.

Esper would transform into a gigantic desert vulture when the sun rose and the sands swiftly warmed into a searing flame. He was going to discover them by sight, and in the worst scenario, scent, thanks to his abilities to fly and smell rotten flesh.

He'd curse to himself as he circled the skies. The caravan was a good half day's walk distant behind him. They appeared to have camped beside a little oasis. At some time, he had strolled straight by them. He'd get to them faster than if he tried to backtrack on foot because of his height and ability to fly. Once to them he'd morph into a woman he'd met in Oak Village 40 years before. He remembered her because she was dressed in a loose robe with a hood, which he had seen a lot of people in Desert City citizens wearing. When he approached them, he'd explain that he was there on behalf of Fairy Tail and would assist them in returning to the city.

It turned out that they had been lost due to a desert storm, and their new driver lacked the necessary skills to get them back on track. Esper couldn't care less about the intricacies; he just wanted to return home and get rid of any sand trapped in his fur!
