Job Requirements: 2 C-rank or one B-rank minimum, 8,000 words
Job Location: Ancient Ruins
Job Description: A strange door was found in the ancient ruins last week, upon its open all contact was lost with the excavation crew. At first, it was thought to just be a issue with the communication lacrima, after a extra twenty-four hours of silence the foreman of the crew grew worried and sent a security team. They reached the main camp and then came under attack by the excavation crew… then silence again. The remaining workers decided to seal the ruins and call for Rune Knight intervention. A Rune Knight Assault team arrived, using weapons and gear that made it clear they were aware of what they were dealing with, and entered the ruins. They never returned, so now the remaining survivors have called upon the guilds for help.
You arrive three day later to find nobody waiting for you, just blood and destruction but as far as you can tell no one has left the ruins area. Many discarded weapons are found on the ground and there are signs of a fight. But there are no bodies, with the amount of blood on the ground and walls when there should be quite a few. Whats going on? Enter the Ruins and find out what's going on.
Enemies:
Weak:
Infected person x4: They seem to have lost all sense of themselves and just wander about until a food source makes itself known… and their food source is you. They will try to bite you and swing at you, with each attack dealing B-rank damage. Thankfully they are quite slow and not hard to avoid. For some reason, they seem to be rotting as if they were dead. each person takes 2 B rank hits to take down.
Normal:
Infected Dog x2: These Dogs are scary fast, hard to hit, and they will try to kill you. They deal B-rank damage and will try and pin you to the ground. Try not to let them get too close. If you fail to kill the dogs in three post they will howl and another 2 will come running. Each Dog can take 1 B-rank of damage but they are hard to hit.
Strong:
Hunter: Huge scaled creatures - you're not even sure what they are honestly. They have scales that reduce damage by half and long sharp claws that deal A-rank damage. They are incredibly fast and clearly very smart, smart enough to ambush you. Note: This enemy will run from you and get an ally if it fails to kill you in three post rotations. If it escapes, it will return in one post rotation with two buddies for a total of three hunters. Each hunter can take 5 B ranks of damage
Boss:
Tyrant: Only one exists but running into it will ruin your day. This thing stands over ten feet tall and its very steps crack the ground. On its right arm are four three-foot long claws capable of cutting stone and steel. It can run over sixty mile per hour so running is not really option; and if it charges, you only have a brief time to get out of the way. The Tyrant can take 10! B-rank hits before falling to its knees you then have to deal another 10! B ranks to it heart to kill it. it will stand back up after one post rotation causing is base HP to reset but not its heart HP.
Reward:
30,000 jewel

795/3500 WORDS @TAGGED THEME SONG I have seen war, famine; witnessed the genocide. Have seen the changes in human nature and history, and I am still here, standing alone. Til the end, I will be there too. To witness the endless carnage, to live this harsh reality. Cause I have been cursed, Cursed with immortality. | Cillian slapped the paper down on the counter, causing the lady sitting at the desk behind it to jump a little and glance up at him. He looked back down at her with his best, award winning smile. “Hi there! Uh…” The man tried momentarily to locate her name anywhere via a badge on her chest or an ID tag or anything. He pushed a placard on the counter an inch or so with the tip of his finger until it was facing him so he could read it. “Valorie!” The excitement was back on his face as though he’d never paused in the first place. The Rune Knight appeared a bit perplexed but managed to keep a mostly cool expression as she attempted to process the rather odd man before her. He was quite tall, standing easily over six feet. His hair was short but in need of a trim, and silver in color. Nearly everything else about him was crimson, including his eyes. He sported a matching set of pants and a trench coat that were both deep red in color. The coat tails were long enough to reach almost to the ground and was secured around his hips with a belt. There was no shirt beneath the coat, leaving almost his entire front torso exposed. Though his frame was rather lean and wiry, there was no mistake that he was quite fit and musculature. A large scar ran down one of his cheeks and the length of his neck where it disappeared onto his shoulder beneath the coat. “What can I do for you?” the woman asked him politely, smiling back. “Listen, Val. I was hoping you could give me a hand. I found this job posting and I’m interested in taking it, but the instructions don’t tell me where to go. All it says is to meet here at the Rune Knight headquarters for additional info. So I made the trek up here to Era. Who do I gotta talk to to get in on this job?” Cillian waved the paper at her a bit until she took it from him and read it over. Then, she frowned a little. “Sir, are you sure you wish to take on this assignment? Almost nothing is known about what’s going on over there, but whatever it is it’s quite dangerous…” He flapped a dismissive hand at her. “Yeah, I know. I’ll be fine, don’t worry, sweetheart. Just tell me where to sign.” Truth be told, Cillian really didn’t have much of a vested interest in the actual job itself, or the missing people. What had caught his attention about this job was the location. Supposedly, it was in some area that was considered an ancient ruins of sorts. Where there were ruins, there were bodies -- potentially even some more fresh ones, if people had been getting killed over there recently. The Necrothurg had been looking to add more toys to his collection, and what better place than a ruin? “As you wish,” Valorie told him with a nod. She pulled up a lacrima computer and began to type into it. “I just need some of your information. Name?” “Cillian duCrosse.” “Thank you, Mr. duCrosse. Do you happen to have an iLac that we can attempt to contact you at during the mission?” “Yeah, sure.” He gave the woman his number, which was immediately logged away into the databanks she was storing the information in. “What guild are you with?” “Oh, uh… I’m actually not with any guilds.” She peered at him suspiciously. “You’re a mage though?” He smiled again, using the expression as a defense against her scrutinous gaze. “Yes, ma’am. I can summon creatures to assist me in fights and such. I’m just fairly new to the area, haven’t really gotten the chance to explore my options. Bit of a lone wolf in the meantime. I hope that’s not a problem?” Valorie shook her head. “No, that should be fine.” She typed a bit more into the screen. “Alright, go ahead and have a seat and someone will be with you shortly. They want a Rune Knight to accompany this mission, due to the number of missing persons. You shouldn’t be waiting longer than a few minutes.” Cillian blinked at her in surprise a couple times. “Oh. Yeah I suppose that makes sense, sure.” He made his way over into the waiting area and loitered around, kicking himself a bit. Digging up bodies sure was going to be a lot more difficult with a cop hovering around. This job just got a little more complicated... |
