Aiding the Kappa ● Syn, Nicolas Empty Aiding the Kappa ● Syn, Nicolas

Post by Syndrome 21st June 2021, 10:30 am

Today's lovely morning sun had awoken Syn with its light shining directly into her eyes. Perhaps investing into that sleeping mask head piece Wish had mentioned would be helpful. At the same time, something about covering her eyes, even at her own will, inspired a tad bit of nervousness in Syn. It didn't really matter anymore; in the end, she was awake. It was time to get to work. Leaving her dorm room, Syn went up to the first floor of the ship. She had been staying on the S.S. Endeavor for only a couple weeks now, as it was an efficient place to live and complimentary considering she was a current member of Meliora Vitae. The common areas here often had boards where jobs were posted, and today was a work day for Syn.

Immediately catching her eye, a "Help Wanted" poster with an image of an emaciated anthropomorphic amphibian had Syn rotating her body towards it and then striding forwards with interest. She wasn't aware of this group of people...or hybrids, or demons, or whomever they might be. However, much as the job requester probably intended by including such an image, her conscience was pricked.

"Starving due to overfishing...that's a problem not easily solved." After all, it wasn't as though she could easily pass a law in Cedar that would force them to fish less. Even if such a thing was possible over time, the extended period of legislation would likely end with the Kappa nearly, if not completely wiped out, and the people in Cedar losing portions of their wealth and livelihood as well. "Is anyone interested in finding a solution with me for these Kappa?" Glancing around the commons area, Syn saw a few guild members in the vicinity. She often worked alone, but company could make everyone's lives safer and complete the quest with greater efficiency.

Aiding the Kappa ● Syn, Nicolas Nicolas-Protogenoi-2

Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if only one remembers to turn on the light!

As the sunlight glinted through the crimson curtains and danced across Nicolas’s face the young magician tried to block out the rays of light by tightly squeezing his eyes shuts. His attempts to catch a few more moments of sleep were unsuccessful, and his efforts were only reward by a short headache that ruined any chance for him to sleep in a bit longer. The young magician yawned loudly as he rubbed the sleep out from his eyes, and then carefully placed his glasses on. Sitting up from the bed, Nicolas would swing his legs over the side and tiredly massage out the knot in his neck. Admittedly, Nicolas was not the type of person to sleep in late, nor was he the type of person to stay in one place for too long. Once he officially got out of bed Nicolas quickly got into the shower, and then after the shower hastily dried off and then gotten dress. He did not take the time to dry off his hair as he was a little too eager to start the day.

Nicolas dashed across the hall, and quickly made his way to the common area. He wanted to get ahold of the good missions before someone else took them, and well, he definitely did not want to get stuck with some boring D-class mission that offered little to no challenges. Today, he reasoned that he would take either a C-class mission or a B-class mission, but he was admittedly a little hesitant to challenge himself with a B-class mission. He reasoned that he should wait until he could find someone who would tag along with him- someone who could also save his butt should Nicolas do something wrong and really stupid.

When he arrived at the common area Nicolas made a B-line towards the mission board, the young magician noticed that there was another girl there carefully reading over a poster. “What about the Kappas?” Nicolas asked quizzically and pranced over to her. He would try to read the wanted ad over her shoulder, which wasn’t really hard seeing that he was about six feet tall. “Oh that is actually kind interesting” He stated, fixing his glasses as he read about the Kappa’s in need of help due to overfishing. “Hmmm, I suppose someone should talk to the fisherman.”

Syn stiffened slightly as she felt the presence of another person next to her. Although peered over her shoulder, she made no move to hide the wanted ad from him. After all, she had been the one to ask if anyone wanted to help. Her ordinary move would have been to hand the poster to whoever wanted to look at it, seeing as they were guild mates and could trust each other with job information to some degree. However, this method was fine. He was extremely tall, so Syn could not help but feel a bit amused.

"Are you volunteering to talk to the fishermen?" She asked, smiling at him slightly. If he was willing to go on this job with her, she would happily accept the assistance. "Myself, I was planning to first visit the hidden underground caverns where they Kappa live. At least initially." Perhaps they could do both. If this young stranger was agreeable to it, she would be all too ready to go down to the lowermost level of the ship and leave. Unless he had some sort of faster ability or way of getting to their mission location, it would be best to depart as soon as possible since the travel time could leave even more Kappa in danger.

"What's your name, by the way? I'm Syn," she stated in a clear, questioning voice. "I'd be really grateful for your assistance, and if you're willing to help, we should leave right away." Seriously, Syn was itching to leave, and she would follow the man if he wanted to lead. Otherwise, she would happily take the helm and get going to the Kappa or fishermen.

The young magician took a moment or two to regard the mission that the stranger held in her hand. Honestly, it sounded like your classic moral conundrum, and there were multiple ways that this job could be approached. Nicolas would approach the situation by talking to the villagers about their overfishing problem, but something told him that would not work too well. Money was, in his opinion, the root of all evil and for that reason, Nicolas guessed that the villagers would not stop. Plus, they may need to fish in order to provide food for themselves, either way if not handled right this entire situation could easily turn into a loose-loose type scenario. He was pulled back to the here and now when the other guildmate asked him if he was volunteering himself for the task, to which Nicolas simply shrugged.

“To be honest, now that I think about it talking to the fishermen may not be the best choice.” He listened to her statement about going to the Kappa first, which could potentially be the best course of action. They could teach the kappa how to fend for themselves but teaching them how to fish could still lead to conflict between the Kappa’s and the Fisherman. “Yea, it would be best to meet up with the job’s benefactors just so that you could introduce yourself and gather more information. This job can easily turn south if not handled carefully.”

“Oh? My name! Its Nicolas!” He chuckled a little nervously and rubbed the back of his neck in embarrassment. “Sorry that I did not introduce myself before hand I should’ve done that before looking over your shoulder and invading your personal space.” Seeing that Nicolas was ready to leave this place, and that he wanted something to do the young magician nodded in agreement. “Yea, I wouldn’t mind going out on a mission! OH! What is your name by the way? And can you fly?”

"It's great to meet you, then. Nicolas." Syn was not a huge supporter of formalities, but knowing her comrade's name would be helpful from a practical standpoint. Even without that part of the exchange, just becoming more familiar was preferred to remaining strangers forever. After all, they were part of the same guild, too. She peered at him with silent observation as he displayed a few nervous tics, but her expression remained amicable. It was no bother to her whether he was a bit nervous or not. Syn herself dealt with anxiety in various forms. "You can just call me Syn, it's the easiest way," she offered in turn when he asked for her name.

Since they seemed to be on the same page in terms of meeting with the Kappa...at least first...she would continue the discussion of transport. At his question of her ability to fly, Syn sent a look of amusement his way. Did she appear to be the kind of person who could fly? Perhaps appearances were deceiving and he had learned to expect the unexpected from unexpected people. "I don't fly with wings or magic, so we'll have to find an alternative method of transport. Airship is probably the most straightforward. Shall we head down to the lower docks?"" Syn acknowledged that some people in this room likely had the ability to teleport or utilize another form or instantaneous travel, but she wasn't one of them.

If he had meant his question as, 'Could she fly an airship?' That one would have the answer of 'Suitably, perhaps.' Just in case he had intended it to be interpreted that way, Syn cleared her throat and said, "In the case of flying using technology, I am a satisfactory pilot."" Her skills in that area were acceptable, if nothing else.

Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if only one remembers to turn on the light!

“Nice to meet you as well!” Nicolas offered a handshake but would quickly stop and drop his hand awkwardly to his side. She was not his superior or anything of that nature and for that reason, Nicolas guessed that such formalities were not needed for this occasion. Plus, he did not know if being so formal made Syn comfortable or not, and well, he certainly did not want to make her uncomfortable. Nicolas was notorious for getting too excited when it came to a mission and meeting new people, and while he did not seem to be overly excited right now, he was quietly giddy to go out on a mission with a new guild member. He silently hoped that he had not damage a potential relationship with his awkward greetings, and noisy nature. “Just Syn, got it!” He nodded in affirmation and smiled widely.

She looked at him with a look of amusement when he asked if she could fly, he blushed a little in embarrassment and quickly turned his gaze onto the ground below them. True, she did not look like the type of person who could fly, but Nicolas did not look like the type either, yet he could fly. “Oh, that is a shame.” He rubbed his chin in thought, “Yea, I suppose that using the airship would be the most straightforward way, but honestly that seems a bit too plain” He took a few more moments to consider taking the pods, and then sighed in defeat. “Yea, we should go to the pods.”

Nicolas found the airship to be fascinating or well, at least at first, he found the airship to be awesome and cool and all that amazing stuff. But over time, he grew tired of the airship and staying in doors. Whatever the case, the faster they got to the Kappas, the faster that the mission could be completed and the issue resolved.

"To the pods, then," Syn smiled as charmingly as she could before turning in the direction of the elevator. She would wait patiently for it to arrive, then hold open the door with an outstretched arm to wait until Nicolas got in. If he didn't want to, for whatever reason, she would simply travel down to the lower docks herself. There was no way of knowing if he had some alternative way of reaching the pods faster. Regardless, if he did wish to take the elevator ride with her, she would hold the door open as long as necessary and happily wait.

Whenever Syn reached the docks, she would examine the nearest retractable door. There were several present; she assumed it was in case of a situation where multiple guild members or parties of people were leaving at once. Seeing as the pods were big enough to carry multiple people at once, if Nicolas was amiable to the idea, she figured they could ride down together. The technology was mostly able to direct itself as far as she knew, once a location was set. "Shall we ride together then? Unless you have an alternate method of getting down, in which case, feel free to use it," Syn asked, making certain to let him know that she was absolutely fine with him choosing whatever would please him. The the last thing she wanted to do was be some sort of bossy partner this early into the mission. His freedom of choice was his own.

Once Nicolas made his decision, she would hop into a pod and then allow herself to be carried through one of the doors. The pods for Meliora Vitae had their own sets of permissions, she was sure. Although Syn had only experienced being carried from the surface up to the S.S. Endeavor using a pod, it would probably be a similar trip the other way.

With a grin, Nicolas nodded in agreement and directed his finger towards the general direction of the pods. “To the pods” he echoed his guild-mate’s words, and then paused for a moment after he realized that he did not know where the pods were, as he admittedly has never had a reason to use them. The young magician was fixing to ask for the location of the pods, but before he could say anything Syn had made her way to the elevator and held the door open for him with an outstretched arm pressed against the door. Cheekily, Nicolas rushed towards the elevator door, and rode with her down to the docks where he assumed the pods were being kept.

In truth, Nicolas usually would have simply leapt out of a window and transform either into his phoenix form or into his hybrid form and fly to his desired location. There was no reason that he needed to use the pods, and the only way he knew of them was become Nicolas had heard of such things from other guildmates’s conversations. When they reached the docks, Nicolas’s eyes glinted with wonder and bewilderment as he started to zip about the place in excitement. Under his breath he constantly muttered about how cool the docks were and how amazing the technology found within the guildhall was and how he wished he could make something this cool. After a moment or two of exploration, Nicolas would return to Syn.

“Oh sure! I’ve honestly never been in one of the pods, I usually just leap out of a window and fly to my desired destination, so it would be fun to ride in one. Hopefully, there would be enough room for the both of us.” He cheered and eagerly got into the pod, and then tried punched in the destination, and all the needed information. Nicolas was literally vibrating in excitement and nervousness as he waited for the pod to be released, and carry them to their destination.

Nicolas seemed to become distracted by the docks, and Syn would allow him to wander around and look as he pleased as she stood outside the pod, waiting. Once he was finished and had agreed, she proceeded to wait until he got inside and then the pod began to float down. While traveling, the auburn mage contemplated his words. "I hope you have fun then, if you normally fly using other methods," she dipped her head respectfully as she wished him an enjoyable trip.

Naturally, there would be plenty of room for both of him. In order to try to assuage his voiced concerns, Syn said, "Last time I arrived I traveled with four people, and the pod felt quite spacious all the way. If you are rendered claustrophobic at any time during our journey, of course, please let me know," she told him. Since the young blonde man apparently possessed a trait or traits allowing him to take to the skies on his own, she would attempt to open the pod if he wanted to utilize those capabilities of his. Normally the pods stayed closed for security purposes. However she was sure to her knowledge at least they could be manually overridden.

When they arrived in Sakuramori, Syn stepped out of the pod onto the grass. Above them, there were dozens of petals and blossoms falling what seemed like endlessly. Shaking her head to try to get them out of her eyes, Syn looked around for any traces of the entrance to the cavern system. "The Kappa live underground, so we need to find a way inside the caves," the bright eyed girl told her new job partner. Syn began to search around, knowing that the pod would have brought them to nearly the exact location due to its precise technology which would read the coordinates perfectly. Unfortunately she did not know what to look for, so this task was slightly difficult.
