Post by Crowe 14th April 2021, 11:31 am

“Aye, lad we’re pulling into port! Rise and shine, eh?” A gruff elderly voice pierced the dreamless sleep Jasper had lapsed into, rousing him back to consciousness. Jasper moaned grumpily as he woke, opening one amber eye to gaze at the offender. If the grizzled sea captain felt in any way made uncomfortable by the glare of the mage with the crimson hair, however, he certainly didn’t show it. “There ya are, lad. Wouldn’t want ya to miss your chance to disembark, and I’m sure as hell not staying ashore long. Me crew and I intend to see the mainland before the storm breaks..”

Jasper sat up groggily as the captain made his way back unto the main deck.. It turned out sea travel was not exactly his cup of tea, if this first trip of his had anything to show of it. The captain had commented that everyone had a rough first trip on the waves, and had told Jasper to lay down in the hold til they made landfall. Reflecting on this interaction, Jasper had to admit to himself that this old man was a fairly decent person despite the wake up. With a yawn Jasper stretched his tired body, then followed after the captain himself.

Jasper walked out unto the deck just as this small ship settled into place at the docks, putting a damper on the constant rocking he had experienced on the open waters. The Mighty Minnow was a small cargo ship, just seeing out the end of it’s days alongside its longtime Captain Ronald Trench. Apparently the good captain had decided to forgo the constant seafaring of his younger days in favour of his current position as a glorified ferryman to the Amber Island. The good captain had gone on in depth about his love of being able to be home every night and seemed incapable of not bragging about his grandchildren, before Jasper’s seasickness had emptied the contents of his stomach into the ocean. Despite his discomfort, Jasper couldn’t help but smile at the wholesomeness of it all.

Jasper looked up, remembering the captain's warning of a storm coming in. The sky was covered in a mottled grey, blotting out the sun entirely, so Jasper could understand the captain's urgency. While he certainly couldn’t tell when the rain might come, he supposed a grizzled sea captain would have a knack for telling about how much time he had to make the round trip and be out of the sea before the waves got violent. Jasper blanched a bit at the thought, considering how sick he felt when the sea was considered calm, and decided it was high time to get back on solid ground.

The crimson haired mage made his way off the ship and down the gangplank that connected the ship to the dock, where he found the good captain in the midst of speaking with a few of the dock workers. The captain must have seen Jasper out of the corner of his eye and turned towards him before Jasper even had a chance to interrupt their conversation.

“It’ll be easier on ya next trip lad,” The captain said goodnaturedly, patting Jasper on the back. “There ain’t too many that take to the sea like me. I was born into it after all!” At this, the dockworkers exchanged tired glances, as though they had heard this a hundred times before. Before the Captain could really get to rambling on whatever story he might be meaning to tell, however, Jasper cut in.

“Captain Trench, this island is home to the Dies Irae guild, yeah?”
Jasper asked, throwing the captain off before he could describe his origins. Out of the corner of his eye, Jasper could have sworn he saw one of the dock workers mouth the words “Oh, thank god…” before Jasper continued, “Is there any chance you could point me in the direction of the guild?”

“Oh…” the captain replied, taking a second to bring himself out of his storytelling before it had even truly gotten going. Captain Trench pointed towards the biggest building in sight. “Well, thats easy enough lad, you really can’t miss it. Throne Hall is right there, in all its glory.”

Jasper followed his pointer towards the giant grey stone domed building, adorned in the red and gold banners of Dies Irae. Even from this distance, Jasper could see that the building was absolutely massive, more akin to a palace than a guild hall. The captain was absolutely right, if Jasper hadn’t had his head focused on the clouds and the storm that might be rolling in there wasn’t any way he could’ve possibly missed it.

“Are you a mage, lad? Thinking of joining up?”
    The captain inquired curiously.

“Maybe.” Jasper replied noncommittally, giving a small wave and a smile to the captain as he began to make his way toward the gargantuan building. “I mostly wanna check it out today.”

“Well, whatever you decide, best of luck lad. You’ll have to hurry if you want a ride back with me, else you’ll likely be waiting for next ferries to come tomorrow. Ain’t too many crazy enough to sail in the weather thats comin!” the captain called his warning to the crimson haired mage that  was walking away before turning back to the dockworkers to finish whatever business he had left.

As Jasper walked, he fished out a pack of cigarettes from his coat and pulled a single one out of the package. He stuck the cigarette in his lips, giving it a quick light with a flick of his wrist, then put the rest of the pack away. He took a long drag as he walked, leaving a mentholated cloud following his path towards the guild hall, though his eyes remained partially unfocused as he walked. Was this nervousness? He supposed there was a chance he would be disappointed by this guild, and if that were the case his search for a place to call home would continue.

As he came up on the palace of a guild hall, Jasper noticed a few people loitering outside the guild hall. Most of these were garbed in what Jasper assumed to be the guild uniforms, fairly ornate attire in various combinations of white, gold, red, and black. Some of these were tasteful, but others were more than a little garish in Jasper’s opinion. Still, if he had to put up with a uniform to be part of a force for good in this world, it might be something he would be able to put up with. That all depended on how this morning went, however…

Jasper walked up to a couple in uniform chatting on the stairs, both leaning against a thick stone banister that lead up to the guild halls main doors. The couple were engrossed in whatever conversation they were having and didn't seem to notice Jasper’s approach until he stood right in front of them.

“Mornin lovebirds!” Jackal said cheerily, drawing both of their attention to him. The man and woman exchanged glances and stepped away from each other quickly at the words, both turning beat red at the insinuation.

“We’re not- I mean…” The girl spoke up first, clearly flustered. She composed herself and sighed, rubbing her temple, a clear sign to Jasper that while they weren’t currently together at least by her body language she might not be opposed and didn't want to offend the young man by saying the wrong thing. She changed the subject quickly, her tone turning slightly frustrated “Umm… can we help you?”

“Ah, my mistake, I meant no offence.” Jasper said with a disarming smile, putting both of his hands up with palms out to show he meant no harm. “But since you asked, I do actually have a huge favour to ask of you… would you mind asking the strongest guild mage who is available currently to come outside for a moment? I would really appreciate it.”

Once again, the young lady exchanged glances with the boy she had been talking to, though this time it was more one of confusion rather than embarrassment. As their eyes met, however, Jasper’s initial greeting seemed to come to both of their minds and they both regained a bit of the redness that had adorned their cheeks. She stepped back hurriedly, clearly embarrassed and failing utterly to hide it. “Y-yeah, I’ll go see who is available.” she said quickly, hurrying out of the current situation, and leaving Jasper and the man alone as the door shut behind her.

For a long moment, silence hung in the air as Jasper took her place leaning against the stone banister. Jasper finished his initial cigarette, which had been spent between the trip to the hall and the brief conversation with the two mages, and pulled out his pack to grab another. After sticking it between his lips, he offered one to the boy who seemed lost in awkwardness at the moment.

“Oh… no thanks. I don’t smoke.” The boy said to the offered cigarette, to which Jasper simply shrugged putting the pack away and lit his second cigarette. After finally breaking the awkward silence, the boy finally asked the question Jasper knew was coming. “So… what do you want with one of our higher ups? Big job?”

Jasper took a long drag, letting out a giant cloud of smoke before responding to the young man with a conspiratorial grin. “Nah. I want to fight them.”

The boy took a step back down the steps, his face clearly showing his shock at the revelation. The young man quickly seemed to jump to the worst conclusion his mind could come up with. He nervously stammered,  “Y-you’re not with one of those dark guilds are you? We-we-we’ll wipe the floor with you if you are...”

Jasper chuckled at this, and instead of answering he took another long drag and looked up to the sky.  “The world is kinda in a shitty spot right now, isn’t it? The Rune Knights are supposed to be a force for good, yet in my experience all they do is keep the status quo. Sure, they might do some good here and there, but they seem hamstrung by the council and those that fund them. But you know, leaders can be pretty shit people too… just take a look in the alleys of some of the towns, ya see people all over downtrodden and starving. We need real change.”

A Rough and Tumble Welcome Empty Re: A Rough and Tumble Welcome

Post by Fraag 15th April 2021, 8:07 am

Suzhen was delighted to see that the library facilities in the Throne Hall were not only up to date, but also very varied in their subjects. Of course, it was not in a very central location, but it was in an easily accesible location in the palatial headquarters of the light guild. The Dongxian thought with a bit of self-deprecation that, were she to be in charge of a guild, it would probably be chock-full of books. Probably every single room, even the kitchen, would at least have a ceiling-high shelf, piled with books necessary for whatever tasks were normally undertaken in the room. Alright, except the toilets and bathrooms. On second thought, it was more likely that she would acquiesce to whatever designs her fellows had, as long as such designs were acceptable, by her standards. But it would not be an option: there would certainly be libraries, huge ones, full to the brim with books, like the one in which she currently stood. While it was expected that a guild such as Dies Irae would have such facilities at its disposal, Suzhen had been frightened to think that the libraries in the guild would be all business-like, with nothing in the way of books to be read for leisure. She had been wrong, so satisfyingly wrong.

Still, her present mission here was to carry out research, not idle the time away exploring books. The cataloguing of this place was immaculate, and it was so easy to find specifically what she was looking for. In less than five minutes, Suzhen had selected about five old-looking tomes, and had begun to research on the subjects she was presently interested in: the Bello-Pergrandian War, and its present belligerents. Ever since she had returned from the skirmish in that abandoned border town in Pergrande, Suzhen had not been able to stop thinking about the war. As such, she decided that an understanding of the matter at hand would help her arrive at more accurate and reasonable conclusions about the whole matter. Also, it would be wise to make a list of all Pergrande's possible allies, because if the war were to continue, she would probably find herself once more in the thick of battle, and she was unwilling to be placed up against a foe of whom she knew nothing.

The study of the conflict seemed to be a lot more convoluted than Suzhen had expected, and the Dongxian scholar found herself returning to the shelves to seek more resources for her study. She was in the process of carrying another set of books, nine this time, and each one easily weighing a number of kilograms, when she sensed someone come into the library and stop upon seeing her. Of course, given her diminutive size, it was quite surprising, in the opinions of others, to see her executing feats of great strength with relative ease. While Suzhen wasn't one to normally show off her physical strength, which was far more than it appeared to be, there was no point in trying to hide her abilities, especially in this place, where she had taken to be her home. So she was sure that it wasn't too much news that the indigo-haired damsel was much stronger than she appeared. Why then, was this person who just entered the library watching her intently?

Setting the books down, Suzhen straightened and turned to the person with a smile. It was a fellow guild member, that was certain, although she didn't know her name. She looked to be of similar age to Suzhen, and she seemed a little flustered, as though something was on her mind. "Hi," the Dongxian said pleasantly, "are you looking for something?" The other girl shook her head then paused, giving Suzhen a look which suggested she was considering something of some degree of importance. Then she spoke: "I hope I'm not bothering you, but I was wondering if you're busy." Suzhen shrugged lightheartedly. "Well, I'm reading, sure, but that's not exactly the definition of busy, I suppose...." A lie. For Suzhen, it was. But it was also in her nature to be obliging to those she had affiliations with, and so if she could help her guild mate, she would, and come back later. The books weren't running away.

"Okay, so there's this guy outside, and he says he's looking for a strong member of the guild. So I was thinking you might see what he wants, if it's not a hassle for you," the girl said, sounding slightly uneasy but a bit excited at the same time.

"Strong?" Suzhen asked, involuntarily trying to be modest. "Wouldn't that be perhaps one of the Ambassadors or something?"

"Well, I didn't see any of the higher-ranking members around, so...." The other girl let her sentence trail. Suzhen understood. If this person was an unknown individual, it might be somewhat rude or offensive to bother the higher-ups. Hopefully, it was something she probably could attend to without any issues. And if the matter required an ace or some such, then the search could be made for one. Until then, it would be best to quickly attend to the matter at hand, so that she could return to her study. "Alright," the scholar said with a jaunty tone, "let's not keep our visitor waiting." Following the girl, Suzhen was led out of the library and right to the great doors of the Throne Hall, where she saw a few guild members, but what caught her eye was a tall fellow (well, with her height, almost everyone was tall) with bright red hair and amber eyes, talking with a guild member who seemed agitated. The girl who had summoned her from the library indicated that the redhead was the person to meet. So Suzhen walked over.

The fellow was saying something about leaders and power and change. Suzhen took the time to look him over. He wasn't bad looking at all, and he seemed to have nice muscles. She continued to assess him quietly until he was aware someone was examining him. Daintily, the Dongxian maiden cleared her throat and gave a formal bow, hoping he hadn't caught her roving eyes. "Hi, I'm Suzhen," she said, her informal greeting making an interesting contrast to her official bow. "I don't know if I meet the standards for what you'd call strong, but I'll be glad to help you if I can. How may I be of service?" She was dressed in a run-of-the-mill uniform, so she didn't seem very different from the other Dies Irae soldiers standing there. With her expectant smile and soft features, she looked more like a receptionist than a warrior.

Letting out a gentle yawn as she would clean her blade among the highest parts of the exterior of the palace, Aerith would witness a single drop of rain splash upon her cheek as if it was to be a fragile technique of decalcomania, soon realizing that mayhaps the exterior of the throne hall would soon not be the best place to spend her time while in-between contracts- a storm was rolling in from the Azure Sea in the form of dark, voluptuous clouds, making the once warm sea breeze into that of chilled wind. The elvish demon would fold her magical cloth of wool up into a small square and tuck it inside the mouth of her mushroom stuffed animal that sat beside her; she did not feel like her unholy blade would be able to become the slightest bit more lustrous, as she had been working on cleaning it for nearly an hour at most. Gathering her belongings and slipping most of them inside the pocket dimension of the plush, she would stand from the stance that she found herself previously in and look down upon the royal horizon that sat upon the Island of Amber. Her ruby-red eyes would glisten as she would witness a flock of brightly-colored birds fly into the distance, removing themselves from the possibility of being pelted by the dark, seaside tempest. They seemed to match the colors of her uniform that she had adorned quite well, being that of a silky black and red classic outfit that had been provided to her weeks earlier when she had joined the ranks of Dies Irae. ♡

"U-umm.. Meow? Do you see that, Aeri?" the black exceed that sat beside the standing tattooed summoner would begin to speak, looking down toward the entrance of the guildhall, "It's Bai and a weird looking redhead!" Raising the palm of her hand to meet the space between the black cat's ears in order to give the softest of pets, the princess of the renaissance would grip the hilt of Lilith with her other before sending it back to float against her back, peering downwards from the inky canvas of the sky; indeed there stood Aerith's acquaintance and a ruby haired individual that she had never laid her optics upon before. Unable to read the motives of the visitor of the island as she was not within earshot, she could tell that the two were speaking of something- but what? "Hm," the unholy progeny would speak softly to herself, not allowing her eyes to move the slightest off of the boy. The collector of souls would begin to slowly tip-toe across the raised stones that lined themselves across the upper parts of the palace, the cutlass of the maiden following her steps behind her as she would process her curious thoughts. On the off chance that his intentions were not virtuous, she did not feel like it would be difficult for her to glide down upon the winds and cut his head clean off with her ultraviolet blade- but the princess knew that the maid was capable of handling herself. Although appearing as a scholar, Bai Suzhen did not come off as weak in the eyes of Aerith. ♡

♡ In the form of soft taps, if one were to look toward the top of the fortress of Dies Irae once more, they would be able to witness a pink-haired elf coated in body art staring intimidatingly downwards at the two as she would hop from stone to stone, causing the sound of clacking to reverberate downwards from the heels of her boots. Raising a cigarette wrapped in red rose petals to her mouth, she would light it with a lighter that looked to be in the shape of a red mushroom, allowing the smoke to fill her unholy lungs. Although this was most likely that of a new recruit, if strangeness were to take root, it would not take long for the witch to fly upon her mushroom broom to the lower parts of the castle to take a better look; if they were to appear hostile, or mayhaps be leading that of an attack on the legal guild, the girl would be more than willing to provide support in the eradication of their potentially evil souls. And, perhaps, the harvesting of his, if he was indeed devoted to evil and unable to be saved. ♡

A Rough and Tumble Welcome ZhCAjlE

As it were, it seemed that Bai Suzhen was not the only member of Dies Irae keeping themselves busy with matters of war. One of the two Ambassadors of this guild had his gaze centered upon the gathering blanket mass of cumulonimbus clouds in the distance. Two eyes, their colors mismatched and in contrast to his argent hair that lacked most traditional hues, peered out of the wide window that formed one side of the space he and his fellow Ambassador utilized as an office workspace. The Ambassador sighed when the oculars fell upon his own reflection in the glass that separated him from the sights on the horizon, the expression that was most often wearing a friendly smile warped into a concerned frown, the man reflexively turning away towards his desk. He most certainly did not want to occupy himself with a circumstance such as this one, though he understood that his own motivation and choice in this concern was the smallest of matters to consider. His eyes would find temporary rest on the sheets, letters, and forms that were strewn across the polished oak of his workspace, almost covering it in its entirety with the all-too-familiar white hues of paper and darkness of ink, all of them, in one way or another, portraying the same message, painting the same picture:

The events unfolding at the border between the Holy Council of Bellum and the Empire of Pergrande were a disaster for Ishgar.

With the current system of treaties, alliances, and relationships between the individual nations on this continent that seemed so firmly set in stone, it was evident that a few skirmishes between small detachments of fighting forces, with the aid of unaligned fighters and mercenaries here and there, would quickly evolve into something else entirely. The prospects for the future did not appear bright. Anything but. Johann pondered this, concerned especially for the role his guild was set to play in this coming conflict. Dies Irae was ostensibly an extension of Fiore's Magic Council, by all conventional measures, at least, making it de facto part of the nation-state of Fiore, and further, Amber Island part of its territory. With Fiore's own Magic Council being so intimately tied to Bellum's Holy Council, it wouldn't take a genius to understand that Amber Island's fate was likely tied to the result of the clashes, in one way or another. The silver-haired Ambassador bit his lip when the thought crossed his mind anew, frustration welling up from within his chest and wrapping around his throat with the familiar grip of anger. He couldn't gauge what exactly the Magic Council of Fiore thought. Not yet, at least. He needed more time. Correspondence with the Council was practically non-existent, and he figured that this applied to most people. All information he sought to relay to them or reached him in return went through middlemen or his own contacts, making any insight in this matter particularly difficult. Was Dies Irae truly a state-sanctioned attempt at changing the continent for the better, or was that merely a pretense, the guild being nothing but a convenient bunch of idealistic fools that could be abused as a fighting force in case of conflict? If this latter fact would prove true, if any action of the Council would support the silver-haired God of Ishgar's suspicions, well, he would have to attend to this matter and ... solve that problem himself. Whether the Council would appreciate this act of defiance was another matter entirely, but the man was confident that his resistance was nothing to be taken lightly.

Still, it was unwise to fret about a conundrum such as this one, for the time being. There was very little he could do apart from keeping in contact with his personal sources of information in and around Ishgar to paint a better picture for himself and decide a plan of action based on this. Naturally, he would have to involve Sivvy in this matter, as well, though he doubted that the rose-haired Slayer had anything but the guild's best interest at heart. She probably had no objections, but the man valued her perspective.

Perhaps, he thought, the unrelenting storm on the gloomy horizon was a metaphor almost too perfect for the times that seemed to await them in the near future.

"What worries you so?", a voice, deep, almost distortedly so, echoed through the back of Johann's mind, though its tone appeared more joyful than anything. "Are you not excited? Just think about all the battles we will experience!". The silver-haired man resisted the urge to scoff in response, his reply, spoken aloud in contrast to the telepathic questions from before, sounding resolute, though it rang with a certain curtness. "That is precisely what worries me. You may be able to hold your own, but who is to say what shall become of this guild in case the worst comes to pass? What of the people of this island, the people of Ishgar?". The voice cackled in reply. "You should know, vessel. Is that not what war is all about? The strong will stand victorious upon the ashes of the weak, tsehehe". Johann knew that there was very little sense in discussing this point. Mars had his own views, very particular and defined ones at that, on matters such as this, the Ambassador not bothering to reply in length. He had had discussions like this one many times over with the Seal, though no point that any party brought up seemed to move the other much. It would be best to simply ignore the being's lust for battle that appeared as though it superseded all other desires he held. In the end, he settled on a simple, stoic "Certainly, it is as you say".

He turned his gaze to the window once more, then averting his eyes entirely, determined steps taking him towards the door that formed the barrier between the room and the hallway interconnecting the East Wing of the guildhall. He knew that there was little use worrying too fervently about this topic, intending to take his mind off the matter temporarily and distracting himself. There was a spot here on Amber Island the man liked to visit when his emotions troubled him, few people knowing of this habit of his the Ambassador used to put his mind at ease. With another dejected sigh, the man picked up the onyx-hued hat, belonging to a style similarly militaristic as the rest of his charcoal uniform, from its position on his desk and placed it on the messy strands of argent hair on his head, taking care to hide some of them underneath the fabric, closing the door to his office and making his way towards the archway that served as the entrance to the Throne Hall.

    -----

The sight of the small gathering was rather unexpected, the Ambassador, leaving the guildhall with calm steps, spotting, at first, the woman he had come to know as Bai Suzhen, supposing that, in this part of the world, her name would better be equated to Suzhen Bai, as he had learned. Miss Bai would be something he found himself naturally gravitating towards, just as she seemed more comfortable addressing the guild master as Mister von Weiss. She was in the company of two more members of the guild, one man and a woman, it seemed, and, as Johann realized only a moment thereafter, another man, his eyes wandering up and down the others form, not yet noticing the other figure and their graceful, almost dance-like descent from the heights of the building behind him. He had not met him before, of that much the Ambassador was certain, though the arrival of newcomers could only indicate one of two things: Either this man had come to join the ranks of Dies Irae, or he was here on a matter of personal business, whatever that would entail. Still, the silver-haired man was certain that he would soon find out, not intending to pass by this group without at least a greeting, missing the portion of context that Suzhen, the other soldiers, and the new arrival to the guild were all-too-aware of.

"Good day, Soldiers. I hope I'm not disrupting an important matter?", he spoke with a practiced tone that was meant to portray a sense of warm welcome as he approached with the same calm steps, his expression changing as his lips curled upwards into a friendly smile. "And ... a new arrival, it seems?", he would turn his gaze from the 3 uniformed personnel to the redhead, his gaze seeking the man's own. "Welcome to Amber Island, in that case. It would appear you have arrived just in time. The storm on the horizon seems especially ferocious. Please, find shelter in the guild hall, should you wish to utilize it as such, of course", he spoke in an off-hand manner, his tone jovial, though his eyes, still firmly affixed on the unknown man, starkly contrasting the serene expression on his face. The Ambassador's dual-colored oculi portrayed no emotion apart from calculating frigidity, though something seemed to spark within them a moment later when his mind confronted the Ambassador with an instance of realization.

"Still, I approached simply to greet my soldiers. I do not intend to disturb any more than appropriate, so if I did intrude, then, please forgive me. If you wish, I shall take my leave and entrust this matter to Miss Bai", the Ambassador concluded, though waiting for a response from any of the involved parties. Naturally, there was an ulterior motive to his statement, a small test, of sorts, and though it was obscure, he was nonetheless deeply interested in the results ...

A Rough and Tumble Welcome Empty Re: A Rough and Tumble Welcome

Post by Crowe 17th April 2021, 4:15 pm

OOC: With so many replies, I’m gonna reqoute a few just to get the order right in my own head, Sorry if it comes across a bit on the wordy side!

The young man seemed somewhat uncomfortable with Jasper’s answer, as though he were unsure of how to respond. To be completely fair, it’s not as though Jasper was being exactly forthright in his answer… he had found that giving too much information when you wanted to find out something tended to get the answers you wanted whether they were true or not.. Jasper wasn’t looking for lip service, but wanted to understand exactly what he was dealing with here. After all, if Jasper was lucky it could have a rather large impact on where Jasper went from here. If he were unlucky… well, he preferred to hope there was at least one guild that could be a force for good rather than the alternative. The young mans uncomfortable expression changed to one of hopefulness as his eyes seemed to focus on something behind Jasper himself.

Jasper turned to find himself face to face with a rather pretty lady standing next to the girl he had asked to find someone strong just moments before. The woman was a bit shorter, sporting tanned skin with long violet hair and deep emerald eyes from what Jasper could see. It was hard for Jasper to tell much about her build, given the uniform she currently sported, but he hoped if she were strong she were a close combat mage like himself. That in and of itself would make little difference in Jasper’s final decision, but it was likely the style of fighting he enjoyed most. Despite the height difference, Jasper could look her directly in the eyes given the steps they currently stood on, and despite the fact that he was here on business it was difficult for him not to get lost in them.

The woman cleared her throat, and with a soft smile introduced herself. "Hi, I'm Suzhen," she said casually, bowing in greeting. "I don't know if I meet the standards for what you'd call strong, but I'll be glad to help you if I can. How may I be of service?"

“Hey there,” Jasper replied casually, removing himself from leaning on the banister of the steps and turning to greet the polite young beauty. He inclined his head in an attempt to return the courtesy of the bow, though being too formal was somewhat of an unfamiliar concept to Jasper He stuck his hands in his pockets, and a slight friendly grin accompanied the cigarette still leaving a wispy trail of smoke in its wake.. “I’m Jasper, and it’s a pleasure to meet ya.Normally I might say someone as cute as you could be of service to me by joining me for dinner later, but right now I kinda wanna see what kind of mages this guild has to offer.”

A bit of movement from above caught his eye, and Jasper glanced up to see someone moving from far above the small gathering, their attention seemingly focused on what was happening. At this distance, it was a bit difficult for Jasper to make out much more, especially with his attention taken up by Suzhen herself. All around them, the smattering of Dies Irae mages outside the front doors seemed to be turning their attention to whatever the crimson haired mage was up to, and to his approval it seemed to be more curiosity than alarm aside from the young man who wasnt sure whether Jasper was affiliated with a dark guild.

“Assuming that uniform doesn’t hinder you too much, would you care to spar with me?” Jasper asked Suzhen, trying to keep his tone lighthearted though a hint of excitement definitely glinted in his eyes. If curiosity was the general reaction then he very much hoped it was a product of confidence in the person before him to deal with whatever Jasper was up to. A small droplet of rain landed just on the back of Jasper’s neck, causing him to glance up at the sky once more. He imagined they only had a few minutes before it really started sprinkling, which meant the meat of the storm could be hitting within the next fifteen minutes or so. Jasper glanced back towards the port for just a moment to see The Mighty Minnow pulling out of the port and setting sail for the mainland once more. He hoped dearly the good captain had enough time to make it back ashore ahead of the storm. “I’d hate to ruin something so fancy and inconvenience you.”

“Good day soldiers, I hope I’m not interrupting something important? And… a new arrival it seems?” A voice cut through the air, bringing Jasper’s attention towards a dignified, handsome looking man approaching with a smile. Jasper met the mans gaze with his own amber eyes, noting one gleaming red eye and one almost grey eye. Jasper wondered silently whether it was simple heterocromia, which while rare was not unheard of, or whether the grey coloured eye was blind. Not that it mattered much either way, of course. The man seemed to carry himself with authority, which made Jasper suspect this one might be of the higher echelons of the guild. "Welcome to Amber Island, in that case. It would appear you have arrived just in time. The storm on the horizon seems especially ferocious. Please, find shelter in the guild hall, should you wish to utilize it as such, of course. Still, I approached simply to greet my soldiers. I do not intend to disturb any more than appropriate, so if I did intrude, then, please forgive me. If you wish, I shall take my leave and entrust this matter to Miss Bai” The man sounded jovial enough, and his mannerisms seemed of the friendly sort, but Jasper couldn’t help but feel this one was judging him somehow. To be completely fair, Jasper was judging them as well right at the moment.

“I appreciate the offer, and I may just take you up on it when we finish up here.” Jasper replied, smiling at the handsome gentleman. “I wouldn’t be so crass as to tell you whether to stay or go in your own home, and it’s not as though I’m shy about having an audience.” Jasper continued, turning his attention back to the violet haired beauty in front of him. “So long as you don’t have an issue with it Ms. Suzhen?”

Jasper was happy with how things were turning out. He not only had someone in front of him that might be worthwhile, but if she proved lacking he could possibly see if this gentleman here wanted to have a go at him. Either way, it was looking to be an entertaining day if the incoming rain didnt dampen the spirits of his growing welcoming party.

”Well,” Suzhen drawled slowly, a smile slowly crawling up one side of her mouth, ”I may take you up on the offer of dinner, eventually. But I expect that you’ll spoil me. And don’t complain about your wallet afterwards. That being said, if your interest is in what types of mages this guild has, I won’t mind answering you as best as I can, as long as your questions are honest enough.” Of course, Suzhen was smart enough to know, from the redhead’s words, that he possessed some sort of interest in the guild, which would most likely make him an intending recruit. It was very rare to come across anyone who expressed interest in a guild for solely academic purposes, though Suzhen had a feeling that she was not below that kind of interest. It was also very unlikely that he was acting as some sort of spy; he would have been a lot more surreptitious in his manner, even if he attempted to appear as straightforward as he currently was doing. Or perhaps he was so good that he was having Suzhen fooled with his behavior. In any case, that was unlikely. A spy would not gather this much attention to themselves, because to the wrong people, Dies Irae was very dangerous.

The Dongxian scholar tasted, more than smelt, the scent of rose petals, and she was aware without looking up that the Lady Agaric was somewhere above the gathering. She couldn’t help but note some similarities between the elven blade dancer, and this amber-eyed newcomer. They both had hair in shades of red, and they both seemed to like, as an acquaintance in Dongxia once described smoking, turning their heads into Huo Pen smelting furnaces. It was not, however, in Suzhen’s nature to preach at anybody about such things. Though she wasn’t too sure she loved smoke like the average chimney head, she did have her own quirks that she was sure many others would turn their own noses up at. So, she believed in the ‘live and let live’ maxim. It was considerate enough not to make others feel persecuted, and it also encouraged the minding of one’s own business, for there were some things Suzhen was quite sure that she didn’t want other people attempting to find out about herself. Not, at least, until she got to establish a closer bond of camaraderie with them.

Lifting her eyes, she gave the descending elven mushroom warrior a smile and a quick wave, although she was sure that, given the size of the Throne Hall building, Aerith might see only the wave and not the smile. Still, it was in the nature of the Dongxian maiden to be as congenial as she could afford to be, when her mood wasn’t foul. Yet even when angry, Suzhen tried her possible best not to pour her ire on undeserving targets, because she felt being violent was somewhat unclassy. Yet, speaking of violence, the scholar only just then registered the words that the redhead before her had spoken. He actually wanted to fight with her. Okay, he had said ‘spar’, but still, it was good old violence involved. She raised an eyebrow quizzically. Who was this guy? Initially, Suzhen was inclined to regard his request with a bit of disdain, but she checked herself. Although she enjoyed practicing martial arts, like most Dongxians, Suzhen felt it was not very proper to just proposition a stranger for a duel. And yet, there werequite a good deal of her fellow countrymen and women who did such things as a way of life. Although this fellow did not look Dongxian, Suzhen assumed he was of a similar soul to the ‘wandering warrior’ types. Before she could make any response, she felt the presence of yet another guild member, one she instantly recognized. The Guild Master was here.

In his usual way, Johann welcomed Japser with a warm and cordial air. Yet there was some undertone beneath the friendliness; it did not evoke feelings of falsehood, for Suzhen was sure that Johann’s polite welcome was sincere. Instead, it was more like a grizzled warrior welcoming a stranger into his home, with the stranger realizing that there was, in spite of the hospitality offered, a very present threat, if the stranger made the mistake of posing a threat of his own to the warrior’s household. Johann was easy to follow, as far as Suzhen was concerned. However, his often stoic, somewhat aloof and yet courteous demeanor always made her feel scared of being too informal with him, even though she was sure he probably would only punish her with a questioning gaze. ”Greetings, Johann,” Suzhen said happily, consciously forcing herself to use his first name, as she was beginning to feel that if Johann called her ‘Miss Bai’, more people would probably begin to do so. It made her feel somewhat old. Jasper was probably older than she was, and here he was calling her ‘Miss’ as well. She chuckled under her breath.

”I have no issues with anything presently, although, to return to something you said, I’m confused as to why my uniform, military as it is, should hinder me in a fight. But I’ll oblige you, so you wouldn’t say you held back because you didn’t want to damage it,” the Dongxian replied, as she undid the buttons on the top of her uniform and took it off, to reveal a white tank top beneath which contrasted with the black and red of her generic uniform. The tank top, having the attributes of being quite low-necked and lacking a midriff, did very little to improve any negative conceptions about her apparent physical prowess. Still, clad in such an outfit could be, in a manner of speaking, distracting to Jasper, if he was that sort of person. ”I do hope your reservations about my uniform weren’t borne of any naughty ideas in that mind of yours, because that would be improper, wouldn’t you agree?” Suzhen continued, dropping the uniform top gently. Then in a slow but graceful manner, which gave off nothing about her speed, Suzhen took a battle-ready stance, her body almost perpendicular to Jasper, with her legs spread and firmly anchored on the ground. The hand furthest away from Jasper was raised and the elbow bent, so that Suzhen’s closed fist was directly over her head. Her forward arm was extended almost fully, open palm with curled fingers pointing directly at the redhead. Then she twisted her wrist so that her palm lay facing up, and she beckoned with her hand for him to come, a slightly minxish smile on her face.

”You’ll go easy on me, won’t you?”

Tiptoing across the large divots in the top of the fortress, the girl of pink and red would sight that of a gentle greeting from her new acquaintance from the ground level, following the notice of the two men that were to notice her existence upon the stormy skies as well- slipping her sprawled out belongings into the storage of her plush, she would begin to prepare her descent toward the small gathering of her peers. It was as if a few more that bore the red cross found themselves inspecting the new arrival upon the island as well, including what appeared to be one of the two ambassadors of their ranks. This was one of the few reasons why the elvish princess was to make her grand appearance upon the precinct of stone and sea breeze; she had never had the opportunity to formally introduce herself to any of the higher-ups of the guild as of yet and felt as though this would be her grand opportunity to do so, alongside the taking of shelter from the incoming tempest. Magically turning her cutlass of unholy origin into that of a giant mushroom broomstick, the summoner and the exceed would begin to subside downwards upon the winds that would begin to pick up, soon allowing her to gracefully hop down from the sky onto the rough steps of the Throne Hall as if she were light cascading from the dark clouds. As she was to near closer and closer to those that were to greet the newcomer, Aerith would be able to catch the redhead speak of sparring with the girl of violet hair, which were to stop her briefly within her sophisticated wander- arriving at an unknown place and asking to fight was bold of the new recruit, but the elf felt as if this was excessive, especially due to the increased growth in strength one can accomplish while taking on those that truly deserve punishment by justice. ♡

♡ Approaching the man of white locks and multi-colored eyes, the girl of the demon heart would bow in his direction as her ruby-red optics would begin to illuminate in a dull manner. "It is an honor to be able to stand in your presence, Ambassador von Weiss," she would remark softly as she would come up from the royal address, allowing her giant mushroom to float behind her person as she would continue to speak, "I am Lady Aerith Agaric of the house Demonscale, it is my pleasure to finally make your acquaintance." The summoner would speak with utmost respect within her quiet tone, allowing the smoke from her cigarette of rose to drift away with each second that it strayed away from her mouth- she had heard of many marvelous feats in which the God of Ishgar had accomplished within her short time with the militarized group of mages, which organically led her to develop a respect for some of those which she did not personally know, such as Johann. They seemed more than qualified to hold their positions of power within the guild, which was something refreshing to witness for the elf. Within the royal courts of Kyoka, there were certain individuals that were to inherit their thrones without the tiniest bit of true qualification to rule- this was something that brought on the crumbling of kingdoms and the corruption of inheritance, which the pink-haired girl felt was already a concept that was far too in the past to be able to be effectively utilized for the greatness of jurisdiction. At least, this was true within her personal experiences within the great domains of the otherworld. ♡

♡ Slowly sulking backward to find herself within the shadows of a part of the castle that was to shield her from the rain, Aerith would raise her hand to greet the maiden that appeared to be deeply indulged within the presence and verbiage of the newcomer- she did not wish to interrupt the conversation that was to blossom within the delicate droplets of rain that would fall from the sky between Suzhen and the stranger. It was indeed true that the two were planning on sparring against one another; the elf did not understand this certain behavior, as she had never witnessed a fight between two strangers that did not hold an underlying motive of the deliverance of justice or evil. Mayhaps it was to be a strange tradition within these parts of Earthland that she had not been able to witness as of yet- combat between mages for sport was only something that she had been able to observe between those that wished to grow stronger and practice together, or within that of a competition of sorts. However, her thoughts on the matter did not seem to have even the slightest of influence pertaining to what was seemingly going to occur- the elf would not be surprised if the scholar were to mop the rain up from the ground with the challenger's body quickly, especially due to the amounts of raw magical power that she had been able to pick up from Suzhen when they had first met. But she would appear to ask if the redhead would go easy on her- this would confuse Aerith even more, as she would not understand why one would wish to exhibit weakness in battle, but she would decide to turn a blind eye to this remark as well. Twirling a long strand of bright hair within her fingers, she would feel quite out of the loop in terms of what was going on but simply assumed that it all boiled down to the playfulness that she did not allow herself to experience. ♡

"Hm, it seems as though that boy wishes to test the strength that Bai Suzhen bears alongside her crimson cross," the summoner would speak softly to the Guild Master as the smoke would billow out from between her pink lips, allowing the tiny drops of rain to splash against her fingers as she would hold her hand outwards, "I'm not exactly sure if holding a battle within this impending gale would be wise, especially if it happens to be drawn out. I would be more than willing to escort our soldiers to the Trial Grounds if the winds prove too much to handle for this scrimmage, your honor."

A Rough and Tumble Welcome ZhCAjlE

"Well, well, well, isn't that a surprise? Someone with a decent mindset comes around for once! How exhilarating~", the deep voice would hum in obvious glee, the echo persisting for several moments within the Ambassador's mind before finally, the distortion would vanish as swiftly as it had come. Naturally, Mars was referring to the red-haired newcomer and the challenge that had been made just moments before the silver-haired Ambassador had arrived. He hadn't failed to pick up on that, indeed, it was the only reason why the man's interest had been directed towards this group in the first place. Naturally, the Ambassador would not make that fact known. As far as he was concerned, the newcomer was on a sort of pilgrimage, and who was he to interrupt such a sacrosanct act. There was not only that, of course. His intention was not just to test this man alone, but to test the woman that had joined Dies Irae not long ago, as well, his eyes falling on Bai Suzhen, who returned his greeting in a casual manner. This situation had developed in his favor, in that sense, but ...

"Thank the gods!", was something that he, from the bottom of his heart, felt like exclaiming to the small group gathered on these cold stone steps before the grand guild hall, though he contained himself. Finally, that pressure of having to act excessively formal around Suzhen would be gone from now. He'd stuck to Miss Bai because she had appeared to prefer the use of honorifics and family names in the past when addressing him, the silver-haired man assuming that, perhaps, she was uncomfortable with a displayed degree of familiarity, doing so in return. This, however, was certainly a relief. Now that he actually knew how to address her, as well, all thanks to the inquiry from Jariel on that day not long ago, there would be no problem at all left. It was somewhat eccentric to get excited over a trivial matter such as this one, he realized, but it was just who he was. Well, not entirely he alone, but that was a different story by itself. Names held tremendous power when used the right way, after all.

"Splendid! Then it is settled", Johann would confirm what the two would-be opponents had been going for all along.

As if by fateful coincidence, just as the Ambassador was silently pondering this, he would be addressed once more, only now noticing the other presence that had joined the small gathering of mages. A girl, long strands of lightly pink hair framing her soft features, approaching him with light steps in the company of a small feline. The hue of her hair complimented that of her eyes, which seemed to be firmly affixed to him, making him wonder whether this synergy of colors had come about naturally or if it had been sculpted to exist in this form. Magic existed in all forms, after all, but inquiring about it simply for the sake of clarification would be rude, especially upon first meeting someone. The various pieces of jewelry embedded within her body, along with the hints of ink one could spot where skin was not covered by fabric only added to her unique appearance. Still, his eyebrows twitched slightly when the Ambassador spotted the cigarette. He particularly disliked tobacco, or rather, the smell it produced. For a nose as sensitive as his own, this scent was something of an irritant, though he swiftly regained his composure, unsure if anyone not paying special attention to his face had even beheld the small gesture which had portrayed his true emotions. Despite her habit, however, this girl knew how to hold herself with grace, certainly, already knowing the Ambassador's title and name before the man could introduce himself. He couldn't blame her, of course. It wasn't especially difficult to deduce who he was, not with that rather pointed introduction he had made not long ago.

Still, Aerith Agaric, huh? She donned the uniform of the guild, and though the man was certain that he had not yet met anyone by this name, it appeared that she had joined this guild. Johann would be certain to commit the name to memory. A small, practiced smile found its way onto his lips as he returned the greeting, his arm moving to his chest for a respectful bow, albeit the gesture was symbolic at best. He sighed inwardly. More formalities, more uncertainty, more names. It was a tune that played on repeat, a broken record that seemed as though it was dominating his exchanges with people these days. As if the sky had borne witness to this thought of his, the first drops of rain began to fall. The storm would soon be upon them.

"Please, Lady Agaric, the pleasure is all mine, though you give me far too much credit. There is no need to hold ourselves to such a degree of formality. It appears that we are comrades-in-arms, after all, is that not true?". It was a rhetorical question, of course, but it was important to the man that he could make his dislike of flattery clear, even if it was not direct. He certainly didn't feel like he was worthy of such high praises, that fact influencing his own perception of her greeting. He wouldn't let that deter him from continuing to converse in a tone that was more than accommodating while the other two mages seemed busy with their own exchange.

"In any case, since I have not yet had the chance, allow me to confirm that my warm welcome obviously extends to you, as well". It was about as courteous as he could manage in a setting such as this one, but he hoped that this simple form of acceptance from the Ambassador would be enough to make her feel like part of this guild. He, however, was acutely aware that they had gathered here for a different reason entirely, turning back to the newcomer and Suzhen only to see that the latter had already removed the jacket that had before constituted part of her uniform and taken a stance to indicate her readiness for combat.

The Ambassador's eyes widened slightly. This was going a little too fast. He wanted clarity about the overall capabilities of the two mages, certainly, but he didn't want to sacrifice the guild hall to accomplish this. Now, if both Suzhen and the red-haired mage were strong fighters then collateral damage was almost guaranteed, and the stairs that led to the small plaza before the guild hall were certainly anything but an ideal setting for a duel. It seemed that Aerith had the same idea. The Ambassador replied swiftly, his tone somewhat hurried. "An excellent idea, Lady Agaric. Please, you two, let's utilize the proper facilities at the guild's disposal for an occasion such as this one. If you cannot wait any longer then let us head to the Trial Grounds without further delay". The "Trial Grounds", of course, were the name for the large stadium encircled by the horseshoe-shaped guild hall on all flanks, or more specifically, the arena in its midst. The space had been built for fights such as this one specifically, and it would be a shame not to use it, especially since it was imbued with all kinds of magic to make it impervious to widespread destruction ... unlike the guild hall or the plaza before it. If the two agreed, of course, the walk would be a short one, this same arena being located just on the other side of the Throne Hall.

A Rough and Tumble Welcome Empty Re: A Rough and Tumble Welcome

Jasper chuckled, facing his would-be opponent with a grin but leaving himself unguarded for the moment. “I’m not about to pretend to be proper. If I were, I wouldn’t have been drawn to what I’ve heard about the guild anyhow. As to going easy on you… well I dunno about you but I don’t like making excuses after a bout. Kinda makes it lose its meaning, don’t it?” At least in this moment, Jasper decided. It was one thing if he were facing an ally, both trying to improve, or even the occasional enemy if he were simply trying to give himself a handicap to make things fun. In this case, however, he had to see for himself that this guild was more than simply a collection of talkers who couldn't truly walk the walk when required.

Jasper bent, tensing his lower body as he prepared to spring forwards towards Suzhen who beckoned him towards her, seemingly ready here and now to start, but that thought quickly fell to the wayside with the interruption of the man with the mismatched eyes.He suggested a change in venue for the two to spar, and looking around Jasper really couldn’t argue with that. It seemed there were more and more people showing up, onlookers who were either curious about the commotion at the front doors or simply interested in seeing a good battle. Either way, their current positions offered little in the way of protection if things got heated, and Jasper really couldn’t justify a bystander being hurt even if it allowed him to find the answers he sought. Besides, while property damage was typically of little concern to Jasper if it meant good was done he could admit to himself that his reasons for this bout were more selfish than that. This would also give Jasper a chance to see what these proper facilities entailed! If he were truly lucky and this guild turned out to be legitimate, it was almost certain that Jasper would make good use of them. He wondered idly whether they might have a ring or an arena set up for such battles, and mentally crossed his fingers that it was something good.

“Well…” Jasper started, turning to the man. And pausing for a split second as he tried to remember what Suzhen had called him. “Jo… was it Jokhan? My apologies, I'm somewhat bad with names.” Jasper replied sheepishly, realizing that didn’t quite sound right. He had been so hyped up for the upcoming battle he hadn't been paying strict attention. He continued quickly, trying not to draw too much attention to his mistake. “I’m alright with switching venues if you are, Ms. Suzhen? I’d hate to see someone get hurt if out fight spills over. Just lead the way.”

Jasper dug around in his coat and fished out his pack of cigarettes, taking one out and lighting up. He then offered the pack up to those around him. “In the meantime, anyone care for a smoke?”

A Rough and Tumble Welcome Empty Re: A Rough and Tumble Welcome

The winds whipping across the seas around Amber Island were increasing in intensity, and at this moment, it would be a supernatural event that would prevent the impending storm from unleashing its fury on the island. For Suzhen, the heavy wind would not be a problem in the slightest. It seemed also that the onlookers interested in the spar between herself and the feisty redhead were less bothered about the lowering threats of the grey skies above. As a matter of fact, even the guild leader, Johann, seemed enthusiastic enough about the fight, giving his verbal approval to the spar. It had been a while since the Dongxian had been in a fight, but even with her request for Jasper to take it easy on her, she was, deep in her heart, hoping he wouldn't. A mild warning bell was ringing in her head not to go too seriously into the fight; she didn't like how she became when she got too caught up in a battle.

Jasper's response to the Dongxian made her make an expression of amused outrage. "How scandalous your words are," she replied. "One would almost wonder this guild to be full of ruffians, if we were anything but proper... but I hear that the rogues tend to be popular among Fiorean damsels. I wouldn't know, in any case...." That last sentence was probably a lie, anyway. Jasper attributed his reluctance to take the fight easy to his distaste of making excuses after losing. Well, he seemed like a responsible enough person, able to avoid the blame passing game, even if he made no claims to being proper. Perhaps this fight would be more fun than she had initially expected it would be.

Lady Agaric was discussing with Johann, but Suzhen could guess their discussion may have something to do with the fight about to begin. The Dongxian took note of her guild master's widening eyes, but made sure that Jasper was still well within her field of vision; he seemed to have prepared himself to go on the offensive. However, just when he was about to close the distance between the two of them, Johann suggested that they use the Trial Grounds to engage in their combat session. Suzhen paused, and her cheeks colored slightly. She probably should have thought about that. "Oh, apologies, everyone," the Dongxian said, straightening up into a less combat-ready pose. Of course it was much more proper to duel in the requisite facilities prepared for such. Was she so fight-starved that she was willing to take Jasper on anywhere? Was this willingness to fight not as a result of the World Snake's influence? Such questions began to worry her mind, causing her to zone out for a moment, although the redhead's voice snapped her back to reality. If anyone had been paying close attention to her, they probably would have noticed, but she hadn't zoned out for too long, had she?

At Jasper's mangling of the name, Suzhen drew close, and said, with a comical expression of mock disapproval on her face, "his name is Johann, Jooooohann...." She however evaded his offer for a smoke. "I'd rather not, but thank you very much for the offer." So saying, Suzhen headed into the guild hall and began the short walk to the Trial Grounds, quite sure that whoever wanted to be a spectator of the sparring match would follow suit. Having arrived at the Trial Grounds, there were a number of venues which could be used for such a match as the one to be had between Suzhen and Jasper, but the Dongxian kept walking until she had burst through the interior of the expansive building and emerged in the main arena of the Trial Grounds. Then she turned to face Jasper, and once more sank into the same stance she had initially taken a few moments ago, before the venue of the fight had been shifted. This time, there were no words to be said, just a determined expression on her face as she waited for her opponent.

A Rough and Tumble Welcome Empty Re: A Rough and Tumble Welcome

Ascending upon the stalk of the mushroom broom that once floated behind her existence, the pink rose-colored hair of the demon girl would flutter as she would coast through the entrance of the throne hall toward where the Trial Grounds resided, allowing a seemingly endless expanse of cigarette smoke to trail out of her pale lips. Having been able to be formally welcomed to the fortress of Dies Irae by Ambassador Von Weiss made the elf feel the feeling of jubilation; it was similar to finally being able to hunt with the rest of her family before her life unfolded in front of her bright, crimson eyes. The customs and ideology of some of her newest acquaintances within the guild were not any more strange than those of Ishtar that Aerith had been able to meet within her journey outside of Kyoka, but they were indeed different from those in active royal courts, or so it seemed. An apparent dislike for the grace that was to present itself in the formality of words that were to exit the mouth while speaking, described being similar to the scratching of a broken record... This was something that the heiress had been taught to utilize within her speech since she was a mere infant, simply for the sake of fitting in within the decadent castles of the palatial royalty that she would be around so often. Her pride would not allow her to become unfamiliar with these demonic customs while speaking to anyone she didn't know like the back of her hand; though a bit of a quirk of social anxiety, it was a second nature that was taught to her by the one that she thought was to be her mother back in her adolescence, which she knew would be proud of the preservation of the agaric way.

Having advanced a bit farther ahead from the rest of those that were making their way to the arena due to making her way there on broom instead of foot, the elvish royalty's brightly colored uniform would stand out within the shadows of the throne room that preceded their destination. It was like a ruby-red eye peering outward within the shadows- being fond of the darkness it would seem as if the girl would move much more smoothly in and out of the drab abyss of muted colors, manifesting into the brighter zone that was known to be the impending dueling spot for her guildmates. "I... I certainly think that Bai is going to wipe the floor with that weird-looking redhead man," her exceed would speak as it would look back at the approaching individuals that followed behind them, "but we have never seen what she can do, oh my goodness I think I'm vewy excited!" Upon drifting through the entrance of the arena the optics of the two would marvel upon the runes that would prevent the impending gale from holding the grounds within its grasp. It was a marvelous feat of magic to witness; finding a place to sit herself and her belongings a row away from the railing that separated the onlookers of the brawl and the challenged, the princess would clasp onto her giant stuffed mushroom as her companion would get comfortable next to her, laying upon the cap of the giant broomstick that they had arrived upon. Her vision was primarily set on the maiden, seemingly ignoring the offer of smoke from the stranger entirely- it was to no surprise that Aerith and the exceed would be rooting for Suzhen to win the sparring match. After all, the maiden did happen to be a lady, just like the summoner.

"I have no doubt that you will fight with valiance, Bai Suzhen," Aerith would begin to delicately speak to her acquaintance of violet hair from her seat, raising her own rose-wrapped cigarette to meet the gaze of her lips once more as she would prepare to watch the spectacle, "It will be a joy to be able to witness just what you are capable of within battle."
