It had been an interesting few weeks. Joining a guild, let alone a dark guild had not been Maddox’s plan. But as she had mentioned to Temperance, her appearance and… unique way of speaking alongside her personality tended to mean it was harder for Maddox to network and maintain reliable contacts. But a guild would do that for her. Even with Elysium taking a cut of the profits, Maddox was making more money already. And with its utterly beautiful and enticing modus operandi, Maddox was more than happy to work with them and even remain loyal. After all, who would want to work with someone who constantly stabs others in the back? And the rewards were so sweet…
Anyways joining a guild, mostly the same guild as darling Temperance, wasn’t the worst idea she’s ever had. Mostly because, well, before joining she was kind of… homeless. She had places where she stored her pretties! But many of them were in hard-to-reach places, often not very livable as well. And while she wasn’t sure enough about the guild to store her precious pretties with them, and the guildhall wasn’t exactly beautiful, it was a good enough home for her for now. Even if she had to trek through the wastes for Sin to get to it…
Ok so maybe it wasn’t the most ideal home, but it worked. The part she liked was that it was permanent enough for her to actually set up a lab of sorts, instead of borrowing, ‘borrowing’, or paying to use another’s lab. She had just managed to… ‘acquire’ the pieces and get it shipped, and had it set up enough to start working on some of her magitek pieces. Her ‘lab’ of sorts was just off the busier sections of the hall, far enough away that any lab accidents wouldn’t disturb others, but close enough that if Maddox screamed out someone may come to investigate. She wasn’t so sure of that, this being a dark guild and all. But it was out in the open enough with only a half wall barricade granting what she was doing some privacy that anyone walking past could at least see her hunched over something.
And in this case, smell some fumes. They weren’t strong, Maddox had the more dangerous ones contained, but it still smelled a bit. Because while Maddox could and had built magitek weapons, chemistry was still on the new side for her. True she made the formulas for the remedies that went into her Good Intentions needle gun, but it was mostly based on others' work. Upgrading the remedies herself, or in this case, weaponizing it into an acidic poison was proving… difficult.
Cutting off another curse word, Maddox dumped the latest failed batch into her shadow space where she kept her gear and looked over her notes for the minor correction she hoped would fix the problem. It was no use. The acidic level was much to high and not only melted through the meat she was using to test the poison but ate through the flesh faster than she thought to the point of getting on her gloved hand. “It’s supposed to simulate the feeling of melted flesh, not actually melt it. Stupid formula, why can’t you just work for Maddox…?” She grumbled, then uttered few curse words as she got a cloth to get the poison off her glove. Her notes were thankfully spread out behind her, safe from the unintended blast zone. So much of her fighting style revolved around sneak attack and phycological warfare that having such poisons was starting to get more and more necessary. But chemistry was not something she had much chance to research, and it obviously couldn’t be learned through trial and error like magitek engineering. Maybe it was time to rob a library….
